That spoiler is 100% fake. Apprentice hasn't posted anything thus far on Shin Koukai mobile bbs, it's just a dime a dozen usobare by some anon making it appear as if something had been posted by the Apprentice (due to the restrictive nature of the mbbs it's slightly tougher for people to verify and a easy opportunity to dupe people) Aohige, myself and most importantly Kaze1080 who can, in part, visually confirm the existence of a real Apprentice drop have confirmed there is no spoiler, though that's not to say there won't be one soon.

So maybe it boils down to Shanks and Mihawk are both of such a level, they needed to wield their swords with both hands to have an interesting fight between them. (Mihawk has been using both hands to wield his giant sword, after all)

So Shanks may still have the same level of strength as he did, (and thus be overwhelming to any given lesser opponent) and he may even still have his good main swordfighting arm, but his skill dropped just enough for absolute top tier Mihawk to lose interest.

He lost his left arm, for what that's worth. In Romance Dawn (when he still has two arms) he eats with his left hand, but his sword is on the right side and he grabs it with his right hand during his 2nd meeting with Higuma. I guess I've always just assumed that he's right handed but I suppose I have no proof for that. Either way I don't really see proof anywhere to suggest that he's left handed, either.

Better fights are usually done when somebody has a problem. Makes the fight more interesting. And I personally don't think that Shanks even wants to be the Pirate King.

Assuming he lacks kingbition, after recent chapter developments, could be a single conclusive reason as to why he couldn't be one. Lack of a crew (as you mentioned) is the other very good reason for it that we've been aware of for a long time.

Rayleigh talked about meeting Shanks 10 years ago in sabaody and that was after Shanks met Luffy. It's doubtful he was a Yonkou then. Why do pirates crews stop in Sabaody if not to get their ships coated before entering the New World ?

No I don't think Shanks was a Yonkou yet when he saved Luffy.
He was a very powerful pirate who wasn't quite ready yet to conquer the New World.
When he left, he was ready and went directly to the Grand Line, entered the New World after his meeting with Rayleigh and established himself as a major powerhouse. I don't how long that took him. Probably a year or so.

There's really no other way to get to the New World from East Blue, no matter how awesome of a pirate a person might be. Even if he traveled through the Calm Belt, he still has to cross the Red Line. We've been led to believe that Fishman Island is the only way to do that while keeping the ship. Reverse Mountain can cross the other side of the Red Line, but spits you out on the first half regardless.

Shanks could have just stopped at Shabondy to party, it's what he likes to do. He already had his crew so I don't see why he couldn't have been a yonkou already. We simply don't know.

People in the New World especially on WB's crew knew who he was. For obvious reasons. And he had those duels with Mihawk.

The people in Fushia (probably) already witnessed people like Garp and Dragon… I doubt they would be surprised if a Yonkou dropped by. At least Woop Slap and Makino are aware of Luffy origins as Woop stated he doesn't understand the current 3 generations in the Monkey D. clan although he doesn't deny that each one of them is special because he asked himself whether Luffy becoming a Pirate king was a dream to Luffy or his destiny/fate.

Sure, he probably had world famous status, already. That doesn't automatically mean that he was an Emperor, though. He certainly wasn't ruling over the New World at the time.

Though given the fuss about "Shanks meeting whitebeard" it does seem pretty likely that him crossing the line would have been news, even if it was incognito through the fishman island route, so I guess he hasn't crossed the barrier lately. Because of that it's most likely Shanks has been in the New World for a while, but its not a set-in-stone sort of thing.

Really, its hard to gauge since the entire OP story has only taken about a year at this point.

Well, Mihawk is a special case because he rides around in a dinghy that he could just carry over the Red Line if he really wanted to. As for Shanks, he was almost certainly a big shot before he met Luffy based solely on the stories about his duels with Mihawk when he still had both middle fingers. I don't believe he was an Emperor due to location, but a big shot? Yes.

