I hope this isn't considered posting something about spoilers outside of the spoiler thread but, the Whitebeard logo is indeed now what it is in the anime.
Unfortunately, there isn't a spoiler thread yet, and the spoilers are up on other forums. Hopefully, BF or someone else already dropped a msg in a mod's inbox.
-
Open your eyes man. Spoiler threads aren't posted on the manga forum anymore, but a subforum above the manga board. Look.
-
I don't know if anyone else noticed it, but isn't the whitebeard swastica reverse of a normal one? If I remember correctly, a reverse swastica was the greek symbol for good luck. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong
-
Read the topic dude, just read the topic.
-
All political bullshit aside, I'm sure a better looking symbol can be used to substitute the Swastika, like some kind of cross for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_cross
I think the Cross Potent, the Maltese cross, or the Cross Pattee would work better than the weakly bone cross.

GRRRRR POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS THE WORST THING ON THE PLANET
I WANT TO REFER TO THE NEGROID RACE AS GORILLA MEN BUT EVIL POLITICAL CORRECTNESS WON'T LET ME
ewrtyhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Anime and Manga have differnt guild-line about these things, and if it really people pushing for the change to
Anime Whitebeard's FlagWhich people could say it looks like
Odin’s Cross http://www.adl.org/hate_symbols/racist_celtic_cross.aspNot will know in the east, but in the west this symbols is one the many symbols for a Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists Partys
-
But no one knows about that so it's a okay!!
-
I guess the Swastika was the real factor in this whole mess….
but I guess it would be more pirate like for the flag to be a crossbone, rather than a swastika (temporary ignoring the fact that the real meaning of the swastika is).
isn't a jolly roger incomplete without the crossbones?
-
Ah, no. Come to think of it, Blackbeard's flag didn't even have a jolly roger on it. It was a Devil holding an hourglass with one hand and stabbing a bleeding heart with a pitchfork with the other. Calico Jack's flag is exactly like Shanks' flag, only without the eye scars, and uses swords instead of crossbones.
Actually, look at these flags. Many of them don't have crossbones:

Grrrr… Radical slur jokes like that intent to get me in trouble, once I say an dark, radical slurs and trying to funny when I spoke against the muslims and terrorist.
Oh and I wanted to say that Mexcians nearly got burned thus getting tan skin but political correctness here won't let me.....
Doh! I really don't believe that all political correctness are bad, some are. What's good about political correctness is that it bars out radical views(like Black people are Gorillias for example; yes, I know it's bullshit)
This kind of political correctness is something I don't agree with, for god's sake, the swatikia was the symbol of health, Hiter stupidly use it for his evil crap. Political correctness don't have to be that way. Not all maji or swatikia are evil.

wow, i never rly realized that manji was banned in Europe and north America
they must never look into a Korean map then. Manji indicates buddhist temple in the korean maps.never really thought about it, but yah, neji's forehead and the whitebeard's flag did change.
i doubt Oda or anybody was thinking about Nazi at the time though. usually u think it's buddhist. (unless hitler was a buddhist i guess….?) why did he use that anyway? -
No you see in the budist one the prongs faced left, in the swastika the prongs face right thus delivering the opposite message.
-
You had to bump the new topic up? Cool.

This post is deleted!

Censoring the Svatiska is agreeing with Hitler making it a bullshit nazi symbol.
-
And all this because all censorers and complainers are way too stupid and ignorant to see that the Nazis always used their symbol not in the way Oda used it. Just look at the Nazi flag - the symbol is turned by 45° and has a mirrored orientation. Oda showed the swastika in the original use.
C'mon, the manga wasn't even censored in Germany where the Nazi symbol is banned - even on symbols to show that you don't tolerate this way of not thinking.
-
Jup only the exact nazi symbols are banned. The original swastika is of course not. And for art you can get the turned around one too if you can just prove that what you made is art. The German version of Hellsing Ultimate did that for example. Censorship like this is done to appease PMRC like mums not laws.
-
Wasn't aware of this… interesting. New flag looks better
-
Say, about Whitebeard's flag…
Now that Marco has taken over the role of Captain in the crew, will they change the flag?
And is anyone curious about the new ship they're gonna get now that the Moby Dick has died?

What? Yes, it was. The symbol was edited out, except once in OP Red, but normally it was.

I am sooooo sure I read that on the One Piece wikia.
It clearly stated that Whitebeard told him to take over the crew.
just checked and it's gone.Oh well…

No need to, Marco inherited the beard, too.

Ah, yes I remember… Sorry. I have to confess that I stopped reading the official German version after I came in contact with OPwiki and found out about name changes, wrong or missing bounties and translations... Must have been some time before I bought Red and Blue.

Was bumping a 4 year old thread about a topic that does not matter anymore really needed?
Was complaining about bumping a 4 year old thread about a topic that does not matter anymore really needed?
Sure its an ancient topic, but the discussion of censorship and standards can still be interesting. And hey, it means they used the "search" function before creating a new thread to talk about the same thing, so, that's a plus in my book.
-
Viz left the Jolly Roger as is in their release of Vol. 18. Either this wasn't going to be an issue for them or they were just too lazy it change it.

So did Oda. It didn't get changed until volume 45. Viz may not have even been aware that it was going to be changed at the time they originally printed vol. 18.
It was censored for japanese audiences, and to synch it up with the anime and merchandizing, and its just a choice Oda made to avoid potential problems. (He changed Chopper's design to match what the anime was doing after all because he agreed with the look they came up with.)
But, considering Viz has done things like translate the words on the Captain's coats before, its clearly not that they were unwilling to do it or too lazy, but I guess they felt just leaving a note saying "This is a manji, not a swastika" was enough for the few panels it was going to end up being in.
