Yeah, same here. Those are the two games I'm interested in.
I think there was another game, but I can't remember what it was.
My friend has FFT and he said it's awesome and the translations (names and skills in particular) are much better
Made me so nostalgic for it. I need to play it sometime.
(like ramming the wolf into a certain wall 3 times) that open secret locations,
Kill the swooping Pac-Man-ish ghosts in the Upside Library for about 30 minutes or so with increased Luck. Trust me.
i think i know what your talking about with the wolf, and i've done that like 50 times in a row, and still got nothing. damn thing, i must be doing soemthing wrong.
hmm, pac man ghosts-library. i'll keep that in mind. I loved going through this game the first time with no guide. It was so exciting to find all those goodies on my own. then to go back again and find even more. muahahahahah. Playing the old NES games kind of gave you a clue where to look for hidden things in this game.
hey greg, when you get outside the castle to get a higher percentage, can you get back in? cause how can you save that percentage if you can't get back in? (I was always under the impression you could not re-enter)

Wait what! An FFT with an actual readable translation, is that out already? If not, what's the release date?
Came out last month actually

EDIT: Nevermind, I found what I was looking for.

REALLY!!!!???? I HAD NO IDEA!!!!! HOW SO??
hey greg, when you get outside the castle to get a higher percentage, can you get back in?
I have nary a clue, I was never able to get in myself. I seem to recall a glitchy way to get out (seem to recall it involving the Alucard sword warp) and back in but I never did it myself.

are you teasing me? well same game developers, they tend to use the same tricks. like that turkey hiding at the bottom step at the end of the entrance hall. that's classic castlevania.

oh, you haven't actually done it. I remember reading it in a review somewhere. too bad it's packed away in a box somewhere. I don't remember there being a way back in. kind of cool, but kind of pointless if you can't save that progress.

Should really put that to the test sometime with either of the DS games. I can't think of any examples of developers doing something like that.
Ah, SotN. I can still recall wasting the entire summer of '99 just leveling up the Murasama in the Mermen room.
Just so I could kill Dracula in under 10 hits. -_-;
ha ha ha ha….that's so cool.

See, that's why I hate when people say the game's too easy.
It's really your fault if you beefed yourself up too much, not the game developers'.
Uh, was I critiquing the game's length?
You get the blood sword pretty late in the reverse castle anyways, so it's not like you can beef yourself really early, to make it easier.

I wasn't berating you in particular. ;)
It's just that people have the tendency of doing that when they play the game, and then complain that it's short and easy. It's true that if you level up too much, and get all the powerful weapons, you can pretty much breeze through the last bosses. But there are ways to avoid that.

Oh I've gotten out before. Just not back in.
is the jap version good or bad?
IIRC the JP ver. had a few stuff that the US ver. either didn't have or removed, plus it has better dubbing (duh!)
BTW can we safely say that PSX SotN>Saturn SotN?
I've heard from someone that while the Saturn ver. is good, the PSX ver. just feels better since the Saturn ver. had a few problems with animation and such.

The Saturn version was apparently missing transparencies or something.
But it had lots of extras. Maria was playable, there were some more items, and new areas. Oh, and some new music. I really like the Bloody Tears remix.
But it's despised by lots of people. I've read some pretty lame reasons. Even Iga made fun of it, saying that the extra levels were bad. Even if that is so, I don't see how they detract from the game, considering they are extras.
The Saturn Megaman 8 was also missing transparencies, but was superior to the PS1 version.
Now, I'm sure there are problems with the Saturn version, considering it's a port, but I can't shake the feeling that a lot of the complaints are simply because "It's Saturn LOL".
^Thanks for clearing that up, i myself was planning on playing the Saturn ver. eventually just for the heck of it.

Yeah, I was hoping they would add the Saturn extras into the PSP one. That way it could be the perfect PS1 port plus the features from the Saturn version.
But when he was asked, Iga just bashed the Saturn version. From what I remember, it seemed like he only thought there were new areas in it.
I thought that was kind of strange, because some of the extras seem pretty awesome. I've read that the new areas aren't that great, but from what I've seen, playing as Maria looks fun, and some of the extra weapons seem neat too. And like I said, I liked some of the remixed music.

