Seasons sets were always a given. Those of us that have bought the two-disc sets knew from the onset that bigger collections would come.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

The thing about Hulu Plus, was that Hulu Plus on the PS3 was just released. They were still trying to get One Piece on the PS3. They have now gotten One Piece on the PS3.
The quality is amazing. Watch a Sabody episode, and the Share The World opening looks beautiful.
-
The box sets were a slap in the face when they use to put out four episode dvds, but I don't think anyone has cause to complain with the thirteen episode sets.
-
I'd just be aggravated that my $160 spend on season one would come out in a box set for 60$. Box sets, especially considering they'd be nicer sets than the voyages, would greatly upset me.
Yeah…not sure if I buy the Box Season Sets if they ever make them unless they have some cool extras with it. New commentaries or a blooper reel or something.
Still is it possible to have an eight disc Season Set? How many do they put for the DBZ Season Sets?
-
The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Boxes are six discs a set with seven episodes a disc.
Lost has done seven disc sets (of course that's a bit different from what FUNi does), but eight discs should be easy. FUNimation can combine two discs into one thin-pack and shove four thin-packs into a sleeve case for One Piece.
-
Wow, Colleen's performance as Luffy was really good during these last episodes of Skypiea. Tatum's Eneru is also nice and deranged.

Tatum's Eneru is bordering on being winner of "Best voice in the whole dub" for me
-
14 disc season two set.
I don't think they'll come out with season sets.
Its possible they'll come out with Season X Part X sets that include 26 or so episodes, but that is a bit unlikely. I don't think One Piece sells well enough to warrant a second edition. I may be mistaken though, I don't know much about how One Piece sells. Modestly, I assume.

I'd signed up with a trial of it not a month ago, and it was still web exclusive.
sigh welp, time to go sign back up, watching it on my TV is something I can't pass up.

Agreed. From my memory, he's one of the only characters in the dub that has been consistently right with every single line.
-
If you like, I could send you a referral link.
It will give you 2 weeks free, even if you already used your free trial.Eneru has one amazing voice actor.
Hulu also keeps the dub episodes up to date.
Right now they have uploaded the dub and sub of episode 188, which is where Calgara and Noland are speaking to each other. -
@Zach:
That's why we can't shut up about him.
Gotta talk about something when there's no new news.

It's the series that don't do well that DO get a cheaper reissue. Big Windup, good as it is, got a SAVE edition pretty quickly after the volume releases. Smae with Sgt. Frog making two box sets out of four.
-
All of FUNimation's anime get reissues with more episodes/cheaper price eventually, but some get them more quickly than others. I have a feeling the more it sells a sustainable over a longer period of time, the longer the wait will be for a reissue.

Season One, First Voyage came out in 2008. We have yet to see it getting reissued (although I'm sure it's been repressed). So that's nearly three years at this point.
-
By constrast, Dragon Ball Season One (the 'Blue Bricks') has recently been repriced from fifty to thirty-five MSRP. Dragon Ball Season One just came out 15 September 2009.

Not sure if this was brought up in this thread before but I noticed while looking though this month's Shonen Jump that they mention One Piece S3V5 in their little DVD promo corner. It seems to only have ten episodes on it which are Episodes 196 to 206.
Also it said that the DVD set will be released in February but Shonen Jump has been wrong before with dates and covers in the past.
EDIT: Mikey can't count at the late night hours. He means 11 episodes, not 10.
-

Oh you right. I can't count….Proof that it is time to get some sleep. Thanks.
-
Yeah, Amazon.ca's no reliable source, but my preorder for S3V5 still says it'll ship on February 15th.
Shame it's no cheaper if it's true it does only have 11 episodes. But I suppose it's only 2 less than normal…

This definitely gives a higher percentage that if the next season gets released we might get our widescreen/HD versions.
-
11 episodes… That is good news! Was obvious too...
In Japan, the Log box sets will be doing Skypiea through Water 7 at the end of the year. Maybe Japan will release 207+ in 16:9 this go around. Maybe they also wanted to do that before we got it... Possible?

