Wait isn't that by the same person who did "Abstraction" and "A death of a certain hero" ?
The later of which is about human whales - aka mostly gigantic dumb naked women being breeded by inteligent reptiles that in no way actualy resemble whales .

I suspect that Kago is sexually paranoid.
I have read many of his works, including the one described by Stephen, but the above is sickest in the sense of fart and penis joke. There are many thing sicker morally, but, well, they belongs to to the guro genre. -
20th Century Boys. I wasted a lot of money and time on that piece of shit, just to get the world's lamest conclusion.

The first volumes are good…But then it get worst and worst u_u. (Volume 12 or 13 should have been the last).
-
That's why I said I wasted a lot of money on it. I thought the first couple of volumes were not only good but absolutely fantastic. It's a shame how the story turned out.
-
Urusawa has a very bad reputation of starting off with fantastic beginnings and strong middles but terrible and anti-climactic endings. A real shame.
-
I wouldn't say he has a reputation for it.
Master Keaton and Monster are perfectly fine. Monster itself is basically flawless from a directorial standpoint.
But after Monster, he got himself into a definite rut. 20th Century Boys second half doesn't really compare, aside from some choice scenes, and Pluto was a mess before it even happened
! For example, Gesicht always had to die in the storyline. In Pluto, nobody ever at any point steps up after his death to 'take over'. This was always something that had to happen, but Urasawa went with it anyways and, due to some bad writing I guess, never actually found a protagonist to see the rest of the series through. Atom certainly didn't "do" it. Not to mention it very quickly loses any kind of heart, or soul. It was just … without humanity, which is the biggest fucking irony of all.
What breaks the idea that he may spend the rest of his career with strong beginnings and weak middles onward would be Billy Bat.
Because Billy Bat is like some godawful parody from the getgo.
I like to imagine Urasawa can only get better from Billy Bat, but the sole way he can recover from this is to either take a break from manga, or to try a different genre. Because seriously, he… can't do another "mystery/thriller". He just can't.

Monster's ending was just as terrible. We went from an epic attack on high-level bureaucrats to a pointless attack on some dinky back-water town. The main villain in question was saved from being killed by his creator by a subordinate (who should by all means been finished off except that the author wrote himself into a tough spot) only to be taken out by some random drunkard as a cheap way to avoid the main character having to actually make the kill decision once and for all.
-
I don't think you "got" Monster?
I adore the ending. It's perfect for the series. It's the opposite of an anti-climax.
-
And I thought Billy Bat was looking good. . .
And 20th Century Boys isn't THAT bad. The ending is anticlimatic, and some plot points are not really covered as they should have been, but overall, I thought it was one hell of a ride.
For example, as much as I like Monster, I think it dragged a bit too long. . .but, on the other hand, the last chapter was TERRIFIC. The last 3-4 pages sent f*cking shivers down my spine.
And Pluto wasn't terrible either. A lesser work, but not terrible.
-
I remember being every excited in the first half of 20th century boys then yawning all the time with the rest.
Just read some chapters of Billy Bat. Western comic style influenced, in both art and narrative, I suppose. Liked it so far. -
Keep reading Billy Bat. Eventually you'll see.
Before it, it's just sort of the exact same thing Urasawa has done before, all mushed together into a derivative form. Then it just turns fucking stupid. And then it turns into a full blown parody of himself.

what's your name….???
I'M LEE HARVEY OSWALD

You forgot about Death Karate Chops, the Moon, Ninjas, Judas and Jesus.
C'mon, this CANNOT be bad!!!! NEVER!
-
Where did you read Master Keaton, puffy? Bought it or read online? In Japanese or English?
-
I own the tankobons.
The Master Keaton anime has been subbed, though, so you can watch that as an alternative to the manga, if you really want to check it out. From what I remember it was given the same kind of care as Monster's adaptation was.

Yeah sure. Ignore all my points and just say I didn't get its complexity because I'm too dumb. Whatever. I'll just say that the only good thing about that finale was that apology by that kick-ass detective. His confrontation with that Ricardo guy would have also been great if he hadn't been randomly beaten by him off-screen so Ricardo could go act like a pointless deus ex machina.
-
I'm not saying you're dumb, or that Monster is dense and complex (it's definitely rich in characterization and its themes are well-handled, however). But for some reason or another, you seemed to be expecting something that was much different than "Monster". The themes present in the final few chapters were completely in tune with the rest of the series. It… made perfect sense. It was the perfect finale for it.
I'm not really sure what else to say. You called the location a "dinky backwater town" and said it was pointless, you obviously weren't too invested in the series and apparently thought it was something it wasn't.

