Well thankfully he backed down when he realized that he hadn't thought things through, unlike other writers and their questionable plot elements. Though I'm sure that most of us wouldn't be fussed if Erza was the protagonist of the story.
@No:
The amnesia was shit on a stick , but the worst problem with the arc were :
Horrible villian being just as horrible even after a GOD upgrade ,
hyped up Nightmare was defeated using bare hands , barely , after two whole chapters ,
Zero had no personality beyond "I wanna destroy stuff" or being more precise "I wanna destroy stuff and even if it's dead it's stil not dead cause it's stil there , I wanna destroy it completely" yet he lets all of the characters alive after he defeats all of them single handedly ,
good ideas (aliance of three guilds against aliance of three dark guilds) turned to shit with lame characters (plus lame-fest that is Wendy)
and finaly an unbelievabely shody , shity and untkinkabely illogacl asspull retcon of "Oh the guild never existed"
Regardles that it somehow participated in a guild meeting
Regardles that it got chosen to send in participants for this aliance during this guild meeting
Regardles That these so called illusions were seen to be afraid for their lives when no body else was around
Regardles that Zero knew about CS yet at the last second Lucy said "O , I never heard of you" .
I never said the amnesia was the worst part of Oracion Seis, and I agree with everything you said there. I will be reading more (hopefully catching up with) the Edoras arc later, but so far Oracion Seis was the only bad arc floating amidst the mediocrity that is non-Phantom Lord/Luxus arc FT (Phantom Lord I'd call good, and Luxus was nearly good too).
And holy shit would that have been a terrible TERRIBLE idea if he made FT all Erza's dream. Erza's cool, but making everything not exist just for her? Dear god, no. Good news is Mashima =/= Kubo so he didn't go with the random stupid "cool" idea he had.
Well thankfully he backed down when he realized that he hadn't thought things through, unlike other writers and their questionable plot elements. Though I'm sure that most of us wouldn't be fussed if Erza was the protagonist of the story.
He stil did it with Ceith Shelter though .
And to this day it makes no sense to me and it's uselesness and baselesness stil baffles me .
He has these shit ideas all the time he originaly wanted to end the Rave series with beating King . So either with not finding Lucie's memories or the rave stones , or by just…..somehow making it all happen there .
Oh one more thing about Rave : why , if Elie is Resha , does she have a diferent personality as her at first , not knowing who Haru is , and what exactly is so shocking about "girl who everyone says looks like Resha in fact IS Resha" ?
yes but by 189 in one piece we were watching sanji fighting mr. 2 in arabasta
That's a bad comparison considering what had happened in OP 'till then. Luffys goal as of chapter 1 was to enter the grand line, and then sail a lap around the world with 10 crewmembers. In alabasta Luffy was 4 islands into the grand line, had a ship, a bounty, and 5 crewmembers. Every single Arc contributed to the overarching plot in more ways than one, with consequenses stretching as far as Sabaody and Impel down hundreds of chapters later.
Bottom Line is: Luffy had made Headway toward his goal. The plot had moved forward, and the world had deepened and characters beenwhile it happened.
Right now fairy tail has barely put its toes in the water with just big far away names and faces that haven't directly influenced our characters yet from the dragons, to the worst dark guild to the guy gerard was trying to revive, but was never dead. Yea we have heard of them, but that is about it. they haven't affected our guys yet. Hell if we were ready to delve into the bigger story, natsu would have ran straight after that black dragon, but he and the author are not ready yet for that.
Why the hell not?? Natsu, the main protagonists only goal is to "find a dragon". Thats the only overarching quest hanging under the heros head in this story. But aside from saying that he WANTS to find Igneel a few times, he never actually does anything about it. There might be some obstacles in his way that he's not ready to face, but we don't know those, and importantly he doesn't know because he's never even tried looking.
As of nearly 200 chapters Mashima has just kept piling new characters and guilds onto one another, filling up his world without using it to tell a story. The manga is just the FT guild undertaking missions, completeing them, returning home, starting a new one. This is excuseable for the first few volumes a la Bleach, but has gone on far too long already.
A competent author should be able to introduce more world and more characters while the quest is under way.
FT is basically like the Filler Years of the Naruto anime.
If Erza was the main character of FT this manga would instantly become GOD TIER.
yes but by 189 in one piece we were watching sanji fighting mr. 2 in arabasta
We'd also had the Arlong and Drum arcs, two of the best, and tone setting, arcs of the series. And assembled the cast, had proper flashbacks for most of them, seen a dozen islands, and were at the very end of Boroque works, with the amazing Crocadile as lead villain.
It may be fair comparing similar things in each manga, but length is never something you can.
what was rave 300 chapters, lets say fairy tail ends up being 500 or more. obviously when rave is knee deep in heavy storyline and even getting to its conclusion, fairy tail could be just starting to put its feet in.
I think if a series has been running for 4 years and 200 chapters, its had plenty of opportunity to prove itself by that point, especially from an author who already did a long running series.
This series is about as good as it is ever likely to be, barring a MAJOR change to the status quo.
It can however, still become far worse, as Naruto and Bleach have taught us.
@robbybedfart:
Its a real cup size. Japan has a different standard from the American. J cup is about equivilent to a DD.
I didn't know that since i'm not Japanese but that would be helpful for women here if they called DD a differn't size.
That's Mashima's style, it's just like Rave. First he begins with random arcs, then slowly it gets closer and closer to the main plot, then it's another bunch of arcs but this time all related to the main story.
I believe that this edoras arc is actually the start to the major plot. Once this whole kingdom crap get's dealt with we'll probably learn from the cats about the dragons and that the dragons didn't dissappear into edoras but are still on earthland.

