No matter who joins I'm sure Oda will find a way to make it work.

You did the research?
It happened with Robin, in a way… So. "Could be possible..."
You also have the deal with the negative ghosts, and how they could be avoided as a cheap power.
No, it's just that "no" side has anything, and one side looks better because animals are freaking animals. To balance it out, if the other side used technicalities, then the pro-animals side would cease to have any point at all…
So, it's what you make of the context, and that's where the argument doesn't find any proper ground. To each, his own...
But the pro-"she'll find them cute" argument has the benefit of the doubt here, because as far as we know, she finds animals cute, especially animals that can serve her, like the baboons. If she said monkeys were ugly that's one thing, but opinions can be better than others.
The "potential" isn't capped anywhere, we just know that she's not as bad as the other two–don't know how "good" she is. Is she a nun to them, probably not... However, if it was revealed that she was a nun, how are we to suggest that she wasn't when Oda hadn't ever removed that possibility.
Doesn't matter how good she is, as the spoiled brat shines through all of that.
I'm hoping for a big improvement on robin…she got seriously nerfed when she joined the SHs
You also have the deal with the negative ghosts, and how they could be avoided as a cheap power.
If she feels pain, then it's solved.
She'd have to use the bomb-type ghosts to blow stuff up… Or, like Zoro, she could train herself in some way for two years... <<< pray it doesn't happen, though.

No. ZOMBIES CUTE. That's all she finds cute, those undead things…
She has never said anything "living" is cute, and those baboons are the living. You lose all "argument" because you would then change the context to state that she likes "animals" rather than zombies.
Doesn't matter how good she is, as the spoiled brat shines through all of that.
Is that wrong? We lack one of them in the crew, no?
I'm just trying to consider a possibility to humanize what "actions" she had to take during the ten year stretch. Similar to how we are forced to do the same with other characters…

Yes, because the crew really, really needs a spoiled brat character who would barely do anything and has no reason to go with them or be trusted by them.

Is that a problem?
I'm hooked to seeing a true lazy ass among them.
You know the casual scenes where she's doing barely nothing and they're running around in a frenzy.
If she feels pain, then it's solved.

You don't want Perona to train and get stronger, yet you want her to join?

She likes Zombie Animals, because they can serve her. If regular baboons can do the same then what's the difference?
Is that wrong? We lack one of them in the crew, no?
I'm just trying to consider a possibility to humanize what "actions" she had to take during the ten year stretch. Similar to how we are forced to do the same with other characters…
But do we want another one who flees at the slightest possibility of getting hurt, regardless of the situation?
And she surely didn't do the past ten years because of her being an upstanding citizen.
I'm hoping for a big improvement on robin…she got seriously nerfed when she joined the SHs
You mad?
Robins one of the most formidable members of the crew. She might not have had many boss fights but she often takes out large numbers of mooks on a regular basis.
AGOG, you lost. Just admit it… Perona will never be a crewmate.
Have I mentioned how insane this post is?
She didn't let him talk because he didn't hold a "cute" voice. Think of it as a mother telling you to "always wear clean underwear" thing, where she's just trying to look out for that fellow.
An army? Viz doesn't agree there… I know exactly where you got this passage from, hell, it's fairly simple. Although, the meaning isn't what you think it is... The basis for her using that word could easily be due to Moria's bad influence.
The thought that "value" could be similar from an original example is an interesting and probable thought. Thank you very much.
You don't want Perona to train and get stronger, yet you want her to join?
It is the sound of it… Too cliche, meanwhile, "as Zoro and Mihawk train, Perona does too!"
I think that it sounds so stupid, honestly...
She likes Zombie Animals, because they can serve her. If regular baboons can do the same then what's the difference?
No, she likes "zombies" only, cute ones too… Unless those baboons die, she wouldn't want them. According to what the manga stated, prior to the Usopp and Perona fight.
Viz has the honor of saying, "I'll take everything cute in this world and make them zombies..."
Honestly, judging by Viz, you'd be more correct... The scanlations I read inserted stuff about living being transformed into undead, and only if they were cute enough.
Regardless, they both could mean the same thing, just one of them elaborates upon how it happens.
But do we want another one who flees at the slightest possibility of getting hurt, regardless of the situation?
Not true. Her character is not a complete coward, it isn't expanded upon to the perception you are interpreting it.
And she surely didn't do the past ten years because of her being an upstanding citizen.
Yes, but she doesn't need to be an upstanding citizen, she just needs to be better than the other TB people.

SGR, you need help, or something...?

