It's very realistic to think FUNi dropped OP with multiple sources saying they've been dubbing season 4 for a while now.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

If they aren't going to be dubbing it, why are they releasing Fourth and fifth Voyages three weeks apart?
That's what worries us the most.
What if they are trying to quickly release the last of their dubbed episodes in a last minute effort to get more money in hopes of continuing the series.
Of course, naturally, this is just us people who over-think things and we are probably worried for nothing. It could very easily, and most probably, be that they are trying to compensate for the previous voyage being pushed back a month. We are just nervous that there hasn't been a single update in the recent cons and we're getting pretty close here.
-
@Zach:
IF they actually decide to actually pick up passed the episodes they originally ordered (through 205, presumably).
I don't want them to skip it now. I just wanted to know if we could get an estimated release range the lastpart of skypia comes out in january right? so im guessing it will be out in april 2011 i could be wrong though but hey as long as funimation does a good job and doesn't drop the series im good.

Heads up, if anyone actually wants to buy it:
On RightStuf's 12+ days of anime sale, One Piece movie 8 is $9.99 (DVD or blu ray)
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/F2=P4SadNQ9C=Onr3M/browse/item/82015/4/0/0 -
Movie 8 has been optimized for real HD correct and that it has the dubbed ending song.
-
It really boggles the mind somewhat that One Piece is bigger than any three Deities you care to name in Japan, but still struggles to hold a place in the west.
-

I believe the Blu-ray has both, yes.
It's very realistic to think FUNi dropped OP with multiple sources saying they've been dubbing season 4 for a while now.
Who said that? From everyone I've heard from they've stopped for a while, close to a year as of my recollection (Mike McFarland, Chris Sabat, J. Michael Tatum, Brina Palencia, Patrick Seitz).
-
The sky ain't falling yet, folks. It's gonna be a rough wait, but I'm gonna hold out for S3V5 to actually be released before getting worried.
-
Upon looking on RAC to see the release dates for S3V4 and S3V5, I noticed that S3V5 is gonna have episodes 192-201. What is up with that? I thought that S3V5 was gonna finish up S3 and that it was gonna encompass all of Jaya, Skypiea, and G8.
-

That's odd, because if the rumors some guys are spreading are true "OP's gonna be dropped after ep 205 (GAWD FORBID)" Then the next set would only have like 4 eps on it. Slowly turns towards the camera with a growing smile I think you see where I'm goin' with this.

The set's only going to have ten episodes in it? Why?
-
It'd make more sense if it ended at 206, (end of G8, right?), Mike said they had until "around 205" on several occasions.

Well, S3V5 supposedly ends on episode 201. If they got up to 205/206, it'd be highly illogical to simply stop at 201. As for the whole, "Funi dropping OP" rumor, I won't believe it until it is confirmed, and I don't see why they'd even do that, it's been doing very well for them, from what I understand. Then again, I was surprised that they dropped D-Gray Man (they did drop that one, right?), but in that case that one wasn't doing too hot in sales, right?
@Badass:

I'm not sure. For all I know, it could be a typo or something because the episode count does seem questionably low. I just thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention to clarify this issue, and maybe there's another site that has a different episode count for S3V5.
-
The problem with that is the fact that S3V4 is clearly being advertised as 183-195.
Seriously, guys, the releases have shown no sign of slowing down just yet. I'd bet my money that at the turn of the year, we'll see "Season Four: First Voyage coming on April 12th, 2011!" or even "May 10th, 2011!"
It's coming guys. Didn't we only find out about the first DVD release like two months beforehand?

Actually this is incorrect. D.Gray Man was selling fine. Not phenomenal, but good enough to continue with the series. Apparently there's licensing issues holding up the second half.

Oh, is that so? Well, RAC screwed up on that too. They said S3V4 would be from 179-191. Damn, they messed up their numbering for the other sets too!:getlost: Thanks for clearing that up.

I see. Thank you for clearing that up.

