i completely agree with you, both about the strawhat being Rogers, and about Kishido being a dick
Chapter 603: "Keep it in Your Heart" Discussion

Shonen main character gets trained by powerful mentor figure and has powerful lineage???? :wassat::sad::getlost::sad:
Excatly, its repeated in all the shounen and i really hoped that oda would be different. well im hoping that he surprises up in the second half
-
@JaN:
ok I can't remember clearly but didn't Rayleigh once told that Roger had the power to listen to all the things around him?
The power to hear the voice of all things.
Don't take it too litterally.
-
No I don't think and in my eyes it becomes clearly better. OK I don't like that Luffy/Roger similarity but that's just a minor thing.
In total the manga became even better with all this new relationship and hidden storyline which has to be revelead
What I like was it has been hinted at before though.
Like when Gan Fall said Luffy was a lot like Roger or when Kokoro already started calling him the pirate king.
Subtle hints being dropped here and there.
-
Luffy wanted to become a pirate mainly due to Shanks. Shanks gave him the hat.
We can assume that Shanks wanted to become a pirate because of Roger. Roger, we assume, gave him the hat and Shanks joined his crew.I have no problem with this kind of symbolism.
If Luffy took after his father or grandfather, he'd be a revolutionary or marine respectively.
And the whole point of the last two years was that Luffy couldn't just vamp it in the New World with what techniques he thought up along the way.
-
I had always thought that the Logia users were related to an raw element. But I could be overlooking a character. There's so many characters. Mud can work well as a way of cementing in someone though.
just 2 word…. WANK ,CUM! JUST A JOKE, i also think it could be cement, who knows, since i saw the power of hanging out the clean cloth and the woman that made cages it could be anithing.... even cow milk!

Luffy has never stopped working hard with his crew. Here's a newsflash though, he needed to be trained.
I have nothing against you, but your opinion seems to come down to "I want them to be the underdogs".
In a way, the Straw Hats are still the underdogs (I.E. not close to admiral level), but if this last arc (the war) has shown us anything, it's that Luffy was far too weak to save anyone. Which could have lost him his crew and did lose him his brother.
The SHs needed this timeskip to become stronger. They wouldn't have lasted in the New World if they didn't have these 2 years. They won't be one-shotting every enemy that comes their way now, but they'll at least stand a chance now.
Give it time, you'll see Oda still knows what he's doing.
This, essentially.
Oda had been building up for the training timeskip for a while now, actually - you saw the SHs barely scrape by and mostly because of pure luck. It would have been lame had the SHs had to scrape by in every arc just because they were lucky. That would just be bad writing.Think about it as real life. If you drop out of high school and don't go to college there's only so far you can go with hard work. If you're REALLY lucky you can get past that and become successful, but chances are you're eventually going to have to go back to college and get a degree if you want to make a good amount of money.
It's the same with the SHs; they had to go back to training because as seen on Saobody and Marineford, they couldn't depend on luck any longer. -

Boy adventures in general are always about learning from the best and surpassing them. If you wanna blame that sort of story arc you gotta blame testosterone. Guys like to prove themselves as being the best.
-
OK… Goodbye. Read awesome Naruto or Bleach
Ahah! Great!
Live with it little longer. Oda will show you awesome stuff that you never been thinking of next time.
Great x2!
-
Uh…are we reading the same stuff?
Luffy worked hard, hell, he trained for two whole years because he couldn't do any shit in the war. And it isn't unusual to train under a mentor to become quite stronger, especially in a shonen.
Am I alone in thinking that, besides the strawhat, Roger resembles more Ace than Luffy?
-

but no-one else who goes to the new world gets to train with the best of the best, it also makes me wonder how the roger crew became so strong if they never had anyone to help them to this extent.
im not as dissapionted with the training as i am with the straw hat being rogers. -
How does, Roger having the Strawhat a bad thing for you?
You didn't explain that.

No offense broseph, but you'd have to be a fucking idiot to think One Piece is something else than extremely formulaic
Wait no I take that back sorry, of course offense

im not as dissapionted with the training as i am with the straw hat being rogers. No one else going to the new world was marked for death because they had the son of dragon and a woman who can read poneglyphs on their crew.

