No half face only half beard first chest hole is smaller and now he has two. I am disappointed. Akainu fell into a pit… how fking unecessary
484: ''Navy HQ is Destroyed! Whitebeard's Silent Anger!''

@Cyan:
Wait. Hold on people.
Next episode.
The greatest moment of the war.
You mean when Whitebeard kills Blackbeard with the secret technique only passed down by the most sacred pirate masters, the Five Strike Beard Tornado?
-
No half face only half beard first chest hole is smaller and now he has two. I am disappointed. Akainu fell into a pit… how fking unecessary
Akainu didn't fall into just any pit…. he fell into a bottomless pit.
So we won't be seeing him again. -
@mdmartin101:
While many people were complaining about Luffy not being dead silent at the end of last episode, I actually prefer what they did here.
Instead of Luffy breaking, his crying became harsher. He was without a doubt broken, and while in the manga he just fell apart and once, here he last all reasoning, simply crying, than screaming, and than just silent.
Yeah I actually really liked Luffy's reaction both in this episode and the last. People were complaining that it looked weird and awkward.
But guess what people? Grief that sharp is not smooth or subtle… it's a snibbling mess.
-
I was getting ready to take a giant shit on this episode because Whitebeard getting half-faced is omitted.
But it blew me away in terms of expectations. The action, art, and pacing were all damn good, and featuring great performances by the VAs. Too bad the entirety of this arc couldn't have been like this. Looking forward to the rest of the arc.
-
..So this episode is a bit longer than 1 chapter that they've been doing since the start of the war. You think they'll continue like that? I can't see though how they'll end the next episode any other way the manga did though, so they might have to stretch it out a lot?
-
Best part of the episode was the scene in my avatar.
SHIT. You beat me to it. First thing I thought when I saw that, and I was a mere photoshop opening away.
-
Akainu didn't fall into just any pit…. he fell into a bottomless pit.
So we won't be seeing him again.Unless he manages to create a small patch of igneous rocks before hitting the ocean, then turns into a mini volcano and erupts from the bottom of marineford :ninja:.
I really liked how they repeated clips Ace's death scene until Luffy's mind completely broke. It reinforces the fact that yes, Ace is dead and he's not coming back. Ever. It's a good example how one's mind would be right after a traumatic event; like your life flashing before your eyes. That scene will continue to play in his mind over with every single detail.
-
@Venomous:
Yea, I guess its an acceptable substitute, but man it would have made it that much better if they could have given us true halfbeard
Seriously, I almost died laughing cause he looked like a tired bullfrog in that shot
[qimg]http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g113/Saccitysaleen/Picture1-6.png[/qimg]All in all great episode though, the music was excellent
I got chills watching Whitebeard pushing Akainu around, then I saw this. ^_^
And here I am, with the screenshot ready, and you've already posted it…
-
The Hole is an ok compromise… I guess... But seriously, what was wrong with just having that half of his head get burnt including blinding that eye?...
We can see a red festering hole in Ace, but we can't see some severe burns on one half of Whitebeard?!...
-
Standards and practices. They exist in Japan too.
I guess same reason they can't have Arlong shoot Bellemere in the face or have Zeff eat his own leg.
Or Luffy stab his face.
-
There's got to be a threshhold. I wasn't expecting half his face to get smashed off, but Its literally unchanged now.
There couldn't be ANY damage to it AT ALL?! Why didn't they just do as much damage to the face that they legally could? Some of which be, AT LEAST burning his eye shut or blinding him in it?!
-
Hey Demon Rin, i used to see you on Daizex forums furiously defending the censorship and lame edits in DB Kai. What gives?
One of the best episodes of the arc…no, of the whole series. Luffy's breakdown was dark and perfectly done - now we know why they didn't go with silent Luffy last week.
WB vs Akainu made me go "fuck yeah", while San Juan Wolf made me smile. Also the (more than expected) censorship got an acceptable replacement, so yeah. Just burning his eye or something wouldn't deliver the idea of heavy damage.I kind of wanted more hi-def episode to represent the epicness of this episode.
Indeed, even the weakest Deguchi episode looks leagues better in HD, One Piece is meant to be seen like that. Even the colors on Funi's stream look dull as hell.

