If you manage to find it you'll probably have to spend a couple grand to get it. I don't want to imagine shipping on a arcade machine. XD
Fist of the North Star
-
-
You're already dead.
-
Whenever a Fist of the North Star video game is brought out I gotto always point out how awesome this game was:
qspgIKgExew
I didn't knew what Fist of the North Star was, I still haven't seen or read a single episode or chapter of Fist of the North Star but one summer that game basicly burned a big hole in my wallet.
If they ever made a Street Fighter game like that (a non canon side story even) I'd be broke in minutes…

That game was fun as hell.
It's even better when you really start getting into it, and end up screaming "WAAAATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAAAA!!" along with Kenshirou. XD

Who cares about Europe, when's it coming to America?
-
Seriously, this game and red dead redemption and I'm not going to need to buy a game until Diablo 3 comes out.
SO FUCKIN AWESOME -
I wonder if the soundtrack will be called "Sounds of Skin-tight Leather".
-
So my friend linked me to the trailers of this game, and now I must have it. Been reading the manga, and watching the episodes of the manga chapters that weren't scanlated yet. If it doesn't come out in America soon enough, I just might have to import this from Europe if my friend is gonna do the same. Hope that there's a co-op mode.
-
So apparently…playing as more characters from the series in the game requires you to BUY them as DLC =/
Here's hoping the EU version will have a special edition with all characters unlocked @3@ -
Dunno how relevant and true this is, but Destructoid pretty much confirms a US release. Except it will be might be delayed because
! they might be making it MORE violent
I'm even more hyped for this game now. Stupid that is has to be delayed for that to some degree, but it's also awesome to some degree. -
The new trailer looks great.
I really couldn't fault what I've seen so far.
-
Making it MORE violent?
AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!
-
Hahaha, more violent than it's country of origin . I seriously cannot wait for this game to come out. I hope the fighting system is better than Dynasty Warriors, though. -
that makes me happy. And totally diminishes my desire to import it
Keep the goddamn japanese track you bastards!! For the LOVE OF GOD!
despite that… more violence? like more blood? or actually some better gore? hmm hmmm??
Perhaps nanto characters will ACTUALLY dissect their opponents?
instead of having them disappear in a flash of red :getlost:at least when a hokuto user uses a technique the bulge up and explode
-
The You wa Shock! remix in this game is well done.
Looking forward to kicking ass with my homie Thouther. -
We gots ourselves a US release.
Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage
Fall 2010Will be shown at E3 next week.
-
FUCK YES!
Hopefully when it comes out, my desire to play videogames won't alread be dead. I'm finding less and less time to actually finish my backlog.
-
-
Awesome. That is all.
Edit:
@Ichnob:Hopefully when it comes out, my desire to play videogames won't alread be dead.
This is amazing .
-
Good to hear that its getting a US release. Kinda odd that they didn't time it with the DVD release for the Toei anime but oh well.

This game is great. Totally recommended for anyone who liked GOD HAND for PS2, it's basically just a Koei/DW take on that. Same specific type of very slow and "awkward" timing-based brawling, ugly graphics, exaggerated effects, coupled with a few different playing styles (North Star, South Star, Mamiya's Style) and such. Very very old school and you'll be be screaming with rage every time you unleash your built-up power bar only to find that the boss just started his unblockable special attack, or every time you waste a special attack because you were actually facing three inches to the left of the target.
I realize that sounds like me bashing it but it's part of what makes the game fun. Pretty tough, too.

….........fun.

