I do not know why people think Jinbe won't join the crew because Luffy did not overwhelm him in strength… How many times did Luffy fight Zoro? And what was the outcome of those fights? Right.
Chapter 629:The Ex Warlord Stands In the Way
-
-
hodi probanly just overestimates his own strength… he thinks he's unbeatable with his es pills
That's most likely it. If he really believes fishmen are superior to humans than he'd definitely have blinders on to the activities of strong humans. He calls Zoro conceited (depending on which translation you read) for some reason even though the odds should have been completely against him when he was able to land a hit. Lack of air and a pill break seemed to really be the only reason Hodi was able to capture them quickly.
Also Hodi is violating many rules from the Peter's Evil Overlord List. http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html
-Keeping allies locked up together.
-Not killing them when he as the chance.
-Assuming he's more powerful.
-Taunting pointlessly.
-Leaving the prisoners unguarded.
-Giving the exact time he'll carry out his plan.
-Indulging in maniacal laughter. The list goes on. It's proof he's bound to fail.
-
Here I am, late again. What is left to be said about this chapter?
Besides finding Pandamerman, but he hasn't shown up in a bit yet…So, I will proceed to the next step, i.e. "While Sanji fights off Caribou/Decken/both, Brook sneaks by and rescues Shirahoshi. It'll be just like that time in Strong World, only bigger and better."
Now, I'll be off to listen to the Ghostbusters' Theme again.
-
I find the "Luffy didn't use Haki" angle both very logical and very illogical, somehow at the same time. On the one hand, it would certainly explain why Jimbei so contemptuously said "This is the fruit of your training!?" if he thought that all Luffy accomplished was more physical strength, and is still just doing little but hitting his opponent hard. And it would open up an easy avenue for Luffy to suddenly up and show that he definitely gained a hell of a lot more than what Jimbei apparently thinks. He also did not seem to use Mantra from what I could tell. Maybe because it doesn't really come "instinctively" for Luffy to use Haki yet? He knows it, and can use it at will, but when he's just going to throw a punch he'll do it the "old" way?
But that leads me to the other hand. Why wouldn't Luffy use it against Jimbei? Neither shade at that? Jimbei's an ex-Shichibukai and we know that Luffy respects their strength, and he respects Jimbei's since their team-up of two years ago. Why let himself get hit pretty hard and be "merely" equal with Jimbei instead of smoothly one-upping him with a sprinkle of Haki? Now I realize that it was a very short scuffle, not a proper fight, so that could help explain it. Furthermore, I assumed that when Luffy used what looked like a perfectly normal Jet Pistol and Sentoumaru mentally commented "He used Haki!!", that was Oda's way of telling us that Luffy now uses Haki in his attacks. Of course that'd run contrary to what I said above, but to be frank Luffy has been learning the stuff for 2 years and spent a whole six months all on his own using it.

Just waitin' for someone to ask Oda in SBS why Robin's clothes also are copied when she clones herself. :P
By the way, why did some people get the farfetched idea that it's teleportation? Her power doesn't have anything to do with that, and the usual petals when she's using her powers also appeared.
If it isn't her DF powers, then it's Soru but that doesn't explain the petals. -