No, I agree with you. However, after thinking about it, a giant-ass hole seems more debilitating than a singed half-face.
-

But he will come back.
! Gol. D. Ace.
-
i applaud this one,
for a merely 10 page chapter that was the basis for this episode, it was paced amazingly well.in fact it actually went 2 pages into 576 lol
anyways, episode was AMAZING. I seriously think they couldn't have done a better job and having a the censorship didn't really change much for me. Hell how many injuries has whitebeard taken since the start of the war and just shrugged it off like nothing. kinda lame I wish that he lost his use of an arm or something
10/10 this week!
oh and the blackbeard pirates voices were perfect. -
Episode was AMAZING, best of Marineford so far…best One Piece episode since SA IMO..
-
Toei this is one of those rare moments in which you deserve this:
[hide][/hide]Was worried about the inevitable censorship among other things but the episode was one of if not the best of the war. I cannot wait to rewatch the episode in better quality.
-
@mdmartin101:
But he will come back.
! Gol. D. Ace.
Probably in the next 3 years or so :ninja:. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

He will come back as
! Moria's zombie

This episode was pretty damn fantastic; Luffy's mental breakdown scene was brutally disturbing enough to make me applaud Toei's efforts to display the darkness and intensity of this arc, Whitebeard's epic fight with Akainu was unbelievably badass and well-animated, and the introduction of the Blackbeard Pirates was also finely well-done. The censorship was indeed done, but the awesomeness of the rest of the episode made up for it, somewhat.
Not bad, Toei, not bad at all. This definitely makes the Top 3 list of the best episodes of the arc by far.
-
This was an awesome, awesome episode, but I just cannot get that still shot of the Blackbeard crew at the end out of my head. o_o The deformed, oozy, noodle faces… How did they manage to do that... But other than those last few seconds everything was beyond expectations, especially the horrific Luffy breakdown which will haunt my nightmares. And Akainu being tossed around like a rag doll was certainly satisfying. Didn't even care about the censorship, there's no way they could have shown that.
-
The music was as epic as the fight between Akainu and Whitebeard. I almost didn't mind the lack of missing face melt.
Marco's face was hilarious. The person who called it a tired bullfrog was spot on.
-
The episode I've been waiting for, and dare I say "better" than the manga chapter? A first during this arc. Sure, Whitebeard still has half of his face, but the extended fight with Akainu and the marines makes up for that I think.
-
Edward was Awesome as a hollow with one Hole, Now WTH….And the problem is the scene where he got the Second look like When he was stabbed by his Son....I mean he sat on his knee then hugged Akainu.
-
Fantastic, brilliant…amazing episode. Perhaps one of the best of entire series, it blew my expectations and it delivered this magnificent episode....
10/10...this episode will be remembered for one of those exceptional One Piece episodes that will stand amongst the rest and can be remembered just by its episode number.
Now I need to get 720" HD version of this downloaded and watch it in all its glory.
Toei you magnificent son of bitches, I was starting to doubt you but then you deliver stuff like this.
-
This is coming from someone who hates the anime but this episode was GOOD. It made Whitebeard look as badass as he needs to.
-
Great episode, no comments needed.
-

…what?
Also, amazing episode! Definitely the of the best ones in the arc. Was very satisfied seeing Akainu getting the crap kicked out of.
-
Whitebeard is awesome enough said. The anime finally did justice to just how powerful he is. Adding a second hole is an acceptable substite for ripping his face off. Luffy's mental collapse was suitably disturbing and Marco finally does something.
I was surprised to see just how short this chapter was and how much the fight between Whitebeard and Akainu was dragged out and frankly it needed it. These are arguable the two most powerful characters in the series. It needed to be epic and it was. Judging from the preview next weeks seems to have a similar lengthened fight as that was really short in the manga as well. Looks like Toei knows what they're doing when it matters.
-
That fight, my god
-
Enjoyed the episode alot
When Whitebeard got punched in the stomach, the way they had it going with the flames I thought they might go with the flames buring his face as a way around blowing half his head off
Oh wellI also loved Whitebeard ominously standing behind Akainu
You just knew Akainu was going to get raped -
and Marco finally does something.
Yeah, i didn't realize at first, but most of Marco's speech was anime original. That explains my surprised "whoa…what is this?! Marco is being kind of awesome here" reaction.
-
I gotta say that was one of the greatest episodes I've seen in a long time. Luffy's grief was frighteningly insane, the battle between Whitebeard and Akainu was incredible and Blackbeard's appearance capped the perfection.
-
I love you Toei! For a few days I will love you!
That was the most amazing episode of the war.
They had to take away Halfbeard… but they still managed to make an episode that was so awesome words cannot describe it.Although my favourite Admiral (and my third favourite marine) is Akainu, when WB kicked his ass I was like: Yeah, die, die you magma bastard!
And to think Sakazuki was fixing his hair a few episodes ago...
Oh, and I loved the "Oh shi..." face. I think I'll have a new wallpaper.
WB taught Red dog how to roll. But Akainu was a bad doggie so he didn't get a biscuit.By the end of the ep I completely forgot about Blackbeard... when they showed up I said: Wha...? Get the hell out, I want to see WB destroying Marineford!
Their voice... I guess I have to get used to them. Don't get me wrong, they're good, just a little strange to me. But that's okay.9,9/10
-
! I may be bad at reading the manga, but did Whitebeard really fight Akainu and then dropped him underground?
-

