No thanks. Last thing we need is more uninformed fans. :(
But.. I thought it was so much cooler when I thought Tien could grow hands… :(
And one of my favorite lines came from the first dub.
Nappa (to Tien): Awww, you don't look so good, looks like you need a nice trip..... TO THE NEXT DIMENSION... one way of course!
I never laughed so hard as a child when a good guy was in peril. Who the hell did they think they were fooling? Even I as a kid knew that meant they were killing each other.
Blowing up someone is okay because they go to the next dimension? really?

They need to suffer like I did (even though I actually like the garlic Jr saga but hate the other world tournament saga, Pikon is boring as fuck)

Because of that dub I seriously thought DBZ was mindless fighting and that DragonBall was about vegeta and his dad, plus the origins of goku.
Man I was 8 when I started watching that…so funny how the 3 movies they got ahold of were uncut yet the episodes weren't -

My real favorite lines that I actually chuckled at that were obviously dub add-ins were Raditz to Piccolo.
"Oh, excuse me! Has anyone seen my arm? You can't miss it! It's green!"
"Why so blue, green man? Is it because you're powerless to help your friend, or 'cause you're just plain ugly!?"
-
"Well done You actually managed to singe some of my leg hairs."
-
oh here's one:
Vegeta:Blows up a building "Good thing it was a sunday"
-
Oh God, I was really gullible as a kid, so I actually believed all of that "Another dimension" nonsense back then. But, after watching the series uncut, and going back to the Ocean Group dub, I think one of the funniest lines was when a news reporter was describing a city that Nappa destroyed and said "Luckily, everyone was able to evacuate in time."
And people have mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I can't help but laugh and shake my head at Vegeta saying that Bardock was a brilliant scientist.
-
Dear Gods not the dub! The manga is pretty much the most perfect thing I read, although there are 6 other series on my God tier.

Raditz's line is just so epic due to how hilarious it sounds. Though I always got a weird kick out of Tien's "Just wait until it grows back!" bit…then again considering I knew little to nothing about Tien, my stupid mind thought that was possible if Piccolo could do it. I mean, I had already seen all sorts of weird crap by that point in the dub...regeneration just seemed like the next step. (then again starting from Z really screwed Tien and Chaotzu...the little guy got this whole montage and we're like...um...what?)

Back in Middle School and High School me and my friends never got the significance of the rest of the cast, We were all like, why the hell are they even there? than once Dragonball started to air than it started to make sense. A huge example would be Yajirobe, the ocean dub only shows that he cut vegeta's tail off but not that he slashed vegeta in the back. The rest of the time he doesn't do shit. Now go back to King Piccolo arc, Yajirobe kills off Tamborine with ease….it's like what the fuck happend?
and thus that's where everything got messed up. We should of been watching DragonBall before DragonBall Z. At least G.ay T.our wasn't released before DBZ or DB
-
Jog my memory. Ocean dub gave us Big Green, right?
-
Wasn't that a British dub?
-
The Ocean dub is the dub with Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond. Usually gets complaints for the butchering of season 1 and 2, even though that was FUNi and Saban. Ocean just provided the voices. They also dubbed episode 108-276 for a company named Westwood Media, but it was terribly rushed and had some really bad voice acting, not at all the quality Ocean dubs usually have (Death Note, Black Lagoon, DBZ movie 1/2/3).
The dub with Big Green is usually just called the Big Green dub, because we still don't know where the hell that monstrosity came from.
-
A company called Bridge Entertainment produced the 'Big Green Dub'…from what I have heart. Adamant's got the DVDs, I think.

Actually, they did have Yajirobe slash his armor in that dub. The thing was that they made it seem less serious, with Vegeta wailing "You almost cut through my armor!"

Bridge Entertainment just published it. Their logo is also on the Dutch releases of the Saban/FUNi/Ocean dub.

"Well done You actually managed to singe some of my leg hairs."
Is that from Tree Of Might?
-
Is that from Tree Of Might?
No, that was when Piccolo blasted Raditz, and only managed to destroy some of his leg hair.
-
I've been watching Dragon Ball Kai recently and a particular piece of music struck out to me. Does anyone know the title of the BGM played in Planet Namek when Piccolo dragged Goku out of the water and also used when Goku lands back on Earth in Episode 57?

"The Braveheart's Triumphant Return", it's on the second BGM collection.
-
My favourite Kai BGM is still Dragon Soul Orchestral version. It's so happy and upbeat, it just brings a smile to my face when it plays.
-
That's a favorite of mine too. Almost makes me feel like the whole reason they selected Dragon Soul as the OP was simply for the orchestra version of it.
-

Weird how that line was almost practically reused in the Tree Of Might dub.
-
While we're still on the subject of dub weirdness, I thought I'd mention the Malaysian dub. It's been mentioned before, but I don't think anyone has in this threat. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, seeing how they're not fluent English speakers, but the unintentional humor goes through the roof when you watch scenes like this.

