Debates and discussions like this are just too serious to be in the character tournament. But I think I found a way to solve that problem.

wonder if Oda has something planned for 600. not saying it will be something huge like he has beeen planning and huge event like when reach grandline that 100 did. But you know it has to be tempting when reaching marks like 500, or 600 to throw something special in. Whether its showing a new character or reaching new place, or even doing a small name drop.

he has a neat chance right now of possibly having a crewmate return or all of them or even luffy finally see the thousand sunny, or having the few possibly potential new member canidates join.

Its a flashback, so SOMEONE has to die. Its like, a rule. And given that we know Dadan is still alive currently, and that Ace will have a near death experiance, after which he'll promise Luffy that he'll never die…. Sabo is the first choice so far.

That aside, I can very very easily see this guy showing up again. He'd be Luffy's age after all, and potentially had a ~3 year head start in sailing the ocean.

Plus, he wears goggles, so he'll become a digimon trainer.

Flashbacks are great when read from beginning to end, but they're kind of a drag when you have to wait one week between every chapter, knowing that the main story won't progress meanwhile. :P

thats basically how i feel with op overall. i didnt start it till it was at enis lobby and its one of the best mangas written when read in arcs not chapters.

Best choice would be all three of them almost dying because of Sabo's sabotage and forming a pact to never kill (again, cause Sabo extinguished the lives of an entire pirate crew) as long as all of them live… we~~ll, since Ace is dead now, Luffy is allowed to go berserk and wacko over board whenever he feels an unwavering urge (his mistake that it's only his stomach) and since he'll be or is already 18, unjust extended pedophilia laws can suck our balls! (or clit, optionally different)

At first I was a little annoyed that we were going to have to get what seems to be more than a couple chapters of this flashback that doesn't really progress the storyline. I mean whats the point of having character development to someone who is already dead?

But then I remembered that this is One Piece, and one of the main concepts that Oda tries to impart with this series is not only hopes and dreams but friendships and camaraderie. Not until near the beginning of Marineford did we get any real background information on Ace, someone who obviously had a huge impact in Luffy's life and Oda is not the one to leave something like that untouched. This mini-arc is needed not only to show how Ace evolved into the person he was when we first saw him in Alabasta but also to develop Luffy more as a main character because this is the first real flashback we have seen of him since the one with Shanks.

And to all the people who hate arcs like these because they don't progress the "story", I get it, but One Piece would not be One Piece if we didn't have these. The fundamental grounds in which the series is built on are story-lines like this, and as much as we all want to see the SHs reunited and Fishman Island after all this time, you gotta remember what makes One Piece the kind of Manga that transcends the rest of the shit out there. The ability to go from such a face-paced and epic arc as Marineford to a much slower, less progressive arc like this and still keep up the same kind of intensity that keeps everyone still interested.

Technically this is Luffy's flashback not Ace's. You know Luffy. The main character of the series.

Not really a terribly interesting chapter, but then again the first few set up chapters to most flash backs tend not to be. Looks super promising, just this chapter didn't have much of appeal.

Not a big fan of fighting arcs. Bleach's current arc has been going on for what, 2 - 3 years now?

And it's not like this is some random flashback. This is most probably building up to future story arcs. I think Sabo and Dadan may play large roles in the arcs to come.

The thing about Dadan though, I can't imagine Luffy running into Dadan in the New World, only whenever he eventually visits his home island again. Dadan is a mountain bandit so why should she ever decide to leave Mt. Corbo?

for all you know it could finish in two or 3 more chapters time

that long, because almost every panel had this little "time box"
( 8days later, 1 week later etc. )

Lets not forget that many of the flashbacks have covered months, or even years of time. Nami's past covered her entire childhood, and in depth showed off several weeks. Sanji spent a month starving on that island. Chopper's story certainley covered many many months with Hiriluk, if not years. Brook's showed him going insane for 50 years. Franky's covered the "death" of Cutty Flam and the "birth of Franky and his years of interaction with Iceburg, the Skypeia flashback was… lengthy. Robin's flashback was mostly the events of one day, but she was with Saul for more than that.

They don't all take place in a single day.

This flashback might be covering Luffy's entire childhood from post Shanks up till when Ace left 7 years later, really showing off their brotherly bond. So it has a lot of ground to cover if thats the case.

Not everyone is going to like every chapter or arc that is released. It is reasonable to think that some people don't want a flashback right now, especially after the war and the deaths of two great characters. Many want to see the transformation Luffy will undergo to cope with the recent tragic events. It's not right to bash someone because they don't want to see a flashback right now.

I, for one, appreciate every chapter that Oda gives us…but that's just me and if that's not you then that's fine...I am not going to judge and bash.

And so what if someone likes Naruto? I love Naruto! Just not more than One Piece. You got a problem with that children?

I think this gonna be an interesting flashback… if I can remember right, this is the first that won't be ends with a death of a Mugiwara's close friend. (Maybe that little kid, Ace's friend, but...uh, it's just some stranger, so I don't really care. For now.)

And I just realized after I read the new chapter, that Luffy didn't mocked Usopp back then at Arlong Park, by saying: "I can't lie." He actually have a respect towards Usopp, because of his skill of lieing, because he's so bad at it. At least I think so...
