If you consider me a total stranger , then by Crickey , you haven't been to this thread too often :ninja:
Kind of a weak chapter compared to the rest we've gotten in previous weeks. I'm sure most people were "amazed" with it since it solely featured Gazille. If it featured any other character (Gray, Lucy, etc.) I'm sure this chapter would have a backlash. A big backlash.
What annoyed me about this chapter was the lack of story progression. That and the whole "i can't hear him, so i must not be able to see him at the same time".
But it was nice to see to appearingly weaker members of GH dish out that kind of damage. Hopefully GH will not be taken down so easily.
LOL opinions
dan, I suggest you read it for yourself and pass your own judgment. To get the most enjoyment out of this series, watch the first 51 episodes of the anime. Besides the first ten episodes, the anime is superior to the manga in literally every way. (Besides a few plot points being unmentioned, as the anime was only slated to be 48 episodes long) Then, you can be spared the horror and skip to about Chapter 201 and read from there.
I really liked this chapter. Levy's fighting was pretty decent for me, but still not much. The iron word was a nice moment. The last page is like a little promise that the next chapter will be awesome. I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, the Edoras arc was fine. Members who post in this thread are just overly critical. Fairy Tail is a fantastic series and rarely disappoints me, which is why it's one of my favorites. If you guys don't like it fine but what's your need to tear down the series for people who do? Nobody really wants to read why you think the series is bad, you're only attempting to start a flame war.
But again, anyone who hasn't read it should just read it on their own to form their own opinion of it. I have no interest in participating in another one of these debates :P
How are
! cats ruling over mankind , which was a lie to begin with fine ? :P
I think the reason the scam worked so well was because the Exceed could use Magic internally, whereas the Citizens of Edolas cannot. Although the only magic they could use is Aera, the citizens didn't know that, and thus feared them.
At least, that's what I got. They could've explained that better.
Yeah, I had no problem with that plot device. I mean if you have a whole island floating the sky and creatures that can use magic who say they're superior to you, the citizens would naturally fear that. That was the whole reason Faust built the dragon robot and the grappling chain, to tear them down from the sky because he wanted to rule over them. The whole arc did well for itself
@No:

Because, drum roll please, it's a story.
In my opinion the arcs that consist of Fairy Tail have been decent, not as dreadfully bad as some hear make it out to be. The Tower of Heaven arc gets alot of shit cause it was too much Erza and Gerad, but the Assasian Guild that was there was interesting. Juvia's interaction with Lucy was good too.
The Edolas arc was also pretty well done, it just gets alot of shit here cause it didn't go the way people wanted.
If you want a true opinion that isn't riddled with such hateful bullshit go to a real Fairy Tail Forum. I've found that it's the only place to have an intelligent convo about the topic.
Honestly I'm not as phased as I was before . Stil it dragged the whole arc so deep into shit :P
And I'm mostly making fun of it these days . ….Unless Hiro does something like the....thing concerning Erza this arc . And I am actualy positive about this arc .
i still can't wait to see whose body natsu and kana were crying over in charle's vision.
I kinda have this theory Hades and Makarov may fight, and the result may be Makarov's death (after defeating him of course). They've kinda been building up to a new guild master, and if Makarov becomes the dumbledore of the series it'll only build to his character.
Unless of course Natsu was crying about losing to Gildartz, and Kana loses because she fails the trial :P lol
The Edolas arc was 50/50 for me, I liked half of it and half of it I didn't like. I still say Hughes and Zeref are one in the same.
not all the exceed were bad, we got pantherlily =P
Well I decided to start reading and am already up to volume 4.
And my opinion is…I like it...quite a bit actually.
The humour is well done, the characters are simple but entertaining.
A good read to pass the time.
I hear the anime aint so hot though, which is a shame.

Backwards. The anime is what makes this storyline tolerable to a lot of people that would hate it otherwise. That is to say, the anime is actually a lot better than the manga.

