It's probably something as mundane as a guard doing it as a prank.

@Thousand:
Online hacking is peanuts compared to breaking into a bank.
Anonymous hackers could hack into the pentagon if they wanted with software they could buy online.
Shooting John Lennon in the back is infinitely easy compared to breaking into a bank.
Next you'll be telling me it's easy for a random dude to plant a bomb under the president's pillow if he studies enough.
What the hell.
We're expected to believe some random dude got past a ton of highly-sensitive security, opened an impenetrable vault guarded by the most advanced of computer codes and did this all without being detected.
when did the story say any of those things.
-
Your worries are infundated and stupid. The authors are finaly making an effort to develop Mashiro and Akagi again and you complain about how unrealistic is to break into a bank.
Not counting the posibility of it being an inside job (Bank expert, security expert working in the bank). Or a trick (the note was already there, used fake triggers to hack the bank and make it so he was in there). Or an adult fan (A true thief).
The Caith shelter is a plot thread closing, while the bank issue is a thread opening. Obata's issues are with the characters getting stale and underwelming replacements, not unexplained things. It would be like not beliving in oda because an important character seems flat.

Not counting the posibility of it being an inside job (Bank expert, security expert working in the bank).
SO the fanboy is an insider huh? That's just make things even more convoluted for an unnecessary and terrible plot twist. Made more unrealistic by the fact that a security expert would'd know exactly the consequences of what his actions would mean and wouldn't risk his job and freedom over a dumb children's comic book.
Or a trick (the note was already there, used fake triggers to hack the bank and make it so he was in there). Or an adult fan (A true thief).
You have no idea what breaking into a bank entails. Hint: It takes a lot more than being an adult.
The Caith shelter is a plot thread closing, while the bank issue is a thread opening.
And both equally stupid which was the point.
Obata's issues are with the characters getting stale and underwelming replacements, not unexplained things.
He also needs to write reasonable things that don't make you hit your face in the desk.
It would be like not beliving in oda because an important character seems flat.
This comparison makes no sense at all. Lousy characterization with a bad plot twist. Apples and oranges. What are you even trying to say?

What the hell.
Could you please not quote me out of context especially when you're cutting and pasting quotes from different parts of my posts?

I'm sure banks don't have security systems in the Bakuman universe and/or the dude magically teleported.

Curious to see where this goes, withholding judgement. On both this chapter, and this discussion.
Disagree on this being a jump the shark moment, greatly, greatly disagree on this being as bad as the Cait Shelter fiasco, I think that's some hyperbole far greater than ought to be used here.
In real life, there are bank robbers. And it's not at all impossible for such a person to also, in addition to being a clever criminal, also be a fan of a manga he identifies with.
I do not at all see the issue here, at least not yet. Let's see where this plot thread goes before we whip out the tar and feathers.

@Thousand:
My problem isn't that that lame ass excuse is being justified. There were a far number of more sensible and reasonable methods to do that that I would have been fine with. Some fan always pulling PCP pranks causing a school fight, kids sneaking into school all the time getting on the nerves of the education board, some rich snob with a grudge (hey dogboy's mom would have been good) forming an army of soccer moms, ANY of these would have been believable and acceptable though a bit far-fetched but better than some fanboy breaking into a bank!!!
Do you know what a bank is? Do you think it's one sleepy old guard that has to look the other way to get past and you can take and leave whatever you want? My University has a tiny bank that really has no place being there being far away from any real customers and is really just there to serve students and faculty. To get in, there are two bullet-proof double-glazed glass doors where only one door can be open at a time and to get by them, you're buzzed in by an experienced, armed(a real gun, he showed it to me once) guard. And that's JUST the entrance. And this is just one small bank in a country with a GDP smaller than most major companies let alone Japan with money up its wazoo. Banks have a huge payload to anyone who can get inside and that's why they're so freakin' tough to break into. Fuck what Hollywood tries to shove down your throats. It takes a lot of time researching blueprints, scoping the place out, planning entry and exit points, getting the proper tools, devising SOME way to get past all the security (the really, really, really good security) and most of all, you need to be in a TEAM with individual skills specialised in hacking security codes, safe-cracking etc. It is NOT something some ONE random fanboy can just get up and imitate on the fly with resolve based on misguided admiration. Especially given the consequences. Whether you take anything or not, breaking into a bank is serious shit that can give you DECADES in prison. Which is why only the most cunning, resolved and ruthless deviants can try let alone pull it off.
"But who cares, it's not important to the story, bla bla"
I'm sorry but for a series that supposedly prides itself in being a realistic depiction it does matter and this is just TOO much to swallow. There were a number of subtler, more reasonable ways to give PCP a problem with it being published but THIS was not one of them. There's suspending your belief and there's just plain stupid.
I've never seen someone jump over a shark so high before.
You just need to work in the bank, voila!
-
@Thousand:
Could you please not quote me out of context especially when you're cutting and pasting quotes from different parts of my posts?
They were all in the context of being horrible statements. Shooting John Lennon? Hacking the pentagon? Bombing the president? Really?
I'm sure banks don't have security systems in the Bakuman universe and/or the dude magically teleported.
It's awesome that apparently your local bank is Fort Knox, with real guns and the mission impossible laser grid and everything, but not every bank is as high tech or as secure as the thing YOU ARE MAKING UP THAT THE MANGA DIDN'T STATE AT ALL.
You're creating fanfic, and making assumptions, and blaming the manga for your fanfic.
-
You just need to work in the bank, voila!
Guess what, it takes two people to open a vault.
7 The lock for a modern bank vault is usually a dual-control combination lock, meaning it takes two people to open it. This lock is connected to a time lock that can be set so the combination lock will not open until the pre-set number of hours has passed. This is still the "theftproof" lock system that Sargent invented in the late nineteenth century. Such locks are manufactured by only a few companies worldwide. The locking system is supplied already assembled to the vault manufacturer.
In fact
http://www.madehow.com/Volume-7/Bank-Vault.htmlHere guys, educate yourselves. And this is just the vault. I know I seem picky but when you know EXACTLY how insane and unreal what Obata is proposing, you could see where I'm coming from. Nakane winning a 100m race is more believable.
-