Lol at Stephen. It looks pretty cool from the trailers, though it does look pretty repetitive. I most likely won't buy it when it first comes out. They should have a gameplay mechanic where you can target specific pressure points on the fly.
-
Looks like the Western release is having some improvements done:
http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6266395/fist-of-the-north-star-kens-rage-impressions
The version we saw today was still the Japanese build of the game, but the developer promised us that the mindless enemies would be given more thoughtful AI, and the violence would be made even more extreme.
Nice.
-
Yeah, we already know that the American release is going to be more violent. I wish that they'd actually make the enemies burst and fall over instead of just exploding, though. Better AI is cool, though.
-
Well, to clarify what I was saying, when I play the more traditional DW or DW Gundam games, I usually just turn off my brain and mash the attack button. To really be an expert you have to be smarter than just that, but the game is designed so that you don't have to think if you don't want to. But even on normal difficulty with FOTNS you can't just sit back and spam SQ SQ SQ SQ SQ O, SQ SQ SQ SQ SQ O. It'll fuck you up if you try that, and you really do have to watch the bosses and learn their patterns or you won't beat them. So it does force you to learn the system pretty quick, which I appreciate.
-
Game is dated for the US now. November 2, 2010. I'm… gonna wait. I'm sorry, we all know this game is gonna sink like a rock. Hopefully that signals affordability, not rarity, but I can't imagine they're gonna print many copies of the game.
-
Awesome. If this is seriously anything like GH then I can't tell you how happy I'll be next month.
-
Must… have... now...
-
The amount of playable charactes is really low, especially by Koei standards. I mean, it won't be as much as Dynasty/Samurai Warriors, but you can at least get nearly thirty characters, not counting the second series, out of the show.
-
Demo's out now. Go ATATATATATA that shit!
-
That was much more fun than I thought it'd be. Rei was more interesting to play as since he had a whole level to himself rather than Ken's short boss fight with Jagi.
The English voice acting is pretty funky, though. Kinda reminiscent of the Streamline dub of the movie. It is pretty neat that Japanese is selectable in the demo, though.
I think I'll pick this up when I get the cash.
EDIT: HOLY SHIT they have a cover of Ai Wo Torimodose in the Jagi fight! NICE.
-
Such an amazing game. It's nothing like Dynasty Warriors, at least as far as I could tell, which is good. I'm definitely getting this game, though I'll probably wait for the price to go down.
Edit: Though I think it'd be a lot better if the enemies' blood and guts stayed on the ground all the time, despite what it would do to performance. And Kenshin only had a boss battle in the demo while Rei actually got to fight henchmen  .
-
Played the demo and I'm… disappointed. I know this was always suppose to be Dynasty Warriors with a Fist of the North Star skin, but...
It's Dynasty Warriors with a Fist of the North Star skin.
Same repetitive combat, same unresponsive controls. I was hoping to feel like I stepped into the shoes of Kenshiro, instead it feels like I'm issuing commands to him and waiting to see if he follows them or not. The game doesn't look anywhere near as polished as I was led to believe, either. The less than stellar gameplay, graphics, and sound mixed with the obscureness of the series, I'm gonna say this game... is already dead.
-

Interesting.
But is it as good as Musou Gundam or Samurai Warriors is the real question.
-
I've not played much DW but I've found it more fun than DW. Perhaps it's just the FotNS skin making it better. I've really no clue.
-
Depends on which Dynasty Warriors you play. There's been like 7 games in the main franchise, most of them with branch offs… and then there's Samurai Warriors which is wackier and more creative... and then theres Gundam which has dashing. All are actually pretty different.
They do get repetitive with the troop killing, but its not about that. Its about enjoying the character's move set, the super moves, fighting generals, and slowly unlocking more moves and weapons for a character, and them becoming better and better the more you play them. A slow powerful character with reach, or a fast combo-ey character, or a long distance sniper type, or someone that had good crowd clearing, or someone that's better at general slaying... and then enjoying that aspect of a character that is suited to your style.
And if its attached to a franchise you already like, that goes a long way towards enjoying a character, regardless of how cool or terrible they might be compared ot the rest of the roster. (Just look at the DBZ games.)
-
Buuhan I told you!
It's good…in a really crappy way.
-
The thrill of killing 1000 fodders in one go wears off pretty early in.
Its really about the character you play, rather than the characters you destroy. And usually Koei is REALLY good about providing a ton of variety.
Only 10 characters is a really small selection set for them though. But the first Samurai Warriors only had 15 characters, and they were all incredibly distinct. So hopefully the smaller number=variety.
-
Well, Kenshiro is a heavy character and Rei is light and fast. I'm interested in any other characters if there's going to be any.

According to Gametrailers you can play as Mamiya.
-
Tried the demo..
Eh.. decent, but not really worth it.
-
If I'm bored and got nothing better to rent, I'll probably give it a rent. If not, maybe pick it up in a couple years when it's only a few bucks. But as I mentioned before, I have a feeling this game isn't getting a large print, so it could end up rare for all I know.
-
The demo was good fun.
-
I know the game will get flak for lacking polish and repetitive gameplay. I loved the demo. Finding out that you can smash through the roof during the Jagi battle only to get a cool rendition of ai wo torimodose pumped me up. Finding out that the selection of specials characters can perform when spirit charged was awesome as well. Dunno why people think controls are unresponsive.. worked absolutely fine for me. Very loose and easy to interupt a combo going no where. Loved the increased gore for the western release. Sure one death may not look like much. But when you blast a group of dudes, watching them all blow up is great. Game might not be the best… but it has style and the hokuto touch that actually works for the source material.
But I've ALWAYS said that godhand's battle system would work PERFECTLY for hnk. But this does nicely.

Toki,Raoh,Shin,Souther,Jaggy and Heart/Thug(if pre-ordered,also get 2 extra stages and Ken's original outfit). The only character that I'm wish they put in was Shue.

Feel the same way almost word for word. Controls felt fine, gore was better then it looked in videos, the little surprises in combos and specials, really made me feel like I was playing as a Hokuto/Nanto master. Even though I'm not a big DW fan I still had a great time with this, if anything because I'm playing as characters from one of my favorite series and they so far I feel like they did them justice(little gripes aside). And yes a thousand times, God Hand style gameplay would be perfect for a Fist-based game(considering it borrow themes from it anyway.)
Can't wait to see how the local co-op works, even though it will be split screen. -
I was going around the desert slicing up thugs to the sound of Rei's hissing and whooping, and I thought "I could be playing something else right now, but I'm playing Fist of the North Star."
