There are two definitions of butt rock that I am aware of.
-
a synonym for "cock rock"
-
whiny mid-2000's mall emo (or any other unlistenable hot topic-friendly subgenre, e.g. metalcore)
Either way, avoid at all costs.

So do we count, Rise Against as buttrock. Yes I read the first few pages then skipped, I'll go back and read the rest later.
What's the jury's verdict on "This is One Piece" and AMV by Mauo23?
It was the first one I ever saw, and am curious what others think.

If it's already been posted, sue me for being too lazy to read through 12 pages right now.
@Thousand:
This is my absolute favorite amv ever.

Damn, the editing is godly, especially near the end. Also, great choice of animes.

buttrock is a generic term that anyone in this thread can use to define a musical genre they don't like and still appear to be conforming to the crowd!
That said, most of the quoted AMV's use pretty fucking terrible music.

Except Ohio is for lovers, which is great.

Isn't it obvious that the music is terrible?
if you keep a rock in your butt long enough it'll turn into a diamond from the heat.
JuniZoroFan's ZOMBIE one's okay - not as in love with that one though. After searching for most of her videos, I've also realized that even some of hers aren't really as awesome as I remember.
Mauo's good too, but that is not really one of his better ones.

Wash Away was a pretty good AMV. They overlayed so many scenes, it was very nice.
It sounds like a Christian song due to it saying I have sins lord, but now they are washed away.
What scene was where they all are in uniforms? Brook was probably the best clips there.
The Magellan Vs Luffy and Mr.3 I think depicted Impel Down Better than One Piece did. Haha
it made it a darker more dramatic place.

AO kiji what was the point of that amv? Bad music? or you like it?
wow, the editing on that's amazing, actually
I hate the new trend of using parts of songs for AMVs, but at least, they chose the part of the song that mostly fits the idea they were getting across.
Now they need to find entire songs that fit.

Yeah i agree but the idea of this thread, "Buttrock" some musc is really nice but then half way through you hear some guy screaming \on the top of his lungs.
no, he's right, there's a shit load of bad rock that people pick out to play to AMVs, not just One Piece, and with One Piece it's even harder to find something suitable - and on top of that, it's terrible music, period
you can't read
Anyone can find upbeat music, but it might be awful as well, or the song ends up being about death or some other bullshit. It's even harder to find upbeat LYRICS though because next to no one sings happy stuff anymore.
I vote for older rock in all honesty (shoot me, but maybe country too) - similar sounding to the JuniZoroFan video I posted, though that's Masterplan from 2003.
oh, hey, another Masterplan one that's more upbeat
j-n23nZBl-c
not liking this song as much as The Spirit Never Dies though
Interesting thread, and I agree with it as a former AMV maker. I'd spend as much time finding a song that fit what I wanted to do as I did actually making the AMV. I still wound up popping out a couple duds because I wanted to try a bunch of different things and then chose completion over abandonment, and most people were nice enough not to blast me for it. I'm also guilty of using one song I drove myself to hating (Christina Aguilera), because I felt it was well suited to what I was doing. The contrast between the music and the story was usually what held my interest.
My biggest pet peeve with AMV's is that the vast majority of them use songs that make no sense in context. I don't care about genre or popularity. I'd try to find songs that were dynamic, but mostly I only cared that it fit what I was doing, otherwise what's the point?
bobby's choice of Reel Big Fish is still awesome - there's also some Bowling for Soup that might work too
Okay, this is weird, I swore I already posted in this thread but I guess it got deleted with the random spam or something.
Anyway, Jerk Disease, you say that there are those songs that do not fit One Piece regardless of whether they're good or not because they're too… angsty? IDK.
But what about if someone decided to make an AMV on a certain dark theme of OP, like the corruption of the world government, the enormous class difference and/or slavery?
and he answered
it went something like:

I know you're commenting on the song itself, but let me add that as much as I use to watch Juni's videos myself, this one still tops her SND video. She was inspired by this one, after all, and this one is timeless and classic, in both the simplicity of the editing and the way the words make this song seem like it was written for the damn show.
Oh, no, don't get me wrong - stunning editing, but only semi-all right lyrics.
Okay, this is weird, I swore I already posted in this thread but I guess it got deleted with the random spam or something.
Yes, this thread was losing its purpose and was also filled with stupid bullshit.
Short, but sweet.

This is a remix of Eminem's Rabbit Run and One Piece Movie 7 OST Luffy vs Ratchet: Round 1. First time I've seen a pretty decent mix between One Piece and rap.

