If Viz got up and finally gave up to date, scanned manga on their own site, i'd never look back to Onemanga. The hit's they'd get… hoo boy
The problem is that it's a lot more difficult to turn a profit just by hosting that stuff online and then trying to sell it to the consumer again. Advertising doesn't pull in enough to make up for the potential loss in revenue if the sales drop. For the more dedicated fans (read: us) that point's moot of course; we're going to get our fix online no matter what. Some then buy the product when it comes out, some don't.
Thing is that the strategy the music and film industry is deploying right now, selling a premium physical medium (extra features, high-def, digital copy, and what have you not) only works to certain extent in the print business. So if they host the stuff online, they can't be sure that the remaining customers that rely purely on the books won't jump ship. If that happens the publishers will have dumped a nice batch of cash on getting the chapter out in time and getting zilch in return. Viz would basically have to come up with either a completely new model or at least have some clever updates for the current content distribution system. And that's costly and difficult in itself.
I'd be able to live with "Oh come my way", Kami, and Zolo.
really
As long as it doesn't grate too bad and disturbs the flow, neither do I.