-
Roger, the Pirate King, wore a straw hat.
Luffy, the future Pirate King, who has been constantly commented upon as being like Roger, has a straw hat.
It's called parallels.
-
im just saying that i am dissapionted form how things turned out, i suppose alot of you are not though. i still ove this comic and that ll never change
-
hey the strawhat that shanks passed on to luffy …was it by any chance given by roger and rogers younger versions way better than the older version .......
-
i dont get it… how does a strawhat being passed down possibly ruin anything for u...being passed down by roger is not okay, but being passed down by shanks is? Also, he only learned to use Haki, not like he was trained to use his fruit in killer ways.
if u want a manga that shows a boy with no help or anything, then the moment luffy was shown with shanks you shoulda disliked the manga.
if you want a manga that shows a boy have absolutely no connection with a person who shares the same middle name in any way, you should have disliked the manga when they talked about D.
i think ur just complaining for no good reason.

im not as dissapionted with the training as i am with the straw hat being rogers. The New World wasn't that crowded with other pirates back then than it is nowadays.
Sure, it is a dangerous sea to travel through but the danger lies more in nature than in other pirates.(at least that's my assumption since the Great Pirat Age started after Roger's death)
-

You're basically disappointed that a shonen comic is being shonen.
Have you not read any of oda's interviews.
-
We haven`t often seen Luffy training in the whole story.
Actually we only saw Zoro training the whole time ,while Luffy always came up with new techniques out of nothing\offscreen.
So the concept of Luffy achieving his dream alone without any help was always kind of..far fetched.
I actually liked that he failed so bad..showed how big Luffy dreamed as a little kid and that the "real" world showed him his borders, which he now overstepped via a hard training. -
i think this guy just wants luffy to die in the next few chapters and for Oda to shift focus to someone else.
-
@bartholemew:

im not as dissapionted with the training as i am with the straw hat being rogers.Roger gave it to Red Air, Red Air gave it to Luffy, Now? This is only an Hat, not the power of the world and the fkin solution of the manga, it is "only" an hat and a promise.
Roger got a lot of friends because he was a cool and great friend, he was helped for sure in the past too… -
It was directed a this, actually
read the majority of post from people who joined in 2010 in this thread onlone and tell me im not right i said in a difrent post its not all 2010 posters but its allot of them and bad post stand out more than good ones and its not just this thread another thread i visit has had the same problem there just seems to be something about 2010

no need for insults, or spamming, if anyone thinks this thread is pointless they can go ahead and deltle it, i said what i have to say.

this thread is pointless, you are pointless, your opinion is pointless, you don't get what one piece is about.

Yes, u r old… :w00t:

Who gave the straw hat to roger?
Now that is the the question
-
First off, thnx for this thread. It made me really think about why i love this manga.
- it shows you that the difference in power is no joke (unlike bleach, ichigo beating zenpachi without a friggin' bankai)
- he, Oda, doesn't let luffy be trained a trillion times (naruto) but so far only once, and just because he was obliterated with his crew.
And let's be honest here, shure i would love it if luffy kept owning everybody in his way like he did from east blue till cp9, but isn't beter that he was defeated on shabondy because the difference is too great?
Must admit though, i hated the fact that he was powerless, i hated that he was defeated, but in the end, i see it was very important that he got defeated. Otherwise it would be just like dbz with goku owning everyone in his path.to sum it up, because this and that, one piece is unique so far in my opinion.
it's a good thing though you're still enjoying the manga :) -
what a stupid reason.
-

God himself, isn't that obvious

this was the most pointless thing ever posted here.
but i'm prolly an idiot for responding to a troll. -
Also remember that Roger became the PK after decades of being a pirate. Brook mentioned there being a rookie named Roger about 50 years ago (which makes sense since Newgate was 22 during the Rumbar Pirates entered the Grand Line) and yet Roger only became the PK a year before he died. That's going on 30 years of pirate experience that Roger gathered to get to his legendary status. Luffy's only 19. Unless Oda wants to skip tons of adventures and decades of Luffy's life before he becomes PK, then Luffy needs some extra help to get to the top faster than Roger did.

then again i never seen bleach or naruto.
i guess thats true -
I can kinda see where you're coming from. I didn't like Luffy being related to Dragon or Garp at first either. But Oda has been careful not to show Luffy being strong because of his bloodline or anything like that. If he became who he is because of his bloodline I could understand your frustration, but he hasn't. He's as strong as he is because he's been training since an extremely young age etc.

