Was Squardo ever called a division commander? I thought he and his crew were just a sidebranch. Correct me if I'm wrong.
He wasn't a division commander, he was captain of his own crew - allied to the WB pirates. So, yeah, you're right :D
I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but has anyone ever thought that the woman in this page could be Lola's mom? This page:
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v56/c551/12.html
I'm not saying that she is Big Mom, mind you. Her mom might simply be a strong pirate, but not as strong as Big Mom.
BTW, I apologize beforehand if you're not allowed to post links to scanlation sites here.
EDIT:
@Al!naJames:
In manga it looks like her legs are just put together, not combined.
Never use anime screenshots to try and proove anything, it fails all the time.

EDIT 2: Okay, never mind… Someone has already pointed out that woman during the Whitebeard War arc.
have anyone ever wondered where the vivre card that nami has is put? she doesnt have much clothing to conceal that piece of paper from us O.O
I'm not sure if this has been posted but Vander Decken seems to be wearing a hat resembling Luffy's in his Wanted Poster.
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/74136489/11
He could have passed the hat down to his grandson, who now boards the Flying Dutchman. Sherliey's prediction only said a "human with a straw hat" not necessarily Luffy.

She has pockets, you know.

Mangastream new tweet:
"Errors in this weeks OP chapter have all been updated and fixed. Please reread for you enjoyment pleasure. :)"
I then retract my statement about their lack of professionality in not copping to mistakes, but instead just quietly fixing them and not telling folks. They stood up and did the right thing.
Translating is a tricky business, and Mangastream's translator is under a lot of pressure to get OP done super fast, and he's not, from what I've heard, a real fan of OP, so it's not surprising there will be a few errors here and there. As long as they get fixed and notice is sent out, I think that's ok. Noone is getting paid to do these things, after all. (Though I personally am glad to have access to Aohige, who does it right the first time, lol)
@Ghosty:
Holy Caribous, WTF? Oda wrote it as "Big Mam" in this very chapter!
That says BIG MAMA the last A and part of the M is blocked by that talking starfishs head once again it is NOT big mam the end.
it's wrong most english speakers use Mom instead of Mama and databook green said Mom so can use both Big Mom or Big Mama.
Lola says Mama not Mam and Mom shorter than Mama so be easier using it instead.

Gotcha. salam kenal aja. jarang2 ketemu orang sini
Anyway, this topic is really old. Though I have to admit that having the 4th Yonkou called Big Mam (or Big Mom or whatever) and having that huge lips on her jolly Roger gives the impression that Oda is giving us hints.
However , I'm more inclined to believe that Oda is just misleading us here. Read Sea's post, he made a good point there. I wont bother repeating it.
And to all the people who are guessing what her power would be judging from her jolly roger. From what I remember, Jolly Rogers in OP-verse resembles their owner's appearance more and not their abilities. So if anything, we can at least be sure she got huge lips

Oda wouldn't cover one of the letters. And what does Lola have to do with anything? Who say's she's talking about Big Mam? And if she is, who said she's using mama as a name, instead saying it's her mother?
And I'd say the chapter is more trustworthy than Green.
As a compromise possibility, Lola's mom could be Big Mam's sister and/or on her crew. Then there can be a resemblance without necessarily the same strength or status.
Honestly, I'd say the most interesting part of her design is what was posted earlier. Namely that her tail is EXACTLY the same as that of the shark Surume spit out. Now if only we had more info so we can figure out what this might mean about her
Didn't they also take note of how big the shark was too?
It's obvious that the straw hat person that is prophesized to destroy Fishman Island is Vander Decken XI.
It's obvious that the straw hat person that is prophesized to destroy Fishman Island is Vander Decken XI.
Perhaps Oda already knows that's what we would think.
I actually believe Luffy will be the one to seal the deal, but of course he'll have a very good reason.
Maybe you were being sarcastic? :P
@I:
That's a good point about making the assumptions about the poster too easy, but Luffy has never, up until now, taken an interest in politics, per se. Of course he is much more mature now, so things could be different, and only time will tell, but his stated purpose in everything he's done up until now involved helping a friend or friends, not freeing an entire populace from oppression, even if that was the final result.
The political aspect is from our point of view, from Luffy's point of view it will be about freedom. I think he has to do something as big if not more than Whitebeard declaring this territory under his protection. So really freeing FI would be it. Even if I can't imagine now how and why he would need to destroy the island for that matter.
It's obvious that the straw hat person that is prophesized to destroy Fishman Island is Vander Decken XI.
Except it'd be lame and anti-climactic.
@Mr.:
I'd like to see some Hyouzou fan art. His design is cool.
!
I really want Madame Shirley to be a NamiXRobin opponent. Predicted.
@Thousand:

