Joy Boy smiled when he died. That's why he's called Joy Boy.
Chapter 628: "Cleansing" Discussion
-
-
@Sonic:
Joy Boy smiled when he died. That's why he's called Joy Boy.
Or maybe he has Joy with Boys.
-
…Brook?
The exception with the power to "Revive himself"
Even if the fruit went "active" again when Brook died, it's not reincarnation is reviving. He's the same person that was before. Only thiner.
-
One more thing…where the HECK IS PAPPUG? Shouldn't he be captured too?
Obviously the guy is planning something much greater while he's free to ru-
Nah, he's probably captured with the rest of the guards. It wouldn't make sense to try and drown a starfish with those humans. Especially that he could help them get out somehow. He's pretty small, though, so he could try escaping the ropes…
-
One thing about Chopper in that color spread is he has a look of confidence on his face. Either it's afraid or angry, but looks like he will enjoy his fights a little more from hear on out.
-
Some pretty good developments in this chapter. Who's Joy boy?
-
What is there that needs to be said, fucking awesome chapter. Awesome SJ cover, awesome color spread (especially "now it cuts like a knife", awesome engrish there by Oda).
Otohime's face being stepped on and having a hole in it was quite disturbing to me. Loved the humor in the cage scene, everyone from Zoro, Usopp, to Brook made me lol. -
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Joyboy
A young European (mostly Dutch) party-animal.Usually between the ages of 16-23. Will be clearly distinguishable wearing loud Hawaiian shorts, chequered Vans sneakers, a slanted Marvel-Action-Comic-design cap and florescent Ray-Ban’s.
Often spotted boarding European Interail trains with bad hangovers, or being thrown out of cheap hostels in the early hours.
Constantly seeking out a party; unafraid to approach you as a complete stranger and enquire – “Hey, where-zu paurty?!”
Will drink and/or consume narcotics beyond the point of reason.
-
Looking at the rest of your post… that's my line.
Yeah, too agresive.
Me being a mod has nothing to do with anything.
It does, you puting out bad, or let's say "unforeshadowed" theories it's like an invitation for thousand more. "Nami is Rogue's reincarnation" "Usopp is Saul reincarnation!" "Zoro is Ryuma's reincarnation!"
Not specifically, but you're blind if you think it hasn't been at all implied with all the connections between Luffy and Roger. This concept is big in Buddhism and Hinduism, which manga typically draw from heavily.
The conection of being a "D".
I'll admit that the cultural background is different, but this and all the prophecies that are getting trown out, I don't like the development.
Nothing about reincarnation implies a person remembering their previous life. The hell?
Not saying remembering on "Oh, that's all that I did" but "Oh, that famous person was me! No wonder why I'm so cool"
My efforts are cheappened when my father already did something that I'm doing, Imagine going around the world, risking everything for a dream, and in the end saying "You were fated to get here because you already did". Avatar did it ok, because the interaction between Aang and Roku showed them as very different people, but Luffy being "Roger 2 electric boogaloo" doesn't sit well with me.
-

Hopefully he's somewhere trying to get a key for those locks. Also, he's been missing since the before the whole up-roar at the palace.
-
When I thought of "joy boy", I thought of koala. But I don't want to start that girl/boy debate again.
-
This won't be a little skirmish, but something much bigger. I can see it now, Jinbe is gonna be the final villian of this arc and Luffy's opponent.
-
That Jump cover of Luffy eating Ice Creams of his friends is really kinda disturbing.
Title page is really interesting, it shows some of the characters in actioney shots that we haven't really gotten post timeskip. Chopper seems to have quite a teenager-ey variant in there… and is Robin making a full blown copy of herself?
Hodi seems to be taking the Scar from Lion King appeoach to ruling. "I'm king now. Oh, and here's some nasty monsters to be our friends now that I've been king for 20 seconds."
Jinbe makes yet another crazy face fault. He's able to interact with the crew just fine.
And I guess Hodi really is going to be the main villain of this arc. Still not feeling it, but I guess its cause he's more sympathetic... and compartively weak, than usual. Well, there's still ancient treasures and mysteries and other things involved. And that idiot Caribou....
Usopp's Robin impresison is scary. And speaking of Robin... she seems to have finally made it to the ponyglyph. And is of course, opening up even more mysteries.
Luffy's reaction to his bounty is cute. And finally, Jinbe's "You must NOT fight with Hodi!" comes up again, and as we though.t.. its not fear of the strength, but the race issues involved.
And... Luffy vs. Jinbe? Well, I suppose we've wanted to see that since the original Arlong arc. And it'll settle the current power scale pretty officially and soundly, but I can't imagine it'll go too far, especially not when they're on a time limit. I imagine that'll only go for a page or two before Nami puts a stop to it.

