Something tells me that Oda named him Gaimon just to set up for that joke.
Chapter 620: "The Theme Park We Dreamed Of" Discussion
-
-
Well, well. Isn't it awesome to see some old faces? I can't remember his name but really glad the he has found a lady.
Other than that, I want this flashback to be as good as the Norland's and Karakura's story. Although it's a dream for me… I have never felt like when i was reading those two. Whatever...
This chapter made me think Luffy might destroy Fishman Island intentionally. Since he is going to want fishman to live 'free.' That way Jinbe wouldn't be the next nakama too. Because if it doesn't go as i say and Jinbe wouldn't lead the fishmen and mermen, Sanji's seriousness out of nowhere and threatening sayings can be easily seen as a hint Strawhat Pirates growing emotional bonds with Jinbe. Since Luffy is Ace's brother and Jinbe probably is going to be in debt with Nami...
About Jinbe letting loose Arlong.
There are something really wrong about him being a Shichibukai. The more i read about him and fishmen's story, the more i think he was forced to become one. 'In order to become Shichibukai' thing probably a misunderstood situation. It probably happened like Fisher Tiger died and others got captured. Because Jinbe was powerful, in order to let his brethern live he agreed to become a Shichibukai aka Government's Dog.My mind made up like this.
-
@Cyan:
Something tells me that Oda named him Gaimon just to set up for that joke.
That would be so SWEET.
-
Barring Hyozou, who I think might be a bit more important later, I wonder if the Three Princes will deal with all the Lieutenants.
And this flashback? Yeah, this is going to be incredible.
-
Gaimon .
-
@Cyan:
Something tells me that Oda named him Gaimon just to set up for that joke.
It would only be further proof of his genius.
-
-
Good chapter. Gaimon has a bigger afro, which attracted Sarfunkel.
Nami's gotten quite calm. She didn't even get angry at Sanji..
Hyouzou was drawn a bit weird in his close-up.
damn, this chapter is deep. especially the one that arlong has some sort of "dream". And sabaody park?? never see it coming. Flashback… i'm guessing it ends with fisher tigers death. And the one who kills him probably the younkou kaidou.
It'll go past his death. We have to see Jinbei sending Arlong to the East Blue.
-
Wow!! Great chapter! Really enjoyed it! Sanji is finally serious again and lol at Luffy drinking Nami's tea and Sanji not noticing :P. I hope we'll see a lot of Boa in this flashback…
Probably not - the Boa sisters were saved by Tiger before he founded the Sunny Pirates.
-
@No:
Waita second.
Is that Macro, behind Jimbei ?
Yes. And the other two. http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v51/c492/7.html
-
Younger Jimbei looked a lot cooler.
Now, the longest-brewing-ever epic flashback that we have been waiting for so long finally begins! Next weeks will be amazing!
-
The more we see Arlong, the more chance he will return…
It'll be pathetic of him if he can't even break out of prison on East Blue... -
I can kinda see Tansui….oh there's Gyaro in the back.
Realy hard to see with the white line around Chew.
-
The cover story with Gaimon is cute. Was wondering if we'd ever see him again.
-
So, finally read the full chapter.
It was just… incredible... One of the best chapters for this arc IMO.I'm so excited for this flashback!
-
The flashback will be interrupted next chapter by Sanji getting another nosebleed. :ninja:
-
Words cannot describe the excitement I have for this flashback. And Jimbei with a full head of hair, awesome…
-
Pandaman! On page 5! First panel! Where Hyozu is! Raising his arms!
-
what an amazing chapter….
somehow, the dream of fishmans' kids to be part of human world makes me thrilled and excited about how it's going to be related with the prophesy Luffy going to destroy Fishman Island, possibly Luffy would do that in the end to give courage to fishmans that they could live in human world (unlike what most common fishmans think they couldn't live in human world as quoted in their conversation in the chapter). What if together with destroying Fishman Island, at the same time Luffy declares to the world that Fishmans are his dear friends, so whoever dares attacking or insulting them and not welcoming them in the human world would have to face Strawhat pirates' wrath......it would even more bad ass than Whitebeard's statement about protecting Fishman Island
-
nice chapter
1. Gaimon has a lady friend!!! Like the reference too
2. glad to find out the true meaning behind the naming of Arlong Park
3. nice to see young Jimbei and Arlong, and of course Fisher Tiger -
Wow! What a chapter! Some serious stuff being shown at the beginning the stepping on the image that is.
Sanji dancing in with the tea is epic. I am interested in seeing what happened that caused the rift in the Sunny pirates. -
Finally I have a reason to actually hate the New Fishman Pirates with that stepping on the face of your former dead queen. This chapter was full of tension. I love it.
-
And there I was thinking Sarfunkel was an odd name. ROFL!
Arlong Park, Saboady Park… I did not see that coming.
Can't stop rereading this chapter... Each time I read it I keep finding something new...
-
I hope we'll see a lot of Boa in this flashback…
We already did see her.
In the Red Circle, That's Hancock & her sisters fleeing Mariejois. You can tell by Sandersonia's head.
-
What does Zeo mean on page 6 "Look proof that humans are cruel and brutal beings"?
Does he have human blood? Is the guy he is strangling the one he is calling proof? confusing unless it's a mistranslation.
-
To the people saying that destroying the only place in the sea where they can live is a good thing.
Seriously? Sending people to where they hate them with nothing to go back to. Of all stupid theories…
-
Incredible chapter. Arlong Park, Saboady Park. Subtle flashbacks. Gaimon and Sarfunkel is just hilarious
-
who is the fishman all the way on the back of the last page?? everyone else I can account for but idk about him.
I mean the one right next to macro.
Also, LOL @ Kuroobi's fro!

