That was a bummer. Instead of seeing more variations of the water attacks Hody used against Zoro and in the plaza, he just spent the entire fight trying to charge into Luffy. Very lame.
Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
-
-
There's always Hody's Rehab cover story that is yet to come. :ninja:
Oh yeah! just like Arlong, Enel, Croc, Rob Lucci and others got theirs!
Now, if you're talking about "rehab from drugs"…that would be...uncalled for.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I thought it was Muramasa.. I just checked to see I was wrong… never heard of Murasame [just wiki'd it, and apparently it does in a Japanese novel].
Oda could make Jinbe do some better attack called Masamune or something.
The intention of "murasame" was to make a pun on "same" which means "shark" and the sword with the same name.
My biggest dissapointment was to see the NW captains getting lolpwned by the Pacifista so easily like if they were fodder.
-
NW captains owned Pacifistas. It was only fodder that couldn't take them on.
-
The Neptune Princes. Must I say more?
-
@Baou:
The Neptune Princes. Must I say more?
Fukaboshi's cool though. Agreed on the other 2.
-
Yeah, Hody not using more actual Fishman Karate moves was disappointing, was really hoping to see more of those.
-
Saving it for Jinbe?
-
Possibly, but from what we've seen of each they both have their own individual fighting styles so I'm not sure. Not a huge thing, still love Hody, I just always wanted to see him do more _things_ ;-;
-
To satisfy my disappointing in lack of Hody-style Karate attacks,and the princes lack of fighting/overrated-ness:
I would of liked it if the princes were actually able to fight against Hody,and not just get slapped around…..God.....Hody just one-shotted Ryuu and Mano...Just would of liked it if they antagonized Hody,forcing him to use more attacks.And if they used Merman combat attacks,too.That two-page spread of them taking out those beast,I was so happy seeing that....Then they go get themselves captured and just derp around intill the Strawhats save the day....
-
They took an off screen beating and got shot full of holes and are still able to keep fighting against a guy who would solo CP9. Oda could have given the other two more character development and showcased more of their combat skills but their few onscreen showings are hardly disappointing.
-
Well, it's not actually the most disapponting thing by all means, but I do find it disappointing of what happened to Chopper. He was really awesome in his introduction, and he actually looked more like a reindeer. This 'cute' thing doesn't cut it for me. And his personality was more like a curious creature who wants to explore the world, rather than a child who needs you to explain everything to him.

I, for one, am so perpetually happy with One Piece that these are currently my biggest disappointments with it:
- Luffy hasn't had a chance to ask Decken any wildly inappropriate questions about his bodily functions and whether having four legs affects them.
- The obvious question about Decken hasn't appeared on SBS yet.
…well, it's a heavy arc and I'm easily amused. :sad:
-
But it makes for good merchandise.
That doesn't make it any better :ninja:
Btw, who's that guy in your avatar? He looks awesome.

On topic: I'm probably gonna get a lot of crap for this, but I'm still not fully used to some of the timeskip designs yet, most notably, one of my favorites, Brook. I've become adjusted with all of the other SHs.. even the biggest changer, Franky, after I saw he retained some of his old trademarks (speedo, shades, spiky hair) and his new quirks are amazing (nipple lights FTW). However, one of the reasons why I fell in love with Brook was because of his gentlemanly character. And as undeniably cool his new persona, Soul King, may be, his new rocker personality is a complete 180 from the classical gentleman from the days of old. (Though he still has the cane and tux, so there's a nice balance.) However, I absolutely LOVE the new techniques Oda gave him and how he's fleshing out his character like never before. He has a bit of a spark that he hasn't had before either. It feels like he's broken out of his shell and he is really meshing well with the crew, so maybe it's for the better. I just hope he hasn't completely abandoned his classical side and won't be afraid to break out the violin once in a while! (Though a rock version of Bink's Sake would be amazingly amazing!!!)
-
^ I was worried about that at first, but he still does use his violin, and he actually did use it earlier when he fought NFP fodder.
I'm actually really waiting to see some techniques with his shark guitar :o
-
Ah that's right, almost forgot about that one! I can't wait to see what tricks he has up his sleeve with that guitar also. Maybe it has DF powers
-
When Oda has to take a break.
-
Hiramaru never gets a break, why does Oda get one!
-
When Enel lost 2 Luffy. A man wit his abilities and talents should have taken down Luffy quite easily.
=D -
@GolD.:

=DEnel was stupid.

