Now that i think of it, Teach is the only one we saw who can sense people's haki, does it have something to do with his abnormality.
Chapter 577 "The Incident Continues to Escalate"
-
-
All this mess is Thatch's fault: why did he not eaten the fruit immediately?
Guess he wasn't hungry?
-
i always hated blackbeard idk y but imma have to say its going to be tortur for me to watch luffy ans BB fight in the future(if they ever do)
-
-
@Kairouseki:
Blackbeard fucked the power out of Whitebeard. Imagine what was going on under that tarp  .
Kairouseki… dude. Wtf...
dies
-
I just read the page and it does seem like bb got more than one person inside him
but that was after he took the df
maybe he using the df to absorb people and holding them against their will making them eat fruits and drawing upon the powerOn first thought I liked this theory but it's easy to disprove. It can't explain that he gave Shanks that scar, it doesn't explain that he got twice as old as he should and it doesn't explain how Marco would know about what's going on inside of Blackbeard. Marcos surprise about his devil fruit absorption skills tells me that he has not seen Blackbeard doing this before and Blackbeard probably left Whitebeards crew in a sneaky way, not in a big fight.
-
@Green:
I wonder, in light of this chapter, do Luffy's and Zoro's words here have another meaning?
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/225/16/
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/225/17/"It's not "he", it's "they".
Whatever could that mean? Blackbeard is more than he seems to be?
And for some reason, this is known to everyone who's familiar with Teach, as Marco has pointed out in this chapter.
If we go by the siamese twin theory, somewhere on that body, unbeknownst to us, could be another person. Technically, siamese twins are two different persons in one body. If we accept that Blackbeard is one, then he could, in a way, be allowed to have two devil fruits.
But, let's see and find out.
I would fly to Japan and kiss Oda's feet. Not that I wouldn't have done so anyway but…
-
On the first page after the title page, I notice some people are cheering when they hear of Ace and Whitebeards death.
Is it possible that later in the manga, Luffy may overhear some regular citizens talking bad about Ace and whitebeard? Similar to how Ace overheard the town citizens talking bad about his father.
I wonder how Luffy would react to that.
Are those people cheering or in shock?
Regardless, similar to what Crocodile stated in Impel Down, Whitebeard had a ton of enemies, but this is natural when you are on top.
-
-
I know it says that he can have 2 at once because of his "unique body" but that doesn't explain how he obtained it in the first place. I think it's a solid theory, what about you?
Where in the Manga does it say this?
Marco was simply guessing when he stated that Teach's abnormal body could be the reason why he can have more than one Devil Fruit.
I wonder if there is something special about the cloak he used or was it simply something used to hide the technique Teach used?
The more I read the posts on here, the more I am starting to bye into this whole "2 bodies/2 personalities" theories.
Just maybe the Yami Yami no Mi is perfect for Teach because it allows you to absorb Devil Fruits but this would be useless for a normal person but because Teach has an abnormal body, the Devil Fruit is perfect.
The would explain why he waited so long to obtain the Yami Yami no Mi and also what Marco said about his body being unique.
-
Soooo, assuming Teach does have the ability to absorb another Devil Fruit, which one does he get next?
Off the top of my head, if it were me, I would try to get Kizaru's Devil Fruit.

If this was indeed about Teach it would be awesome!
-
If this was indeed about Teach it would be awesome!
Yep, I agree.
I wasn't around AP when this chapter came out, but I wonder if there was a huge discussion on here or was it chalked up to a bad translation?
Also, I still wonder how Zorro and Luffy were able to figure it out? Is it something superficial or is it some type energy that Blackbeard gives off that makes it appearant that he is abnormal?
-
I assumed that they were talking about his crew.
-
i wonder why teach had to hide how he exactly gets the ability..
i mean it seemed a bit weird that his crew pulled over that cloak to cover those two..
having here a mistery sounds idiotic, cause who would be able to do it without the yami-yami-no mie…
so i don`t get the reason behind it. -
-
man blackbeard really is going to be unstoppable. now when he pulls you in he can shoot a earthquake at you if you try to use some huge attack on him. you will hit the earthquake head on too since you can't escape the blackhole. he can be on offense and defense at the same time. i don't think kizaru could do much to him either since he would shoot an earthquake at him and disrupt his df and then pull him in and take away his power. now when blackbeard grabs you it really is the end on the line for pirates. one grab and then he nails you with a gigantic earthquake. i really do hope he kills an admiral here. an admiral or at least sengoku.
-
So after about 300+ chapters of HATING Black Beard being the End Boss, I'm starting to gradually accept it, although painfully mind you.
I still know how Luffy is going to beat him, so it's w/e : P
I wouldn't be too sure. Akainu said he was gonna kill Luffy and he was true to his word with Ace so maybe Oda got sick of the happy-go-lucky strawhats all the time and for the continuation of the manga he's gonna focus on the badass Blackbeard crew who are also actual pirates!

