It's obvious Luffy is going to destroy the island. Once he discovers why exactly Noah is so precious, he will use his unseen powerup to destroy the island and keep the arc safe.
Did you just spoil the twist?

Luffy will somehow cram FI into Noah ("carry the future on it's back") and make it float/work again
luffy definitely will destroy FI . NO doubt about that
Now the problem is, the people just don't wanna move out of the way. Plus the fact that there are the SHs and the human slaves who can't breathe underwater. So they've gotta figure out how to get everybody out of there…
^
How about a Giant Bubble?
^ It'd take some time getting one big enough to protect all those people set up. Noah may fall slowly, but it's not that slow.
Hm, Shirley saw something being destroyed. I wonder if it is the palace that will be hit, but not the rest of the island. It's directly above FI and closer to Noah than the latter. In a way, it gives me a flashback to Skypeia when Lovely Street was destroyed, but the much larger Shandora was only scratched.
Anyway, I expect that Decken will wake up again. It's the best and easiest option that Luffy has now.
Luffy will Gum Gum Jet Axe with CoA and split the island in half, causing Noah to miss the island entirely and hit the sea floor. Or not.

Hmm, if that happened, that would put Zoro's ship slicing into prospective. :P

I have to say that Luffy splitting the island in Strong World was way too exaggerated. Even when enhanced by Haki, I highly doubt he'd be able to split islands. Besides, he's still looking forward to eating meat. He'd be so pissed that he becomes the island's hero and there's no meat to make up for it.
Gom Gomu no Elephant Foosen.
I talked about Hodi lately and I think he always was the kind of villain who has a great idea in his mind but no way to rly accomplish it with his methods.
His ideology is actually the same as the WG has, just directed at them and humanity.
Thinking from his point of view his race was always violated and put in the shadows, what sure made a huge impact on him.(especially when fishmen think of themselves, like Arlong stated, that theyre actually 10 times as strong as humans and so naturally the real leaders) He thinks with enough power and strenght he could achieve something, while totally disregarding any psycholigically fact(he forces everyone to follow him or die) and devokes that by the law of nature of "who is the strongest is the natural leader". It
s the same thinking Arlong had, but Arlong at least had the better idea of first building a force in the EB before trying to achieve his goals, while for Hodi those E.S are enough to think he now possesses the extra strenght he needed for that.
By having now the opportunity of using those E.S he now believes he finally achieved the last missing piece to achieve his dreams.
Fighting fire with fire and everything has to burn that isnt fire itself. Afterall he doesn
t rly want peace or something like that, seeing that he sacrifices even his own men without a second thought, he just aims for revenge/to get the power from the humans (or what his past will reveal us about his real motives).
So he isnt that bad of a villain (he has a twisted mind and an actually unreachable goal like many villains) he just isn
t smart enough to rly achieve something with his "strenght is everything"-method.
He is like a lumberjack without an axe…he tries to punch the tree down while missing that he hasnt the axe to do so. (with axe i mean theat just strenght isn
t enough)
I compared him to the WG, which has the strenght(the marine) while they also have the axe (the "right" thinking--the 5 elder stars)how to accomplish their goals.
By now failing with his method he makes it even more obvious for all the fishmen that Otohimes way in solving the problem was the only real solution which could lead to peace.

