But if it didn't work, it is hard to imagine if her ability can compliment her combat techniques to do more damage or be more effective. It is hard to be creative with her.

Nonono, you misunderstand me. Mentor characters are cool and all and I like Jinbe and Rayleigh as mentor characters. I just don't think they should follow the crew along and help them on their journey. Mentors teach and then let go.
good point except that his imminent joining suggests a transformation from mentor to old soldier. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OldSoldier it almost perfectly describes what Jinbes role will be. Luffy and company still have a lot of growing to do and they will need someone who has seen it all and done it all on the dangerous waters of new world. a great addition but I do agree with some people that another girl would have been nice I still like Jinbe especially after this arc.

Her power doesn't seem very useful and as a current supernova and captain I don't think she'll join Luffy's crew considering her current commitments and aspirations. I have no doubt she'll play an important role in an upcoming arc but I extremely doubt she's going to join.

You seemed to have left of Perona's ability to have people depressed.
It's sorta funny I always hated Mr. Fantastic. I found his power to be lame. After reading/watching One Piece…Now I realize that it was just how he used it.
As for Jinbe I'm disappointed that he may accept. I still don't really feel anything about his character, that could change I suppose, crew interactions should help expose his perks/flaws more. But he was the best candidate in this arc, I couldn't see a better choice.

I doubt it would be the biggest thread ever, but some people here are really motivated. It'd be nice to let his joining coincide with the end of this thread and start again with a clean slate, after all.
In hindsight I'm glad I jumped on the Jinbe bandwagon around the end of Impel Down instead of keeping Hancock and Jinbe both open as options once I realized that it was impossible for her to join without dooming Amazon Lily at the same time.
I like Jinbe, so I'll probably be very happy with the outcome. -
I honestly thought that with the sheer predictability of Jinbe joining Oda would choose to follow a different path. Nevertheless he seems a very suitable choice if he does join. I just wish I could be more interested in him as a character, but as stated by some already, further crew interaction will probably sway me eventually either way.

Just one thing for those people who says jinbei doesn't have a dream or lost somebody important … you just skipped the flashbacks, with 14 years of One Piece you should already know that all the flashbacks oda gives have a reason and in the fishman island flashbacks the only thing that appeared over and over was jinbei, he lost he's captain and the queen he wanted to protect, and on top of all he have the ambition to make otohime's dream come true so what do you need more...
Ok he can just refuse luffy's request but he has all the requisites to become a stawhat and if you say he don't you have just been losing time staring at oda's drawings (that are amazing so it's not a waste of time) and not reading and understanding his story.

and no, this happens regularly. we tend to give threads a new start after they reach the 1000th page. plus when it comes to looking back at, and archiving threads, having them too long becomes troublesome.

I don't see why it is wrong to want another woman on the crew either. I am one and would enjoy having someone else to relate to, especially since I don't relate with the current ones. But this is a manga directed at young boys, so despite what I'd like, my opinions aren't the type that Oda or his editors would consider.

If there is another crew member, I would like for another girl. I am actually hoping for one that isn't the traditional anime beautiful girl, though I know it's unlikely. I was hoping for a fishman girl who would not be hot (unless you find fishmen sexy) but I'm happy with Jinbe. Though I wouldn't mind for a character to fill the grandmother role. (though would everyone pair her with Brook?)

Porblem was that non of the female characters hadn't really a chance to join and weren't built up like that. Who knows maybe the last one will be female… And if not... 2 out of 11 is not bad for a small crew like Luffy's. Just look at this compared to crews like BBs or the marines

Well technically, in the OP world, it's just rare to have a female pirate. Besides Hancock and the Kuja, there's who else? Bonney, Perona, Alvida, Catarina, Porsche, and a few others. Pirating is a man's ambition in the OP world and Robin/Nami are already pushing it if you're looking purely at statistics. I wouldn't mind seeing another female either, but as I've said, if Jinbe's the last, I'd be completely happy with it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting another girl on the crew.
The problem is when people say "That character for crew member!" ONLY because they are a girl, and for no other reason whatsoever.
Not personality, role in the story, ability, design, or anything else, and completely discounting anything that makes them incredibley unlikely… purely because they have boobs.
People wanted Shirahoshi to join back in Thriller Bark because "She's a mermaid princess, that's perfect!" Even after she was introduced as a crybaby and a giant, people have kept going on about her. Anyone with sense discounted her the instant we saw her size.
Other long standing candidates that people argue about at length, despite there being no real point behind them joining and it being completely contrary to their role in the story, personality, and ignoring all consequences... Perona, Marguerite, Hancock, and Bonney.
No one campaigns heavily for Lola or Kokoro or Sandersonia or Sweet Pea to join, for instance, because they're "ugly." No one campaigns for any of the other supernova to join either, just Bonney. Not Capone or Urogue or Law.
Nothing wrong with wanting another girl in the group. But it IS shallow to just want another chest to look at.

Lol Robby, I actually suggested Marguerette(even though I was in the Jinbe bandwagon) at the time because I liked her personality and her weapon and was diferent enough from the other two girls unlike Hancock, after some chapters I though that she didn't really have a chance but there were a lot of idiots supporting her too(by idiots I mean the Mashima dudes).
Oh and how I remember the mermaid princess people :D .

Marguerette actually had some semblance of a chance for a while, for a variety of reasons, but she was so quickly overshadowed by Boa that it was moot within a couple chapters of her appearing.
And yet some people were going about her joining right up until before the timeskip after Luffy went back to AL.