I can see where you're coming from, but that's not enough for me to believe otherwise. If it were something less devastating I could believe it, but destroying the homes of all those people is way too unheroic to have Luffy do. Of course, Oda may set up a situation where destroying the island would become heroic, but I don't see it.

Gear 3rd Gomu gomu no Jet Gattling Elephant gun !!
Ok Maybe not …. At least we now know why Van Der Deken's head looked mishapen under the hood.
(because he was wearing a strawhat of course)<- for the idiots
Perhaps it'll have a double meaning. Van Der Decken will destroy part of fishman island physically, and Luffy will destroy it in a more symbolic sense by shattering some prejudices or something like that
I have a theory, its the only thing I can think off that is not anti-climatic and fits:
FI was created so that fish people, and humans could make business and stuff(something we don't know about) together on the same island, thats why it is so humanized, but humans ended up trying to kidnap fish people, and pirates ended up pillaging the villages, until one day, were WB raised his voice, and protected the island with its name.
And now its the same but with B.M. (Don't wanna discuss about a fuckin name).
Fish people are now dependent on pirates to protect the island. Even tough they don't need all that humanization, leaving the island would be like admitting defeat.
The island is causing no good to them. And they would be better off without it.
Jinbei figured that out, and decided to ask the only one he knew would do it, Luffy. Thats what is on the letter.
Obviously Luffy won't see the letter, instead some one of the crew will see it, but will not have time to tell it to Luffy, and in the middle of the fight with whoever is the boss he will start destroying Fishman Island, and then he will just stand up and scream some epic shit I'm not able to come up with.
I'm sure Oda can think of something better.

then it wud be harder for future pirates to go to the New World. I think luffy will just beat up the bad guys who "control" the island which is the same as "destroying" the island. I dont think luffy single handledly destroying a…. shoot they cant breathe underwater if the place is destroyed. It must be meant figuratively or luffy is gonna do something more epic and stop van D. from destroying the island and th.. Shirley will be happy because now she won't have to believe that her fortune-telling is so epic and will give luffy something in exchange. Him now that we've met so many characters i wonder who will be our fish/man/woman or mer/man/maid to join the crew. It definetly wont be shirley. And it cant be a mermaid/merman that isnt over 30. I mean how else will they walk on the ship?
EDIT: crap, wrong thread. How did that happen???
I think this has been brought up before, but I remember someone saying Big Mam would have a devil fruit related to nature, or vegetation. Like a pun on Mother nature, and I just noticed her jolly roger has what appears to be a tree in it.
It's a little far fetched, but I thought it was interesting.