Bullshit.
How is it our fault when this series sucks?
You can look at it how you want, but mashima has an incredible talent at introducing interesting ideas for arcs, but ends up going the generic route. Edolas was full of possibilities to create unique scenarios with the parallel dimension concept, but It got trashed early and turned into the boring sea of mediocrity that it always was. Same goes for Nirvana, which was a huge disapointment too, because It looked like the plot device would finally force mashima to try something different and introduce new and exciting ideas, like maybe forcing good friends to fight each other. But in the end, maybe 2-3 characters were seriously affected by it, even worse, characters nobody gives a shit about (Hoteye and that chick nobody cared about)

Oh, I've basically heard the exact opposite.
Matter of opinion, I suppose.
More like a matter of fixing Hiro's arsepulls to a decree .

Basically, the only bad thing about the anime is that is censors blood and stuff. But if you get past that, there are a lot of funny scenes and they stupid parts of the manga are done better.
I like them both overall the same, but I admit the Oracion Seis is looking far better in the anime so far.
Natsu smacking his face on the tree branch in the latest episode was pretty funny. Just contemplating the dragons and then BAM!
The anime's much more watchable now that they're using their budget on something other than the seiyuu and music.
I've finished watching the latest episode and one key point that I've been paying close attention to is Racer's "speed":
! -Racer notes that retrieving Jellal's body will take him an hour but doesn't specify that he raced halfway around the world to get it.
-Brain's contemplates that Racer is the fastest one around.
-Racer also notes that retrieving Jellal's body put a big strain on him and took him longer to get back.
-When Jellal was found, Brain notes that he was covered in a magic substance called "Endonana" (preservative magic?).
I'm not sure if that helps close the major plothole that was prevalent in the Oracion Seis arc in the manga though.
Another decent episode. 2 chapters. Looks like that's the norm now.
Seems like they are going to show the fights against the other guilds that were only implied in next week's episode. Hopefully anyway ^^
Basically, the only bad thing about the anime is that is censors blood and stuff. But if you get past that, there are a lot of funny scenes and they stupid parts of the manga are done better.
So essentially the anime ups the comedy while toning down the violence.
Hmm that actually suits me better. I honestly prefer the comedy to the action in the manga anyway.
@Dan: The anime is pretty bad up until about the end of Galuna Island. Then, it surpasses the manga in quality thereafter.
If not for the first 16 episodes or so being pretty bad, I'd definitely recommend the anime over the manga.
^ Pretty much this.
The first episodes were pretty poor, and the first season at times moves way too fast… But overall I do find it more enjoyable than the manga.
Basically, the only bad thing about the anime is that is censors blood and stuff.
The One Piece anime does this as well. It's not unheard of.
One Piece still has plenty of blood though. The Fairy Tail anime literally has no blood to speak of, only scuff marks. The closest they've gotten to actual blood was the aftermath of Natsu's fight with Gajeel, where the scuff marks were in the same pattern as blood running down a person's face would be.

Think of the anime as an abridged series. The manga's better to read first for the serious tone and elements of awesomeness, and then the anime chops it all up and doesn't take itself seriously at all. The anime's not the worst thing in the world, but the manga is definitely the better experience. And I'm glad you like the series. It only gets better from where you're at.
Edit: Also, just watched the new episode of the anime. Is it just me or is Brain more… serious looking in the anime? In the manga he always had this kinda dumb look on his face and his hair was kinda messed up. But in the anime he seems more collected and menacing looking.

I digress. Despite the censorship, the anime is pretty much superior.
Fairy Tail is one of the few series where I've enjoyed the filler material over the canon material too.
if i couldn't have any good Devil Fruit, then mage powers in fairy tail would be my next option of fictional powers to obtain.
probably something like gray's ice power. white christmas every year baby!