That's how the follow-up book to Rosemary's Baby ended. I didn't read it but my GF did and she said that it was such a cop-out ending. Honestly that's how kubo should end bleach.

Yep that's what i believe too, first there was Gildartz'q appearance and the mentionning of that black dragon.
Now the cats sent to earth weren't "programmed" to carry the Dragonslayer's massacre as told chapters ago, what makes believe they're somewhat related to dragons.
the next arc will probably deal with the 100 year quest and ivans guild combined.
If Dragon Sense is a new ability to talk to and locate something like dragonhearts, then i see Natsu pursuing the Black Dragon, while he got his guild members on his tail (including Happy, who he left behind and who's the prime follower)

Drum? One of the best and tone setting? Nah. But I do agree that One Piece had much more more headway story-wise back then, more so than Fairy Tail. Although, I might be a bit biased, considering I'm thinking of this in hindsight with everything I know now.
Honestly that's how kubo should end bleach.
Haha, that is how he should end Bleach. Have Aizen kill Ichigo, and then Aizen wakes up to find himself back in Soul Society. Honestly, I wouldn't even be shocked if Kubo did it. Kishi might as well make all of Shippuden an illusion as well.
Drum? One of the best and tone setting? Nah.
Hiriluk singlehandedly made that arc amazing on an emotional level, and was one of the best flashbacks in the series. The actual present portion was one of the better silly arcs, though Luffy climbing the mountain while carrying Sanji, Nami and fighting killer snowboarding bunnies was pretty good. And STILL the best fight Chopper has had in the series.
Gedatsu would like a word with you :ninja:
("Mmmhmhmhmhmphph" :ninja:)
And not to side track but I hope loledinmypants isn't perma banned , he's a good poster .
Anyway , always meant to ask , when does the anime come out ?

I think that is part of the "we don't condone trolling in naruto forums" bans.

Monday, I believe.
Having spotted all the Oracion Seis cameos in the recent episode (wasn't hard, Racer was running, Angel had the one wing, Cobra was playing with a snake, and Midnight was curld up like he was trying to snooze) I can't help but think their past as slaves working on the Tower of Paradise is something that should've been mentioned or at least alluded to in the actual manga. Could have provided them with actual, if stock, motives for trying to blow stuff up with a giant laser cannon.
And in light of that fact, I find it hilarious how they were trying to revive Jellal.
The final scene of the series.

Very smexy. :ninja:
I can't decide- Do I enjoy Fairy Tail more when I'm just taking it for what it is in mass quantities, without much time to dwell on individual problems, or do I prefer it when I'm payingsupercloseattention to each chapter and trying to absorb every little unintentional detail?
I fell a little behind on the recent chapters, but while I was catching up, I actually seemed to enjoy it a little more than I have been, despite a lack of any remarkably better content.
But harp. Uh… Edo Tail is due to show up any day now. I find it hard to believe Mashima will let them just chill out in the wasteland while this whole rebellion is taking place.
If Erza was the main character of FT this manga would instantly become GOD TIER.
Wouldn't that just end up making Gerard show up even more?
If thats even possible.
That reminds me… Knightwalker may have a thing with Mistgun Gerald.... Oh god.

oh… oh dear sweet god
i-i hadn't considered
you have given me nightmares this eve
@Corsair:

