Nah like those guys a page before i hope he actualy loses, he obviously isnt ready to go up another step on the world ranking.
Not that im denying it would be nice to see that monkey hospitalized with some broken ribs.

That will be the only part I will rave about.
I'll never say it was a good fight, even if Ippo comes back and just rapes woli. it will still be one of my least favorite fights.
It's funny how had Woli been some super experienced boxing legend instead of an inexperienced rookie, people wouldn't be having any problems with this fight EVEN though Woli's been built up to be world ranker level.
But no, people expected a beatdown and they're complaining about the fight even though its their fault for having such inflexible preconceptions and not paying attention to the blatant build-up.
@Thousand:

Why yes if it had been a super experienced boxer with an established skill set it wouldnt have been a problem. Instead of a rookie who apparently has so much "talent" that he's been able to go without any training straight from the jungle to a single digit ranker in three fights. All the while landing high level skill after high level skill without ever having seen them before.
It's just like when you i was a kid and you were playing cops and robbers, you'd say i shot you and the other kid would at the spot make up something and say like "no you didnt because i had magic armor on". That's pretty much Woli, whenever he is in a jam he'll pull whatever he needs straight out of his ass. Like how he with one attempt mid-fight he masters the flicker.
It's bullshit.
I'd hate it even if Woli were instead said to be a legend instead of a rookie. I hate his fight style. It does nothing to resemble boxing, and it's a ridiculous hodgepodge of moves all over the place. And even if he were an experienced boxer, he'd still be an annoying, smug asswipe.
Frankly, I want Ippo to crumple this guy. I want him in a coma, so I never have to see or hear of him again.
@Syan:

Well the whole monkey buisness is kind of weird. But what i really hate is how he has no established skills set, he just takes whatever he needs at the moment.
Even with the world champions Takamura faced, they atleast had a speciality that they stuck to. And polished to a deadly weapon. Woli being the mary sue that he is has everything he just needs to think about it.
So I just came to this notion.
I'm predicting a heart break shot attempt. Maybe not this chapter, but soon.
^ That would be awesome. I'd be all for Ippo taking the HBS from Date. He did get Date's baton. If Ippo were able to steal his opponent's time… shudder
Wouldnt a heartbreak shot require him to corner Woli first? Which at this point seems unlikely. Personaly i think Woli will turn out to be a lightweight at taking punishment, and once the pain kicks in it's going to affect his mind.
A heart break shot to paralyze him and a Dempsey role to finish him off.
Match set.

Well, as we all know, Woli is an inexperienced boxer with only three matches under his belt, so we all know he doesn't have much of a style except for "freedom" (( soo gay)) which doesn't incorporate much blocking. and sinch they're exchainging blows in Ippo's range this is his best opportunity. IMO. P:

You know? I'd love to see the Dempsy Roll again, but remember the doc said never to use that Tech. because of they way Ippo uses it it puts tremendous strain on the back.((or more correctly, the lower spine, I think..?))

Whuh? Really ?

Whuh? Really ?
Yeah, remember way back, When Ippo fought against Sawamura. The title's called "Possibilities of a Figure 8". Chapter 497. and the best example would be chapter 501 entitled "Devastating Anti-Counter" and if you keep reading to 502 it explains why he cant use it anymore.
I believe after that match he had to seal the dempsy. But now that I read it over again ,it is more of his legs that get injured. He could have perfected it to where he doesn't injure himself, but we didn't have a training arc for that so I doubt we'd see it, but you never know.
EDIT: btw this was probably my favorite match for Ippo.

Didn't he use some superior Dempsey Role against Jimmy Shisfa that goes sideways and up and down?

hhmm, you know I dont remember too well, to be honest. xD there are so many chapters to go back and look through to reference xD
Damn it! Is Ippo still incompetent?
I stopped reading Ippo for a while after that one fight he had with the guy who had the loose glove on purpose. At that point, it became clear to me that the author was actually undoing Ippo's development.
In the beginning, Ippo's trademark IMO was that he always had an ace up his sleeve and he was always learning. Now, Ippo is completely reliant on the Coach, and whines about wanting to be stronger all while sniffing at Miyata's behind. Ok, that's a little harsh. Anyways, I want Ippo back in a position where he seems like a Belt Champion. Why is it that so many other characters can have this and Ippo has been reduced to still having a rookie mentality. I'm not asking for Ippo to become Takamura, but Personalities and Abilities are not one and the same. Ippo can continue to be a baby in interviews and interactions verbally with his opponents. But when the bell rings, I want a freaking Monster to leap out of the corner. I don't think it's too much to ask after 800+ chapters of development.
Either way, I'm not caught up on this current fight, but it seems much hasn't changed since I last graced the pages of HnI.
On the other hand, there are plenty of other boxers' fights that I've enjoyed. Even the Miyata vs. Randy Boy Jr fight, which is the last fight I've read to date. Looks like I have some catching up to do.

Read the chapters right before this match, you'll see he acts like he's a world ranker.
But then when he fights it's like; "omg coach halp!? D:" from a character that I'm almost posotive no one likes at all.

Too bad that coach dont have anything to offer for Ippo at this point, all he can do is hope for the best and yell ''keep it up! just take that beating lul''
And between fights its just more of running, endurance training and hitting sandbags.
They are such a great duo indeed.