And the way those themes were executed were boring and anti-climactic. And compared to a terrorist attack against top government officials, going for a random village as an "exciting" finale was just lame. And I don't care what symbolism was going through Johan's head. It doesn't change the fact that it's a serious step down from what we expected from him, the criminal mastermind Monster that everyone wanted a piece of, after all that hype about his potential. Urasawa did a pretty half-hearted effort to actually make us emotionally invested in the random villagers too.
I don't really care to make an argument about this. Especially since I don't need a strike 4 and you're not even countering my points and just making some condescending, generic talk of thematics and expecting too much.
I love this gem though.
@Gigglepuffy:
I'd say it went over your head.
So you're saying I'm dumb but in a nice way. Uh huh. K, bye.
-
I was more stating that you missed the point, which doesn't have much to do with whether you're dumb or not. My apologies for using the phrase "over your head", since I was under the impression it meant something different than "a person out of their element, or league". But anyways:
The problem for me is that there isn't any point to trying to refute your statements. You say you wanted a big, explosive finale compared to what Johan had done before. The problem is, right from the beginning Monster was a story that already had its blueprints completely laid out. From beginning to end, Urasawa knew where it was going to go. A lot of what Johann did either established his character and behaviours, or were schemes that tied into his larger goal of what one could call an existence erasing suicide. Right from the beginning it was all leading up to that "dinky little backwater town" and where it would've gone otherwise I honestly have no idea.
Monster was about the characters really. All the chases and thrills that accompanied it were great, but it wasn't just about that. The finale brought Johann from his elevated status of this monster, of this placed-on-a-pedestal evil genius, and turned him human (right down to who shot him in the end: a nobody). The location of the village was integral to Johan's past, his history, and how he became who he was. It wasn't random and it certainly was not pointless.
I did feel it was exciting. It was tense, it was thrilling, mostly because of how personal everything was now. Before, Johann's schemes were remarkably less so, due to how throughout the series we'd seen a lot of what Johann was doing, but we were never sure completely on the whys. I'll admit it was a load of fun, in a way, just to watch Johan being the conniving bastard that he was. It was a thrilling chase, but where it all ended up was wonderful to me.
Everything in Monster happened for a reason and it was all quite consistent. So I'm sorry you were disappointed that it wasn't a more in your face finale, but if you were disappointed in it period, yet you had enjoyed the series beforehand, the only conclusion I can come to is that you were barely paying any attention at all and thought it was some pulp dickery.

Did you like the ending of the Whitebeard war, Puffy?
-
Yeah, I liked it a lot.

the ending to the war was anti-climatic. IMO

My balls. or Ore Tama.
Yes, it is, what you think right now.
I couldn't even read the first chapter fully…

I got some laughs out of it. Plot was so ridiculous. First few chapters were hilarious. But after a while every chapter had the same structure. The same thing over and over. It lost its novelty, and all whats left is boring fanservice. But i would recommend some chapters for lulz. Just drop it after chapter 8 or so. Or take a loooong break before you continue.

Haha. Well I somehow got past the 1st chapter but stopped at the second. It has the dumbest plot and each chapter was about trying to get the main character to ejaculate. Like you wrote, the novelty does wear off quickly.
-
I finally got to chapter 4. every time you think "it can't get more absurd"… it does get more absurd.
Now I will only read it for the lulz and the fanservice. -

@No:
I have sort of a question . Back on Onemanga I found a jump series about a grandpa scientist who turns himself into a cyborg . I would have continued but the scan had such a horrendous linguistic style that it felt like characters just talk gibberrish to each other . Is it the mangaka's fault or is this just a problem with the scanlation itself ? My recomendation (or lack thereof) would depend on the answer .
You do realize I TLed that series?
And yeah…Cyborg Grandpa G...I mostly did that to see what Obata was like as a mangaka. It's bizarre but I liked it. I just wonder how the frig someone would screw up my scripts...or not get a proofer to make sure it worked.
Besides, I unexpectedly peeved off Linkara with it.
-
Animes i wouldent recommend: Dokuro-chan, KissxSis and chu-bra. OH MY GOD THOSE THREE FREAKING SUCK! dont watch them. just dont.
-
What is wrong with Dokuro-chan, its funny as fuck in my oppinion.

Wait , do tell . I thought he was more the "buy manga casualy when it gets translated" sorta person .
Also , the thing was the scan I read just sounded like none of the characters were actualy talking with each other ,but speaking to themselves all the time , if that makes any sense . I'm realy not sure how that happened , honestly .
Oh and btw you stil translate ? KWorkz were looking for a translator for this weird kodansha title where humans fight giants called Shingeki no Kyojin .

My list of the top 3 mangas that I have ever read and wouldn't recommend would be.
1. Elfen Lied (Not gonna talk about it)
2. Portus (<– Do Not Read)
3. Yakuza Girl (WTF)
and that's about it.
-
I think someone already warned us, but Pretty Face is a big dissappointment. (Literally just got done reading the first 10 chapters)
I thought the plot was interesting and that the content wasn't going to be generically Ecchi. BOY, was I wrong! :getlost:

This thing is just horrific!!!!! I need to wash my eyes… And why is this dwarf naked????
-
Wow @ that opening introduction.
-
"I'm so glad my dick is round."
That was horrific.
-
What…the hell...is that?
-
Who? What? Why? WHY?
No words can describe that…
-
Ah ahhh ahhhhh
What the hell! This manga hurts -
This was so awful it was hilarious.
-
lmao was that mangaka on crack?
Anyway..Rave is certainly a manga I'd never recommend. So is Bleach + post-timeskip Naruto. While Bleach was a manga I read for years it got worse and worse with evey chapter and even though I don't read it anymore I'm positive it can still become crappier.
And Kishimoto obviously didn't know what to do with his characters after the timeskip. The random powerups and constant emoing of the main character didn't really do it for me. Especially after the author screwed up the whole fight-destiny-theme.
Oh and reborn is also dumb as fuck especially with the pokemans and the ambigiously gay looking men in leather pants. Seriously they are getting prettier every goddamn chapter. It was better off as comedy.

-
.. the second title says it all

Anything remotely Loli is just a massive 'No' for me.
