Natsu's was almost pulling an Ace and going in to die too, but stopped because it would be a terrible rip-off if it isn't already.
I read this chapter in literally 4 minutes anyway, just rushing through the crap.
Fairy Taint Discussion II

Even though it seems very likely Makarov is really going to die this time, there's still his son Iwan and the Gajeel spying thing. I'm still sceptical about Makarov dying before this is resolved.
Well Laxus is back and Iwan's his father, so…..
-
@Thousand:
And what terrible dialogue in the end.
"Does the death of a person make you sad?"
"Can sadness itself kill a person?"God, Mashima can't write good, emotionally moving dialogue to save his life.
Honestly, the impact would have been tenfold if he had just left the panels without dialogue.
-
Makarov won't die as long as the tree is standing. Unless Mashima forgot about that.
-
Dragon design is bit odd, dont know what to say about the chapter it depends on the next one, well finally they are running.
I was hoping laxus knocking out natsu. -
Yawn. .
-
Does the death of a person make you sad?

Did Mashima just directly rip off Oda? Oh wait, I forgot about his career…
It's not like he even does a good ripoff of Oda. He just takes moments he thought were cool and isolates them from what made them cool.
-
These last few chapters have left me hungry for blood, I want Mashima to follow up on his foreshadowing that blood. Makarov better be dead. Hell, I'd even settle for some characters I like (more then Makarov, not that I hate the guy) biting the dust.
I also got a little laugh out of Luxus' teammates. Two of them are just about the strongest mages in Fairy Tail, in completely healthy condition and they got knocked over, chibified. The most useful mages their are completely useless…why? Cause bad writing.
-
This chapter was…okay. It really all depends on how well or poor the coming ones turn out to be.
I have no problems with the dragon's design myself. It's certainly much more impressive and well-drawn than some ''other'' destructive forces of nature that've been in shonen manga recently coughKyuubicough.
-
Old men masters staying behind against an unbeatable foe to protect their students from certain death is a staple of fiction. Gandalf, anyone?
Say what else you want, but don't you guys all get tired of saying Mashima is ripping off of One Piece when he's really just using every trope in the book without variation? Call him a hack for his color-by-numbers manga, say Oda did it better. But damn if it don't get tired hearing everyone talk about how he's ripping off of One Piece all the damn time.
Mashima's uncreative. Leave it at that.
-
I'm much more bothered by the fact that this is the fourth time that it's happened and any and all sense of suspension has been utterly destroyed. It doesn't help that it's handled pretty poorly with this new impending demise having the least amount of build-up bordering on it being random (hell forget bordering, it is random).
-
just read the fail before reading comments here
Well Natsu is just pathetic. Declining the only lesson he received in his life up to his final moments. In front of his two teachers with one of them dying for the sake of him using this lesson.
And let me guess - Zeref is acnologia dragonslayer. What a tweeest f*ck my ass. -
Natsu didn't exactly learn his lesson. He was just obeying orders. If he had his way, he would have tried to fight the dragon on his own.
-

That's even better. Being a marionette with only one own command instead of declining the only lesson.

Yay I can view this site again. Friggin virus alerts.
This chapter wasn't too bad…damnit...Is this a sign we'll get a dragon arc? I really wanted to quit after the last one lol.
I actually liked the dragon's design. Although now I'm confused about the explanation of how Dragons view humans. Are the Dragons that train human kids like the nerdy bug guy that talks to his beetles? -

if we do have a dragon arch next, i could see igneel coming, black dragon Vs Fire Dragon anyone.
the chap was okay, i guess the question is mikarov going to finally RIP, this is like the perfect time for it.
am surprise rusy rose and caine the fat dude are still alive.
-
Wow… I'm surprised Mashima is going to let Makarov die LIKE HE SHOULD'VE DONE WHEN THE ARC BEGAN. Then again, Gerard is still alive, so...
-
well for FT standards this was a good chapter

C'mon, it's time to wash your head-scales. In the toilet!" He never came back.

Yes exactly. Mystery solved.
I'd dunk a Igneel's head too for having anything to do with Natsu lol.