When Oda has to take a break.
Oda is a highly advanced robot created by Shueisha in order to make them more money.
He shouldn't have to take a break. It's not in his programming.It's not like he's human or anything.
-
lets See.. i overall, like all of the characters in way or another, and most of the Arcs, etc…. so what i don't like:
The ThrillerPark Arc was interesting, but once we got the end fights it felt like a Dragshoot came out and the fight went on forever. The other time I felt this was when we only had ONLY luffy as our dude and no regulars, it felt pretty dragged about too, the end fight to save Ace was pretty awesome and some intense shit happened during it, but i feel like it was probably alot longer than it actually was. (preventing rereading) Though i admit this may have been affected by Bleachs sudden LETS TAKE FOREVER TO FIGHT AIZEN BS may have affected my feelings about it.
And then recent arc all though pretty awesome, Sanji was abit to annoying? I tried not to blame guy, he had been away from real boobs for a long while. But a real complaint was why the hell was the Princes such goddamn pushovers in general? why was everyone in the royal forces such pushovers? I guess it's a general manga complaint but eh.
-
@Gia:
Enel was stupid.
He wasn't stupid, he was crazy. There's a difference.
Idk wat the difference is thou.

Depends. Amazon Lily and especially Impel Down were some of the worstly paced arcs in One Piece IMO. Marineford was more like a reversed Fishman Island. In the first 20 chapters or so, it felt like it was endlessly dragging out with the only thing happening being random big guns fighting each others with no conclusion or plot relevance. I remember I almost thought at some point: "Isn't this getting longer than Alabasta?" Then Luffy rescued Ace, Akainu killed Ace, Whitebeard pwned Akainu, Blackbeard Pirates arrived, Whitebeard died, Blackbeard stole Whitebeards Devil Fruit, Blackbeard went crazy, Akainu resurrected and went crazy, Law suddenly appeared, Coby stopped the war for a moment, and finally Shanks suddenly arrived and ended the war. And all that happened in less than 10 chapters, and I was very surprised to find out afterwards that the arc actually only had about 30 chapters, which is only slightly longer than Arlong and Baratie.
The reason I say "reversed Fishman Island" was that FI felt ridiculously fastly paced before the flashback, with them changing locations every chapter and all, and then it became all fine afterwards (the flashback was a bit of both; I would have liked to see more of Fisher Tiger, but the Otohime part had a perfect length).'So yeah, to add something to the thread I've been the most disappointed with One Piece's pacing as of lately.

How was ID bad pacing? It had everything you mentioned in your post you liked: it kept changing location,focusing on the 'mini-adventures' of each group of characters,who all eventually met eachother.That's the way One Piece has been since Arlong Park,but in ID's case,instead of the SH's breaking off and regrouping,it was Luffy's prison-break-out allies:Mr 2,Mr3 and Buggy. And I thought the arc whent ridiculously fast paced after they broke Jinbei and Croc out of level 6,and they worked their way up from level 6 all the way to the entrance,with everyone coming togther. And the fights had conclusions.
Also,there was a time-limit,remeber.I think after Luffy was revived,they had 3 hours intill Ace's execution,IIRC.So there was that sense of urgency
-
Amazon Lily felt like it had two or three chapters cut out of the middle. Impel Down I didn't have many problems with the pacing itself, but some parts of Marineford felt very sluggish and at times messy. I do hope that the ''big melee'' style used then and during the recent Fishman Island chapters aren't going to be Oda's new standard for arc climaxes.
-
While Amazon Lily was by no means an outstanding arc, I don't see what exactly felt missing or rushed?
-
I guess I'm just put off by how quickly and neatly the conflict was solved, and how the fact that Hancock was perfectly willing to have her adoring subjects killed just for the hell of it (with Luffy even pointing out how messed up that was) was treated so non-chalantly.
-
I will admit that Amazon lilly has some issues, and its best not to try and think about it to hard. I also admit i might have been having to many lesbian fantasys about it to have noticed.
-
I didn't like Amazon lily,either,but Oda acomplished what was needed:
Introduced the final Shich,and allied with her
Haki explained better,and Luffy 'unlocking' conquerors color
Celestial dragons were better explained
Fisher tiger hinted/foreshadowed
Luffy learned about Ace.
And the story branched off a few chaps to show the other SH's
And
! :ninja:

@GolD.:
He wasn't stupid, he was crazy. There's a difference.