It's manga.
Despite everything you might say, bank robbers exist in the real world,
Thus, it's not unrealistic for bank robbers to exist in manga.
Nor is it unrealistic to expect that a bank robber may read manga.
You are flying a bit off the handle at this.
-
It'd be one thing if a gang decided to rob a bank and leave a note in the vault just because of the manga. But one person SPECIFICALLY broke into a vault JUST to leave a note. That ain't believable. Hell why couldn't Obata have done the former. That would have been cool actually and would have given the same problems with the same premise and be more reasonable.
-
How do you know it was one person? How do you know all the security details?
Where are you getting all these facts that weren't actually in the manga?
-
@Thousand:
SO the fanboy is an insider huh? That's just make things even more convoluted for an unnecessary and terrible plot twist. So a children did it?
@Thousand:
You have no idea what breaking into a bank entails. Hint: It takes a lot more than being an adult.
I have an idea of how hard it is IN THE REAL WORLD. If you are a bank security expert by all means, explain how it's done. Or wait for 2 or 3 chapers where the authors themselves explain.
@Thousand:
And both equally stupid which was the point.
An stupid plot opening leaves chance for a satisfactory end. An stupid plot close is just stupid and badly written.

All other desk are face-free.

So you actually think a bank is just an old sleepy dude? Even the link I pasted in this post indicates that it's anything but with the gravity of the situation.
@RobbyBevard:
Where are you getting all these facts that weren't actually in the manga?
The manga and common sense.
-
Forgot to add, who said that it was only one person?
-
It said "unknown person".
Clearly we can extrapolate from that it means a single 8 year old who was trained by a criminal mastermind who has 4 years of experience cracking safes and no finger prints, and that he pulled off the non heist in 3 minutes at 2:37 am.
-
I have to agree 100% with TLS here, he has most valid point about Bank security and its so damn retarded to think that guys who would want to be 'cool' and brake in to bank and leave a friggin note? First of all guys who get inspired by some manga and want to look cool by breaking in banks most likely dont have wits to do it in begin with.
Secondly its completely unrealistic that if you go through all the trouble to get into bank vaul you dont even TAKE ANY MONEY but just leave some lame note? ''I WAZ HERE!'' seriosly this was such a poor asspull story line twist by authors. But I guess Bakuman universe banks dont have any security but are more like just as easily breached as public restrooms…
Well I like drama situations in Bakuman and most likely when they are brainstorming new idea for manga but some of these story twists are so goddamn forced and most amusing in this that some 'fanboys' swallow these things without even chugging...
-
You guys think the breaking in and out of a bank in a shonen manga is too much? What the hell? Do you read any of the other series? It's not a genre of realism!
Anyway, this chapter was mildly interesting yet boring to me until that twist which woke me up. I liked it just fine, and it got me interested and thinking which is the most important thing. I sort of hope it was Nanamine who did it as his next scheme.
Edit:
Also, Oda's mention got a smile out of me. -
@Thousand:
So you actually think a bank is just an old sleepy dude?
Again you're making up fanfic and making assumptions. I never said anything to that effect.
And yes, some banks are lower tech than others. Not THAT low tech, but not with hyper security code electronics and automatic shotguns or whatever they hell you were going on about.
I have to agree 100% with TLS here, he has most valid point about Bank security and its so damn retarded to think that guys who would want to be 'cool' and brake in to bank and leave a friggin note?
Like some guys would hack Sony just to protest their lawsuit and not actually use the 70 million credit card numbers they have access to.

