Just watched the Holidays of Future Passed episode. Really good episode, there were a ton of easter eggs in there, (all the chalk outlines in Moe's bar alone…) and a lot of actual sentiment. the Christmas card montage at the start was especially nice.
It was very much like a Futurama episode.
Shame those changes will never really come.

I hope the writers will realise how much easier it is for them to write new non crap material for episodes like this, and draw the proper conclusions.
This season has been so good, it would literally kill me if they do one of those dark over-arching plot episodes agian.
Honestly, I thought Lisa settling for Milhouse is a rather depressing plot development especially since she's still talking to Nelson behind the latter's back.

I initially thought at end of the episode, there was going to be a twist reveal that the whole thing was Lisa's nightmare.
I'm glad this episode didn't appear to actually be a what if. This was the first time I've watched a full episode in a year or so. But I was bored and looking at this thread and you guys had me curious about it. It was actually good. It's nice to see episodes that don't have odd sight gags that appare outta no where like Family Guy. It was just a neat story. I feel bad for Bart in these future episodes. I'd like to see him actually successful and happy…Or maybe that's cause I haven't been able to stand Lisa for years. And Maggie is the best.

Actually there was a very early ep in one of the series's first seasons in which Homer prevents Bart from seeing that Itchy and scratchy film, the ep skips years ahead in which Bart is a successful judge or something.
Though that's not really a future ep though, and that skip is only at the very end of that ep.

My favorite scene has to be Bart and Lisa talking about their lives drunk in the treehouse. I've always liked their sibling relationship and the scene just made me feel all warm. I also liked how cool Homer was. Cooler than usual, but still cool. I'll watch this episode agaian once it hits DVD or Blu Ray. This season has been worth my money.
In terms of sentimental episodes, this was the best this season. In fact this is probably the best Christmas special I have seen in a long time. Bravo.
I just saw it, and yeah, realy liked it. Well at least their being consistent about the Maggie joke.
Random thought: anyone was thinking it odd that Marge didn't even get slightly worried she's had no word (pun not intended) from Maggie ? The episode made it feel like she was in the hospital for quite some time.

Also I haven't been watching this season but didn't they have a viewer vote about if Ned and Edna should stay together? Did that go through or what?
The fans voted to keep them together but nothing has really come out of it yet since they would have produced several episodes before the vote was finalized.
What an awful episode. Then agian, only South Park handles politic related topics well.
Maybe it's me, but I felt alienated with a ton of the jokes since I don't really care for politics.
Well, I thought it was okay up until the third act, where it goes into some weird A Face in the Crowd/Meet John Doe territory with Homer's rants causing a "social movement" and giving him some sort of demagogue status among the Republican Party. Not too interesting, with a pretty obvious anti-Republican/pro-Democrat one-sidedness it represented and a pretty limp conclusion. Though the "dream-sequence" double-cross was inspired and there were a few decent jabs at Republican nominees that no one will remember next year.
I suppose this episode will have some footnote as the first Simpsons episode to have the characters directly acknowledge Homer breaking out crying over even minor setbacks, something he's done possibly since Season 1.

The "short" at the end seemed vaguely reminiscent of Tim Burton's short "Vincent," with the limerick style narration about a peculiar young boy. I'm not sure about the art style, though.

So, I just watched the episode. I'm pretty sure the short's style was based off of some book, but it was also used in Simpsons with the horror story about the lunch room.

Wow. I haven't watched a full Simpsons episode in months, if not almost a year.
Since this was the special 500th episode, I didn't want to miss it for anything. plus I made sure to record.

I chuckled at a couple of the jokes, but the only time I laughed out loud was when Homer got his head stuck in the airplane turbine on his ATV, and this:
Homer: "Please put that down!"
Bart: "But I just got started.
Homer: "Not you. Him!"
Overall, it was a good episode. Not amazing or great, but pretty good.

The alternative opening and couch gag that was placed in the middle of episode was just a great homage. Especially the Fox joke, and it apparently being a pun to the station's audience. My favorite bit has to be Homer and Marge dressing up as Smithers and Burns to sneak back into Springfield. Then the joke with Mr.Burns and the show monkey imitating Smithers. The ending with Skinner was also nice.
I really enjoyed this one. The recent few after the Christmas special hasn't been up to par.
I almost forgot the ending with Skinner was nice. And when Bart came back to get him was….dare I say it...touching.