I could live with no blood, but Fairy Tail anime censors even guns. The edits and changes that i keep hearing of are borderline 4kids material.
Yeah, the anime still fails in several elements. The parts they remove from the story and sketches that are cut out are annoying, and despite the level of humor the anime does indeed bring, the manga's is still superior. The censorship is terrible, the removal of story elements is annoying, the humor is way different from the manga's, and scenes that were meant to be serious or epic are obscured or in some cases completely ruined (though admittedly that mostly occurred in the first season). The anime's unique humor and soundtrack are the only things that give it an edge and make it worth watching. And of course the filler.
So yeah, we're going to have to continue to disagree. To me the anime can never rise to the level the manga's at, which is why I always discourage people from watching the anime before reading the manga of this series.
The censorship is terrible
No it's not. It's barely noticeable and it's a show about MAGIC.
the removal of story elements is annoying,
Yet the anime was originally slated to only run 48 episodes. Most of these cut scenes were re-inserted.
the humor is way different from the manga's,
I take it you are referring to the clothes gags for both Gray AND Lucy, which are hardly funny :\
and scenes that were meant to be serious or epic are obscured or in some cases completely ruined
Examples?
The anime's unique humor and soundtrack are the only things that give it an edge and make it worth watching. And of course the filler.
Not to mention the voicework and the anime team's ability to fix Mashima's plotholes. The ONLY issue with the anime was its rocky start and the relatively rushed Laxus arc.
I read Mashima manages to get 7 hours of sleep per day. Mangakas considered that a lot. LOL. Japanese are workalcoholic.
i wonder how much time Oda sleeps per day. I am pretty sure Kishi sleeps the less because he is not planning anymore.
Alright, this is the road we're taking huh? Very well, I accept.
No it's not. It's barely noticeable and it's a show about MAGIC.
You're right, Gray complaining about sealing a non-exsistant wound isn't noticeable. Or how about the time he grabbed Erza's sword and everyone freaked out. Were they suppose to freak out because he was showing… CHEEK?! No, they freaked out because he busted his own hand open to show how important it was. The fact is, you get hurt when you fight. In anime, characters beat themselves to near death in fights. Even magic can leave you in horrible conditions, as the series proved in the manga. Even someone who has never read the manga can tell when scenes are obviously being censored. It's very noticeable, and even in a show about magic, they do not get away with it.
I take it you are referring to the clothes gags for both Gray AND Lucy, which are hardly funny :\
Actually I'm referring to the fact that it's simply more mature in the manga. Taurus for example has rarely kept his original script from the manga to the anime, and he's one of the manga's funniest characters. Even really minor jokes were hilarious in the manga and the anime just straight up removed them. Off the top of my head I loved the sketch of Gazille and Lucy when he asked her to be his dancer girl, or when he tied up Mirajane before going on stage. I was so glad to see they finally added in the episode of Lucy and the reporter, then upset when she was up there in the bunny suit and they STILL didn't do the joke. I've already stated the anime adds it's own humor, but that in no way makes it superior to the manga's. On the contrary, the manga is indeed still funnier.
Examples?
Sure, where to start. How about the scene where Natsu informed Erza he was gonna challenge her when they got back to the guild. When you're first reading fairy tail this is a huge deal. She's super strong, Natsu wants a rematch, you feel as if something good's gonna happen. In the anime "lol let's play goofy music and make natsu look dumb. He always challenges Erza." Next, Gazille is a sadistic ass. He's not only into violence, he wants to make people fear him. Thus he throws knives at Lucy and laughed at the faces she made as he got closer and closer to hitting her. Anime: Nah, let's just kick her around a few times. Or how about the Tower of Paradise? If the kids from the manga seen how the kids in the anime were being treated, they'd trade places in a heartbeat. A few shocks versus violently being torched? Yeah, I'd make the same trade myself. This goes back to the censorship, which has successfully toned down several/near all the epic moments the series has had to offer. Natsu and Gazille versus Luxus was much more intense in the manga, and Fairy Law was a jaw dropper. Neither of these carried over, the anime changed the whole fight into something much less interesting, gave Gazille a much minor role, and made the Fairy Law nowhere near as intense. And when Gazille revealed he was a double agent in the manga, you go "OMG!!!!" But in the anime it's more like "oh, btw, here ya go." "Oh, kthnx Gazille. Now go away." The anime can simply not provide you with the same epic or freakout factor, it tones itself down way too much.
Not to mention the voicework and the anime team's ability to fix Mashima's plotholes. The ONLY issue with the anime was its rocky start and the relatively rushed Laxus arc.
Look, I'm willing to admit the anime has it bonuses, and it's only getting better. The Nirvana arc is already far more enjoyable being animated, and they're only adding to the amazing soundtrack. I do like the anime, and I like the humor it does provide. I think things are well animated, and overall it does a good job for itself. I just believe you can enjoy the anime more if you've read the manga first, because then it's like seeing to sides to the same story. I honestly had no intention of debating this, but you're one of the few posters on this forum I actually respect so I thought you deserved the courtesy of a well thought out reply. If you wish to continue this further be my guest, but I think we've both made our points. And I do respect what you have to say and your opinion; we've been posting on this forum about the same time and we usually agree on most things. That's why I said we'll just have to disagree on this subject, because I don't believe either of us will influence the other's opinions :P lol. Hopefully there's no hard feelings from this.