Broad, eh?

Well it's the only chance she has of joining, so you need it to happen.

So she wants to turn everything cute into zombies, and yet people are wanting her to join the crew? What the hell?
Not true. Her character is not a complete coward, it isn't expanded upon to the perception you are interpreting it.
She's a coward in the sense that she would not fit in with the Strawhats
Yes, but she doesn't need to be an upstanding citizen, she just needs to be better than the other TB people.
But we've established that that does nothing but make her look worse.
We'll know this week if Hancock and Perona are going to have roles in the upcoming arcs.
If they aren't going with the characters, there out. Simple as that.
Perona's dream is an island filled with cute zombie animals. So can anyone explain to me how in the world Luffy could help her achieve this? Or anyone else who isn't Moria (with the help of Hogback) for that matter
@Monkey:
I've read One Piece for as long as you have and I've also read tons of Oda's interviews and…
Curious, where did you read those interviews and by what means?
We'll take a gander at that answer and then we can begin to talk about whether AP is the greatest English-speaking place for OP or not.
"I didn't read them here! LOL"
Hint: That's not the point.
And does AP really have the most members? I had no idea. I just knew it had the most intelligent ones.
"But you put down members that…"
What we put down are the kinds of fans that would proudly declare, "I'm an otaku! Look at my collection of Robin body-pillows! I have more Nami merch. than a warehouse in China! Let's start a petition for uncut OP on TV! I hope this goth-loli character joins the crew in the exact same way Robin did even though Oda has never repeated the same thing twice exactly the same way! Check out this awesome OP RPG I found that took 20 minutes to make! Look at this totally wicked AMV that I put together in 15 minutes! I'm moving to Japan so that I can be closer to Oda and stalk him!"
Most of these people are either too young to know better or genuinely ignorant adults.
Having those ideas as a high school kid is one thing, but if you're out of college and spouting that shit you need a serious change in lifestyle.
Getting angry at us just shows that we're hitting home.
You can accept what we're telling you as experienced fans or you can be careful that the door doesn't hit you on the way out.
Horohorohoro
And I only said that because the subject was the "Same" and we were just continuing from that original subject…
Broad, eh?
was i debating the original subject with you? no i wasnt, the fact that you group all those who dont "think" perona will join in to a "dont want" perona to join makes it really hard for me to even want to consider your view. i personally dont think theres any proof that luffy would want to offer her membership to the crew. but plz enlighten me if you think im wrong i want you to draw what ever connections luffy has to perona and reasons for inviting her besides (oh he thinks ghosts are cool like brooke) because i dont think that argument holds much weight
so awesome said.
Greg, I like you
Well it's the only chance she has of joining, so you need it to happen.
Why? Because she lost a fight to Usopp, her natural enemy? Losing a fight doesn't discount her "the possibility" of being stronger than she could be…
So she wants to turn everything cute into zombies, and yet people are wanting her to join the crew? What the hell?
Ummm… This part only comes because the idea would be that her "backstory" would explain why and how it all connects. Of course. Robin is at fault for joining BW, Robin has a Backstory. Nami too. Perona would be in the similar sense.
She's a coward in the sense that she would not fit in with the Strawhats
I disagree that she's a "coward" in the sense where she wouldn't fit, like you seem to suggest… I make no comment on whether or not she is a "coward" or not, because I question that.
But we've established that that does nothing but make her look worse.
It suggests that she was misguided and badly influenced by the other three… Her more "pure-side" spoiled by their influence.
@Cyborg_Franky:

It's about as reasonable as the one where Chopper joins because he can transform into seven things…
Greg, Robin and Nami are relatively the same...
You mad?
Robins one of the most formidable members of the crew. She might not have had many boss fights but she often takes out large numbers of mooks on a regular basis.
Yeah, but compare her now to when she was in baroque works…she seemed so much more powerful than she is now.
And does AP really have the most members? I had no idea. I just knew it had the most intelligent ones.
This is going to sound like I'm trolling, but in my brief experience here I'm beginning to doubt that. You've assumed something entirely different from what he said; in fact I've been seeing that here a lot, and from a lot of different people, regardless of their opinion. It seems some members have been taking this 'debate' to the point of lunacy- as I said in my first post here, this is all about a possible support character in a Japanese comic book, it's not something to get worked up over.