I assume he was a big shot at Fushia without their knowledge, as he'd already fought against parts of Newgate's crew after Roger's death (I'm assuming Teach didn't give him that scar when he was a rookie), so he had to have been in the New World as a captain.

Definitely the former. When Shanks met Whitebeard, he said how he was surprised when he heard how he lost his arm. The fact that he said that means Shanks was big news even back then to have gotten Whitebeard's attention.

About Shanks, I think we don't know enough about him, as everyone says. He must have ambition, he has the kings disposition, so he must want something.

I pretty much understand, or at least I think do, what everyone is saying. I was thinking about the responses about this New Era that's coming up thanks to the death of WB, and the symbolism that means. And I do understand you Choperman. I think what you're trying to say is that if WB lives, the story would be dissatisfying, because there would be no source of tension. The entire WB War Saga would have felt meaningless.

But about the New Age, didn't Blackbeard say that that "New Era" is worthless? I think in the anime his exact words was that it was "shit". Is WB dying for the creation of this New era? But that wouldn't make sense. Why would WB on the side of the protagonists going to die for the antagonists?

Well, maybe he will physically die but the "Era", that is the "Great Pirate Age" will live on in Luffy, Ace and Blackbeard, and everyone else. So WB would never symbolically die. The New Age which Donflamingo speaks of will never come. The case maybe that the Great Age of Pirates, symbolizing all of the current Pirates search for One Piece started by Roger, becomes the Golden Age of Pirates started by Luffy?

I know I make a few jumps in logic with Luffy. But I was thinking that the Pirate King starts the age, and Luffy will end up like Roger. But this brings up the question of whether Luffy will die like Roger in the end of OP. Well, that's off topic I guess, but interesting I suppose.

There's some precedent for bigger fish hanging out in smaller towns. Even Roger's home was at the start of the journey... Also, at WHAT point is the Yonkou title bestowed? Especially considering its an honorary title, not an official one. At what point of power, fame and influence specifically do you earn yonkou rank? Why are there just 4?

And I agree that Shanks PROBABLY got his title later, but... that early in might have been possible.

And at what point were the Shichibukai formed? Was it always those 7 members? Could there be 8 or 9 if they had willing volunteers? Are these positions that go back 50 or 300 years, or are they as recent as after Roger's death?

Probably the same way anything starts. Four captains/crews begin to build power but don't take each other out, and people begin referring to them as the Four Emperors by principle alone. Much like how we refer to Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy as the Monster Trio.

I always took it as getting as far away from Newgate as possible while still being in the Grand Line.

It's almost certainly just pure strength + being based in the new world. You probably get the recognition when your pirate ship meeting an emperor gives the marines a coronary. I doubt the number four is set in stone.

To become an Emperor you have to pass the Emperor exam. It's a grueling set of tests that ends with an obstacle course.

The fact that Kaido felt confident enough to take out the White Beard Pirates and the fact that Shanks felt confident enough to try and stop a guy who felt confident enough to take out the Whitebeard Pirates prove that the Yonkous are primarily all monsters and that there's not much discrepancy in power between them.

Which makes you wonder what the 4th Yonkou is up to.

EDIT: Also, may I add, if Whitebeard dies, then not only is the Straw Hat Pirates (and other new pirate crews) go into the New World, there'll also be a new era.

We got only the Marine interpretation of the event and not the real deal. Kaidou could as well have wanted to speak with Whitebeard about this War and stop him from commiting suicide because he is interested in the current equlibrium of forces.
For now, no one can be certain.

Sure Shanks could never be as strong as he could have been with both arms, but it matters not, because he is as strong as Oda wants him to be, no matter how many limbs he loses or how many scratches his eyes get.

I'm not really doubting you on this, but I am doubting the source. I haven't seen it, and until I do I'll have a hard time believing it exists.

Widely accepted? It's a fun little theory, but I think you're going a bit (a lot) overboard on the certainty of it.
