Not to be Doctor Killjoy, but I'm pretty sure that has been their line for the past two or so cons this season.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

-
Yeah, that's not News at all.
-
Why is it so hard to renew the rights?
-
Because Toei Animation consists of dumbfucks.
-
Aww man! Now we gotta wait until next week to hear about Funimation continuing negotiations. As long as it is not out right dropped I am grateful.
-
Why is it so hard to renew the rights?
Because One Piece costs lots of money to be distributed here. And because Toei doesn't really care one way or the other.

What do you mean they don't care?
-
What do you mean they don't care?
It's making enough money back home that they can afford to play hardball overseas. The second Toei stops getting money (Dragon Ball Kai) is the second they rush to licensees with cheaper fees.
-
^^^ as cruel as it is. its just business.
its still sad to hear stuff we have been hearing for a while. oh well
like ive said on numerous occasions, don't worry. our time will come
-
I wonder how many episodes Funi is trying to acquire. May depend on how well they think it is selling…if they think it is worth it maybe they are trying to get a lot of episodes and that's why it is taking so long. It's anyone's guess really just hope we get some kind of news soon.
-
Hey everyone.
Last week my Amazon pricewatch site informed me that most of the Season Three volumes finally dropped to my desired price so I went and ordered them finally.
At which point I figure, "Well, since I have Season 3 now, it's time to put Season 4 onto the pricewatch."
Then I notice there is no season 4 to add.
What manner of deal is this?

Season 4 does not exist in the U.S. If you go back a few pages you'll understand what I mean.

With ten minutes left to the panel, Sheehan opened up a question-and-answer session, during which Rojas revealed that negotiations are currently underway to acquire the rights to release more dubbed One Piece episodes.
Same old news, but it is always good to hear. Really any Con now and we could be getting the great news! No longer if but when.

bout to share the same thing. see nay sayers they do want one piece
-
Good to be back on the forums, I forgot my pass word and finally remembered it! Anyway, hopefully Otakon has season 4 news on One Piece!
-
^ That's where I bet all my chips. If not here, than nowhere.
-
Well, they have to be somewhere. It just feels like everything has been building up for this. Not to mention, they said there'd be news close to when season 3 is finished, the next big funi con is NYAF, which is in October.
-
There's no telling when they'll announce it. Be patient people.
-
If you buy Funimation Anime from Amazon, be sure to check your Gold Box Quick Picks for the One Piece Collections. I've gotten both One Piece collection 1 & 2 in my gold box for $18.99 each, saving two dollars in total. I know it's not much, but every little bit helps!
-
I just ordered three copies of One Piece collection 1 and 2 from RightStuf, mainly 1 for me (since I want to double-dip on this series) and a copy each for my friends who are big fans of One Piece, and since me and my mates are not american's I figure to import them to my country and sell a copy each to my friends.

It's about time we hear actual word that negotiations are going on with FUNi and Toei for the next series of One Piece. Surely this should put all the speculations about them not picking up the next season to rest. I hope anyway.
-
I can't help but notice that whenever FUNimation is asked about One Piece, their responses are becoming increasingly positive. When I asked them about it at AB, they didn't say much more than they wanted to keep going with it. At A-Cen, they mentioned that getting more One Piece 'was certainly in negotiation.' Now, they tell us that negotiations are 'currently underway.' I think we might get news soon, if not at Otakon, then some time later in the year. However, if we're already this late in the year then this means we might not get Season 4 until at minimum next Spring.

long as i know its coming for sure, ill wait as long as it takes

I don't know what the turnaround is between contract and announcement, but unless they are at the end of negotiations I doubt we'll get an Otakon announcement - of course it would be awesome if we got one, but I believe the turn of phrase would be something along the lines of the announcement coming out while the ink is still drying.
They DID, however, say at Anime Expo that they were going to try and get something good for Otakon. Maybe this is what they meant?

It seems to be rather quick actually. Last year, FUNimation announced at AX that they did not have the rights to Eva 2.0 but were able to make the announcement that they got it at Otakon just a few weeks later. If they did get it over the next week, it wouldn't be hard to quickly cook up a Power Point page to announce it.
-
I kinda hope FUNimation uploads their Comic Con panel on their site, usually articles like these confuse what they say in writing.
-
Looks like they have a lot to announce though. Their Otakon panel is a full hour and a half long, 6-7:30 on Friday.

Not necessarily. A while back Wal Mart posted the first Dragon Ball set Funi put out on their website (including the official boxart they ended up using) before the announcement, and Funimation denied having the rights . . . only to announce they had it a few weeks later a con. Unless Funimation really, really jumped the gun and had materials ready to go out the door before they were done negotiating and sent it off to Wal Mart early, they'd already had the rights for a while and basically had to lie to everyone about having the series because of what I would assume is the contract.
This was, however, a couple of years ago. The industry may have changed enough in that time period to allow for the turnaround to speed up between the contracts being finalized and the actual announcement, and Otakon is certainly big enough to warrant a major announcement of any kind (not just One Piece).
-
I hope to dear god we get both a One Piece and a Hellsing announcement.
It's off topic, but they announced Hellsing V-VII and the Hellsing TV series at LAST YEAR'S AX, but we've still got no new word.

If I remember correctly there was licensing issues with multiple Geneon licenses, including Tenchi.
I think people are building themselves up for Otakon way too much. If FUNi doesn't announce it, that doesn't mean that they are done with One Piece forever and that's that, it could be really complicated and FUNi is trying their hardest to license more.

Yeah, FUNimation grabbed the licenses to every rescue they announced at AX last year and the Toaru Majutsu series as Geneon was finishing its merger with Universal Studios Japan, leading to a major licensing limbo. Hopefully this too will be addressed at Otakon since I would like an inexpensive Hellsing box set as well as Roberta's Blood Trail.

True, but when I said Otakon I meant that was it for the summer cons. People want to hear this lisence has been confirmed soon, so I said a long time ago that Otakon was my best bet for their summer conventions season. The fall ones though, are more likely.
-
When is the Otakon panal?
-
Friday @6pm. Don't know exactly what time zone that is.

EST. The con is held in Baltimore, MD.
-
Thanks a lot! Will be looking forward to it :)
-
Does anybody know when the next anime expo is? I know it's near the end of July but what is the exact day. I hope they announce something about One Piece season 4 there!
-
We've told you over and over again, Anime Expo is only once a year. Otakon is this Friday at 6PM EST. Mark your calendar or something before you forget again

EDT, technically. It is summer, after all.
-
So it's the 29th…thanks
-
Don't know where it went, but when ANN was covering the SDCC, they said that FUnimation answered a One Piece season 4 question by saying that they are in negotiations.
-
@Lil:
So it's the 29th…thanks
No. No it's not.
The Next Anime Expo is the first weekend of July 2012.
Otakon however, is the 29th of this month.
-
Thanks Rin. I didnt want to correct Him/Her without being sure.

I'm pretty sure when Lil Kis keeps asking about an anime expo, they don't mean Anime Expo but the next anime convention.
-
This should help out the people forgetting the convention dates.
The next con I'm going to is Youmacon in November. FUNimation themsleves won't be attending but Vic Mignogna will so hopefully I'll get to chat with him again.
-
I thought would have reached an agreement already. This might be even worse than the days of Funi making us wait all year for new DBZ episodes on Toonami.
Wonder what Toei is being difficult about this time?
-
Probably the payment amount.
-
I've been checking Amazon anime DVD rankings lately and "One Piece" Collection One is doing pretty good. Right now on the Top 100 anime DVDs it's in the top 20.
-
Yeah I meant the next anime convention. So 3 more days and we may find something out!
