Up till now I'd also been assuming that it did point to the user as opposed to the card, since Ace's kept a steady bead on him. I came to the conclusion the card pieces points towards the largest piece of card, and that generally the one card doesn't (intentionally) get split into 10 pieces.
And yeah, in that case, Ace obviously had his on him… somehow.

So, it seems and later it is proved by Rayleight, that the small pieces are drawn to the bigger one, probably half is with the owner and the other half is teared and given away…...So, to hide this paper is a nuisance, but that's where the biggest discussion in here was about at the time....If the paper was pointing to Ace, where was his piece hiding, even after the boiled bath at Impel Down....
The one thing I am not sure is if we see his Vivre card point to him, or we can assume the Marines took it, and the paper was only in scene for us to know how alive Ace was...

that when you let a vivrecard been produced of yourself you get in the end two pieces of paper.
one which you can split a few times to give it to differnet persons and one part which is just for you and which you shouldn`t split.
this one you have to carry all the time with you and also this piece of paper detects how your stamina\health is.
Edit: maybe you can even eat up than this piece of paper so that you wont lose it (and its sure resistant against your stomack acid)..would explain why Ace still could be detected by Luffy even in ID.

Franky never felt like an outsider to me, probably cause of his interactions with Usopp and Chopper in the Enies Lobby arc....Also, it has something to do with the time I started to read weekly, in the seatrain, where he pretty much shined with his fight...

Well… Since it's possible to tear one sheet of vivre card in so many pieces, if half the paper have to stay with the owner I think it would be something hard to hide, since this half of the sheet will be very big.
So, to have something more convenient to transport and hide, my theory is that there is one small part of the vivre card that is easily identifiable (there is some kind of mark on it, like a different color) and this part has the special ability to attract all the pieces of the paper who were tore apart from the sheet. So this small piece of the paper is what the owner keeps with him.

Ah, the vivrecard discussion is back. I don't remember what we (me, bren, and urouge i think at the time, maybe robby was around too) but anyways, I think it's just one of these things where we just assume, the pieces of vivrecard are attracted to each other, and perhaps it's all magical and works everytime, or we'll get a scene later in the story where one person (maybe Luffy or another SH member) is following a vivrecard and meets up with another vivrecard holder that's not the original vivrecard owner. confused yet? I hope so :)
I definitely much more preferred when I thought the vivrecard pointed to the owner and not to the other pieces. So, is this something Oda did to make sure the SHs wouldn't show up on Amazon Lily to interfere with Luffy's training. Perhaps, who knows. But Oda'd damn well better do some 'plaining sometime soon.
The bigger piece of paper attracting the smaller pieces would in fact be a big problem, if the part with the owner ever becomes smaller than one of the the other pieces of the paper who is with another person, all the pieces would point to the bigger piece who in fact isn't with the owner anymore. I made an image to show it:
First the paper was cut in 3 pieces, the pieces 2 and 3 were given to other people, and the piece 1 was kept by the owner. Afterwards the owner decided to give one part of his vivre card to someone else, so he cut his part in two pieces, but now his piece 1 became smaller than the piece 2, and because of that now all the pieces are pointing towards piece 2.
While my theory of a marked part of the vivre card attracting the rest would make things far simpler:
The original sheet had one part marked in red, then this part was cut from the whole, and even though it is small, the rest of the paper is attracted to it. The rest of the paper can be cut in several pieces but all of them will be attracted to the red piece. And this method even allow the division of the vivre card in more pieces than the other.

OK–you know the reason everyone isn't celebrating Buggy's eminent status as a shichibukai--so... I don't understand your comment/question above about the hours---it wouldn't matter how many hours were between the events, would it, if the Gorousei have decided to wait, they'll wait? Are you thinking they changed their minds? As far as we know nothing has happened to change Buggy's status from one chapter to the next, and they were waiting to see how things shook out as far as power, right?
Also, why are we dismissing out of hand the idea that the bat came from Moria--have we seen the Gov't ever use anything for communication besides a bird? Moria was a "dog of the military" only just recently--It seems conceivable that he has some left over Gov't stationary hanging around from his stint as a Shichi that he could use to hide/protect his communique from prying eyes en-route, and he sure as heck ought to be looking for allies right now... Just wondering...