But the second part is kind of off the edge. Even Yonkous weren't able to do that. But maybe he can free them from Fishman Island. Because underwater they are like prisoners and push-overs. But him destroying the Fisman Island is just too big. It's our theory though.

I don' t think so.. fishman just need to behave well and assure themselves they could live side by side with human, and act in good manner towards human to gain their trust….If average human want to fight, human would lose because fishmans are born with more physical power than most humans. So fishmans just could defend themselves from people trying to hurt them but not retaliating....by doing so, finally fishman would become human's true friend.
Or possibly Luffy could just send the message to the his old friends and thus sending Fishmans to go there first like Arabasta, Chopper's homeland, Water Seven, East Blue.
-
Fukaboshi pwned Dosun, let's see if he can be the Viper of this arc and actually go on to defeat 1-2 named enemies by himself, or he will be taken out by a ES'd Dosun.
Finally get to see Caribou again, now we know ugly is after the princess.
So Arlong had a soft side, a dream, well, maybe only subconsciously, still, I don't mind the revelation.
lol@Luffy barely remember the name Fisher Tiger.
Fisher Tiger looks awesome; Arlong looked better 15 years ago; Jimbei looked MUCH better 15 years ago.
The upcoming flashback should be good, can't wait.
Only complain about this chapter? Sanji. While some might see it as redemption to certain degree, I found it pathetic the man who almost died by looking at boobs, twice, right before this chapter, is now trying to act up and talk sh1t to Jimbei the man to whom their captain owes his life in more than one way.
-
Awwwww, Gaimon found himself a little girlfriend. How sweet! I didn
t get the name joke, until I got here and saw the two names next to each other. And Oda didn
t forget about Johnny and Yosaku  We`ll see them soon.Damn, Oda is such a masterfull storyteller for linking Arlong Park to Shabaody Park. How did nobody make that connection yet? And I
m so glad that Oda again shows some of Namis backstory here. This issues need to be adressed, both for the story and for Namis character progression. Loved Jimbei
s reaction, too. He couldn`t have known that one of the Strawhat Pirates had such a personal connection and suffered so much under Arlong. And I don`t think Luffy has forgotten about Hancocks story, he is just really bad with names. I liked both Namis and Sanjis reactions, Nami staying calm and serious and Sanji threatening Jimbei.
This flashback will be one of the best in the story. I can`t wait. Is there gonna be a chapter enxt week? I heard something about a Shonen Jump break.

A regular fishman says that he can't go off the Island because if he were to go to Human's World they would kill him because he is a fishmen. So he points out this as humans' cruelty.
-
AH much clear thanks.
"As soon as anyone comes into power they turn cold and fearsome..even within the heart of the pillars of government that decided fishmen and human would be friends…".
Does anyone think Jimbei is talking about somebody specific in the Gorousei here or am I misinterpreting things again.