Loved the chapter. Maybe it's good that Takagi didn't go to the reunion, haha.
But about the bank;
SO WHAT?
"Oh no, someone broke into a bank, wow Ohba, that's such an asspull, stop trying to make the story interesting. It's so unrealistic for SOMEONE TO BREAK INTO A BANK."
Really? REALLY?
Thousand Lion, you're just assuming. We have absolutely no idea whether it was just one person, or 10.
We have no idea whether or not the bank is from Mission Impossible, as you're implying.
And why can't someone do that, just to leave a note?
That's like the ultimate troll. It's certainly got a reaction, y'know? Just wait it out. I'm sure Ohba will give a proper explanation (and Obata will draw it.) -
A bank in the town over from me was robbed last week. The bank across the street from my bank was robbed a few months ago.
It happens.
-
If the bank robber really did like PCP, he'd be doing it with other people.
Its not a party if you're alone.
-
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
-
She probably will be, to add more drama to the effect of PCP's 'cancellation'.
Mashiro is already wishing he could be something else, to experience youth - yes, Takagi lifted his spirits but I'm sure the thoughts still there.
-
@Thousand:
This chapter was pretty good for the most part. Nice little gleam at the sacrifices one must make for his art.
However, the final plot twist at the end was BULLSHIT.
Sorry but my suspension of disbelief can only go so far even if it was hinted at in the beginning. So TV stations were worried that people might copy the manga and break into high security banks for no reason? UGH, yeah right. Something trivial or semi-serious at a school I would have believed but this!?! What a subtle way to justify that lame excuse guys!!!
I actually agree with you, all in all I liked this chapter, and I'm also glad that the series will now (hopefully) get out of its limbo, but some guy breaking into a bank because he read PCP? Yeah, tough to swallow, and I hope they don't actually introduce the guy, because I would prefer they don't elaborate on it, because bank heists are not what I think of when I think Bakuman. That was my only real gripe with the chapter though.
Edit:@Robby, that's not what I thought when I first read the chapter, but I believed you after hearing your reasoning. Sounds interesting.
Okay, two things.
1. Mashiro mentioned meeting Oda, it's a pity we couldn't actually see that, because that would be cool.
2. I'm with Silence, Bakuman has not jumped the shark, this was contrived IMO but it's not a series ruining moment for me. It certainly was not as bad as the Cait Shelter thing. I'd have to say we're going to have to wait and see what O+O do with this. Who knows maybe they could make the bank heist sensible, these are the creators of Death Note after all.Edit 2: Okay having now read every one of the posts, I have one final thing to say. The argument against TLS and Shandian is that "it's Shonen it's not supposed to be realistic". This is true, of Shonen battle manga, supernatural series and to some extent sports manga but it shouldn't be true of Bakuman. Yeah, Bakuman had a few unrealistic moments here and there (as any good fiction does, because let's face it realism can be very boring when done wrong but that's a whole nother rant), but Bakuman was generally as realistic as Shonen can get. So having a bank heist feels rather jarring. Look you can generally throw in the "well it's Shonen" or "well it's comic books" but for a series like Bakuman it doesn't fly nearly as well.
-
I know what this chap was going for but it kinda sucked for me. That last page cliff hanger was meh cuz the way I think it has potential is most likely not going to pan out that way.
-
@RobbyBevard:
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
I certainly thought so.
-
@RobbyBevard:
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
yes, she was flustered enough.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if that does turn out to be the case, though since these characters aren't really any older than I am at the moment, it's a little tough to wrap my head around the concept.
-

There are girls in this country who become country at age 16 (or younger), 20's isn't that hard to believe.
-
@Kareem:
There are girls in this country who become country at age 16 (or younger), 20's isn't that hard to believe.
Yeah, but those who do that at 16 are usually frowned upon.
Wait–what country are we talking about? -
So I'm thinking Nanamine is behind the bank heist. A scheme to make Ashirogi have to start over so he can compete against them on even ground. He's also the only character in the entire manga to this point that I can think of with the brains and balls to pull it off.
@RobbyBevard:
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
I think you're probably right. Either that or it's really serious, which I doubt.
-
@RobbyBevard:

what a tweeeeeeest

Good chapter. I actually did kind of relate to Mashiro in this chapter about feeling left out and having lost his youth. Not because I'm invovled in an artistic medium or anything, but because I don't really have a social life and I've never really gone out skiing or vacationing or anything fun like that. Not because I don't have free time, but because I don't have the money (and I don't really know anyone). So yeah, not exactly the same thing, but hey, as a guy that works in retail I pretty much always work weekends.
Oh, and the bank heist. Yeah, I don't really have a problem with it. As it's been said, people do stupid shit that makes the news all the time. And just because someone may be booksmart or have the wits to rob a bank doesn't mean they have an ounce of common sense. Really, this could be a story for Japanese Nash.
"What the FUCK is wrong with you?!"
@RobbyBevard:
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
Well, I did read this statement before reading the chapter, so I could be biased, but yeah, it seems like that could be the case. And it'll put more pressure on Takagi (and Mashiro I guess) when PCP gets cancelled and they have to come up with a new series.
-
I was going to comment on how fucking stupid TLS's arguments were but I'm glad to see in my 7 hour abscence you guys have done it for me. Thanks.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Kaya might be preggers though. I guess it'll become more evident next chapter.
-
Caught up. This series is really fun to read after staying behind for 4 chaps. Nakia and Himamaru was an unlikely and unpredictable pair, but they relate. One is out to be the most likable character, and one is out to be the most hated character(though I feel as though the author tends to force it a bit… on both ends). But both are really talented, so the combination is scary. Tough luck Mishiro and Fukuda. Atleast Nakia didn't end up in jail... I still like the dude dispite his forced and recent shenanigans.
Namanine is still my favorite dude. From beginning to end he's been a fun character despite his methods and desperate plans. I'm really glad his editor grew some balls and made his author suck it. Take that in any context you wish :)
As for the recent chapter, good. I see the author is going into the Death Note route and using the media in a fucked up way to place PCP in a tight spot. And Kaya being pregnant? It would not surprise me if it's true. With the amount of work Tageki goes through every day... nevermind. I'll get my mind out of the gutter :D
-
@Maes:
This must be Nanamine's new method to beat PCP.
That made me laugh so much, thank you.
Edit:
Also, Oda's mention got a smile out of me.Same. XD I really hope they'll draw him in the manga someday.
If the bank robber really did like PCP, he'd be doing it with other people.
Its not a party if you're alone.
/\ That.
Namanine is still my favorite dude. From beginning to end he's been a fun character despite his methods and desperate plans. I'm really glad his editor grew some balls and made his author suck it. Take that in any context you wish :)
Nanamine's also one of my favorite characters, I really think he's a good one… and about the suck it up thing, I can already imagine yaois being made around that. :ninja:
@RobbyBevard:
So. Anyone else think Kaya is pregnant? Or is that just me.
Seems like it but I'd hope not because all the ways I can imagine it to lead are just tiresome.
-
I don't really get the love for Nanamine, not saying he's a terrible character, he served his purpose well, but there are several Bakuman characters I like more. Most notably Nizuma Eiji and Hiramaru.
Edit: Hey guys I have a question, what was the chapter where Hattori told Mashiro and Takagi the recipe for an appealing battle manga, I'm searching for it right now, and I know it was fairly early into the series but I'd like to know.
-
I haven't ever seen them before, but Bakuman's shonen jump covers are really great!
[hide]
That shonen jump has the main characters of ashirogi muto's mangas[/hide]
-
I saw the first and last ones before, they're pretty cool. My favorite is the first one with PCP hologram-like.
-
In the WSJ TOC thread, with the picture of all the covers from last year that you posted, I really like the one in the top row that shows a drawing faceoff of Eiji and Mashiro.
-
I didn't found that one alone, so I couldn't post it here.
-
Fun chapter. I loved the Ashita no Joe reference: Burning into a White Ash! An interesting reflection on the lives of our characters.
Yeah, Kaya definitely seems like she is pregnant. Sickness, doctor, eating extra good, talk of a family earlier, etc.
With regards to the bank robbery argument earlier, it's a shonen! I think it's an interesting development that will hopefully get our main characters out of their current comfort zone. Of course, arguing with someone who calls you out for "playing the evidence card" is always an interesting experience.

Good to see the series back on Mashiro after he sat there on the sidelines or 20 or so chapters.
-
Is that Eiji as Ryuk? Haha xD
-
the next chapter may turn out like this show.
The police should at your door to see you Saiko.
-
Liked the chapter, finally some focus on Mashiro again.
Also like the idea of being pregnant, could give Shujin some extra pressure.The bank heist was kinda unexpected and I don't know what to think about that.
The possibility is high that the manga gets a cancellation or at least will never turn in an anime because of this, since the editors were afraid before that people would act like the PCP characters.
So it slowly leading to a dead end for the manga. On the one hand it is popular but on the other hand the chance of getting a TV series is low and therefore the chance of fullfilling Ashirogi Muto's dream. -
enjoy the chapter, agree that this is the best in a while
-
Well, it was obviously an adult reading PCP, and adults ain't made for Shounen Jump! So there are no laws.
