Chapter 594: "Message" Discussion

Earlier in the thread, there was some discussion about whether the World Government would listen to Sengoku's recommendation and appoint Aokiji as the next top model fleet admiral, or whether they would choose Akainu instead.

I believe that they'll go with Aokiji, if only for a while. As the story progresses, though, I can see the already-corrupt government and Marines growing steadily more corrupt, power-hungry, and desperate. Aokiji will somehow lose his position (either by dying or defecting from the Marines) and Akainu will take things over after that.

I'd like to see some of the Marines uncover the corruption of the World Government and form a group of renegades. In this group I can see Aokiji, Smoker, Tashigi, Hina, Jango, Fullbody, Coby, and Helmeppo, all of whom are, on several occasions, shown to be less than dedicated to Akainu's brand of justice.

whoever thought the big news would be luffy and hancock getting married should just feel bad, that idea was horrible to begin with. i love it when OP fans argue passionately about whether or not something's going to happen when they should just shut up and wait for a week. >_>

Don't know if this has been brought up at all. But what if the reporters and what not who were on the scene and took pictures of luffy got a good view of the tattoo and wrote what it said in the paper? That way the tattoo could be a valid message.Since they could -read- it in the article.

Some people mentioned Enel and the Lightning Island, which I found weird. The reason I thought of Enel was the Capone sequence. The moon is pretty small (and has engines!) was my first thought. It could very well be a weird island though and I'm starting to think that way.

I'm not sure I buy that tattoo theory. Why take the chance on something that might very well not be reported? Hell, we can't even see the whole tattoo properly.

Off topic but;In my opinion this chapter was really interesting and exciting, it feels like One Piece will be turning into something bigger and better in the coming chapters.

Anyway, it seems the tattoo was most likely the message, even though we can't see it from a clear-enough angle. I say in the next chapter Oda will reveal what the tattoo really means.

EDIT: Oh man! I forgot about that sixteen bells thing! How gullible of me! XD

But seriously, now that I think about it, either the sixteen rings and the tattoo are connected somehow, or Luffy did it as a tribute to Ace and Sabo. Most likely the latter.

the tatoo doesn't mean squat IMHO. how many times in the chapter was the tatoo even mentioned? cus the message is a full circle and 16 bells, even the dark king said so himself, the whole thing relies on Luffy's weird actions. we didn't hear him say anything bout "Boy, i sure hope they see that tatoo", just sayin.

I wonder if perhaps the inclusion of the other supanovas getting into fights represents that there will be a brief period where the story will shift focus onto their crews… Thus essentially creating a short "time skip" for the SH in which to get stronger.

Of course I don't mean a solid time skip a la Naruto, what I mean is more, maybe 3 or 4 months (in OP time) will pass while we read about Kid and Uroge and etc, during this time the SH are training, I say this because I can't see either a full time skip or a training montage fitting in with one piece's story style.

Highly doubt it. The focus of the manga has never switched off the SH's for more than a chapter or so and I don't see why it would happen now. It would also be pretty annoying…if there is a time skip i just want time to be skipped. I dont want to have to read a month of supernova BS.

Also, about the dark absolute justice thing. It seems inconceivable in the real world since it is taken to such an extreme in this manga, but it does exist and is not totally useless and saying it doesn't make sense is ridiculous. Absolute justice can mean many things, and absolute justice wouldn't mean Akainu would have to kill Coby, he could just as easily walk around him since in all likelyhood he is 100x faster than the speed coby can even conceive. Killing innocents when it is not needed is no way in hell absolute justice. Absolute Justice is getting the job done no matter what, it doesn't mean purposely killing innocents when there are ways around doing that while still completing the job.

then the 2 and the y stand for two years meaning shabaody at 2 years and thats the message the crew got but i could be 100% wrong just my theory

The emphasis is on the 16 rings, not the round trip or praying for his brother, it's unusual for him to even plan such a ritual. It's pretty much pointless to guess on what 16 bells could mean and the countless ways the numbers can be arranged/manipulated.

All we know is the crew won't return any time soon and that what luffy is asking them of is to ignore their feelings somehow (the need to see him?).

The tat looks like the one ace has, wouldn't make any sense for luffy to have it though.

That's irrelevant to what could've been in the paper. None of that makes your theory not dumb. Nor is it evidence for what could've been in the paper after we knew Ray had some plan in store for Luffy to do.

If you don't think it being public matters it's a good thing the chapters themselves shot down your dumb theory.

Well I'm not really focusing on this new theory you happen to be suggesting. I just find it hypocritical for a person to make a dumb theory and then call someone else's dumb theory the dumbest ever. Kidd's becoming a regular badass motherfucker. Being the first character to crucify some bitches makes him that much more awesome.

Killer's still without a doubt my least favorite SN, but I still dig his design and character

Basil Hawkins is still awesome, and he just pushed up like three places on the SN ranking list for killing that gigantic maggot, Brownbeard

Urouge and Capone (anyone who believes Capone actually kicked the bucket is a moron) seem to be out on some cool adventures. Both of those islands looked cool as hell, and I really hope that the Strawhat's will venture there in the future. Perhaps Urouge and Capone will be stuck on their respective islands and the Strawhats will give them some help? Sort of unlikely, but by the end of the series, Luffy needs to have met and formed some form of relationship between all of the Supernovas. Only ones he's really done that with so far are Law and Kidd.

i don't think anyone can get anything from the writing on his arm at that angle, as someone pointed out earlier - first two letters looks like they have a big cross, but you only see half of it, yet it looks almost like a complete S. beeing such a big event there just might be more pictures we haven't seen.
i do believe the message got something to do with all of it, circling with the marine ship, ringing the bells and the 'tattoo' (though i think it's an armband, darn.. why does it have to be in black and white..). what to make of all of it i don't know.. seen many theorys that seem sorta plausible, had some of my own which hasn't really been brought up completely, but i think as of now i'm leaning to luffy telling them to lay low until the new year starts. mainly because they already know where to go (albeit him sending a clear message probably would be easier to follow then some vivre card), and what killer said about the last/new year. though then they would need to know about marine traditions, but i don't think it would be too farfetched that they do.. zoro might need some help though :p i find it more reliable than let's meet in 16 days/weeks/months since it's to unclear. ah well, have to give it some more thoughts though i've been reading this thread for hours now so better get some sleep.

ah, one last thing.. noone has really said much about kuma, but those who has seems to think he's still trustable? that's not at all the feeling i got from last chapter, and there was no answer in this. feeling kinda uneasy about it, but i don't think it's something shakky can't handle. it's not like something would happen to the ship.

actually that wouldn't be totally crazy, except for the letters beeing in roman.
one could combine it with the circling around marineford+ringing 8+8 meaning new year+1. nothing i support though, mainly cuz i don't want such a big time skip.