Stil better then the Robbin Williams lion from Madagascar 2
"I'm the king now and I'm gonna take this remaining water for myself, not gonna do anything about this drought ,or let anyone else do anything about it. Be sure to not rebel against my one day rule, kay ?"

it's not luffy's or Jinbeit the princes fight. Since they are the ones they took up there mothers fight to get the humans and fishmen to live in harmony. Since hodie is threatening to destroy that it i should be them to fight back and bring unite to the island.
-

First of all, who peed in your coffee?
Second. that's not the case, this whole series people have been saying Luffy does things just like Roger.
That flash back with Rayleigh further illustrated that. I don't understand why that's so farfetched.
Is it underwhelming? Yes. But a farfetched or a random crockpot theory? Not in the slightest.
-
@Sonic:
That's exactly what I thought too. Gonna be epic if it's true.
Just imagine the Robin-harem doujins it would sprout (pun intended)
When I thought of "joy boy", I thought of koala. But I don't want to start that girl/boy debate again.
There is no debate to begin with. Her gender was clearly STATED in the manga.
-
Just imagine the Robin-harem doujins it would sprout (pun intended)
Goku's dub voice: I just hope my body can take it.
-
@No:
It could just be that Roger "inherited" the will from someone else, with JB being on the other end of that chain of "heirs".
What do you think reincarnation is, exactly?
I don't think this is at all the same as Chopper inheriting Hiluluk's will, for example. This is something that would have endured over the course of 900 years. Also, nobody taught Luffy to think like Roger does. He just DOES.
It does, you puting out bad, or let's say "unforeshadowed" theories it's like an invitation for thousand more. "Nami is Rogue's reincarnation" "Usopp is Saul reincarnation!" "Zoro is Ryuma's reincarnation!"
I gave my basis for the theory, you just ignored it apparently. Your other ideas are the ones that make absolutely no sense. I mean come on, Luffy shocked Rayleigh and Shanks by saying the same things Roger did. The theory has a solid basis whether you want to admit it or not.
Granted I left some stuff unsaid which is old and has been said in the past. Whitebeard's final words are pretty telling, for example.
The conection of being a "D".
The connection between Luffy and Roger is clearly more than just that. I give up on you if you can't even see that.
Not saying remembering on "Oh, that's all that I did" but "Oh, that famous person was me! No wonder why I'm so cool"
You're projecting a biased viewpoint of the execution of the idea as a reason for why it won't happen, lol. This is like all the people who argued Jinbe couldn't join before the timeskip because their bad fanfic of how it would go sucked.
My efforts are cheappened when my father already did something that I'm doing, Imagine going around the world, risking everything for a dream, and in the end saying "You were fated to get here because you already did". Luffy will clearly exceed what Roger accomplished. Fate has already been established, so learn to deal with it rather than pointlessly trying to fight it.