That's another thing that annoys me about Hody. He called Arlong barbaric and that he wasn't cunning enough, and then he has this plan. Hody does have his smart moments but I wouldn't call his plan "cunning"…
I think what's kind of exciting to find out is how Hody was affected by humans. I don't know about other people, but I just thought he was an ignorant prick who was just the product of generations of hatred. Given his underestimation of humans I just thought he grew up with that hatred instead of having firsthand experience. But that doesn't seem to be the case, possibly.
Looking forward, how long before the end of the arc? There may be around 3-5 chapters of the battles left and waking up Decken so the Noah doesn't crash into the island (I expect the palace may still be in danger of destruction), a couple or so more of how to stop the Noah and land it safely without crushing Shirahoshi, and several more about settling the racial hatred. After that, we've still got Joy Boy and the history of FI, more of Jinbe's history (possibly another 4-5), Caribou to be dealt with, the yet-to-be-revealed Fishman Dojo(s), and Luffy's payment of meat. Then, we finish off with 1-2 for the conclusion of the arc and how the crew will ascend to the surface of the New World seas. I give them another 10+ chapters, so… that's 25-30 chapters left of this long arc. Hey, it's about as long as (or a bit more than) the Skypeia arc, which lasted for 66 chapters. We've just arrived at 40.
Looking at it now as a whole, this story arc has been a magnificent ride. Many readers grew impatient with the pace of the Skypeia arc, and naturally they'd grow impatient with this one, but in the end, a reread does wonders.

I think that he is so driven by his idea that he cant bear another day where fishmen are under the tyranny of humans, while he sees that many of the fishmen seem to accept that(won
t fight back), even when in his eyes thats against nature. Arlong was for him the only real role model, because this guy wasn
t accepting it, but instead of "teaching" his whole race the ideology, Arlong went to build a force in EB.
I think that Hodi even hates his own race for being powerless/unwilling to fight back all those years(were in a way accepting the fact to live on the bottom of the sea) and that he had to grow up in such a world.(seeing how he sacrifices them or uses them as a shield)
I will try to do just that, reread it when it is done, though I doubt it will work wonders…
Something is missing here and I think in few chapter we ll see just what, there has to be something more to the entire thing...it just feels too direct, too damn blunt and pale for me personally.
I dont and cant buy it...

There are about 10 weeks left in the year, so I think this arc will end within 10 chapters. I don't see the new arc starting until sometime in February though :(

Only 10? No way in hell. The fight against the NFP alone will last for this long at the current pace. I find rubia_ryus prediction much more plausible. Sadly…
10 chapters? No way, there is far too much going on that needs to be expanded on.
It seems like every arc people are just so caught up with the future they can't sit and enjoy what is right in front of them. Even from the mini arc that was Amazon Lily, people were hell bent on hurrying up and seeing what was next. Impel Down, Marine Ford, Luffy's flash back, and now Fishman Island must be swept aside for the New World.
Then the very same people watch the anime and wonder why Luffy's flash back didn't agonize them like in the manga. Knowing whats next will always give you a greater appreciation for what is happening now. A reread will do everyone good who have already forgotten the interactions the SHs have had with each other since they reunited, Arlong basing Arlong Park on Saboady Park, the queens drunken speech, Neptune crying and raging at the same time, Tiger refusing himan blood even though he knew it was good for him, and so on. Then you have the epic reveals from Sanji and the rest demonstrating their amazing new attacks. There have been some great highlights so far with allot of set up sure to please, I say reread and let the manga take its course.
If you can't be patient with the manga or anime then you should take a 2 year time skip before coming back and relaxing.
I'm sure there is some nice Islands to go to in the Pacific. :P
Maybe I'm too optimistic. I actually meant that Hody would be defeated and crisis would be averted in ten chapters, and that post-FI arc would start in ten chapters. Assuming FI will be destroyed.
Thinking about it:
Maybe FI won't be destroyed this arc but will be when it is no longer needed (post-WG). Hence Luffy will 'destroy' it when he changes the wortld?
Maybe this is late, but more shonen manga authors ought to take a cue from this arc. It's a great example of how to make an arc entertaining without having the heroes get stuck in a hopeless situation vs. an overwhelmingly powerful enemy. I hate how some manga (and I guess Harry Potter) make their protagonists so weak or seemingly useless that any undeveloped villain can knock them down. It's refreshing to see the opposite here. Hody and co are outmatched by the Strawhats, but they're determined, flexible, and fun characters regardless. I love the little skits of action we're getting from them.