oh, well it might be interesting to find the jap version someday.
That reminds me of the fact that they changed the cover art on the CD case for the american release. it's ugly. What was wrong with the pretty jap version.
Can somebody merge this with the SotN thread plz?
So I recently managed to play Rondo of Blood for the PC Engine and DAMN were the grafix freaking awesome! …but the difficulty seems rather high IMO, I'm still trying to beat the Werewolf boss :/
My currently fav. Castlevania would have to be HoD for the GBA, followed by CoD for the PS2.
TBH I sadly couldn't get into SotN for the PSX despite how interesting it is :/
Wait, your favorites are Harmony and Curse of Darkness? Those are like my least favorites of the past six or seven years. Symphony, Circle of the Moon, and Portrait of Ruin are where it's at for modern Castlevanias, and Rondo of Blood, Super IV, and 3DC are the best of the older ones.
(And dude, if you think Rondo is hard, you'd never be able to finish the SNES DX, 3DC, or Bloodlines. Rondo's difficulty is definitely above-average for a game nowadays, but it's medium-difficult in Castlevania terms.)
I love this series. I've been a fan ever since I played III back in the days of NES. Though what really got me into Castlevania was Circle of the Moon. It was the only GBA one I've played, but the card system was so fun to use. Potrait of Ruin is probably the most unique out of the all the ones I've played.
I really want to play Symphony of the Night, but sadly I can't find a rom anywhere.
I've always had a soft spot for Castlevania games. III is still one of my favorites. It has some of the best music in a Castlevania game even to this day. I thought the PS2 ones were both pretty bad. Stale music, character design and graphic quality. It just seemed we were getting a really rushed product with each game (Although CoD was a huge improvment over LoI).
As much as I hate Soma's design, two of my recent favorite Castlevania games are Aria/Dawn of Sorrow. I think it was the fact that it had a somewhat engaging plot, and the sidecharacters were fun and interesting. Hammer is definitely my favorite shopkeeper. Plus soul-collecting gave me something to do aside from hack and slash.
I want my Battle of 1999 dammit.
Symphony is still king, bitches!
@Solar:
I want my Battle of 1999 dammit.
Fighting Julius was probably my favorite thing about that game. As soon as Vampire Killer starts up and Julius starts coming at you that was probably the coolest moment of that entire game.
I have to wonder about the whole Belmont family line though. There seem to be big gaps where they just kind of disappear and reappear like there's a shed somewhere they're hiding in.
@Solar:
I want my Battle of 1999 dammit.
Hasn't Iga been promising it for the last decade now?
I hope to see it in my life time.
I love the series. I've played the majority of them, but My favourites overall are SotN and PoR.
Circle of the Moon? Bleh.
I liked Portrait of Ruin and the Soma games.
I never played SoTN, but I've always really wanted to.
Only played Castlevania 64 and SotN.
Is that the only game without Simon Belmont? because i think the character for the PS1 series was alucard
as for the N64 version,I like some levels, but some ,like trying to protect the boy from the chainsaw carrying zombie, were difficult.
I've only been able to play Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, with some Circle of the Moon back when it first came out.
I loved Aria, and the art style switch for the DS games makes me extremely sad.
First Castlevania game I ever played was Circle of the Moon in 2002. That's what got me into the series (although I did wanna buy Suupaa Castlevania IV back during the 90's).
I remember loving that game when I got it, I thought it was awesome. I have since collected every title that came out in order after Circle.
I never played Symphony, but I still want to.
What Castlevania games are out for the Virtual Console? I don't have a Wii yet… The only old ones I've played were 1 and 2, and I started back up on the series when Circle of the Moon came out.
I hope the battle of 1999 comes out for the Wii. I want to spin the nunchucks all over the place for a whip attack.

i think just 1 and 2 from the NES series
I love the Castlevania series. I've had the games since the beginning. I believe I've played them all but the 3D Ps2 games.
I own:
1,2,3,64,HoD,CotM,DoS,DX:C(therefore owning RoB and SOTN).
I have 1 and 4 on VC.
My least favorite game in the series (I am going to get shot for this) is DoS. I don't like the character Soma Cruz and I thought the game was pretty bland.
As for the 1999 game, it better have at least 3 playable characters or I'll be angry (needs 4)….
! 999: It was foretold that this would be the year when the war between Dracula and the Belmonts would come to an end. Dracula was resurrected, but Julius Belmont, possibly Adrian Tepes and most likely a relative of Yoko Belnades managed to defeat him. Apparently, a family member of Mina Hakuba was also involved. Castlevania along with the soul of it's master was sealed in an eclipse that occurred at the time of his death. After the battle, Julius lost his memory.
What Castlevania games are out for the Virtual Console?
1 and 2 from the NES series (I think 3 as well), and Super Castlevania IV.
@Battle:

I don't know, but Portrait of Ruin was such a cocktease with it.
I like Aria of Sorrow & Portrait Of Ruin (the first Castlevania game I owned and finished) I discovered Symphony Of The Night on Xbox Live and cursed myself for not DLing, it all things considered though 800 MP is a bit steep.
Only played Castlevania 64 and SotN.

IIRC you play as Simon in the very first and second games only. In other games you play as either his ancestor(s) or descendants. In a few games you do not play as a member of the Belmont clan.
@Tommy S- Nope IIRC you play as Richter Belmont in Super Castlevania 4 for the SNES since it's a port of Rondo of Blood.
@Lazzie- lol, I know a number of Castelvania games are a pain to beat but often I figure out how to beat them easily after a few plays.
Actually, in Super Castlevania IV you play as Simon which was basically a remake of the original game. Richter is in the second SNES game Dracula X. You also play as Simon in Castlevania Chronicles for the Playstation and he's unlockable in Harmony of Dissonance but only for the boss rush mode.
It's been a decade since they last casted him in an original CV game.
Super Castlevania is where its at, I love that game for the simplicity of the plot, one screen of awesome

Umm…I don't recall talking about who you play as in SC4.
Super Castlevania is Simon Belmont
I was lucky enough to find a complete copy, the box and manual among other things, of SCV IV on ebay a while back. I'm also glad that I found a new copy of Symphony for $20 at the last place I would have guessed, Sam's Club. For some weird reason though the audio skips when I play it on my PS2.

I'm really hoping the next DS title will be the battle of '99.

Do want etc.
They look real and if they aren't congrats to the person who spent a ridiculous amount of time putting that much work into them.
I've been waiting for this.
Fan vad jag längtat efter de här! Ser lite trist och grått ut dock.
EDIT Eh sry my mind was else where, What i was saying was that ive like Kuro have been anticipating this game, tho those screens looks a little too grey and glum.