So I finally have cable again and have complete access to Nicktoons Network (never did with Comcast, cheap bastards). I'm amazed by how often Nicktoons airs DBK through out the week. A little perplexed about why they show one episode from the day before at 7am and the follow-up at 7:30am. But either way, it's all good. Now I can actually see the rest without needing to rely on their site, or having to watch it on CW 4Kids' block.
Kinda disappointed there isn't an HD variation, though not too much since I can finally catch up on the dub. So no real heavy complaints here.

That's the way CN showed DBZ in my country.

Didn't know that the Ginyu Force had there own theme song.
I think it's awesome.
9Lqla0b8NFgNice parody of Super Sentei or Power Rangers.
I Would love to have camera to record in that room where Sabat, Vic, Greg, Jason Liebrecht R. Bruce Eillot. Are singing this song.
Also this song reminds me of Megeman. For a weird reason XD
-
There's a full version of the song in Japanese. Everyone's begging FUNi to do a dubbed version as an MP3 or to release the soundtrack here. :p
-
The Ginyu force own, they are like the Dragonball version of Team Rocket lol.
The shonen manga world needs more fun villains like this rather than emo, uber-serious, aloof, poser, melodramatic cocky whiney fangirl/fanboy squee superficial bastards like Aizen, Gerard or Sasuke.
-
I had a debate with my friend about how bad ass the ginyu force really are. Hell if certain factors didn't come into play they would have never defeated them.

The Ginyu Force were meant to be a parody of Super Sentai, not Power Rangers. Just like how Saiyaman is a parody of Kaman Rider and not the Masked Rider.

Sorry for the stupid question etc. etc. but can anyone here tell me the difference between the original JP Dragon Ball volumes and the "perfect" red cover ones? Are the dimensions of the book different or any content differences?
I can't find a picture of what I heard was the original volume but here is the one I've seen being called "perfect" with the red cover.
-
The Kanzentai Manga Guide should be able to supply you with the information you need (and much more)!

Ahh, forgot about Kanzentai. Problem is though, I haven't seen a single place that sells the Tankoubon volumes lately. Know any sites that carry them?

Eleven bucks a piece, it seems.

Those are Kanzenban. They're the only ones I've been seeing around, I want the regular ones.

Why want the original ones when the Kanzenban is better in every way possible?

Well I'm a bit OCD and I like to have Tankoubon so all different series can go in the same row on the same shelf and look proper.
But what are these differences that makes Kanzenban so much better? -

Oh really, well it won't fit on my shelf of One Piece volumes but the color pages makes it hard to prefer tankoubon..
-
Kanzenban has colour pages, better paper, are bigger in size, have a completely new translation (the original French translation was baaad + even the original Kanzenban had translation fixes, such as Trunks warning Goku for #17 and #18, instead of #19 and #20) and it has a new ending.
-
Yeah, I heard the French got Kanzens
Mine are Japanese. If Viz ever did the release, you shouldn't bother picking it up because it'd be just as censored as the current release…
-
Due to the nature of me being offline, playing Budokai Tenkaichi funnily enough, I still haven't finished talking about the Ginyu Force :p
@Geppetto: the Ginyu force only seem weak anyway by Dragonball standards. I don't think many average shonen heroes could stand a chance against any of them except Gurd but that's a given. Of course we then go into the whole power scale debate but I will bloody my hands with that AS LONG AS nobody mentions Superman.
-
Just like how Saiyaman is a parody of Kaman Rider and not the Masked Rider.
I think the Great Saiyaman is a parody of Seiun Kamen Machineman in particular:
xcauG32TdSA
Anyway, it's a Shotaro Ishinomori creation, just like Kamen Rider.
-

Which creates even bigger problems, since the two guys Goku and friends end up fighting identify themselves as "Number 19" and "Number 20" a zillion times, yet no one ever thinks about how these aren't the names Trunks used.
Dragonball Kai's solution, where Trunks simply doesn't refer to them by any name at all, works perfectly, though.

Eh, I dunno. Having the Z-warriors forgetting the names of the artificial humans seems a bit more plausible to me than having Trunks forgetting them, considering how he'd been fighting them all his life and all. But yeah, just referring to them as "a pair of artificial humans" without specifying their names does seem like the best solution.
-
Sorry to derail a bit but still on topic about the DB volumes.. Does anyone know a better site to purchase artbooks and volumes besides Nippon Export? Their shipping rates are outrageous and obviously overcharging and lying about trimming the price to the exact rate after you buy.
-
Yeah, I heard the French got Kanzens
So did the Dutch. =P
Kind of funny since DBZ's popularity here was relatively short-lived and the manga business isn't exactly going strong, yet we get the ultimate Dragon Ball release before almost any other country in the world.