There's no need to call a "post-FI" arc, as once the crew leaves FI, it'll be the beginning of a new arc. So, it's still more than 20 (closer to 30) chapters to go. As hilarious as it would be to see Caribou owned in one page, I figure there will come a scene or few where they continue to search for him.
Even if the crew head off somewhere like Mariejois for a short arc (which is still complete speculation at this point) and return to FI, it'd be referred to as the "post-Mariejois" arc or something like that.
Well my assumption was FI would be destroyed, but somehow everything will be alright (migrate to surface etc etc). So it would be Post-FI like it was Post-EL, and that would be the time to fully explain everything ie Joy Boy, Noah, Jinbe joining/not joining.
It would still be part of the Fishman Island arc anyway; simply because it's destroyed doesn't mean the arc ends and has to be renamed.
why dont luffy just block the noah with his hand or body(gum2 ballon?) and put it at another place before it reach fishman island.he surely can do that since he was so strong..hmm…there is no need to destroy the island or noah.
You make it sound like it's so easy.

I would really, really love it if this turns out to be true. I never wanted FI to be destroyed in the first place; lets see more happy times and enjoyment in the undersea paradise!
I think Brook should hold a concert at the end, the Mermaids love him, he'd be a blast!
Has anyone mention the possibility that Wadatsumi's growth might play a factor in saving the island? He's got to let out all that air he's sucking in some time. What if he blows it straight up?
It wouldn't be the first time Sanji hatched an ingenious plan.
I think FI will get destroyed. Why?
Cause of the same reason why Angel Beach got destroyed or why WB and Ace died:
STORY DEVELOPMENT.
It will force the fishfolk to move to the surface (maybe SA) and with the fishfolk in front of their nose, the tenryuubito will have to change their way of slavery (I guess Luffy+Co will force 'em @ Reverie to change it).
Also BigMom's reaction to her destroyed candy factory will cause more tension in the NW.
It'd be sumhow lame in the end if everyone again is like:
"Ooooiiii, farewell, Mugiwaraaaas and fank you 4 evrythiiiing!"
If FI really gets saved otherwise, I hope it'll be Wadatsumi who stops Noah.
Cause it'd be hilarious and it'd save Noah too if it lands "softly" on him.
I'm also lookin 4ward to the story of Joy Boy and why the poneglyph on FI is different than the others.
Or maybe Caribou will (be forced to) do his swamp thing with Noah (they're shooting an air bubble at it, so he would not be affected by seawater)? That would make him useful…
Even when Wadatsumi is a good idea i doubt it.
Even when he is huge with all the air sucked in, he still isn`t close to be the size of Noah…we should be right now just barely able to even see him on the island.(but granted he still could suck in a lot more air and he could be just like Luffy in this scene afterall)
@.access:
It's obvious Luffy is going to destroy the island. Once he discovers why exactly Noah is so precious, he will use his unseen powerup to destroy the island and keep the arc safe.
This is a really good idea, cause it'd be very luffyish from him to do that.
Once he finds out that the merfolk should stay on the surface too, FI will be history.
But I don't c Hody turnin around 180°. He'll never be the subordinate of a human who smashed his idol's ambitions.
Or maybe Caribou will (be forced to) do his swamp thing with Noah (they're shooting an air bubble at it, so he would not be affected by seawater)? That would make him useful…
This theory is still around? Tell me, what incentive does Caribou have to do this? What would he gain from it?
This theory is still around? Tell me, what incentive does Caribou have to do this? What would he gain from it?
Well, if he doesn't do it, he will drown like a hammer. That'd be enuff motivation 4 me!
Yeah, but that infinite swamp thing is just sth that might come in handy this arc. IDK if its for Noah or sth else.
Or the SHs will meet him in MJ when he tries to sell the mermaids directly to the tenryuubito. Sanji would rape him in an instant!
Wadatsumi being a giant cushion planned by Sanji would be great. Then it would be our first or 2nd fake out of the Island being destroyed. Luffy can smash it to bits at his leisure later on.
Actually if Noah is coated in a bubble doesn't that mean that it will pass through the outter bubble without breaking it - although it will break the inner bubble it would also mean that Noah could not be moved easily. But if it did break the island it would be inside the Bubble allowing people to board it from inside FI.
Pretty sure Noah won't be destroyed. They've noted various times that the ship has some importance and shouldn't be destroyed. I think it's a lot more likely that now that people are fleeing the island, that the ship destroys the island. It won't make a full collision but if it just pops the bubble, the water spilling in will cause a lot of destruction. Fishmen still on the island will survive. Any other humans(Like the Okama's that gave Sanji blood" have probably already fled the island. After the Strawhats win their fights, Noah will pop the bubble, and Jinbe or the Royal Guardsmen will provide bubble coral for the slaves and Strawhats.
My guess is that after Noah's history is revealed, it will be coated and will be used to bring the Fishman and Merfolk into the New World. They can continue using their bubble tech since the mangrove roots must go to a place in the New World(as ships need to be Coated to go back to the first half).
I doubt Noah will be destroyed as well. But what if it just happens to get damaged and it just happens to be an ancient weapon? Franky should have a good idea of how the thing was constructed given he had blueprints to one of the weapons for years. He might be able to fix it up.
When Franky saw Noah for the first time and he threw up that big "!?" I wonder if it actually meant something beyond general surprise.
You make it sound like it's so easy.
of course it was easy..the man who can destroy a building can surely hold noah for some time and put it somewhere else.
of course it was easy..the man who can destroy a building can surely hold noah for some time and put it somewhere else.
Last time I checked, Noah was a lot bigger than some old building.
As big as half the size of Fishman Island.
Plus, even though this obviously doesn't follow real-world logic, destroying something with this mass/velocity is easier than bringing it to a stop and directing the movement somewhere else. Anyways that won't happen I'm sure.
Perhaps Fishman Island is some kind of ghetto. A convenient way of removing Fishfolk from the daily lives of humans, sticking them down at the bottom of the ocean.
Perhapss this awful truth is a secret held for generations, the order to create the island from the World Government locked away inside Noah, this mysterious Joy Boy may have brokered the deal to set this place up, hence, the apology poneglyph.
Luffy would destroy the island in an instant if he knew it was a tool to keep fishfolk under the sea, out of the way, and under control.