Ah dude…fuck you man.... I havn't finished Avatar yet...
-
What do you think reincarnation is, exactly?
I meant "will" as in a "way of life" and a certain type of "ambition".
-
Just imagine the Robin-harem doujins it would sprout (pun intended)
Just imagine Sanji´s reaction.
-
@No:

You're deflecting in order to ignore both the question and the point.
-
I feel you on your whole incarnation theory Urouge. I mean I don't necessarily believe they are incarnations because I don't think that's in the series. But we really don't know all that much about the will of the D. I take a lot from what Whitebeard said to Blackbeard. With this whole continuation of the will. Il be the first to tell you I think Luffy's got the continued will of Roger. And I also think this whole Joy Boy thing maybe the person who first had the will that began to get passed down. Who knows really. This whole will thing is very open ended at the moment.
-
I dont think luffy and Jinbe will fight or not for very long any way because luffy should be far stronger than Jinbe now
Zoro Ussop and Brook most likely got captured so easily because of what Hodi would of done to Neptune and his guards
VDD is still making his way to the Sea Forest to get Luffy remember so I reckon Jinbe will go ahead and get Hodi
-
Just imagine Sanji´s reaction.
What? Instant death?
I love Luffy's reaction to being told that he shouldn't go help his friends, instant anger. The scene with Zoro and co. was hilarious. The civilians reactions actually touched me in this chapter, altogether I loved it.
-
Aaaaw. No AK47 Morgan? I am disappoint, insane spoilers.
-
Zoro Ussop and Brook most likely got captured so easily because of what Hodi would of done to Neptune and his guards
No, they got caught because they were underwater and couldn't breathe. Zoro's was already passing out when the scene cut away.
It seems as though they caught Neptune and assumed the Strawhats for dead, but Brooke couldn't hold in that potential "Skull Joke" and let loose.

Yeah, that's fair. In no way do I think that I can prove the reincarnation idea. I just think it's a solid theory with a solid basis (not necessarily directed at you as much as to the world).
-
new colorspread is beautiful, other than Franky looking bland as fuck compared to the rest….....and i guess Oda's engrish can be considered better than Kubo's already. lol
-
I don't like reincarnation plots either. They are stale and reminds me of psycho fujoshis.
I'd rather have Luffy and Roger's relation be similar to that of Simon and Lord Genome, without the enmity and corruption of course.
Lord Genome was the previous challenger, nearly identical to Simon, but ultimately failed.
A resemblance that isn't a result of heritage or reincarnation, but simply a result of probability theory… and what some would believe to be fate.
Parallels that exist there to be drawn, but not to be connected. -

A resemblance that isn't a result of heritage or reincarnation, but simply a result of probability theory… and what some would believe to be fate.I love this, personally. It's always been my thought as well, especially with how the BB crew brings up fate. "Roger would always get angry when anyone insulted his friends… Sometimes I wish he had run...!" -Shanks & Rayleigh. Luffy's going to be the one to learn from his mistakes.
-
Yeah but they haven't been constantly Underwater they even said if Brook had played dead they could have escaped, so they obviously sorted themselves out at some point. Hodi had ahold of neptune remember after he took that pill, its unclear but I think that there was something from stopping them escaping
-

It's not the time to prove it.
But let's say that Luffy get's to Raftel and someone comes and say "Welcome Back Roger", what does it add to the plot? to the excitement? To the acomplishment?
Story repeats itself, because certain events lead to certain individuals who are needed, Racism produces monsters, Oppresion produces revolutionaries, money produces corruption, blind faith produces zealots.
I'd rather think that Romanticism, hunger for adventure and a little brain damage produces Pirate Kings.
-
After finished reading the chapter, I've never felt this much anger at Hodi before. I'm really looking forward to when Luffy fuck the living Fishman shit out of him like what he did to Crocodile, but even more brutal!
Sanji was fucking horrible as usual. "It's obvious they're trying to pick a fight with us", uhh well, DUH!
And I'm pretty sure that Robin's new power was indeed, growing a completely new body based off of herself.
Overall, a really good chapter.
-
You're deflecting in order to ignore both the question and the point.
The difference in my eyes is that it would extend to everyone with the will of D being an "heir", rather than just one guy at a time
-