The lack of The Aquabats One Piece AMV disturbs me.
I think this video needs to be put to a video of all the DF users.
I think they were HEAVILY under the influence of drugs during this song and video. But picture all the Zoans and other df users with this.
I read the whole thread just now.
The only thing that offends me right now…
Rise Against Buttrock? Shut the fuck up! D:
goes off crying in her emo corner Rise Against is not buttrock sniffs
I'm sorry sweetheart, but they're hardcore analrock.
D: no I won't discuss this with you.
First I tought buttrock was that overused lame rock that everyone ears… like Linkin' Park (only worse, because Lynkin' Park is kind of good).
But only then I figured it would be every single piece of music that you don't like... Even Power Metal is buttrock :O.
This thread never ceases to amaze me...
But yeah, stop making those AMV's with shitty music that doesn't fit at all...
Most music that is angry or mopey doesn't seem to fit the OP theme.
I am sort of surprised this song hasn't been put to One Piece.
I think this is by far the worst AMV for putting rock to OP.
It doesn't even open with One Piece. I couldn't finish it.
Rise against are awesome, I don't see what's wrong with them
I think this is by far the worst AMV for putting rock to OP.

Perfect example of what I'm talking about, and a perfect example of buttrock.
Trapt AND Breaking Benjamin? Yes…that is VERY buttrock. Trapt alone...CHRIST.
Also, Nami. I like Rise Against, too. It is pretty much buttrock. Not Trapt or Breaking Benjamin bad, but buttrock.
People. It's not bad (in the opinions of certain people including me) to like buttrock. The issue at hand is to put music that suits One Piece.
Lets set up some guidelines, huh?
-Music vs Emotion of Anime.
! Music must suit the feel and emotion of the series and/or situation of the series. Before making an AMV, TRULY understand the emotion behind the series and/or situation.
-Timing is very important.
! IF YOU AREN'T GOOD AT EDITTING, DON'T MAKE AMVs!
! If people wanted to watch anime with music playing in the background, they'd do it themselves. Time the scenes with the beat. If the beat gives a certain at UMF a certain moment, show THE RIGHT moment for that blast.
! For example, that Cookie Monster scream happening during the character duck walk. Granted, that's also an example of music not matching the series/situation (nothing like stupid looking filler ninjas matching random screaming). That Cookie Monster scream could have used a good connection, like Luffy punching someone in the face HARD or the RAPID destruction of something huge (like a building).
-Stop playing with the lyrics.
! I don't care that "The Red" by Chevelle has the song using the lyric "seeing red". That doesn't mean you should tint the screen red while Luffy is pissed off and beating the shit out of a random person (Vivi, I'll forgive).
! No, it's not clever that you mixed Malchik Gay to make it look like Nami is jealous that Luffy and Zoro have a gay relationship. Stop having fake moments where Nami is glaring in one direction, and making it look like she's glaring at Luffy and Zoro having a piggy back moment.
! Also, stop writing the lyrics on the AMV themselves. They do not add to dramatic effect.
! All these moments do is make us roll our eyes and go to a different video on YouTube. Lyrics to songs exist on there own. We will look them up if we want to. If the fit with the situation of the song, GREAT. But if they fit with the exact scene, like Garp turning his back to "Perfect" by Simple Plan's lyric of "Please don't turn your back"…..you make me want to vomit.
-Stop repeating scenes.
! Pretty self-explanitory. Nothing drives me crazier than when I see the same moment about three times in one AMV. First off, if your using a character like Luffy, YOU HAVE FORTY BILLION SCENES YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM!
! If there aren't enough scenes of that character, you should probably stop because there is a good chance you won't be able to pull the AMV off.
! Which leads to my next point…
-Stop using subtitled video.
! Seriously. This is a mix of audio and video meant to draw an emotion from us through connection of music and an anime. Subtitles are so fucking distracting first off…
! But more importantly, it shows how little effort a person put in on the video. RAW is not hard to find. I promise you.
! And if you cut out subtitles (making the scene look wide screen), then PLEASE keep it consistent.
-KEEP FOCUS
! How many times have I watched an AMV that had a focus on Luffy fighting someone, but then the person ran out of scenes and just RANDOMLY showed Zoro fighting someone, and then followed that up with Luffy fighting the previous person, allowing it to end with the scene it was supposed to work with in the first place.
! If this is about Luffy, stop showing Ussop and Chopper jerking off on the side. This is an AMV about Luffy. MAYBE if it's Ussop and Chopper admiring their captain, MAAAAAAAAAAYBE. But you better know how to make that work.
Let's test this out, shall we?
! 4bcFDs9r3J4