I don't think most of us are really taking in that seriously. It's just a fun thing to pass the time, and acting like it's far more important that it really is part of the fun. I mean, it'd be boring if we couldn't argue about what other people are saying
Why? Because she lost a fight to Usopp, her natural enemy? Losing a fight doesn't discount her "the possibility" of being stronger than she could be…
She has negative ghosts and ghost bombs. One is broken, the other can't even beat Usopp. She'll need something more.
Ummm… This part only comes because the idea would be that her "backstory" would explain why and how it all connects. Of course. Robin is at fault for joining BW, Robin has a Backstory. Nami too. Perona would be in the similar sense.
Robin was constantly running for her life, and Nami was fighting to save her village. Robin showed regret for what she did, Perona just wanted to do the same thing over again.
I disagree that she's a "coward" in the sense where she wouldn't fit, like you seem to suggest… I make no comment on whether or not she is a "coward" or not, because I question that.
Usopp is a coward who fits, as when the time is needed he will be there and stand up to the danger no matter what. Perona is the opposite.
It suggests that she was misguided and badly influenced by the other three… Her more "pure-side" spoiled by their influence.
That's just grasping at straws.
What we put down are the kinds of fans that would proudly declare, "I'm an otaku! Look at my collection of Robin body-pillows! I have more Nami merch. than a warehouse in China!
…..I suppose this is a bad time to gloat about a massive collection of One Piece adult doujinshi?
Also should be pointed out with Nami and Robin that they both openly went against the enemy boss before they joined and shown that they never really agreed with what said boss was doing. Perona has never done anything like that. So unless Moria becomes the enemy boss of Fishman island, which is highly unlikely for several reasons, I think that hurts Perona's chances
She has negative ghosts and ghost bombs. One is broken, the other can't even beat Usopp. She'll need something more.
We didn't see her big ghost bomb do damage… We got a rough idea of what it is capable of: Total KnockOUT!!!!!
Then, we do not know the limit of her powers either, therefore, that brings up a billion things Oda could do to slide through this.
She "can" beat Usopp... She just fell into the OP version of a coma.
Robin was constantly running for her life, and Nami was fighting to save her village. Robin showed regret for what she did, Perona just wanted to do the same thing over again.
Age: Robin is older than Perona. I would think.
Two, you didn't know all that because it was only shown after all the other stuff happened.
Three, is it "not" possible for Perona to have a "deeper motive" to staying with Moria that happened before she met Moria ten years ago?
Usopp is a coward who fits, as when the time is needed he will be there and stand up to the danger no matter what. Perona is the opposite.
I said this before, but I don't see her as a coward. At all. What I mean is that the adjective fails to describe her.
That's just grasping at straws.
Is it possible?
Have you even given a decent reason that she should join other than resorting to childishly poke holes in logic that is presented to you, AGOG?
Saying it could happen because its possible is an idiotic arguement. Oda could go into an arc where Akainu becomes a pirate, or make Dragon end up joining the world government if he wanted. So both of those are technically possible as well. However, being possible and being likely are two ENTIRELY different things, and the chances of those things happening is near 0. An arguement on fiction like this needs to be about what is likely, not what is possible
Is there any imaginable backstory that would make the readers sympathize for a character whose lifelong ambition is to rule over a kingdom of zombie servants/slaves? I don't think the standard "I only wanted family/nakama/someone to love" or "That's the only thing I knew in my harsh, traumatic life" tropes apply in this case, because . . . slaves. Same way the reader's not really going to sympathize with Absalom the molester or Hogback the stalker/abuser. Nami's lust for money (and Franky's thieving lifestyle) always had the possibility of being a means to an end, and Robin's love for history was pretty value-neutral. I don't think they really compare.
guys I know AGOG being back and vocal has excited you all but at this point it's all redundant.
They won't listen.
We won't listen.

She's still old enough to make a decision like that. And we know what Perona's motive was for staying with Moria, and it was to have Zombie Animals serve her.
I said this before, but I don't see her as a coward. At all. What I mean is that the adjective fails to describe her.
She's a coward when worse comes to worse. If you don't think that then I don't know what to say.

