My brother has been running a manga shop in France, where Mangas are more popular than anywhere outside Japan, since the early 90'sI have been reading One Piece since 1998 long before a teen like Jerk Disease or whatever his user name used to be even heard of One Piece.
I've been participating on forums and have "marinated in the flow and understanding of the series" for longer than 99% of the people here including the mods.The people here have become so arrogant that they've convinced themselves they're the worldwide utmost authority on all things One Piece and there's nothing going on outside of this forum.
Jerk Disease, who's apparently trying to win the asshole of the year award, and others here seems to be under the delusion that they're some kind of One Piece scholars generously dispensing his teachings to the uneducated masses.
The sheer arrogance and smugness of the people around here is sickening.

Now! Status of the crewmembers when they Joined!
Ussop, Nami, Franky, Chopper and Sanji where in the place that they call home, they had ties and people who loved them there, a job and a future, but they weren't needed.
Zoro, Robin and Brook had an especific goal or destination that they were traveling at, and working to get there, being taken out of that path in THAT moment seemed like a bad idea, but in the end being in the crew gives them better chances to obtain their goals. It's an stretch with Robin, but if she didn't managed to get to Mery she'd get on another boat (Or BANCHI!) and go back to the blues to search phonegliphs there.
Perona isn't loved anywhere (but by her supporters), not is going forward in any way shape or form.
Boa is loved as a godess, and Jimbei seems like a nice enouhg dude to have some friends at Fishman Island, both are needed, but probably reemplazable(sp).
The fact that she has no personal reason NOT to join is the most telling that she will not join.

I remember being innocently baffled at how people could miss something as obvious as an up and coming crew member like Franky for someone so lacking in qualification as Pauly.
It felt at the time like the worst possible thing, innocent times. Now we live in dark times, there's always been super bad crew member ideas, but none have ever had the considerably large following as Perona.

I've only been reading these forums since the last few fights of Enies Lobby, but one of my favorite moments on this forum was one of the first few "PERONA 4 CREWMATE" supporters. Back when Perona first snuck onto the Thousand Sunny, a few select imbeciles decided to point out that Perona would be a stowaway on the ship, just like Robin. And the people who thought Brook wouldn't join even after the battle with Moria were pretty bad too.