They are coming up to some really good arcs to. I really enjoyed Water 7 and Davy Back Fight.
-
Where does it say which episodes are on S3P5? Not rightstuf…
-
S3v4 has through to Episode 195 on it.
Mike McFarland has said several times they've done up to at least G8 which ended on 206.
By process of elimination, it must have 196-206 on it. That would complete G8 and the Fullscreen episodes. But the next part here is what we don't know anything about yet, and is basically just guess work. FUNi has never done a One Piece release with only 11 episodes on it before. I don't even think they've done any other series' sets with only 11 episodes on them, so… what now?
If they're canceling the series after this, do they go into the recording booth to record one or two episodes so they can end on an even 12-13?
Do they drop the series after this, and thus decide to do a release that's only 11 episodes?
If they are going on, did they get the widescreen Masters for 207-229?
So if they are going on, will we suddenly see the aspect ratio switch to Widescreen in the middle of S3v5?One thing that worries me is why Zach seems so pessimistic about the whole thing... He actually knows and speaks to people involved in production, He's had Tatum on the show like 3 times... Does he know something bad about sales that we don't?...
That's what worries us the most.
What if they are trying to quickly release the last of their dubbed episodes in a last minute effort to get more money in hopes of continuing the series.
That's one thing you should not be worried about. FUNi had a delay once in the past on another set, (Can't remember which one) and despite the delay, the next one still came out when it normally should have. So, essentially, this has happened before the exact same way.
-
You guys are scaring me about FUNi dropping One Piece and that would be a new nightmare to me since the 4kids trainwreck.
-

ditto for me too.
-
The one month delays aren't a bad sign, yes. They're likely just an issue of not wanting to flood the market, considering the bazillion other titles they're releasing (and hyping) each month.
We're not going to have a congrete answer until late January or February. There's nothing else to say, unless somebody wants to start sending FUNimation questions about it.
-
All the panicked speculation of Funi canceling OP is a little disconcerting, as I finally completed season two with Amazon's Thanksgiving sale. That said, I'd have a hard time supporting a non-Bluray release of the HD episodes if Toei won't give them up. If I'm not mistaken, Toei hasn't released the HD episodes on anything but DVD, correct? Given Toei's track record of not licensing out products they themselves haven't released at home yet, I doubt they will give those masters to Funi for fear of "reverse importation."
-
Damn it, I'd pick up the Blue-ray Movie 8 right now if I had my new debit card in. RightStuf doesn't accept routing numbers.
-
This talk about Funi dropping One Piece does scare me since I love the anime dub. Though I like to believe that since Funi is releasing new merchandise that involves One Piece then they have to have plans to keep on doing the series. Why waste time making merch for a series they are planning to drop like a rotten egg.
If anything maybe they are working on scripts and stuff since it is new stuff. Then again I don't know how long does it take to record for a DVD set so I can't be sure.

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better…
If Zach does know anything we don't, he can't say due to legal issues. But I admit, it does worry me as well now that you mention it.
-
Dammit now I'm worried too. -~-
-
Its probably just taking them a while to dub the other episodes. I remember them taking forever to dub the boo saga.
-
Casting could take a while. Finding the perfect person for Foxy, Aokiji, and the Water 7 characters is important. Though I suppose they've already done that with the games…
-
This is making me worried now. I just thought it was common rumors but this episode count raises some red flags. I am hoping it is because they are casting so many new characters and they need to find the right actors for the part.
I mean Aokiji is going to be an active character later on. -
Guys, Aokiji already been casted. As well Kaku, Paulie, Blueno, Spandem, and Lucci from the Unlimited Adventure game.
-
I wonder how many episode chunks does Funi purchase in long running shows. When (if?) they continue, will they dub another 206 eps? I don't follow the simulcast release but wow the show is almost gonna reach 500 episodes.
-
Even more considering we're only half way.
That kinda length makes me worry about even the Japanese cast of the show, but then again, we've had the same cast on The Simpsons for the past 20 years, so I'm not too worried there.
-

When they announce who is voicing Iceburg, then I'll stop worrying.