The most intriguing thing that happened in this chapter is Teach hiding this technique.
Blackbeard is a braggart and showoff, so it would seem odd that he would do this.
Just maybe what happened underneath that cloak is the key to defeating him or if may allow other special individuals to mimic this technique?
-
Blackbeard's flag would seem to suggest 3 in one. I'd be shocked if "It's not he… It's they." comment wasn't foreshadowing given the flag. He might obtain a 3rd fruit power.
-
What? When was this said?
He is referring to what Ace said to Blackbeard when he confronted him on Banaro Island.
I don't remember Ace's exact words.

Didn'T Ace say something like "You've been in this business twice as long as me."?
-
Don't know if it was already mentioned, but looking at Avaro's hands it seems they are machine guns… not very drill-like.
-
Didn'T Ace say something like "You've been in this business twice as long as me."?
Hmmm, I thought Ace and Blackbeard had that exchange in the link below, but someone posted a different translation.
-

This was discussed in the spoiler thread or something. Specifically, Ace says Teach had lived "twice the life". It was very strange phrasing that was emphasized in the text, so I doubt we've been shown what it meant yet.
-
Hmmm, I thought Ace and Blackbeard had that exchange in the link below, but someone posted a different translation.
Yeah, I just checked that and the offical german translation.
In the german one he says:"You've been around much longer, you know what this means."
-
Is Zoro wearing a Red Wings shirt?
-
Yeah, I just checked that and the offical german translation.
In the german one he says:"You've been around much longer, you know what this means."
When I read the other translation, what I took from it was that Blackbeard was asking Ace why he was confronting him and Ace basically replied that Blackbeard had been a pirate and maybe a member of the Whitebeard's crew a loooong time before Ace arrived, so Teach should stop playing stupid when he asked Ace why he is here.
-
Blackbeard Puffs… Now doubly fruity! ba-dum, ching
Blackbeard couldn't be more fruity if he became an Okama! ba-dum, ching
Blackbeard is... uh... fat. ba-dum, ching
Okay, no more posts when about to go to sleep. -
Shichibukais finally get their panels.
Rayleigh is well & alive
and Pandaman makes an appearance again! -
Ha…I was kind of looking forward to seeing Blackbeard rise in power throughout the series, growing parallel to the Strawhats until he became the world's greatest threat. But, I'm not exactly disappointed to see it happen sooner then later. I also don't like that all the marines just stood around while BB did whatever he did, but whatever. I guess the real strong marines were busy.
This arc just keeps getting better! I hoped this would happen and here it is! Despite all the marines have done, in the end their crooked deals backfire, and in one move Blackbeard has screwed over both the marines and Whitebeard pirates. I love seeing the looks on their faces now that there's a new user of the devil fruit from their old greatest enemy. Who predicted that Blackbeard would be the real winner of this war? Probably...a lot of people actually. No real surprise. Yet, I still wonder what else is to come?
-
the show BB was talking about was to start his era..
iam wondering what he will now do..WAR! still isnt over..the admirlas try to prevent that luffy escapes (ehhm where is kizaru?) and i can
t imagine BB just saying right now..
"okay ,byebye we go for now..see ya later"still my prediction is that he will face garp or maybe sengoku to end that old era once and for all.
-
There are two things I could notice from Black Beard.
Here you could see how he changes his voice, 0:20, when he is going to attack someone.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/576/09/
At first I though he was just begging for his life, in this part; but I believe probably is that one of his other personalities appeared.
My guess is that, either BB has split personalities or maybe he has other people or souls inside him.
Another thing is, that the first time he appear, he talked about Luffy's ambition. So maybe he can sense "haki" as well. -
I know there's a shitty "general Blackbeard thread" but I have always preferred smaller centralized discussions about interesting topics, so here goes.
This shouldn't be merged till we at least cover all the points revealed in the recent chapter.
FYI, I merged this thread for a few reasons. The primary being that this is more or less the main topic of discussion for this chapter. Another being that the chapter has only been out a short amount of time, and we wouldn't want to potentially spoil anything for anyone. Anyway, carry on…
-
I just noticed something in this page.
Oda seemed to have mistook Lafitte's place for Burgess'… what do you think?
http://www.mangastream.com/read/one_piece/577-69/13
Look at the left side panels. Focus on the location of Lafitte and Burgess when they remove the colored/black cloth.
http://www.mangastream.com/read/one_piece/577-69/14
Jesus' is back at Basco's side again in this page.
-
Thanks Aohige_AP for the translations
I don't even know what to say, everyone has weighted in over the last 30 pages.
This chapter is so good though.
It's giving all the One Piece fans a chance to go back through time and look at all the counters of Blackbeard and see if there are any hints or clues about his power.Just when I thought Oda couldn't make us go back any further through his Manga!
Just brilliant story telling!
-
Why didn't any of the marines at least try to shoot BB and crew while they were doing the black tarp thing?
Oh wait they all learned offensive strategies from Sengoku. 1. Stand there. 2. Stare.
-
How…how the hell could BB do that?... I really can't put what I'm feeling into words, I have been mindfucked...
-