If I recall Ray specifically said he left the card with Shakky so he could move more freely–nothing specific about the SHs and where they are meant to go--so it may be his meaning was a tad more cryptic than we gave him credit for originally. I do understand that it's not a brick bat–don't know that he could send one that far really, but noone ever said Moria only used brick bats, as far as I know.
But yes, we haven't see anyone else get a letter from the Gov't before, so it could be legit. I just thought the timing was odd, what with the letter coming right when Moria disappeared, lol. It'd be an interesting twist.

ha ha. well I agree with you on one thing at least: if a lot of fans have thought it, Oda has done something entirely different. but that's what makes things fun. 
I see a big problem with making Buggy a shichibukai. Namely they know he was on Gol D. Rogers crew, and considering what happened to other people who were associated with Roger, I would be surprised if they would accept Buggy. Especially since I'm sure the upper tier marines can tell he is really weak and his followers were decent, but ultimately not enough that they'd pose a threat or anything like that

Maybe they want some information from him how to find Raftael or one piece (maybe there is some kind of trick to do this)… after all he was on pirate king ship
Bats might be their secret way of sending messages. They'd only travel at night, so they wouldn't be spotted.
They might want Buggy as an ally because he already has a small army.. and might try to create a larger one. I could see them going after crews that could be a military threat to them in the future. They might also want him to build them an army as it stands to reason they'd be making a push into the New World now.
They might be over estimating him as well.. since they don't know where all the higher level prisoners went even though they're not with him.
Another thing is that he exposed the WG's Pacifistas.. and showed they they are suppressing highly advanced technology so they can have a military advantage over everyone else.. that should piss a lot of people off.. I'm surprised they'd forgive him so easily for that on top of everything else.

Buggy's appearance is sandwiched between Vivi and Crocodile reading the newspapers and the Gorusei discussing the stunt (the way their conversation goes, it's the first time they're talking about it.) The order of events could be slightly out of sync, but not to a degree required. The Gorusei said they wanted to "wait and watch." For the letter to be an invitation, we would have had to skip forward at least a month for the last two pages of chapter 593, then gone back to present time. There's just no indication of a timeskip there. Moreover, what would be the point in skipping around? It would make more sense just to drop the "wait and watch" line.
Not that Buggy can't become a shichibukai. Their "waiting" could be testing the waters and sending out letters to various potential candidates.

Maybe there are just different types of vivrecards. If they use a fingernail to create one, then that card can just have a connection to one person, like Ace, who might not have had a second piece, and it was just pointing to the origin.

So? It'd still be going from the present to at least one month ahead, then back to the present. Oda pretty much always gives an indication (either in a box or in the story) when an important time jump is made; it doesn't fit logically to just jump ahead a month for a couple of pages, without any indicators. It also doesn't make any logical sense to go to the bother of making that timeskip, when he could have just not have the Gorusei talking waiting.

yeah seems to obvious right now, but we know that he will keep Buggy in the story and i think the whole "buggy has done nothing but gets all the honour and stuff"-joke wasn`t for nothing.
so to finally top that joke he ha to gain a high position which would also benefit why we will see him again in the story.

It would show that Luffy controls the new era with having those 10(9) other SN in the end under his control.
Luffy can only rule as the new PK and change the world (destroying the WG) when all stand behind him.
Also it should be clear that Luffy will have in the end such a fleet just like WB had…so seeing there those SN later would be fitting^^

so instead of killing Luffy while he was so damaged that only Law himself could actually save him, he just heals the guy and implant something orso to kill him later.
i think the "deathly surgeon" part is more for his DF-power, because he can tear apart your limbs everywhere as long as you stand in that circle^^