Most of the cast are in their fifties and up. I too fear the day we lose Tanaka as Luffy. :(

Oh jeez, the pessimists have finally gotten to everyone. Alright, let's start from the top. In season 3 third voyage, Sunny Straight (right?) was talking about how he couldn't wait to get back into the studio and start recording for one piece again. Mike Mcfarland shared his excitement, saying he couldn't wait either. Eric Vale told me in person that they've had to watch all of One Piece to the current episode, which Jerry Jewel also confirmed to me he had to do the exact same. No voice actor watches an almost 500 episode long series just because they feel like it. Funi has put a good amount of money into One Piece, and the merchandise is just now starting to come out in bulk rather than in small pieces. This means sales are doing well, which we know they are, and more importantly, Funimation is proud of One Piece. Mike Mcfarland wouldn't keep appearing on the One Piece podcast just to screw around with us on a series they were abandoning. There's no reason to have fear just because they haven't announced they resumed a dub; the point to be worried is when S3V5 comes out and there's no date for season 4 first voyage.
I have a feeling they've already started season 4, but just haven't announced it in any official way. Who knows, but worrying about it isn't going to solve anything :P
Edit: Also, they wouldn't still be doing the simulcasts if they dropped the series.
-
If memory serves, most series are purchased in 52-episode blocks. As 4Kids broke things down into 2 seasons of 52, Funimation took over with "Season 3", or 144-195. Keep in mind that this is not necessarily how they dub them, but how they sell them to the networks.
I'd imagine Season 4 has long been bought and is possibly being dubbed as we speak, if not almost done. Remember they had the first 195 episodes completely dubbed by about the middle of 2009. The fact that Colleen's acting sounds better in the S3V4 promo seems to hint that she's been working on her Luffy voice.
-
I'm not really worried about it. Since I'm focusing on watching on other anime (Mostly Gintama). And plus back at Anime Expo, Funimation said they will have One Piece announcements after all of Season 3 is out on dvd.
-
I feel better now.

-
I was watching the first episode in the uncut One Piece run from CN AUS on HULU and I wonder if FUNi recorded edited dialog for those episodes up to G8. Its interesting that they did and they will never be heard ever basically.
-
They probably did some redubbing up to G8. Since I remember couple of the episodes titles were different on the Austurlia uncut airing on one of the Season 3, Third Voyage set. I think it was episode 180.
The Austurlia title for the episode was "Showdown in the Ancient Ruins! Sky Lord Eneru's Goal!" while of course on the dvd release its "Showndown in the Ancient Ruins! Sky God Eneru's Goal!".
-
Funimation isn't dropping One Piece people, I don't know why you guys would think that just because we got no person in the business "leak" out some news.
-
FUNi has never done a One Piece release with only 11 episodes on it before. I don't even think they've done any other series' sets with only 11 episodes on them, so… what now?
Eden of the East, and that was $60.
-
Eden of the East, and that was $60.
Yeah, but there were only 11 episodes in that entire series which is kind of weird in itself.
-

Yeah. There was some redubbing for Skypeia since I remember Stephanie Young was telling me (and in the commentaries) she had to go in and redo some parts.
In the original airing of the show, Robin was calling people by their names. A mistake by Funi's part since they were still new to the series but it was fixed for the DVD releases.
-
It's always confused me how that issue was called a 'mistake'. Don't they have the translation right in front of them? Are they not reading it and taking from it that Robin has such a speak quirk? I just don't get how they could 'mistakenly' mess that up.
-
Well, they probably had a lot to do while we also don't know how many episodes they did before they aired on Cartoon Network. The translators may also have just thought it wasn't anything special at the time like Luffy's "mystery insert item here" thing.
-
@Yuugi's:

Things out of context sometimes don't make sense.
Amazing, I know.
Try going into the middle of a series and picking up on all character traits quirks.

"This one character is specifically referring to this other character not by their name, but the title of their role. I'm going to change the dialogue so that this is no longer the case." Of course, this would be based less on pre-established character and more on the content of the line at hand.
-
Shit's too extraneous. Why worry about it?