Parallels that exist there to be drawn, but not to be connected. That's fair, I can definitely accept people not liking the concept from a storytelling aspect, though I still think it could work fine if it was well written.
I'm far more concerned with people saying it's baseless/impossible, which is what irks me. I was sort of curious if you'd say anything on that front or not, but based on your response I get the feeling that my logic isn't flawed in some way based on Japanese culture, or you would have mentioned it. That was my biggest concern, to be honest.
-
i'm really looking forward to when luffy fuck the living fishman shit out of him like what he did to crocodile, but even more brutal!
OH GOD what pixiv nightmares you be producin'
-
I read alittle past this post and will continue reading but I Don't want to lose my train of thought.
@SGR:
Okay, so the argument is that Luffy can't be the one to own Hodi, because then the assholes that are accepting Hodi's enslavement of the Kingdom, as well as the execution of the king and of everyone that signed the petitions will go after Luffy?
OH NO, WHAT WILL WE EVER DO.
And you guys think it would somehow be different if Jinbe was the one to kill Hodi? The guys from fishman island would just ignore what happened because it was a fishman to destroy the other?
I think it will be the Oldest Prince who fights Hodi, Fukaboshi. You still have to worry about Caribou and Luffy is the only person in the crew that definetly has haki (its possible that another crew member could have it but it has yet to be stated and so is just heresay for now).
There is also the possibility that another, more powerful, enemy has yet to appear.I just hope that if there is someone behind Hodi that the person isn't human… I think that would really ruin the point of the story.
-
I'm really looking forward to when Luffy fuck the living Fishman shit out of him like what he did to Crocodile, but even more brutal!
That's what she (or he) said
-

I'd rather think that Romanticism, hunger for adventure and a little brain damage produces Pirate Kings.
I'm not suggesting that anything like that would happen. Even if it did, Luffy would be picking his nose and comically not caring about it at all.
The difference in my eyes is that it would extend to everyone with the will of D being an "heir", rather than just one guy at a time
The idea would be that the D's are the descendents, but like any group/race/etc they don't all act the same. Each individual "spirit" could still be passed on.
-
You're deflecting in order to ignore both the question and the point.
I was just responding to the first part to clarify what I meant.
And I think it technicaly isn't the same thing as I mean.
And I realy don't want to discus something so minor for so long.
-
Is the clone of Robin wearing any clothes? If Nami isn't the one to stop the scuffle between Luffy and whale shark then maybe Princess cute but huge will start crying and summon a few sea kings.
-
I think it's just a dramatic shot more then anything :P
-
Sanji was fucking horrible as usual. "It's obvious they're trying to pick a fight with us"
He did say it was "obvious" in his defense. Sanji's not one to overreact unless a woman's involved.
Sanji has been annoying recently. Oda's really trying to bring out his "duck" personality.
It's actually a good thing, because that whole "I'm so cool" act gets stale.
And he's not fully to blame, he's just reacting how he thinks a friend should act to most of the situation.
He was expecting Nami to be more angry over what Jinbe said, which is understandable.
It's like if someone made fun of something you know your friend is sensitive about, so you stick up for them, only to find out your friend has changed their stance on the issue at hand.
Also, there's some dramatic Irony here, Sanji doesn't know Jinbe was a good guy, but the audience does.
This all makes Sanji come off as a douche to the reader.
Side Note: I miss the "Mellorine" and "Happiness" quirk.

@No:
And I realy don't want to discus something so minor for so long.
Minor? Robin's comments on her one page are arguably the most important plot point of the entire chapter, whether I'm right or not. :getlost:
-
I suppose that cold be right, but I feel like we still don't know what the will of D really entails. I feel like a lot of the individual differences can also be attributed to environmental factors. Ace was depressed because the fact Roger was his father had gotten him to think he didn't deserve to exist, not because he inherited the spirit of a depressed guy. The will is only one part of the equation when it comes to the personality.
-
Minor? Robin's comments on her one page are arguably the most important plot point of the entire chapter, whether I'm right or not. :getlost:
I meant if we know so little.
Haven't we basicly covered every convievable meaning of that bit of information yet ?
-
Probably not, no.
-