The rip off wouldn't be so appalling if it were just that. The entire "This is my final order as your leader" bit was taken and the "You cannot disobey your master's order" bit. Clichés though those may still be, he's working with a pretty specific series of clichés.
-
Did Mashima just directly rip off Oda?
Did you selectively forget Hoteye ?
All in all a mediocre chapter, because one it reminds me of something else, and two, not very sure how seriously I should take this.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Thousand:
Natsu didn't exactly learn his lesson. He was just obeying orders. If he had his way, he would have tried to fight the dragon on his own.
And made this series a million times better by dying.
Seriously, does anyone ever feel anything for Natsu ? Other then disgust ? Because I can't imagine his death leaving an impact on anybody.
-
I'm so glad I quit this series. I could come in this thread and watch instead of making fun of you guys.
-
This is just speculation but could acnologia be the servant of the dragon king it was hinted in 250 editor's note "what is acnologia a servant of the devil or?" and for anyone who doesnt remember the dragon king

Consididering that Mashima is trying to pass this dragon off as the friggin' apocalypse (aka: The biggest threat in his fictional world), he kinda has to kill Makarov now. Otherwise that dragon looses any credibility as a threat. Also in regards to the tree, the Magic Council was prepping their giant space laser, that'll probably take care of the damn thing.
-
Chapter was fine, except that everything seemed to be taken from elsewhere. The father-figure sacrifice has been done many a time, and Zeref's line about how the Black Dragon views humanity is almost carbon-copy what Homunculus/Father said to Al and Ed when they asked him why the Homunculus hate humanity.
-
IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PROGRESS INTO THE FUTURE WITH OUT FIRST MAKING A SACRIFICE?!
No. Not in Fairy Tail.
-
Maybe the black dragon trained zeref and hes the death dragon slayer.
-
Don't take Fairy Tail too seriously and you'll find yourselves tolerating this series.

I see it as plain sound logic really. If you're a super-entity with superior power and intelligence, you're only going to see humans as pets at most, and pests at least.
Edit:
I'll give this chapter a 4/5 because I like dragons, and I like Makarov. I'll acknowledge that Makarov is too much like Whitebeard, just as Gildartz is too much like Shanks. Then again, WB reminds me of Galuf.I'll give the arc a 1/5 for story, and a 3/5 for art.

I for one like acknologias design
-
That was a pretty good chapter, the dragon has a cool design. And i for one am wondering what Zeref will do with the bishonen and the fatty.
-
Also in regards to the tree, the Magic Council was prepping their giant space laser, that'll probably take care of the damn thing.
I think you're giving Mashima way too much credit plot-wise because that would actualy make sense, and we all know that's not what he's good at.
-
very nice chapter, loved the dragon making everyone shit their pants.
the insect comparison was cool, too. totally made sense. "i'm a huge and powerful super dragon, so fuck everything else!" lol
and it looks like this is the end of the road for the guild master.
at least i'm hoping that mashima follows through now that he's gone with the whole "final orders" thing.
please don't disrespect something like that by having him survive, mashima. -
-
The dragon looks decent, but this is what should have happened during the fight with Hades & gang in the fucking first place.
-
@No:

Perhaps, but for me Fairy Tail isn't bad enough not to give it the author the benefit of a doubt. It hasn't done anything to offend (Racism, pedobait, etc.) me, More often than not Mashima manages to produce something that's actually pretty decent (in bits and pieces), which I think shows that he's at least trying. Unfortunatly for a number of different reasons Mashima just keeps stumbling upon old problems and
Unless Mashima suddenly sinks to Tite Kubo/ Rob Liefield levels of not giving a fuck I prefer to remain optimistic. I like to have a damn good reason to be cynical. -
Maybe the black dragon trained zeref and hes the death dragon slayer.
exactly what I was thinking so it would fulfill the surprise dragon slayer checkmark.
-
Eh not much happened in this chapter, the dragon comes down and wreaks things. And a lot of talking on what they could do but can't cause its too powerful. Marakov little speech was touching though. Course if he does die or not is up to Mashima, I would love to see the brawl between the dragon and him at least.
-

He kind of already did in the past.
I think you know what I mean, I just hate to constantly repeat it over and over again.
-
Maybe the black dragon trained zeref and hes the death dragon slayer.
That's what I was thinking.
And whoever mentioned the Tenrou Tree, I think it was StrawChan, that's a good point. How can mashima create any suspense towards Marakov possibly dying with that giant tree standing there? The tree that prevents Fairy Tail members from dying.
Chapter was alright for me. I'm still disappointed Natsu doesn't know when to run. He learned absolutely nothing this arc. No wait, he learned something then decided to shelf the lesson and not ever put it to use again.
-
The dragon either knocks the tree down again or its death magic (or something…) smothers the tree's own magic. There, easy.
-
The tree should turn into a monster
-

It'd be horribly contrived but yeah, it's doable. Then Ultear comes along later and fixes back up again? Surely FT can't just leave the tree that gives them their power boosts lying there dead for the rest of the series.
The tree should turn into a monster
Tenrou Tree, surprise final boss.

" they get stronger with every opponent they face"
Is this funi's way of writing off all of the future natsu ass pulls? -