We got a major problem here. Let me explain, it's like this:
A new year, a new generation. Mostly 90% are stupid dumbfucks who at the end of the year get banned or leave. Well then the other new generation comes… And it goes like that into a infinite loop.

@bartholemew:
from the moment i started reading one piece and i have enjoyed the anga immensly. it is still my favorite manga of all time, but recently it is beggining to become a little dissapionting..
let me explainthis show was supposed to be about a boy who wanted to become king of the pirates, working his way up to become that of what he wants to achieve, gathering a crew and pushing through hardships.
but now that the strawhat turns out to be rogers, reiliegh "forgive spelling" trains him. ace being his step-brother. dragon his dad. garp his grandad.
all strong people near him if you get what i mean (think of naruto for instance) so it is becoming more like he was destined to become the king no matter what happened.
i am not very good in english but i hope i have delivered my point here.i wanted luffy to become the king by working hard with him and his team, thinking of ways to improve himself "gear 2 & 3" not meet the strongest and train with them.
then what puts it over the top, the strawhat used to be rogers. that right there just ruined what oda has been building for 13 years. my oppinion only
I know exactly how you feel buddy for the past two years or so i've felt the same way though let me tell you how I got over it. There are some things that make it better. Such as the fact that Luffy grew up in a slummish place and had two brothers. Both of who were much stronger than him. So it's not like his lineage is what makes him so great. Garp is the hero of the marines but not the fleet admiral and he doesn't always accomplish his goal.
Dragon maybe the worlds most wanted man but he's still opposing the goverment and having a hard time if you ask me. So though his folks may be great there only human. What made me happy was the fact that Luffy's father wasn't Rogers but instead someone unconnected to the pirate world. I mean the real son of Rogers just died so it's not like lineage is the only thing that matters, Ace was weaker than Marco and Jozu. The strawhat means nothing except he has a badass trademark. I agree I enjoyed the show when I thought that it was just this guy named Luffy but you can still see the show like that.
Luffy doesn't care about all that stuff. The guy climbed a mountain with sanji in his teeth. It's not like he has it easy or something. He has it the same as the other pirates. I believe Oda shows us that often in the manga. I like to think all the stuff that has helped Luffy is limited and that he makes his own fate. The only way luffy has been helped by his father was Kuma's constant interference and Dragon stepping in on louge town. Shanks has only helped Luffy when he was a kid the hat means nothing. The only significance it has was the way Luffy felt when Shanks gave him the hat. Luffy developed Haoushoku haki on his own and made Boa fall in love with him on his own because he's a fun and nice guy.
One Piece is the same as it's always been don't let the big things sweat you underneath it's still Luffy. Even though his face may be rounded it's still luffy

Do the Caribros share a ship or are they using Cariboo's (since it has a Caribou head) to chase the SH only?

Every year five good posters made the step to be precious constant posters here, since 2009.
Before that the rate was extremly higher.
Maybe good new posters are already afraid because they see those 95% crapposters which are landing here every year and out of those it`s hard to see the gold shining.
You have to be trained to look over the trolls to find here a friend and those guys\girls who are actually here to discuss something and not to fanfic you with shit. -
i completely agree with you, both about the strawhat being Rogers, and about Kishido being a dick
^^ This ^^
I completely see where you're coming from too, but I feel that when the series settles back down into relative normality after the crew has been re-united for 15-20 chapters the old magic will come back to the series.
I was a bit bummed about the similarities with Roger too, but I also trust Oda to make good the story behind it, as he has done every other time i've doubted him.
Golden Rule = NEVER DOUBT ODA!