thats normal..everyone wants to be at his side
-
That poor farmer is really having a rough day.

Ain't no party like a Basco part cuz a Basco part don't stop!
-
Are those people cheering or in shock?
Regardless, similar to what Crocodile stated in Impel Down, Whitebeard had a ton of enemies, but this is natural when you are on top.
The people in the top panel at the center are cheering.
-
Oh right, one more thing. Can we finally drop the glowing orb is hacki idea, now? Blackbeard makes it pretty clear that it's just the quake fruit at work.
-
That poor farmer is really having a rough day.
My, there are a lot of earthquakes today…
-
BB's flag has three skulls.
Edward, Tatch and Teach; All three are the names names of Blackbeard.Blackbeard stole a DF from Tatch, and also WB. There might be room for one more :ninja:

Another thing is, that the first time he appear, he talked about Luffy's ambition. So maybe he can sense "haki" as well.I personally believe blackbeard is not completely acting on his own accord. Maybe the reason why he can absorb more than one fruit is because he has more than one soul to forfeit. The soul of Thatch, Davy Jones, and his very own. He may forfeit a soul to each devil fruit. I mean Thatch body was never found he was just believed to have been killed he very well could have been absorbed or had his soul sold to Davy Jones.
I know this may sound crazy but what if that random outburst he had during that Whitebeard fight was from Thatch who had taken hold of him for few seconds. Davy Jones is probably the most dominant soul right at this point he slowly has indoctrinated Teach this whole time . Every time we see Teach he looks a little crazier than we last saw him.
-
Just starting reading the chapter and wanted to point out…
On the cover page, I think there is an angel on Zoro's shirt. Or some kind of bird. xD I don't know, I thought it was cute. -
That's weird, we got the panels for all the remaining Shichibukai except Hancock, and where is Kizaru?
-

That seems plausible the only soul he has left to forfeit is his own . He covers the world in darkness, make it quake at his presence, maybe his last or first fruit was a mystical zoan inu inu model : Cerberus. ( three headed dog of Hades) A common theme in literature dealing with Cerberus is that a human overcomes him and gaining access to the underworld. Somebody like Blackbeard has enough will and strength to pull of such a feat. I mean he gains the power of the Underworld ( Yami Yami no mi) and now he has the power to destroy the earths surface ( Gura Gura no mi) . We all know Marco said he a strange body I wonder what did he mean by that.
-
@Kairouseki:
I assumed that they were talking about his crew.
At that time, it did seem like it, yes. But, looking at it now, it isn't really clear what were they talking about. Why would Luffy and Zoro bother pointing out that Blackbeard had his own crew?
To me at least, their statement seems to be related to events in this chapter. It might be a clue that could explain us Blackbeard's ability to have two devil fruits.
But, judging by Marco's words, we might get the explanation in the next chapter.
