I like more anime that deals with the characters. I like drama. I don't like light stuff. I like dark and brooding stuff like Berserk, Monster, and Cowboy bebop.

In Japan, One Piece is given the credit it deserves for being obviously better than Naruto and Bleach.
The problem arises when you realize that:
1. Bleach and Naruto didn't get a terrible 4kids English Dub when it was broadcast over here. Funimation has One Piece now, and their dub is awesome, but the damage was done! I'd be happy to provide you with a list of things that was wrong with the 4kids dub. Since it's the one that was broadcast on T.V first it's going to be what the viewers think of most when they think of One Piece. Naruto and Bleach were dubbed faithfully and it kept in all the blood, story arcs, didn't change character's names, didn't replace cigarettes with lolipops, didn't replace guns with super soakers, etc.
2. A lot of people I know in America are stupid.
True, but if Japan was smarter, it'd also have Naruto and Bleach much lower in the ratings, and manga like Double Arts wouldn't get cancelled.

EXCUSE ME??? Ok, first, that question is a matter of opinion. There are HUNDREDS of other anime and manga out there. So you can't even
really have a true opinion on that until you have seen ALL of them, which I doubt anyone here has.But, as I'll answer it based on all the anime that I'VE seen, I'd say that it may very well be. I mean, in my case, Im a procrastinator. I can watch the first 5 episodes and stop right there, even if I like the series. But ever since I started watching One Piece, I've always come back to it, which must say something about One Piece, right?
Oh, sorry if I sounded like an ass, I don't usually talk that way. I don't know why I reacted that way. :/

I never thought of this that much, but off the top of my head, I'd say that a single anime episode covers at least 1 or 2 chapters of the manga, sometimes less or more. A manga chapter is mostly 15-18 pages. And a manga volume usually has 8-11 chapters depending on the length of the chapters.
I tried my best, but I think this is somewhat accurate.

Well at first they did one anime episode for every couple of chapters and when they got to close to the manga they added filler arcs. Now they stick to one episode per chapter and just add "padding" which is small filler scenes or drawn out scenes.

I would have preferred they stuck to the original pacing. But I guess writing whole filler arcs was expensive. Don't know.
You watch the old episodes (Which I do all the time) the pacing was super fast.

for the record , it's 479 . And just to put aside any conceptions you may have carried over from watching western shows , an episode is aired every week , almost the whole year through , no season breaks or anything of the sort of things that those silly americans indulge in :ninja: .

It's because 4kids got to it first, and Funi took it upon themselves to go all the way back to the beginning and redub all the stuff 4kids already did. that set them back, hence why we're only on 169 or so.

My first post on this forum and I just have to say after watching anime after anime One Piece was a complete surprize. It is simply awesome cant get enough of it, but Im preaching to the converted so Here are a few questions.
Ive smashed through all the episodes, is it worth reading the mangas or will it spoil these absolutely incredible plots for me and I should just wait for the anime to be released?
I just couldnt get enough of the series so I never stopped to watch the movies.. is it worth watching it now or should I just wait till the next one comes out?

Who cares if you spoil the anime by reading the manga, the point of reading the manga is to read the manga itself. It's not a distraction sideshow for the anime, it IS the show.

All movies are irrelevant to the plot, so you're not missing anything. you might like movie 10 though (the only one written by Oda).
As for the manga I think you better read old arcs which you already watched as anime and judge which one (manga or anime) you enjoy more.
Most OP fans enjoy the manga much more compared to the anime, but if you're enjoying the anime that much and not dying to know what will happen next then may be anime is your thing.
But don't get yourself spoiled with the manga without fully reading it, if you'll read the manga then read it fully so you'd enjoy it. -