That would be an awesome revelation. I sure hope something like that comes to pass.
I don't think "Joy Boy" has anything to do with Fishman Discrimination at all.
Weren't these poneglyphs created before the Void Century? Before the World Government came to be?
Joy Boy and Noah might be connected, but I don't think Joy Boy has any immediate connection to the racist issues.

I like Tahkyn's idea.
Also had in mind that Noah was either a slave ship or sth like the ark to move an enitre merfolk civilization. Noah's ark also got filled with a load of animals to escape from the flood.
I am not so sure bout Joy Boy. Could he have steered that ark back then?
maybe the ancient void dynasty (enemy of wg back then) wanted to apologize to the merfolk for not doin anything against that "moving".
It's confirmed that fishmen built Noah by themselves long time ago.
My personal theory is that this Joy Boy is involved in the creation of fishmen and merfolk. I find it strange for Oda to create a race such strange. I mean, they all have features coming from so many different species and they aren't even hereditary. So maybe the first fishmen were the result of an experiment to mix human with fishes and all the genetic code used is dormant in fishmen leading to very different traits among the race.
I think Luffy will destroy the island intentionally to destroy the circle of hatred.

What evidence is there for that? It's in part a fantasy manga, different races are perfectly normal. Arlong said that fishmen evolved over centuries, there's no reason to assume they were "created" any more than a reason to assume that giants or long-arms were created.

No evidence. Just a personal feeling. I won't shove it into your throat to make you believe it.
And while it's normal for a fantasy story to have different races, I find fishmen and merfolks (which are the same race) not really logical and coherent in their characteristics and their "breeding mechanics". All individuals of the other races share common characteristics: long arms have two elbows and giants are… giant, but every fishman is different from the other. Theier only common trait is their ability to breathe underwater.

As Den said, that's a very human way of thinking.