Even though, a "hana Hana" bikini, a dress made of her own powers would be interesting.
-
Daruma hates candy!? Chopper better beat the crap out of him!!
-
Wait what dose Brook mean by who he did first? Is that a intentional sex joke, I assumed from the blood drip.
-
DAMN. ZORO IS SEXY.
And Robiiiiiiiiiiiin WTFFFFFFFFFFF?!?!?!
Brook's new power. It's awesome :D -
Sweet. Looks like either Robin has achived full body cloning or less likely she learned Soru(which would be a fun trick for Oda to play at us). It's kinda predictable but still nice. Now I know that the possibility is small but I REALLY REALLT want Nico Robin's powers to have grown to the point where she can turn herself into a giant( I don't care what explanation they give to make possible) rather then simply sprouting gigantic limbs. This would extremely cool and finally give Nico Robin a chance to get more into fighting.
-
Wow, damn good chapter this week. New powers, humor, plot progression, etc.
-
I still think Jinbe has CoA, just because he was able to defend against Akainu's magma.
-
Pappug running is so hilarious. I've never pictured a starfish running like a 100m athlete (not something anyone would think about really).
-
Ahh Zoro
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v20/c175/13.html
Gone are the days when he waits for a key to open a cage, now he can just slice clean through them
-
^Well those were seastone bars. Chances are he still couldn't slice through that.
-
Pshhhhhhh. In Water 7 Zoro sliced through a TRAIN.
Now, I bet Zoro could slice through reality itself.
-
And who said that Yomi Yomi Fruit was useless.
@ultimateclima:
Mangastream got a new translator for One Piece. And here I was ready to give props to the old translator for seemingly getting better.
Their new translator, Lutris, seems to be able to speak English fluently, at least. Now let's hope his Japanese is not worse.
I still think Jinbe has CoA, just because he was able to defend against Akainu's magma.
You mean that one time when Akainu was punching Luffy through Jinbe's chest.
-
Brilliant.
Brook wandering around as a lost spirit was the part of his story that weirded me out; now it’s perfect.I like Jinbe more, too - now that I know the science behind his attacks is less about ‘martial-art-shockwave-powers.’ …Like Zoro.
-
And who said that Yomi Yomi Fruit was useless.
I remember people speculating that Brook could do more with his fruit power such as communicating with spirits and such, I just figured it was done. Man I got proven wrong in a big way and I am glad. Along with his music gaining "power" Brook is going to be surprising us left and right! So exciting!
-
I think Luffy got more damage than Jinbe in their fight.
-
I still think Jinbe has CoA, just because he was able to defend against Akainu's magma.
Didn't Akainu's magma scorch Jinbe's back as he tried to protect Luffy?
-
Chapter was pretty good. I'm hoping that now the attack on Hodie/Hordy will be mounted and Oda will begin to wrap up his plot points.
-

I think he means this: http://manga.animea.net/one-piece-chapter-574-page-5.html
-
Didn't it actually pierce his torso completely?
-
Good chapter overall, great to see that Brook is now hilarious and pretty useful.
-
Can someone tell me if Brook is completely immobile while he releases his spirit? I assume it is very much like Peronah. I doubt that fire floating around him actually burns, but what else can he do like this?
Edit: that isnt fire at all.
-
I KNEW IT! Fishman Karate does manipulate the water in people's bodies. Sweet!
-
Good chapter, it seemed to go by to fast but Oda just leaves you hungry for more
Fishman Karate is sick, and Jinbei is way more powerful then people thought. Glad that Jinbei is a solid rock in Luffy's way should make a fight very interesting. Puts the AcevJinbei fight into perspective, but I wish their was more of a fight. Like people mentioned, since it seems comedic I doubt they'll have a serious fight, and I bet VDD is gonna show up any second.
Brook's new power is awesome, I am Jealous!!
And eating Big Mam's candy factory, just puts us one step closer to a Big Mam appearance. At the very least one of her commanders.
-
Two year timeskip cover! whoa, chabo's gotten older. And I see Nami's not the only one who has gotten more gorgeous.
-
I think he means this: http://manga.animea.net/one-piece-chapter-574-page-5.html
I thought he was just bearing the pain of his body being eviscerated. Cuz Jinbe is a tough guy. If he literally was using CoA he wouldn't have burn marks on him, I think.
-
^Well those were seastone bars. Chances are he still couldn't slice through that.
Seastone bars are only effective against Devil Fruit users. That wouldn't stop Zoro.
Doruma's scene now has me SLIGHTLY closer to thinking we'll be seeing Big Mom, or more likely, one of her commanders at the end of this arc. Brook's fruit now also seems to have a lot more possibilities. Can anyone say "possession?"
-
@Zik:

Probably, but you know that Haki is used to explain pretty much anything these days.
-
Robin's new move: hana bushin no jutsu!!! Wow!! Shes a better ninja than Naruto!!
-
@Mr.333:
But look at it this way. Chapter 622, Page 7 showed us that some way, the newspaper from the surface does reach all they way down to Fishman Island/the Fishman District; since Hodi was reading about Fisher Tiger's exploits at Mariejoa. If that's the case, then shouldn't Hodi know about Luffy's raid on Enies Lobby & MarineFord, since they were widely reported in the papers? Would you really want to underestimate the crew of someone like that?
As i said - he thinks himself superior to human beings. He knows of Luffy's exploits but believes himself to be stronger.
-
Nice chapter revealing Robin's & Brook's new abilities.
I believe that in the next chapter we'll see Luffy fighting Jinbe seriously cuz there is no way that after 2 years of training and learned all 3 types of haki he is just able to do only this.I just hope that the "fight" will end in the next chapter with Jinbe realizing that Luffy has the upper hand and both going together at Ruygou palace leaving Sanji back so he'll fight VDD and/or Caribou if he wants to kidnap Shirahoshi. Now it's strange that probably Zoro & co will get free on their own and i am curious what will happen now that Hodi is about to leave the palace.Maybe they will fight again or they'll wait for Luffy and/or Jinbe? Also it was confirmed that his slash really did some serious damage to Hodi
A question, now that we learned about Fishman Karate does it mean that it can even hurt logias?I know about the fight with Ace but i find it strange because all the logias while they are in their element they don't really have human constracture.I mean for example if akainu is "on magma" how can he has water within his body?
-
@Zik:

In the anime it shot a hole through his body and got to Luffy. Oda later confirmed that this is how it was supposed to be, but it wasn't drawn very clearly.
What people are more concerned with is this.
-
I think he means this: http://manga.animea.net/one-piece-chapter-574-page-5.html
Thank you, Yes I did.
@Miss:
Seastone bars are only effective against Devil Fruit users. That wouldn't stop Zoro.
Seastone is hard as diamond, which as far as we know, Zoro can't cut.
-
Zoro can't cut seastone, remember the cage part in Arabasta?
Well at least then he couldn't. Now he might be able to. But this is just assuming the cage is seastone - which it clearly isn't if Brook can use his devil fruit abilities. -
Seastone bars are only effective against Devil Fruit users. That wouldn't stop Zoro.
I'm late to the party, but I meant that it's as hard as diamond. While we don't have any proof that Zoro couldn't now cut diamond, the fact that it's the hardest material there is (and should thus be the "ultimate" object to cut, befitting of the strongest swordsman) makes me strongly doubt that he could, as does Diamond Jozu's intercepting Mihawk's huge slash at Marineford.
-
I wonder if Brook eventually will have an ability to communicate with the dead.
@NewWorldSanji:Wait what dose Brook mean by who he did first? Is that a intentional sex joke, I assumed from the blood drip.
He didn't say "Who I did first" but, he said "What I did first". As in, he peeked the girls toilets, I'm sure.
-
I'm a bit disappointed. Luffy didn't really showcase anything and got hurt more than Jinbe did in their "fight" and to make things worse, both Luffy AND Jinbe were floored by none other than Robin. What's that all about ?????
I wasn't really counting on a one hit KO or something but Luffy already saw Jinbe's fighting skills and style and with his CoO he should've easily been able to dodge or something or equip CoA to stop Jinbe's fishmen karate from even touching his body in the first place. -
I'm a little confused. Last chapter Hodi said he was going to execute the king at Gyoncorde Plaza. This chapter he heads out for Gyoncorde Plaza. Before leaving, he basically says to his crew, "Just leave a few men behind, nobody can get in to the palace anyway. Besides, they can't just leave their king to die, right?" So… he took the king with him, right? Everybody seems to be saying that he left the king behind though...?
-
Wow.. finally after the flashback.. ITS CLOBERRIN TIME
First, Brooks power. So much possibilities… but also kinda cliche since some has been shown by perona. But here's the possibility:
1. Possesion. No ghost is completed without it. And also, I kind of imagine brrok using this to posses nami and finally get a glimpse at her panties.
2. Talk to the dead. Brook become a cellphone to the underworld. Luffy can use this to call ace... or possibly roger...!!
3. Long range Spying. Self explanatory
4. Invisibility of the soul. Its a long shot, but whats funny about that. The pappug scene is a prelude to brooks spirit meeting chopper.
5. Raising the dead. Well, only the spirits, another zombies will be boring. Necromancy is always usefull
6. Logia crushers spirit punch. Im guessing every strawhats can now harm logias, but with their own ways.Robin's Shadow bunshins. No shonen manga will be completed without some one using this technique. Even though the range and numbers are not yet known. possible uses:
1. Decoys. As shown on this chapter
2. Instant information gatherer. Unlike brookes power that requires the spirit to return first.
3. multiple combo attack. Can you imagine infinite handslap? its now possibleThats all i can think of, for now.
going to respond to robin comments since i can actually comment on and brooke is just speculation
1. obviously as we saw, and most likely the ONLY use for this power.
2. she coudl do this before, she could sprout an EYE, or an EAR, ect. If you want to be a spy, would not an ear or eye hidden somewhere in the area be better than an ENTIRE BODY.
3. don't see why having clones using her fruit would increase her fruits limitsas for her range, we have been told in past it was what she can see, though seeing how she can make eyes, her range is infite. just make an eye a few miles away, another eye a few miles from that eye, and so on.
but really this new ability is useful for only one thing and that is to do as she did here. make them think she is somewhere she isn't. her spying was practically perfect before and this woudl be a step backwards.
I mean if she STARTED with being able to make full copies of herself and then progressed to making just say an arm or an ear, would that not make you think "OMG her spying skills will be amazing now" not the other way around.

