!
I thought adult Sabo would be modeled after him, but Law does bear striking resemblance now that I think about it.
If I remember correctly Enel = an italian electricity company
^^haha it really is Enel .Energy in tune with you
Im sorry if this already brought up Luffy is Captain Barbell

One guy in the comments said something interesting about a few other characters and another said Luffy took that physical appearance of Barbell but was more based on Elasticman or whatever his name is.
I haven't seen any of this so thanks for posting it.
holy shit .

Haha awesome i never seen it befor thanks :D, made me have a good laugh.
I wouldn't be surprised now if after the two year time skip, Luffy is wearing a cape and calling himself "Captain Barbell". lmao.

Now I understand the meaning of the name "Heart pirates", that little necklace is a little bit eccentric but he looks like a cool pirate…i prefer that kind of hat instead the beared one of the manga.

You know that Alf is a real name right? a funny name though :P
I doubt that story is true, but it would be awesome if it was ^^ Vikings were awesome

I read this whole thread, and don't recall ever seeing this before actually, though it could have been said elsewhere on the forums, or before the crash that lost all the original files.
Anyway, it's hillarious that he kept the part of her story where she is impressed and falls for the guy who defeats her. LOL!

I know it was a real name I was referring to this Alf as a joke lol

I've got this notion that Arlong was partly inspired by the Joker's appearance in The Killing Joke, but it doesn't quite match up.
Tropical shirt? Check. Bermuda shorts? Check. Creepy grin? Check. Pistol? Check.
! Point-blank gunshot that traumatizes a nearby character? Check. But Joker's attire is ironic, touristy and dorky. Arlong is just wearing tropical clothes in a tropical place - his outfit looks more like Luffy's than it does Joker's.
Plus he's got a way cooler hat.
I wonder if Oda has a character that was inspired by himself

I think I read somewhere that Shank's personality is based off Oda's.
And you also have Oddachi.
Luffy always reminds me of Huckleberry Finn, infact I'm almost certain that he's loosely based on Mark Twain's legendary protagonist.
Franky, reminds me of a cartoon character that used to air on CN, since I didn't care for the show, I can't recall it's title. However, I do remember the characters were all drawn pretty much like franky: Huge arms, slim waist, and legs and speedos - If i remember correctly the theme of that series revolved around farting.
I'd be surprised if this hasn't been brought up a million times, but isn't Armor Haki pretty similar to Hamon from Jojo?

Oda reading Jojo wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

I seriously hope you are talking about Johnny Bravo.
@Owner:
What's really great about the shirt is that Paulie's shirt in the anime is the same shade of yellow and has a white bulls-eye, which makes it practically the inverse of the model's shirt. Franky is still Popeye to me (note to self: go buy Hulk hands to modify to Franky hands over spring break).
And – correct me if I'm wrong -- POPEYE WAS A FUCKING SAILOR MAN I think we hit the jackpot.
First time the legendary Wolfpox posts anything in months and when he does he lays down the law.
You hear Wolfpox…posting a few months nothing makes you a legend
(have you even noticed the break?..if not you`re actually more lucky than someone like you deserve)

Uhm, that was an SBS, IIRC, and I'm pretty sure it was a blatant joke. Shanks is the character that Oda himself considers the "coolest" in One Piece, so he likes to joke that he's that cool in real life, too.
<though we="" actually="" agree="" with="" him="" on="" that,="" it's="" obvious="" that="" any="" japanese="" saying="" about="" themselves="" would="" either="" be="" joking="" or="" the="" type="" of="" person="" to="" say="" oresama="" all="" time,="" which="" i've="" heard="" a="" select="" few="" do,="" but="" i="" can't="" possibly="" imagine="" oda=""></though>

If memorie serves Oda said that because he loves parties, like Shanks.
Pretty sure Oda would get wasted every time he could in his younger days and then draw the next name or invent the new set of charaters/acrs.

Are you referring to Life of a teenage robot?

Close, but no cigar.
Are you referring to Life of a teenage robot?
Nope…
time squad?
For people who watched the movie Zeitgeist.. I do see some things in One Piece that simmilar towards Zeitgeist.. xD
Stevie Ray Vaughan (who closely resembles Ace) had a band with two of his friends when he was young, called "triple theat". The name would fit very nicely for Ace, Luffy, And Sabo's time in the Goa kingdom.

Rakuyou totally looks like Jack Sparrow.

Beautiful .
Zoro's becoming like Date Masamune. In Sengoku Basara, the eyepatch is actually on the wrong eye, and Oda realized his mistake. The two characters are even voiced by the same voice actor.
Sabo's hat always seemed familiar and I'm not sure if it's because of this or something else, but this clip has an identical hat.
ZwCt0YQPn7g
Since Ace also has an hat similiar to the one a musician wears, it could be some small random connection Oda made.
Sorta obvious
!
Kidd is inspired by

This is brilliant.
Salman Rushdie is Rayleigh?
Sorta obvious
Y'know, when I first started watching One Piece and I found out Luffy had the gomu gomu powers, I thought "omg this show's gonna suck, he's gonna get beat up so bad.. he's like Dhalsim, he's gonna be so slow, and the stretching has such an obvious weakness to it, people will grab him and fling him all over the place" little did I know..
Yeah, I said the hat looked familiar but not because of the vid. But the hat in the vid is almost exactly like Sabo's, not just another hat with googles on it. Both the type of hat and googles, would just need to flip the googles.
And since a pic of a musician that kinda looked like Ace and had an hat like him, I found this -another musician with an unusual hat- funny.
I'd be surprised if this hasn't been brought up a million times, but isn't Armor Haki pretty similar to Hamon from Jojo?
Is there any indication that Luffy's movements in the most recent chapters are a result of speed or some other ability? It would be weird to think that "The Will of the King" functioned the way "Za Warudo" did in Jojo.
As a side note, I went to the beginning of this thread and noted that I had the second post. It's awfully weird to read something that you typed five years ago.
Let's see.
Kuro reminds me of Kyoyo from Ouran…Brook is like a skeletonized Slash (from Guns N' Roses, of course..) meets Jack Skellington..there were more I thought of, i'll post them when I get a chance..-_-;
If memorie serves Oda said that because he loves parties, like Shanks.
Pretty sure Oda would get wasted every time he could in his younger days and then draw the next name or invent the new set of charaters/acrs.
so that means the reason for his creativity and ingenuousness is getting drunk all the time
Well boys I'm off to get wasted!!!!