! Simple Plan is a PRIME example of buttrock. It's fun to find bad AMVs. You just YouTube search 'One Piece Simple Plan', and the 'Crappy AMV' restaurant has just given you their menu.
! -Music vs Emotion of Anime:
! Admittedly, it's far more bouncy, allowing it to POSSIBLY fit in with One Piece. However, Pierre Bouvier has the winiest fucking voice EVER! Plus, this song is HORRIBLE! Please, say 'shut up' a few more times.
! This song just has the theme of, "Hi, I'm a piece shit like teenage fuck who is so pissed off because Mommy told me to clean up my room, so instead, I'm gonna sulk in the corner of the room until she lets me go to the Good Charlotte concert". That just SCREAMS One Piece, doesn't it? No, it doesn't. Granted, One Piece is fun and goofy, but it is very much a story of becoming a man and standing up for yourself. It's being a provider and a legend, and not so much a pain in the ass.
! This does NOT fit One Piece, at all. MISS.
! -Timing
! >! This video pretty much has ZERO timing. Stuff just happens while the music goes on. Zoro and Luffy talking? RANDOM MUSIC! Luffy playing baseball? RANDOM MUSIC!
! The only thing that was well timed was Luffy getting his head smashed into a table at "1:52". One thing? YAY! Plus, the "bring me down" lyric next to it makes me fucking shudder in disgust.
! This video is not editted. Everything is just scenes cut up and put next to each other to make something that RESEMBLES a flowing connection of scenes. Let's be honest. This person likes this song, likes One Piece, and put the two together with some random scenes.
! MISS
! -Leave lyrics alone!
! >! No written lyrics and no making up your own story using the lyrics. Yay?
! But seriously, I could tell that this person mixed up certain moments of the song with certain scenes.
! Nami screaming during the "Shut up" chorus of the song. And cleaDidrly, this person wanted to mix in some fight scenes with the chorus too.
! I will admit that the person didn't really care much about the lyrics, that IS kind of a fault for it. It's a stupid song, so really, I'm glad the person didn't do much.
! Somewhat HIT.
! -Repeating scenes
! >! Didn't notice any. YAY!
! HIT!
! -Stop using subtitles
! >! Please tell me you can watch this video and see HOW horrible subtitles can make AMVs look? I mean…some of them block half of the fucking screen.
! Yeah, this video has a fuck load of subtitles.
! SUPER MISS!
! AND THEN COMES THE BIG ONE:
-Focus?
! >! WHAT FOCUS? THIS AMV HAS NO FUCKING FOCUS!
! The first minute and six seconds we go from:
-The crew on a ship with a giant dolphin splashing around.
-The crew playing baseball.
-Nami randomly screaming during baseball (no crying in baseball)
-Ussop crying.
-The crew playing soccer.
-Zoro killing a giant lobster.
-Luffy and Blackbeard eating pie.
! WHAT!?! That had NO consistency! If you want to make a video of the crew being optimistically fun, then have a video of them being together, running together, and staring at the sunset. The moment you start showing Paula and Mr. 2 having a conversation, CONSISTENCY GONE!
! This is just random….STUFF! This has zero meaning! It's like someone took random scenes from the anime and threw it in a blender. All this serves as is showing RANDOM moments of the anime without any real connection.
! FAILED HORRIBLY!
! SUMMARY:
! >! So what do we get from this AMV? Absolutely nothing.
! Look at the comments below this piece of shit. They match the creative brillaince that goes with the AMV.
! > this is so funnychah!
awesome!! P.S. SANJI-KUN KAWAII!!!
Great!!! One Piece rocks.(plus Nami's cute plush)
! These comments are making me plush.
! This is embarrassing. I'm sorry. I don't want to be mean, but this has NO creative identity behind it. They took a song, they took clips of the anime, and the mixed em' up. And people are praising this as a good AMV.
! If you've above this borderline of bad, GOOD. Keep aiming higher though.
! Even if this AMV used this song, it COULD have been good. With the proper editting and appeal, any AMV with ANY crappy song COULD BE GOOD. THIS has no effort to it. THIS is what is wrong with 80% of AMVs.
Whoa, now that was in depth. Be careful now, you'll get people throwing all sorts of videos at you to critique.
I'm really tempted to find some country music that might fit.
nowait, found some

Post-Grunge is the most buttrock genre on earth. Trapt, Creed, Nickleback, Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd etc.
Horrible as well.
I don't even know how anyone connected it to grunge. Seriously, when did
become Nickelback?wait, nickelback is grunge?
since when the fuck did that happen?
puddle of mudd and creed maybe, but not that filth
@dirt:
wait, nickelback is grunge?
No, their Post-grunge.
Which is basically another way to say "Kurt Cobain idolizers who can't write songs for shit".
Not grunge, but a genre of suck that apparently developed from it.
Or at least their first two albums were. I don't even know what the fuck their others are.
But yeah, I really don't see the link between Love Battery, Melvins, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, etc. and Trapt, Staind, Seether, Nickelback, etc.