Why do so many people think the point is to get the other guy to listen? Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how stupid it might be. Convincing people can be nice, but the real goal is just to have fun discussing and debating One Piece. Seriously, I think the people who make the biggest deal out of things like these are the ones saying not to make a big deal out of it
I HATE TIMEZKIPZZZ COZZZ PERONA-SAMA CAN'T JOIN ANYMURRRR… Huuu huuuu

Serious Answer: Yeah, it's fun discussing and debating One Piece. I've had fun arguing over whether Jinbei or would join, whether or not there's going to be a timeskip, whether or not Sabo was alive (back when it wasn't obvious) and other things. It's fun when you can get a discourse going where both sides have valid arguments, supported by facts and logic, and the discussion makes you consider things you hadn't previously thought of. Basically a good debate, one where both sides come out richer at the end.
But I'll tell you what isn't helpful in a debate. Bullshit. Especially when that long refuted bullshit is brought up time and time again. Imagine, there's a big Historical debate going on, purely academic, in which one side argues that Social factors and ideologies are the driving forces in history and the other says individuals make the biggest contributions. Half way through in walks a guy who laughs at both of them and advocates that dinosaurs have been controlling humanity behind the scenes for years. He provides false reasoning and twisted logic to support this and refuses to shut up, no matter how many times he's refuted. Instead he sits there and ruins the debate because, naturally, all the focus turns to him and his loony ideals. This is the problem I've had with the Perona camp since the beginning.
Answer B: I don't take it seriously, I sit on the sidelines and take potshots at whoevers losing.

I'll agree it doesn't help a serious debate. However this a debate on a manga aimed at teenagers. Nobody really gets anything out of it ultimately beyond entertainment. So if my opponent wants to make up bullshit and act stupid, I don't care. In fact, I find it far more entertaining when they do. It gives me more to make fun of, and it's honestly funny to see how absurd people get
Yeah, but compare her now to when she was in baroque works…she seemed so much more powerful than she is now.
Thats because the only time she appeared was when shit was getting fucked up,that and we barely knew anything about her.
Luffy lost to Shanks…
@Bobjr:
But she didn't, and lost to childish tricks. And we saw her "Ultimate Combo", what else can we see?
We didn't see its effect. She went into a coma, and if she won, the manga was explicit that the CREW would be "defeated" after that.
She's still old enough to make a decision like that. And we know what Perona's motive was for staying with Moria, and it was to have Zombie Animals serve her.
Is that the only motive, or is it like how Nami wanted MONEY [so to speak, as others believed, or the treasure that she'd get…]. What I mean is that you shouldn't judge a character that could have a potential backstory which changes things, from what we "think" they would be.
Plus, there's other interesting ways to dismiss that whole conversation.
She's a coward when worse comes to worse. If you don't think that then I don't know what to say.
Well, there's OTHER WAYS of reading things… For instance, the RAW approach where you incorrectly examine words and relate them to characters, false on false... Then, the other approach where you can review what coward is and what coward does, then explore deeper into what Perona is feeling at the time that she "ran from there" like she did-- then expand upon the wording the manga used, and take it for what it is, not what you interpret it as...
This would define her character as anything but a coward, however, we wouldn't get an answer of her, except that she's just not a coward.
It's possible a meteor will hit the earth and destroy it tomorrow, but will it happen?
No, not tomorrow…
A tomorrow of later, however, may digress.

Stupidity can be fun to read. The problem is that the more stupidity there is in a thread, the more spite there is. Past a certain point, it's not fun to read spite, if only because it makes a thread look like every other spiteful thread, and more of the same is tiresome.
Well, there's OTHER WAYS of reading things…
No, thats called "putting the Draco in Leather Pants".

Are the Perona supporters bad at comprehending literature.
People who still support Perona as a possible candidate or actually declare her as already a member of the crew are the embodiment of stupidity. That or they just enjoy trollin' and enjoy creating alternative accounts with the free time they have which clearly indicates that they have an active life outside of the internet.:ninja:
@RobbyBevard:
Perona's closure will be wet and sticky.
:sick::sick:

@Unusual:
This is going to sound like I'm trolling, but in my brief experience here I'm beginning to doubt that.
See, now there's an opinion. I happen to disagree with it because no other English OP board has even a mildly comparable plethora of experts in Japanese, Japanese culture, series particulars, manga and animation in general, dedicated but sane fans who create work that the entire English-speaking fandom benefits from and most importantly, a Naruto thread.
And might I add, mods that aren't tyrants.
'Everyone's entitled to an opinion'
Everyone something-something asshole something-something full of shit.
Oh man why did somebody link to TVTropes.
And AGOG, give up the ghost.
BTW, proof of how fiercely we will defend sane opinions is in the pudding.
Back in 2005 there was a thread about OP going to space.
Previous asswipe members gave it to the poor kid who made the thread but a number of us (that are still around too) stood up for the guy and supported him because even though it was crazy, it didn't leave the realm of possibility for what we knew about Oda.
Lo' and behold a year later we were face to face with space-mother-fucking-pirates.
Thinking Perona will join shows that no matter how long you've been reading OP, you haven't been reading it.