Best part of the entire chapter. And a top ranker in the series overall.
I also liked the little nudge about how the elite part of town is called Gyoverly hills.
-
Thanks for the chapter.
This is the first really good, non-rushed chapter in a long time…and well worth the wait of revelation. From all the Fishmen trying to bring trouble back to the revelation of the Sun Pirates (and grumpy old Arlong) definately shows we're going to get an epic flashback we've been waiting a long time for.
-
Great chapter!!! the flashback would be great!!prince fukaboshi look really strong!!!!and luffy is always absend-minded…
What if together with destroying Fishman Island, at the same time Luffy declares to the world that Fishmans are his dear friends, so whoever dares attacking or insulting them and not welcoming them in the human world would have to face Strawhat pirates' wrath…...it would even more bad ass than Whitebeard's statement about protecting Fishman Island
that look so crazy..
-
This chapter was mindblowing from the coverstory to the last panel:
- Gaimon and Sarfunkel were great even before I got the reference.
- Sanji's balance is just incredible. He's getting his badass going again.
- Park = Park ? Whoooooooaaa!
- Finally Sun pirates looks: Young Jimbei looks awesome, Arlongs got a sweet hat, and inhale KUROOBI'S GOT AN AFRO!!! BLOWN
-
Wonder who finaly brought the sun pirates down down. I would welcome a bit of flashback Sengoku right about now.
-
Or Kong :O .
-
Woah young Jinbee looks very cool
-

I'm sure that has worked in the real world!
Oda isn't going to make THIS particular issue a fairy tale that the people of the world is going to recive the fishmen with their arms open.
And what about the mermaids? where are they going to live? The only other place that has bubles like those is.. shabody.
-
@No:
Or Kong :O .
Now there is a thought. King kong deals with the aquatic tiger
-
So, what time it is, children?
It's Flashback Time, y'all!
[MegaUpload]One Piece Chapter 620[MangaStream]
@Myu:
Other than that, I want this flashback to be as good as the Norland's and Karakura's story.
Norland's friend was named Kalgara, not Karakura.
The unexpected damn moment for me: Page 10, last panel.
That Jimbei reaction shot is veeeeerrrrryyyyy telling.
When you see a shichibukai make a face like that, it has got to tell you something alright.
-
Best chapter in a couple of months, really. Finally we've gotten beyond exposition of this arc into the meat of it.
I love it that Oda's humanizing Arlong without necessarily justifying the extremes he went to to get back at those who repressed him in his youth. We also have the two conflicting reform movements: do you fight violently against repression, revenging the atrocities committed against your people with similarly heinous acts? Or do you submit to authority, protest nonviolently, and try to reform from within the current abusive power dynamic. Considering all that's going on in the Mideast these days, this theme is tremendously topical…. but as a universal social dynamic, maybe any time period could offer examples of this dichotomy.
The NFP are getting fleshed out too, despite their limited screen time. By choosing the late queen as their scapegoat, they blame the "uncle toms" within their culture for preaching reconciliation. By turning on their own, they show they harming the human "enemy" is more important than improving the welfare of their people. Sadly, this makes most people easily stereotype them as "terrorists" or the like, and assume that they are inherently evil, while dismissing the societal factors that led to that build up of rage and anomie.
I'm truly hoping fisher tiger gets fleshed out as a complex character. Does he fight to free slaves out of moral indignity? revenge? sympathy for their plight? Or is it more a luffy level "i won't stand by to see dreams destroyed" kind of thing? I'm looking forward to the fights he gets into with the Queen. It'd be like being a fly on the wall in a confrontation between Malcolm X and MLK.
Best panel of the chapter goes to Luffy sipping tea on page 14. I love that face that he gets when he is deciding his moral stance on a complicated issue. It must be the anticipation, because once he is decided, he ends up doing ridiculous things in what then seems a sudden and unplanned manner. That same empty expression presaged everything from picking fights with god to declaring war on the World Government. I suppose I envy his conviction while admiring the subtlety of his process.
Hmmm... new AP theme I'd better update the avatar....
-
I saw CHuuuuu and the Guy that Sanji fought, LOL he had an afro! LOL
-
Just noticed that Fisher has a huge beard, but his upper lip is about as hair covered as a 13 year old boys would be.
Not cool man, that mustasch looks way to mexican.
-

If what I said would really happen, I would not expect all humans would give their arms open. I am more into the Queen Otohime's ideals, enduring for awhile from any attacks and insults to change the future. Seeing how a lot of regular fishmans really respect queen otohime, I think it might work. Mermaids I think don't need bubble if living in human world, like how caimie first introduced with Pappag in outside world without bubble
-

I think you just hit on how this entire Arc is going to end. If Fishman Island is indeed going to be destroyed Shabody will be where everyone goes to live. The Park will no longer be off limits to mermaids and fishmen. Sabody is a special place for the Strawhats after all the island of restarting. If Luffy is going to claim an island for his own it might just be that one.

Seeing three women run away in the left down corner of the fisher tiger picture ^^ who might that be.