IIRC, the plot of the movie was Springfield being encased in a giant dome due to Homer causing a environment disaster in the town lake.
The townsfolk didn't kick them out(cuz of the dome), but they did form a giant mob in an attempt to kill them.
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Is the syncing off on the sound in this new episode?

Anyway, I liked the last episode. I was getting worried that the episodes were getting worse since the book writing episode.
The Inception spoof today was fun. Especially the part where the animation and VA were like old Simpsons.
Just watched Who shot mr Burns? again. Sooooooooooooooooo much better than the Movie.
The reruns got to season XIII by now. And the change in quality is actualy synonymous with Homer's voice actor changing in the dub around the time it started going downhill as well. The new guy sounds just as stupid as Homer in the original, which actualy harms the dub overall, I think.
Also, I love how certain situations are only seen in a certain light because the script demands it be so. In "The Blunder Years", Marge's obession with the Burly towel icon hinges on the frightfully creepy, and yet Lisa scolds Homer for pranking Marge when she's writting letters to another man and getting giddy about him. Yeah you might argue the prank might have possibly been cruel, but it's funny how Lisa just ignored any legitimate concern Homer might have felt over the issue.
Not sure what's the point of posting in the thread, but apparently the next episode reveals Springfeild's location. I'm thinking they are putting my leg again, or it's obviously in Oregon.

I'm mostly a Simpsons fan of the first 11 seasons and few episodes of Seasons 12 and 13 (the first angry dad episode is the season 13 episode that I like). The seasons that I like the most were Seasons 5 - 8. Since those seasons some of the best episodes.

The joke is that the state they are in is as inconsistent as the show's continuity. Groening grew up near Springfield, Oregon. When he was young whenever he heard something was happening in Springfield he thought it was near his hometown. Later he leaned that Springfield was a really common name for a city in the U.S. and that is from where the name derives. One time they said West Springfield was three times the size of Texas, and it is obviously not in Alaska. In the movie they said it borders Nevada, Maine and Kentucky. We will never know, we are not meant to.
Yeah, any reveal has always been a joke to throw fans off. But this time? I think they might actually say it once and for all in the show.

By the time we even get to these new guardians who've taken the kids in for a week to grow closer, after having about two minutes of screentime before, mostly spent on not saying anything, literaly less then a minute later Homer and Marge go to get them back, and when they arrive, about fifteen seconds after they leave, the kids say they want to go home, and the pair goes off to vacation.
It felt horribly rushed, like we skipped several scenes. Which we actualy have, you know, the scenes of the kids and the two interacting, and the kids slowly deciding against staying with them after some hesitation ?
I wouldn't mind skipping this obvious part if it was subsituted with something else but nope, the episode literally has no conflict, it's just "Take our kids, kay, give our kids back, kay, the end".

That episode was all kinds of bad, i mean seriously. It is quite bloody obvious that if they don't trust their own family to take care of their kids, the next in line would be the good family friend next door Ned Flanders - his option didn't even come up the entire time.

It will only end when either one of the major simpsons' cast member or Matt Groening dies (that isn't Phil Hartman) and/or the show isn't financially sound (which the former is most likely to happen at this point).

Because that actually requires thought and work which neither party wants to do. Why work hard when you know folks are going to continue watching it regardless of what you do with it? Just throw in a bunch of guest stars, a shoddy script based on an inferior older episode with some pop culture references thrown in and you're set to go.

I'm sure they have - hell soon there will be a crossover episode with Family Guy. However I think the problem with the Simpsons is they've already done most stories I think the only place they could go is actually killing off one of the 5 main family members as something they haven't done yet.

I know but after a while, when you end up writing an episode that is literally setting up conflict that never happens and that's over before any kind of on-going plot can actualy start happening (Brake my Wife Please, The Changing of the Guardian), don't you get the feeling of, you know, wanting to DO something every once in a while ?
Also this may be a stupid question but come Ling has grown significantly since last we saw her and can both walk and talk, yet Maggie is still the exact same age she was when Selma adopted Ling ? I mean how will they hand wave heir way out of that one ?