=DIm pretty sure he was just stupid, he had next to no actual fighting capability other than his devil fruit. Its just Oda's answer to putting an extremely powerful villain so early in the manga. I mean, he can reappear and become more badass, but we'll see.
-
The biggest thing I dislike about the series is the pacing. Especially in the longer arcs. I'm reading Skypiea and find myself skipping pages because a lot of it isn't relevant and only build-up. Some say the fishman officers are dull, but the priests are even worse. Except Gedatsu. Nobody should hate Gedatsu. Enel and the backstory of Skypiea really were the best aspects about that arc aside from all the cool crew adventure and action stuff every arc has.
-
@Gia:
Im pretty sure he was just stupid, he had next to no actual fighting capability other than his devil fruit.
So what? are you calling luffy, robin and chopper (pre-timeskip) stupid just becuase they also have no actual fighting capability other than their devil fruit.
-
I'm sure robin would pass out if she took a kick by Luffy in the gut….
-
So what? are you calling luffy, robin and chopper (pre-timeskip) stupid just becuase they also have no actual fighting capability other than their devil fruit.
Uhmmm, no thats not wat i meant. Enel completely depended on his fruit to save him. Luffy on the other hand doesn't need his devil fruit to have the MASSIVE strength and endurance he has. If you want to get technical than just look at the difference between Enel and Akainu. Enel would have never survived two earthquakes to the body by Whitebeard. Plus, Akainu has no mercy as he blew peoples faces off; thats what i call a difference in fighting. Maybe i shouldnt have said stupid, but what i meant to say he COMPLETELY relies on his DF, which is not the case for many other characters.
-

He also had haki.
And even after his fruit was made completely useless he still put up a good fight. -
Enel had a huge arsenal of attacks.He developed his powers.It's just that he was a normal dude who found the fruit and was like 'holy shit,I can turn to lightning!! I am GOD!!" his normal body isn't that strong,cause he wasn't part of a military organization,or pirate group whos always in contact with strong people.
-
He also had haki.
And even after his fruit was made completely useless he still put up a good fight.What i mean is not like other villains however. Crocodile took more of a beating than he did, and he wasn't on the ground several times. Lets face it, Enels cockiness got the best of him. Awesome villain imo still.
-
That my cover story theory didn't come true ;A;
Mocktown:Celebrating two infamous pirates
It would show the inside of the bar that Luffy and Blackbeard first met,and on the wall behind the counter would be two huge bounty posters:Luffy and Blackbeards.Kinda like celebrating them…of something.
-
The fact that it has to end.
-
The fact that it has to end
After trying to think of something that has TRULY disappointed me in a series which I have worshipped for 10 years, I think that this sums it up nicely. I think of what Im gonna be like when that final chapter comes out, and all I see is emptiness. Cause nothing comes close to this in terms of thoughtful and eventful storytelling.
Honestly, I wouldn't change any aspect of it so far. Deaths were timely, tragic, and effective. Power-ups made some amount of sense in the long run, and were devastatingly awesome. The time skip felt necessary to move the plot and make sense. Every character that has been hyped in some way or another has been awesome. The only real issue I have is with the anime, and obviously since this is a manga thread, I don't have to discuss my issues with that xP
Maybe the one thing that disappoints me the most besides the fact that it has to end is that it's not real XD I want to live it, call me crazy. It'd be epic.

Me too! I'd love to be with Luffy .

My only complaint so far (that can disappear in a glance) is the Fishman Island. I think it was more like "exploration". Anyway, thinking better, I like where is going. Let's see what happens next.

If you don't like the exploration and adventure parts in One Piece, I'm not sure if this adventure manga is the right choice for you. Anyway, I also have problems with these parts in FI but only because they seemed a bit rushed to me. I'd have liked two or three chapters more until we get to FI, and maybe some more chapters who explain the history of the Fishmen District, how the Cafe came to be, etc. I really loved Skypeia because of all the background information we received and because the adventourous feeling was also transmitted throught eh hardships the crew had to face just to get to this place. I'd have liked a bit more elaboration on that part.
-
One piece is the best manga in the world, this is the only thing I dont like: Luffy didnt grow durning the timeskip! Comon he could at least gotten a little bit taller, get bigger muscles and broader shoulders, he's shoulders are like a 14 year old.
-
^ I'm only hope for a different hair style, but nope :(
Nothing to be disappoint in the current chapters. -
Oh boy not this again. Why does the height of the character have to correlate with his power? Does it not make a bigger impact on you that a character short in stature compared to the rest of the world, which is much bigger for the most part, is the one who will become King? Luffy coming from the weakest Blue and him being a small character will carry a much heavier air when he becomes PK, then if he was a hulking character. Great spirit and ambition looks a lot better than simply "he's tall", and carries a much more impactful message. Besides, he's only 19, maybe he will grow a bit later on, but I guarantee it won't be something exponential. Though I do agree with you on the muscle area. He could have gotten a big more cut lol. But who knows what effect his DF has on the growth and stimulation of muscles.

Luffy should look his age.Thats all we want.He looks like a kid till now.