No, no, no hard feelings. :p To be honest, I hadn't really noticed most of the edits and whatnot. So, I do thank you for posting them. Maybe I'm being too hard on the manga, though, so that's moreso my bad than anything.
However, to be fair, I agree with you when it comes to the Laxus fight's flubs in the anime. As stated, it's obvious that they were trying to end the series by the 48th episode, so they just kind of rushed past the epic stuff.
Seems like they are going to show the fights against the other guilds that were only implied in next week's episode. Hopefully anyway ^^
I sure as hell hope they show the groups fighting off those sub guilds, that was one of the most dissapointing parts of the arc in the manga. Sub Guilds show up, sweet, off paneled next chapter, ffffffffffffffuuuuuUuu!!!!!!!

I'm taking brain a little more seriously this time around in the manga he was more of a joke character to me.

Well going off memory alone, didn't he always look nervous and even have sweat lines in nearly every panel he appeared in? I might be wrong since this was the least memorable arc, but I'm kinda like you were in that I only seen him as a joke character.

not sure what plot holes we had, so far for the most part fairy tail in my opinion has not done anything bad enough to merit worry about at all
as for racer, the only thing i found weird was, how it was mad eto show his speed early on by getting jellal, which would aquire him to run however far he needed to and come back. no matter how you spin it, 10 miles away is 10 miles away.
so then later when we find out that he isn't some "the Flash" but instead just slows thing down in his radius, that questions "how come he is so fast getting jellal? I'm sure he is fast regardless of his special trickery speed, but nothing insane that those people should be going OMG over him getting a body some say 10 miles away as i said earlier.
Well going off memory alone, didn't he always look nervous and even have sweat lines in nearly every panel he appeared in? I might be wrong since this was the least memorable arc, but I'm kinda like you were in that I only seen him as a joke character.
I have the volumes in raw format on my other computer and yeah practically every panel he has a surprised look with sweat running down or he has that clam look with sweat running down making him seem nervous. Maybe that was mashima's intention, to make brain the nervous type and Zero the insane type, I sure do hope the anime makes zero evil.
There was never a really big plothole with Racer in the first place imo, its was just people being confused by the reveal of what his actual powers were. In the manga they never revealed how far Racer had to go to get his body he just said it would take him an hour to get it.
As for the censorship with the anime thats due to the timeslot it occupies. IIRC its shown pretty early like at 11 am in Japan.
I don't think they would be showing blood and stuff that early during kids block_________ time.
That explains why i'm able to see a subbed version of it PST at 8 am on monday.

If he was at least fast, it would make sense for him to be able to run on the water. Racer throws out motorcycles not boats.
What's worse, you knew the entire area of the OS arc was a huge ass forest/ moutain area because of Nirvana. Do you see an indicator of an ocean?

C'mon son.
Still a plothole. Still a shitty arc.
Carry on. :)
it's not a plothole that matters, racer is old news and most fans i know have forgotten about him anyways.
even if it is a plothole, it's so insignificant that it doesn't affect my reading experience at all :)

His power is to slow down the area around him. I'm assuming that would include the environment (the water), too.
If you're going to argue a plothole, argue that Gray's projectile would have slowed down once it hit Racer's sphere of influence and he would've noticed it before it hit him, or some other such nonsense.
Seriously, the biggest OS Arc plothole was Hibiki's magic. Dude had access to an archive of any spell in the universe. He could have pulled out "Super Secret Ultimate Oblieration Spell" against Brain/Zero and have won the fight for them, but instead, they use a powerful spell to defeat… Angel? Really?
It's not a plothole if its in the past or concerning a character I don't like!
In other news, Bleach is an awesome series. Aizen? Arrancar arc? I don't know what you're talking about

At least Hibiki got to do something unlike Eve and Ren