Nice found, it really does look like a tree.
If she becomes an ally maybe she can give some ideas on attacks to Usopp, lol.
@joekido:
That will not make any sense. That is like America is fighting the Middle East, Europe decided to destory everything in America to force us to live the Middle East in harmony. It just sounded too forceful and Luffy destorying Fishman Island to make Fish/Mermen to live in harmony with humans is evil and it's like your taking something from them. Luffy would've do something like that
It's possible that some Fish/Merman would migrate to somewhere closer to the surface after the destruction of Fishman Island. It doesn't matter if the action is considered evil or not. Appearantly Luffy WILL destroy Fishmen Island.
I just can't believe it won't be Luffy to destroy the Island. It would be just anti-climatic to have someone say that Luffy will destroy the island, and then Luffy not destroying the island.
When I read the chapter the idea of Luffy destroying Fishman Island excited me and I hope he will. Though, I don't know whether it's anti-climatic if he won't.
@I:
Nah Luffy doesn't so stuff to teach people to do something, nor is he politically motivated. If he destroys FI, it'll be either that he is being controlled somehow, or that he is trying to save a nakama. We have yet to see nearly half of the crew, not to mention the potential for a new nakama in the wings, so the jury is still out on the whole thing.
And what about Alabasta and Skypeia? It wasn't his business yet he stopped Croc and ringed the golden bell as promised.
Even though Luffy acts for selfish motives most of the time he ends helping others even without noticing. I don't think this case is going to be different.
I believe that there are high chances that he'll end breaking the bubble barrier of the city and making Fishmen Island inaccesible to other humans, which would seem the logical thing to stop the danger of a pirate invasion.
Luffy will destroy FI…
Most of the place Luffy visited got damaged anyway, so why not FI....
Either it's intentional or not, FI will be destroyed...
Oda had the knack to build beautiful place only to destroy it....
Problem with Luffy destroying the bubble is that I can't see him or the rest of the crew living through that. Luffy still needs the TS coated again, and even if he didn't, popping the bubble would mean he'd end up drowning. Nor could anyone save him considering the water pressure

Luffy could withstand the pressure since he doesn't lost his rubber nature under water. He had to be rescued, but he won't die right in the spot.
And any fishman/mermaid could pick him easily.

Destroy the bubble? I don't recall a prediction about the bubble. I think the land part will be destroyed by luffy but the bubble will stay intact
first panel, could be what she meant by "destroyed"

Except it'd be lame and anti-climactic.
Explain how it's anti-climatic. I don't think you know the definition of the term. Luffy not destroying Fishman Island has nothing to do with the weather.
Anticlimactic on the other hand…Explain that too. Fortune tellers are never right in stories. That's usually why they're there.
On another note, I'm sad to see that the person (people) that gave Sanji blood are just throwaway characters. If there is anything I'm disappointed about this arc it was the handling of Sanji's condition. They jumped quite far into the future from Ch.609-Ch.610. I expected there to be a big struggle with trying to find a donor and some more world building about the Fishman/Merman mentality but Oda skips all of that and breaks the rule (that no Fishman would give blood to a human) he set up so easily.
Why is the beast zoro always get separted and by himself at the start of arcs? I pray for that swordsman who blocked luffy attack. Zoro will take him apart.

No one said that they were gone or won't play a role later on.
Also, if you try to spend 3 chapters trying to find blood for someone who has maybe an hour to live it doesn't work
If Luffy destroys FI… How are they gonna get back to the surface?
If we all remember, Thousand Sunny doesn't have a coating anymore. That and I'm guessing the only way to get out of FI with your coating intact is to go through the front door, which they probably won't let him do if he destroys the place. I don't see Luffy doing the damage here. Well, he might, but not intentionally. Think a couple moves ahead.
*And damn you Aaron for posting before me. Next time I'll read before I put my thoughts down.
Come on, there's no way he will literally destroy it :getlost:
And I don't think he'll destroy it at all.

He didn't break the rule, those Okama's clearly state that they're human.
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/74136489/4
It was stated in the chapter that more and more human pirates just began to come to FI.
It's children's book level simple. The 4 combinations are from boy/girl and fishman/merman. Any male and female combination of fishmen/mermen can have kids. The kid that comes out is totally a random number. Whether it's fishman, merman, boy, girl, or what species of fish it's based on. I suppose we're to assume that fishman and merman are some type of chromosome match like boy/girl is.
You're hung up on the species of fish it's based on I think, and it seems that simply anything can come out from anyone. We may never get an explanation on how that's possible (I hope we do), but I believe that we're to assume that it works that way.
I'd say that the 4 combinations are: Fishman Father Species, Fishman Mother Species, Merman Father Species, Merman Mother Species.

i think its more about the categories. for instance, octopuses can't have shark babies. but fish can have the many types of fishes. sharks can produce shark of many types, but wouldnt have an octopus come out of their baby maker

You can't get that from the chapter, as you shouldn't be able to breed let's say Hatchi and Ottopako and get a squid fishman.