Hahaha, I see what you did there :) That's funny because I said it first.
Well, let me add that I also said this.

And that Monster is supposed to be Ippo.
I interrupt this current events discussion to bring you an update of my catching up on the manga.
!
He's like the embodiment of sleaziness.
God i envy you, you've got the best fight in the series ahead of you.
fuck I'ma go re-read or re watch ((can't decide)) the at whole fight.

Its interesting when you get to the point of Takamura's next match after Bryan Hawk. You get this feeling on voting on the JeRk's side.
And your right, IMO he is more sleazy than Takamura.
You know, technically what Bryan did wasn't boxing either:/

oh man I am just after this in the anime, the fight is going to be so good
@Thousand:

Suppose not, but in his defense he was based on the flashiest bastard to ever hit the ring.
Not to mention he had a pre-set style, no crappy Go Bryan freedom for that bad boy. That and yknow he had personality.
I wish I had one
one of the worst bond movies ever created.
hawk was like the evil sleazy version o.g mike in the early days

He's a beefed up, crueler version of Prince Naseem. The resemblence is uncanny:ninja:
God i envy you, you've got the best fight in the series ahead of you.
Was this directed at me? or someone else. Kinda wasn't sure.
Nah it was to the guy who had just gotten to the pre-Hawk fight sheenanigans.
But i suppose im also kinda envious of the fact that you can dance and i cant, but that's a whole nother topic:ninja:
got to the Hawk fight in New Challenger going through the series one episode a day and ended up finishing the series thanks to Takamura vs Hawk XD
it was too good
it can never bee too good.
this fight is getting ridiculous.
So ippo is just a 2nd/3rd tier fighter.
what can he still do to win with a little grace.
I need my bones to be torn to just scratch him. hahaha ridiculous.
That was actually pretty satisfactory. It would have been lame if beating Woli was as easy as throwing a compact punch. And I don't see why losing to this mini-Bryan Hawk constitutes as being second rate.
Welp, my predictions were for the most part correct.
/sigh
:/
lame chapter.

Yeah true it is a logical continuation but still I do not like it.
I don't like it at all. Every time Ippo won, it was due to his natural talent (focus/stamina/force/believe in his coach/etc..) but now it seems he'll need a lucky punch to win this one. I am not satisfied but maybe it can change - the match isn't over yet.

Owhooo didn't see that one, never heard of that guy. Wow I am not a big boxing fan but maybe that ll have to change.

I dunno, from the looks of it, Ippo is gonna beat him with some new, super compact style.
Personally, these past few chapters have been agonizing. Watching Ippo get pummeled this much is pretty disheartening. At least it's not as annoying as the Magician fight.

ah ok. Yeah, the Takamura vs. Hawk fight was pretty sweet. another fight I enjoyed was Mashiba vs. Sawamura.
whatever happened to that dancing thread… seems like it just danced itself away LOL :ninja:

Is the magician fight the one with the guy who has the loose glove?
Because, this fight made me not want to read Ippo any longer, and I continued because I had to see what was gonna happen with Miyata and Randy Boy Jr.
I really hope Ippo doesn't go the way of Bleach.

Ippo has a LONG way to go before it gets that bad. I wouldn't say that Ippo is getting redundant or anything. It's just hard to watch this since we know that Ippo has become a great boxer, even since the spar with Ricardo Martinez. To be hit with such a downer after the huge rush from Miyata's fight may want to make you stop reading for a whle, but I think the author didn't want people to write off this fight and let Miyata remain in the spotlight 20 chapters after his fight is over. Maybe it's because Wally (however you want to spell his name) doesn't seem like an intimidating character, but if that's the case I'd say that the author did a great job on his character design. If anything I think this fight is an opportunity for Ippo to grow outside the training Coach Kamogawa has beaten into him. The suspense is gut wrenching, so this plot arc is great so far, we just don't know it yet. :)

This, I have a bad feeling it might come to him throwing a similar punch to the one Miyata threw at the end of his last fight(probably wont be as cool though) but I digress if it does happen at least something good came out of this fight and ippo won't rely on his coach as much n further his own style as many have stated before
Owhooo didn't see that one, never heard of that guy. Wow I am not a big boxing fan but maybe that ll have to change.
Naseem is an excellent gateway into becoming a boxing fan, you can appreciate his showmanship even if your not even the least bit into it. And from there on when you've wet your appetite a bit you can expand into other fun to watch current fighters like Hatton, Pacquiao or Mayweather.
another fight I enjoyed was Mashiba vs. Sawamura.
That one is going to be magical when it gets animated. It's just not the same without Mashibas voice to it all.
whatever happened to that dancing thread… seems like it just danced itself away LOL :ninja:
We had a dancing thread?:ninja:
Wow, for some reason, the current chapters in this manga are getting me pumped up while others are becoming disheartened.
Notice that Woli is destroying every one of Ippo's tactics and techniques while crippling his stamina and balance. Haven't we seen that before? Hint: Miyata vs Randy.
This is the match in which Ippo's going to evolve.

Hope so, Ippo has not progressed as fighter since Sawamura fight.