Yeah way to ruin the moment Blackbeard.
-

Chapter 575 page 6-ish or so. Not exactly the dropping into the dark chasm part, but it shows Akainu sliding down the collapsing slab of floor post Whitebeard pwning.
-
Ugggg, my hatred of the anime has reached new depths, they haven't done worse than this since the Luffy vs Hawkeye crap.
Ruination of the WB vs Akainu fight, seriously, it was epic because it happened so fast in the manga, that's why when reading it you are so blown away! That and WB getting half his face blown off, which they also trashed. Although that's pretty much the only stuff that made me hate the episode, it was so terrible that it runs over all the good stuff.
I did like the music and Luffy's crash, although that could have been made quite a bit shorter, in the manga I always felt that he pretty much was out of it from the moment ace died, still good though. The music was awesome! It really brought me into the feel of the episode.
Overall I would have to give this a 3/10. It was a decent episode but they ruined any chance of it being a great episode by killing the WB fight.
-
i dont know why you watch the anime then. it wont get any better than this, sorry.or maybe youre just an attention whore.
-
One thing that pisses me off is how all the blackbeard pirates were drawn, it looks shit. They better make the redheads pirates look decent when they appear.
But overall, good episode
-
i dont know why you watch the anime then. it wont get any better than this, sorry.or maybe youre just an attention whore.
Oh I usually don't, I tuned in for last episode and this episode because epic things happened in the manga and I wanted to see how they turned out, I was disappointed. Also, like I said, most of the episode was pretty good, it was only the Akainu vs WB fight that killed it for me.
-
i loved this episode
Just when akainu was about to use helhound, i thought uh oh he´s gonna get his head burned. It just seemed like he was gonna hit his head. but i still loved it. This was one hell of an episode. sadder than the last one. this one actually made me teary eyed
No Buggy!! =D
-
Well, the fight was different from the manga in certain things, but they still made it look epic in the anime way.
This episode was great. Can't wait for redhalfwhitebeard, which would be more epic if was redhalfheadwhitebeard. -
Damn, was that an actual great episode. Finally, after most of it being over, we see the War receiving treatment that it fully deserved. An episode, not containing several good moments, but actually enjoyable from the very beginning to the end. The picture and animation, music and voices of seiyu, the overall directing and pacing - at long last it all was handled so well. The team of Inoue and Miyamoto certainly did their work.
The moments I liked most are the intense fight of Akainu and Whitebeard, and Luffy stopping crying and going silent, as he should have from the very start.
Now here's some hope that they keep this form up at least till the next episode.
If you didn't like this episode, get the F*CK out of the One Piece fandom.
Seriously.
And the new BB's are fugly as fuck anyway, so they don't look much worse with bad art.
You mean when Whitebeard kills Blackbeard with the secret technique only passed down by the most sacred pirate masters, the Five Strike Beard Tornado?
Eh-xcellent posts indeed.
-
This episode was everything an episode should be, except for the fact they didn't stay entirly true to the manga.
Great pacing, great animation, great emotions. Best episode in a long while.
-
Eh-xcellent posts indeed.
Just that it was a big posing shot and so I don't get why it had to be "fluent" .
-
What can I say this was a rare gem of an episode. But I was laughing the whole time. (Highlight: Akainu’s Holysh face, Ace’s ‘pops’, Luffy’s scream, Marco’s face, the moustache, the two holes, can’t remember)
That piercing scream was nice. Last 5 minutes of the Whitebeard–Sakazuki fight/Marineford destruction were so satisfying to watch I was thinking kill him. They ruined BB pirates’ entrance I felt no Don.
Hell yeah my favourite chapter next make it grand Toei. Somehow.
-
The screaming part was an amazing touch and the fight was awesome. Could have been much better if they didn't put unnecessary flashbacks and slow-pacing(again) though. God, it's always those things which ruined the episode.
-
This ep had terrible art. It was like the Iva vs. Magellan episode.
Teach appearance looked like a kid drew it. Also not that impressed with the fight. I mean nobody had a problem with Akainu trying to use karate vs. WB? A quake that explodes like a ki blast? All that complaining about the ep leading up to Ace's death but this one gets praise?
This episode was hit and miss. Made Marco look like a bitch being blasted away by Akainu then some slo-motion running with Jinbe. They gave him a typical fat guy run instead of showing him sprinting. Episode is almost at Mihawk vs. Luffy&Jinbe level of failure to me. The cool scenes saved it however(luffy's break-down, quake punch, splitting the Island) whereas that episode had nothing redeeming.
They better turn this arc into a movie. I'm still in awe of all the positive comments.I must have watched something entirely different.
