I sometimes wonder if Eiji is really comparable to Oda. I don't really think so, since Oda sold over 2 million with a single volume in one week…
First of all. Oda is a real person, and Eiji isn't. Second, Oda sets CRAZY records that no one has ever done before. Third, Oda is currently averaging 3 million per volume on first printing now.
And Oda didn't start doing that till year 11 or 12. OP has always been hugely successful, but it did take time to get there. Eiji is on his 8th year and is doing 1.5 mill a volume, which is as good as any other manga that is actually currently selling. Its comprable.
They aren't going to have the fictional character flat out beat the current ACTUAL uber seller, that'd just be bad form. (As it is, Eiji setting records on the surveys is wrong. Toriyama at Dragonball's height was getting 850 out of 1000 regularly.)
I'm fine with Eiji getting a bigger print run than Ashirogi, but I feel like its a bit stupid that it would just explode like that in the third print run. If they were going to set Eiji up for more, I'd think they would've given a higher initial print run in the first place. It just confuses me how Ashirogi can only have a third print run of 30,000, but Eiji gets one of 900,000. I simply don't understand why Ashirogi's would continue to go down for the third print run, but Eiji wold shoot up to 3x the original print run for his
Because that actually happens with print runs, is why. One thing sells out faster than another, people keep asking for it, more orders get placed for it. Its a legit thing… and again, Eiji is riding on the success Crow had. The lead duo has always had trouble selling high numbers.
Why did Harry Potter 7 have a higher print run than Stephen King's most recent book at the time, even though he's an author that's been around longer? Market demand.