Zoro can't cut seastone, remember the cage part in Arabasta?
Well at least then he couldn't. Now he might be able to. But this is just assuming the cage is seastone - which it clearly isn't if Brook can use his devil fruit abilities.that was before he learned to cut steel
but as of now we have not seen him cut seastone which as described is as hard as diamond. when i think on it i think of enies lobby arc. IF zoro could cut seastone why would they worry about finding a key? why not all just go to robin and have zoro cut the cuffs. Or why didn't he cut his OWN cuffs when him and usopp were chained together.
NOW, i wouldn't be surprised though if he could cut seastone. but why is the cage seastone? i imagine it isn't. if it was, wouldnt' brook be unable to do what he is doing

maybe he had preparations to make. maybe he went to kill the people on the LISTS and so on. I mean didn't he say in 3 HOURS?
he is just productive. figures why sit around like a typical boss for 3 hours doing nothing when he could be out killing human supporters

I had the same issue. There didn't seem to be an indication of him leaving the king, did there?
Even then, I still don't understand just why Hodi would taunt Luffy showing the crewmembers, to then leave them under no care whatsoever and assuming they'll just drown eventually. That's just downright stupid.

He used water to dampen the heat a bit. The lava still burned though.
I "agree" that he didn't use Haki. It's still weird how he controls water though. How does it work?
-
Whether the king was left behind or brought with him varies based on the two translations. Mangacurse states that they'll leave him behind, while Mangastream seems to imply they're bringing him. We'll need Aohige for this one.
-

He explained it a bit… But do we need a logical explanation in a manga, where people control their hair, can shoot noddles through their nose, can do canon air shots with winking and and and?
-

YOU. ARE. AN. IDIOT Jimbei.
-
He explained it a bit… But do we need a logical explanation in a manga, where people control their hair, can shoot noddles through their nose, can do canon air shots with winking and and and?
I'm walking in circles about this. Boa sisters controlling hair seems like Haki, but by that logic controlling water is also Haki. Ivankov simply has the strongest eyelids in the world. And Wanze shooting noodles from his nose is just like blowing snot from his nose.
When we see more of Luffy's special CoA usage, I think CoA could be set as controlling objects, or not.
