Right now the DVD releases are a fourth of a season each. Does anyone know if Funimation will eventually release a DVD release containing a full season a bit cheaper for those willing to wait? They did this exact same thing with Avatar: The Last Airbender (Not an anime, I know), so I'm wondering if it will be done with One Piece as well.

I personally haven't seen anything about it but I think if they do it it won't be for a while - like, probably not anytime this year but MAYBE, MAYBE next year or 2011. It would be a good question for a convention panel or the ToonZone forum, where they have a Funi rep who answers questions.

Well, 28 episodes of YYH eventually got an MSRP of like $35 or something (I think). So 53 episodes could be like $70, $80, $90 - which isn't bad for that many episodes. And most places would sell it for less. Even so, even if it gets into triple digits, I remember paying well over $100 for a 20 episode series. So even like $120 for 53 episodes of OP is kind of reasonable.

Well, Funimation is pretty much skipping the individual DVD release. (Thank Eneru) They're putting it out in sets of 13 episodes across 3 disks. I don't know what they retail for, but I get them online for $35ish.
I'm not sure what their plans are for season sets, especially since there's still no solid standard for what constitutes a "season" of One Piece, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see episodes 1-52 released in a single set by 2011 or 2012.

Retail price is about $50, and it's 2 disks, not 3. And yeayh, thankfully the age has ended where a 100+ ep series gets single volume releases. :D

Not really. Star Trek TOS has 26 eps per season. Given that each episode is 2-3x as long as each OP epsiode it still only averages at £30 per season. Anything more and Funi is just getting greedy.
OP WILL Get a rerelease at some point, FUNi loves them.
You'll prolly see them split into 26-28 Episode Sets.

I really hope so because that's the reason why I've been holding out on buying them…13 episodes on 2 disks isn't enough...give me an 8 disk set of 53 episodes of the East Blue saga and I'll be happy...

Yeah, I mean, after all these years, they still don't have a complete series-box for Fullmetal Alchemist, for example. They only recently released the 26-episode "full season-sets". Granted, that series was originally released in singles, whereas with just about all their newer shows, they skip the single-releases and go straight to half-season-sets, but still, I don't see a full set for the entire East Blue saga being released any time soon.

The most Episodes FUNi has EVER Put onto one DVD boxed set was 39 on DBZ Season 1, and DBZ is their OLDEST License and this is the third or Fourth DVD release of the series, meaning they've already gotten TONS Of money on the series by now, and that's still 14 Episodes Shy of 53 for the whole One Piece season One. And if all you people are right about Season 2 being HORRIFYINGLY Long, then that season would be even worse.
One Piece will only ever get Half-Season Sets at best.
Although, one thing I think FUNi SHOULD be doing, is Season one Fourth Voyage should have come with an Artbox for "One Piece: The Complete First Season" to slide all four Voyages into.
In fact, I think I wana make myself one and have it printed out on HQ Cardstock at Kinkos…

Geneon titles don't count since when FUNi got them, they got all the material without having to shell out ANYTHING for the translation or production WHATSOEVER.
All FUNi has to shell out is DVD production cost, which is chump-change compared to the prices they pay when they actually dub and work on Anime

yes. this. forget EVERYTHING I mentioned before, this would be ideal.
maybe since they are done releasing the first season, Funi will make a collectible set of all 4 voyages in a boxed bundle like mentioned above….but if that does not happen, how would you go about making your own collectible box?
They are releasing the slayer season's into a 70 episode boxset so it probaly will come out but except it to cost 80 bucks or more
The Slayers is another series they inherited.
They got the whole series, with all the work already done, lock stock and barrel.
They had to put no money into the production of anything but the DVDs, so they can do that with that series.

Some seasons in OP are around/over 100 episodes long. Thats…. a bit much for a boxset. I've never even seen like a completely 50 something episode series in one boxset. Funi tends to do things in sets of 12 or 24/25/26/however many there are.
Heh, even if we did somehow get full season releases, I wouldn't be able to afford them as the prices would likely be astronomical! O.o
It's bound to happen if One Piece becomes really popular (and I hope it does), but I personally would like them to stick to these "voyage" releases, since I've been supporting them and buying them all from the beggining :P.
I highly doubt any full season release. I mean, it's one thing for Funi to release a full season set for one of their titles that was released in singles. I mean, most of the titles they've been releasing as full season sets were series that are either old as hell or from other companies from which they acquired the properties. It was obvious that Welcome to the NHK, for example, would be released as a full set after they were released in two half-part sets. I feel that they may just stick to 13 episode sets for pretty much all their properties. But who knows, down the road, when sales are slowing down for some of their titles, they'll do full season sets…but for One Piece? Sadly, that's still doubtful. Hell, the One Piece sets have been getting more expensive (at least where I'm at)...from $35 to $45 now. ><

That's hard to say, but for something the length of Ouran, it may come out sooner or later compared to a gargantuan series like One Piece. It would be nice to know if Funi does intend to make complete sets of series they release in halves. But then, people wouldn't shell out as much cash if they knew all they had to do was wait for the complete collection.
I'm sure that's how they'll do it, though 2 sets of Ouran wasn't a big deal compared to all these freakin season parts for OP. But honestly thats probably the most efficient way to do it. A lot of the seasons are 50 something episodes long. That would take like 8 dvds to make a boxset for that.

You know, I was thinking of doing the same thing. Make a "Season One - The East Blue Saga" Boxed set, and a "Season Two - The Baroque Works Saga" "Season Three - The Skypiea Saga" to slide the voyages into. That'd be nice.

I personally wouldn't mind if FUNimation did like around 30 episodes a set, I mean it would sorta work.
Set 1: Eps 1-30 (ending at the end of Baratie)
Set 2: Eps 31-61 (ending at going up Reverse Mountain after filler)
Set 3: Eps 62-91 (ending at the end of Drum)
Set 4: Eps 92-130 (ending at the end of Arabasta)
Set 5: Eps 131-159 (ending at them entering Upper Yard)
Set 6: Eps 160-195 (ending at the beginning of G8)
and so on
I like funimation but they are to stingy there going to keep releasing the way they are now then there going to start over for blu ray then another box set that is "remastered"
then something like the dragon box just look at there dbz releases
Their DBZ release is not representative of what they usually do.
DBZ isn't digital animation. One Piece is, therefore there's no reason for it to ever be "remastered".

I wouldn't. I'd just line all the individual DVD cases up on the shelf and get rid of the boxes they come in now.
