All I really want from the kick-off of part 2 is that One Piece reverts back to it´s 90-95 percent main character time share, instead of what has lately become somewhere around the 60-70 percent. It never got around to bleach level, where it´s somewhere along the lines of 30-40, but still.
That reminds me… spirit king. Bleach is a bad joke these days.

I've played that scenario in my head a few times and I can't imagine Shanks taking it from him. He'll probably just smile and put it back on Luffy the same way he did when he was a kid.

Im mostly concerned about character designs and personality changes.
O.O Me too! Luffy was so cute and adorable…. i hope he hasn't changed too much. i was so afraid when Ace died that Luffy was going to suddenly become all serious and.... breathes I just hope he remains somewhat as the Luffy we have all grown to love and adore.

lol, i really do hope there is some shitty twist where luffy gives the hat back to shanks, and either A. sews his own hat to stay straw hat luffy, or B. somehow gets ace's hat and wears that :P

I don't think Oda will do much. He'll probably just be a couple inches taller, bit more physically toned, eyes just a bit less round and childlike to give him a slightly more aggressive look.

Wow, only three days left! It's really been almost a month, huh? Between doing College Work and playing Video Games, it only feels like it's been two weeks at most…. I can't wait! I'm definitely going to lock myself out of the Spoiler Thread for this one.

I agree. I think Shanks will die at some point, but not so soon after Whitebeard. I also see this scenario (quote) and the death of Shanks as being separate rather than the shank's death being the reason for Luffy keeping the hat. Luffy will have that hat forever.

Not forever. Shanks wants it back once Luffy becomes a great pirate, right?
If we assume that Shanks will die sometime within the story (to be honest, a reasonable assumption; Luffy will have to defeat the man who did it, of course, if not actually kill him), then Luffy will certainly be involved in the making of Shanks' grave. Once the story has concluded, and Luffy has become the pirate king and/or rallied together the world's pirates to overthrow the world government, one of the last scenes of the manga would include Luffy putting the straw hat on Shanks' grave, proclaiming himself to have become a great pirate.
The manga began with Luffy and Shanks; the manga will end with Luffy and Shanks (… is what I'm predicting at the moment :P)

We receive the scanlation in english on Mangastream's website around 5 days before the official release date of the WSJ magazine in Japan. In this case issue 44 of WSJ, which contains One Piece 598, is announced to be released on October 4th, so we the Internet manga readers are gonna read it on September 29th (= five days before).
And the spoilers comes out even sooner.

And One Piece isn't even on the cover.I'm not 100% sure of the mechanics of it, and someone may be able to explain it better, but the chapters that came out this past Wednesday (ie Bleach 421 & Naruto 511) are for THIS coming week's Jump. So chapters come out a long time before subscribers and news stands get them. Spoilers for next week's issue (week of Oct 3-9) will be coming out HOPEFULLY on Tuesday.

Main characters never change. In some sort of western epic like Star Wars (Anakin -> Darth Vader) they do, but not in shounen manga.
A few tweaks in their looks and becoming more mature but the core remains the same so that the readers can always identify the characters easily.
Goku never changed, just knew more about the world. Naruto just grew taller and made less poop jokes, with a new costume still similar the his old one.I said this before and got flamed but, is the character REALLY coming out this week o.o

luffy was supposed to give it back when he became a great pirate. he's definitely accomplished that and i like the ace hat idea, but then they wouldn't really be the strawhat pirates anymore. i think shanks will just let him keep it