Yeah they will , the problem is their role will be so minimal and so WTF outa nowhere it won't make any sense .
There may be four Gerards in Fairy Tail, THAT would be the true nightmare.
Gerard, the Gerard Dragonslayer of Gerard sounds like a promising character.
Than again, why Gerard? Wasn't it Jelal?
No , we use Gerard .
Jellal sounds like Jello , which , even if it aptly describes his character , is just too silly .
When i was reading it was Gerard, an Jellal is arabic, so it sounds wierd…
There may be four Gerards in Fairy Tail, THAT would be the true nightmare.
Imagine Hiro doing "Pasifista" Gerald subplot. They would be all over the place.
And oh, I use Gerald because people were telling me to stop calling him that due to "Gerard", but ever since the official name… I'm free from that petty crap.
When i was reading it was Gerard, an Jellal is arabic, so it sounds wierd…
Screw you, Arabic >>> overused english names.
Jellal Al Fatim Hassan Quieroz DiDragon :ninja:
Jelolo, the Jelolo Dragonslayer. I think Fairy Tail needs the fourth one, and Jelolo just hits the spot.
Screw you, Arabic >>> overused english names.
Sure, so you might know what Jellal means…
Imagine Hiro doing "Pasifista" Gerald subplot. They would be all over the place.
Even so that wouldn't be the worst case scenario, because all pacifistas are on the same side.
Now imagine an army of Good Gerards vs Evil Gerards…no don't imagine that O_O

Why do you know what Erza means?
I had posted a whole section on her name on fairytailworld, before I lost interest.
We could technically call her Elsa.
But since you asked:
The boy's name Jellal \j(el)-lal\ is a variant of Jalal (Arabic), and the meaning of Jellal is "greatness, superiority, renown".
The baby name Jellal sounds like Jelal and Jallal. Other similar baby names are Jemal and Jemaal.
Jellal is an uncommon first name for men and an equally uncommon last name for both men and women. (1990 U.S. Census)
Jamal.
I'm arab too you know…
Thanks for the effort tough ;)
Oh ok, misunderstood your intention, sorry =p
Wait a minute.
Mystogan comes back, conveniently teleports the Lachrima back to Earthland, and all of a sudden, he's the prince of Edoras?
Stick a fork in this arc, it's done. :getlost:
palm to face. .
you still fogot this
That reminds me… Knightwalker may have a thing with Mistgun Gerald.... Oh god.
hey, does anyone happen to have a better scan of this?
!
one without the crease down the middle so I can read the names.
Looks like FT world is based off of Europe a little bit.
This map was shown in the manga before, no ? I'm not sure but if that's the case wait for the anime version, because that's the best scan you can find (searched and didn't find)
Anyways
Chinese scans are here

In the serialized weekly chapters no, but in some extra guide book thing I think.
Reason why I'm even asking is because I see the anime and it's current subs and think the names of the countries are a bit… off... though the scan I have could also be a result of more engrish + the fact that Mashima (supposedly) mentioned at some point that he plans to keep the story Fiore centric and doesn't even remember the names he gave to the other countries most of the time won't help matters much when it comes to finding the official names for for them...
Wouldn't that just end up making Gerard show up even more?

I'd be willing to sacrifice seeing more of Jello if it meant making Erza the main character of the series. …:P
@Bobjr:
Looks like FT world is based off of Europe a little bit.
I thought that it was pretty obvious from the beginning. Plus, wasn't there a map in something like Chapter 5 that showed Fiore is the Spain of the FT world? EDIT:checks Yep. Chapter 4, Page 2. Del Rey's translation must've been where I saw the thing about Spain. (Or my memory is just messing with me) The map's smaller than I remember, too.
! Well, they are in fact dragon slayers, finaly slaying a dragon!
Chapter out on mangastream. Not a bad one either, if I do say for myself…
The cover is further proof that Charlie goes both ways.
Edit: Best chapter in a long time. The shining moment in this chapter was Migtgun getting owned. Finally, that smug bastard got what he was getting. All this "U will nut touch me, IMA prince" nonsense… Shut the hell up. I hope your fall takes you out for a long time.
As for the end... I guess Dragon Slayers typically have a mad slayer persona or something..
That chapter was rather good, I liked fausts dragon armor and thought that the three DS joining together was rather awesome. Mistgun getting owned like that was a bit dissapointing but it made sense because of that armor being immune to magic and yet not to DS magic. Now for Edo tail to show up and take on the royal soldiers and there legions.
Latest chapter was ok. The random cats face who was struggling to keep Erza in the air made me laugh.
I'm kinda disappointed how Mystogan hasn't had a chance to go all out yet. I'm interested in seeing more of his magic.
So the King went Mecha.
I liked the reminder that this manga was supposed to be Dragon Slayers versus Dragons at some point (like Monster Hunter), but i still can't see where a mechanical armor with the shape of a dragon, controlled by an utter wimp, can be considered a dragon.
Wendy's Dragon Magic has potential (from the looks of it)!