Yeah, it's possible. And it makes sense, too.
-
Assuming that 207+ was animated in HD and not just widescreen.
Do you think Funimation would start putting out Blu-Ray releases alongside the DVD releases? -

That does make a lot of sense. As I understand it reverse importation is a concern for Japanese media distributors considering how cheap North American DVDs and BluRays are in comparison AND Japan and US are in the same region for BluRay. I think Funimation brought it up at one of their panels in regards to BluRay releases and how some of the studios make them wait a certain amount of time before they're allowed to start selling BluRays.
-
Only 11 episodes, huh?
Looks like we won't be reaching DBF/Water 7 for a while, then.
-
Yeah. If anything we won't be seeing new One Piece DVD sets until next year then. I guess that makes sense seeing that most likely they haven't dubbed anything past 206 most likely.
-
Didn't we hear something about Strong World a while ago? Like somebody from FUNi saying they were in negotiations but it was taking a while or something along those lines? I wonder how that's going on.
-

Yep, the source is buried somewhere around here and toonzone but the first person I heard it from is Jacob Paschal a.k.a. Yuugi's Black Magician. Well at least he gave the source. Some blogger or someone went to SDCC last year and the FUNimation C.E.O. told him they're trying to get "Strong World" but that he said something along the lines of Toei Animation taking a while to negotiate with. I wish I had the source on me.
Yeah and of course they're only going up to 206 on the next set, putting in 2 more episodes would cross into Season 4 territory.
-
So yeah, I am guessing no new One Piece sets till at winter '11 at best? Damn. I wonder what will happen to them streaming episodes of the show? Will they stop after G4?
-
Has it been said anywhere in writing from a legitimate source that any episodes from 207+ have been dubbed? Because I'm beginning to believe that some of the "One Piece is canceled in America" nonsense is starting to return again.
-
What Firecrouch said, if we take Gen's word on it, they're almost definitely either still negotiating or wrapping up negotiating. That's what I gathered from my trip to Dallas in January from pure speculation of reactions and just the fact that I didn't see any One Piece recording.
-
What is the likelihood of getting dvd releases of One Piece with more episodes in the future? From 207 forward, and well into water 7 and cp9, sometimes the episodes crawl by without any significant plot changes. Sorta like many chapters of marineford. They also get shorter and the recaps at the beginning take up more space. I wonder if the dvd sales will continue to stay well if they keep releasing them 13 at a time.

Well let's just hope for the best, being pessimistic won't help get any new episodes.

You want me to put a number to it?
50%?
It's really totally up in the air, if you ask me. From all the people I've talked to I've heard both the bad and the good concerning a possibility of a new release. All I know is that they're (A) not recording now (B) won't comment in any way (C) the con reps and actors have no clue.
-
50/50 seems reasonable. i mean hey, their refusal to comment could mean there's some super surprise in the works in terms of releasing it, idk…....it all comes down to waiting and seeing.
-
Withdrawing all comments altogether is doing the opposite, if you ask me…
-
Withdrawing doesn't really mean one thing or another I think, it could mean there's nothing to talk about or they do have something that they can't talk about.

Best post I've seen all day.

Personally when it comes to that I think it's the latter. Funimation's been pretty open about not continuing Kodacha or Case Closed/Detective Conan or Big Windup. If they were dropping One Piece why hide it when they're open about it with other series?
-
At the very least I think we'll get another movie.
-
Assuming that 207+ was animated in HD and not just widescreen.
Do you think Funimation would start putting out Blu-Ray releases alongside the DVD releases?K-F is currently releasing high definition versions of 207+, so I'm absolutely sure they were originally mastered in HD.

Yeah I've just looked into that.
Seems like 207 was where the HD started.
Nice to finally settle that. -

I really don't think thats it. I think they just wanted to end a season at the end of an arc. They've fiddled with episode numbers per box set before so that this would happen. I wouldn't say it necessarily means we won't get more till next year.
I'm thinking they may have pushed the release from feb to april in part so that there'd be less time between ssn3pt5 and ssn4pt1. I'm geussing June or July for ssn4pt1. But you could be right too. Blind speculation.
-

wasnt there a post on here exclaiming that toei wanted to have them licensed in a complete set/ licensed in order, rather than in seperate individual?
or did i imagine this?
just curious as we did get movie 8, so strong world license would be bad azz

Well you're probably referring to Toei Animation Europe. A while ago PirateBeck found out from Manga U.K. that in order for them to release the "One Piece" movies in England they'd have to release them in chronological order. That probably explains the setup that Germany is getting. We got Movie 8 first because Toei Animation Inc., which controls North and Latin America, probably didn't have that stipulation.
-
I feel like the best thing for One Piece movies would be a movie box set… Sure, I'd buy them individually if they released them that way, but I think a bowset would be awesome. 4-8 movies per set?
