Officials at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant will release "slightly radioactive vapour" to ease pressure in one of the reactors.
9.0 earthquake hits Japan

The Earthquake shifted the Earth's axis by 10 Inches.

The Earthquake shifted the Earth's axis by 10 Inches.
Has….has that sort of thing happened before?
-
The last time this happened was during the Chilean earthquake in 2010, so yes it happens frequently. But 10 inches is still quite a big shift to consider.

Man, I don't know what to say. I hope they can take things under control.
May I please ask where do you follow the news from? I was waiting for updates on nuclear power plant. The Earthquake shifted the Earth's axis by 10 Inches.
Has….has that sort of thing happened before?
Wow. Same thing was reported for 2010 Chilean and 2004 Sumatra earthquakes. It's kinda scary.
-
Yeah, I've seen that phrase so many times today; I try to avoid it cus after a while it comes off as apathetic.
Yeah. I wanted to let it be known that I care about the issue, but I don't know how to put how I feel in words really…
-

Okay. Granted, that's not good, but it doesn't scare me as badly.

Okay, weabooness aside, that seriously sucks.
I don't care if it represents a dorky side of a country. A large amount of people took a large amount of time and love in that creation, and now it's destroyed.
That's depressing. Not as depressing as hundreds dying of course, but still depressing.

Sorry for bringing this up but it's still news:
Anime/Manga/Game Industry Members Check In After Quake • Creators, singers, translators, others report via social networking sites http://4NN.cx/58534 -
Oh shit this is terrible, does anyone know if there's anyway for us in the united states to help, I'd definitely be willing to give blood or money
I hope it turns out okay for Japan, I don't believe in religion really but I'll pray for Japan
-
The symbolism here is quite…distressing.
-
/in before weeaboos comparing this to 9/11Real talk, that kinda sucks and pretty "NOOOOO!!!" worthy.

Ten inch axis shift? Didn't that happen after the tsunami in 2004?

There is Red Cross donations so far but I don't know if more donation ways may come up in the following days:

Technically it's not a big deal but still…there's something terribly depressing and demoralizing about it.

Apparently, these are no after-shocks but 2 new major earthquakes with different epi centers, one in Nagano (northwestern part of Honshu) and one in eastern Japan (around Ibaraki Prefecture). Because of that, there is also a Tsunami warning for every coastal region in Japan.
Can't believe this is still ongoing…
-
I gave 20 bucks to the Red Cross towards the relief in Japan. Also heard from my cousin stationed in Okinawa, who's freaking out because a close friend lives around Sendai with his wife and daughter. Hopefully they are all right.
-
Okay. Granted, that's not good, but it doesn't scare me as badly.
Yeah, it's not that big a deal. Axis shifts can affect the climate but this is far from serious. But it's certainly one of the bigger shifts in recent years so it's intriguing.
I'm more worried about the nuclear power plant if the pressure's really that bad. We're talking about radioactive gases after all, but I'm sure they'll manage as long as they can reinstate neutron capture and cool down the fuel in the meantime. I wonder if they were able to fix the last standby generator.

It does thank you! I'm going to give as much as I can
hows are the people doing, how many are hurt…. or dead, do we know anyone who's been hurt.... and although it seems like a douche thing to ask is Oda hurt? what are they doing to evacuate people, I have no idea what's going on I literally just woke up and everyone's in a panic at my dorm

So you are affected by those jokes?
I find them hilarious.
Why? Easy on bad times, it's better to laugh. And besides, I bet most of you don't go arround suffering about whats going on.
Most of the people go like oh shit, look at whats going on for 10 minutes and then they go to something else. It's the shock of something rare happening what attracts… and big numbers
"300 dead people" Well if you ever paid attention on this events the big deal isn't the dead people from the earthquake itself...
300 people dying its not a tragedy... Look up how many people are being killed every hour. It's the damage it makes, it puts millions of people on the street, makes thousand suffer for the few that died. The risk of the nuclear power plants.
Shut the fuck up you unbelievable piece of shit.
-
There was actually a huge outrage because a lot of Americans tried and succeeded in getting 'HURRICANE KATRINA' trending on Twitter and it was all of the 'Japan didn't help US with Katrina' nature etc.
-
@JERK:
Shut the fuck up you unbelievable piece of shit.
Thank you!
I was actually contemplating to point out what was wrong with what Kabi was saying. I need an Inner-Zephos to tell me not to bother.

AGREED!!!!
what are human lives to this guy, whether we know them or not, how many were killed or not, whether we sit around worrying or not 300 dead is a tragedy
hell I'd consider any deaths a tragedy, human lives are worth more than money, who the fuck is this person
plus there's people with family's there on these forums that alone should have shut him up, ban the punk
I've never seen JERKDISEASE this mad before, and he has a right to be
-
I'm disappointed by quite a few people's conduct in this thread. As I said earlier, if you don't have anything that isn't inane or selfish to say, please go ahead and shut the hell up.

This is just awful. My grandma's hometown…. I haven't seen her for many years, but I pray that she is okay. We still don't have any news and I'll bet my mom is worried sick about her. :(
-
First off I agree with Zephos, no matter what this really isn't the place for bad jokes or do you see anyone laughing about it? :wassat:
Looks like a mini tsunami reached Newzealand, however, aside from rising water it seems to be spared from any serious damage. The Philippines and Taiwan also reported very little damage and so far no casualities.
Further earthquakes were to be expected but still it sounds terrible. Hopefully most people were evacuated from the regions at risk, especially the coast.
-
Some of these pictures are quite harrowing. Looks like a Cake that's been sliced. So fragile.

Is it wrong if I find that kinda cool and awe-inspiring at some level?
-
That picture almost looks fake, wow. Doesn't seem real, that a road you could drive on every day of your life, just split in half. It really hits you to think that this just…happens in nature.
-

How disturbingly perfect that slice is.
I hope no one was driving there when that happened. I was always afraid of falling inbetween cracks like that when I was a kid. Often feared they were bottomless.

Appearently a man is missing in North-California, after going to close to the shore. He was taking pictures with friends. According to AP. (._.")

sigh
Why don't people heed warnings? I mean, if you can avoid it, there isn't much you can do, but THAT…
-
@No:
Okay, how the hell do you fix that ?
They'll have to bridge it with steel beams and brace it with tar. They could also try to fill up the hole but considering that it will run 100 meters+ deep the first one is the most reasonable option.

Wow. Just….how the hell does it clean across that perfectly? Was there something in the infrastructure or something?

But wont there be a huge possibility of the whole thing collapsing ?
