Well, they didn't give them the Dragon Ball/Z ones until just now…
-
I wonder how many people profreads this sub.
"a battle could break out an Impel Down"….
Sounds like a cool catchphase.
So much for being pros…>.>

what does it matter how it is spelled as long as its pronounced right
-
@Crimson:
But weren't those only on the broadcast version? Remember they had to deal with many of 4kid's changes for that particular part of the series, and as such many of those are probably much different in the official non-edited dubbed version.
Yeah, that was the broadcast version. But as far as I know, neither 4Kids or ViZ had anything to do with Marshall D. Teech, Van Ogre, G. Zass Burgess, or Rafitte. …Did they?
@Demon:This is as annoying as people complaining
because they Romanized "Gin" as "Ghin".Don't forget "Wyper"…
-
@RPG:

lolwut?
I dont like Portugaz D. Ace, but that's just me.
-
The thing with the spellings is that there's no reason to change them. Teach is the pirate Blackbeard is based on so his name should be Teach. Wyper just looks retarded. Ghin I don't mind though :ermm: . Portgaz again looks retarded, and didn't someone here say before that his name is based on a real pirate, Portuguese or something?
-
Maybe its because I never see the episodes at 9pm sharp but I never have even the slightest problems with the simulcast.
Pretty good episode, just Sengoku looked way off to me, and I thought he was darker skinned than that.

Those are all not as bad as the fucktarded spelling mess that is "Eustass Kid". XD
-
I don't understand what you mean.
-
Because he's based off of Eustace the Monk and William Kidd. I've honestly never seen Eustace spelled that way before Oda did it.

It's not a Change, it's an accurate way to romanize the exact same name.
And who cares if he's based on Edward Teach, it doesn't need to be spelled the same.
We call him "Roronoa Zoro" not "l'Ollonais Zoro" don't we?
-
I guess…
Teech just doesn't look right to me.

Seriously, it was an eye sore to look at that.

It's the exact same word with an E there instead of an A. You pronounce it exactly the same, and Oda's never written it down anywhere in English…

Well dont blame me, i've been exposed to Teach so much that if anything else is wrong, it becomes weird.
So this is my first time trying out the stream and tbh it wasnt that bad, no waiting or anything and quality is on par with my standards.

I'm sorry but "a battle could break out an Impel Down" is not a mistake a supposed pro would make.

It's obvious as hell that it's meant to be Teach. You can say it doesn't matter all you want, I don't care, but don't even try to argue or even imply that it could be correct.
-

While that is true, he IS directly named after an actual pirate who's name was "Teach". Both names are spelled the same in katakana. IF Oda had written in in English somewhere, we'd have a definite spelling to work with, but since he hasn't, just randomly changing it from the way the real Blackbeard's name was spelled just doesn't make any sense.
I'm not going to sit here for days and write complaints about the evil of Funimation and Toei, just pointing out how it doesn't make any sense to spell it like this.
(though uh, looking at all the recent bitching about the spelling here, I probably shouldn't have posted it at all)
@Thousand:
I'm sorry but "a battle could break out an Impel Down" is not a mistake a supposed pro would make.
It's a typo. Typos happen, since we're all imperfect human beings. Finding a typo in a publication is hardly a big deal.

It's a simple mistake that just got overlooked; they are only humans after all. (Hell, I probably made a grammar mistake in this post too)

They're supposed to be pros. It hurts their credibility. They're supposed to proof-read their work. This is the same company that does the DVD subs, can you imagine a DVD with amateur mistakes like that?
-
Once again, too many people here just love to bitch over the stupidest shit.
"Teech", "Teach"… "Portgas", "Portgaz" ... a few minor spelling errors? Did everyone forget about, uh, I don't know, just three weeks ago when we DIDN'T HAVE THE SIMULCAST? -

Calm down dude. It's just a minor error that was overlooked. The difference between pro and amature is that pros get paid. A perfect product is pretty much out of the question.

Quick question: If you don't watch the simulcast, why are you in a simulcast discussion?

I am calm, I'm simply pointing out facts.

To laugh at how much people will bend backwards to defend blatant errors on Funi's part as acceptable rather than say, "Hey, they're human so they make mistakes" or "Damn Toei forcing their big bad list on Funi". The latest is "Teech", something that even Funi itself admitted was a mistake.

Ah, thanks. That explains it then.

Plenty of published books have minor typos and mistakes. So do plenty of "professional" DVD subtitles. They're all human errors. Why the fuck wouldn't other people defend a simple mistake as what it is, a mistake?
-

Don't disturb TLC when he's in…
Yeah, it's old, but I don't care. -
^ That will never fail to make me giggle. XD
-
To me "Teech" looks too much like leech.
Wait, Blackbeard's powers include leeching other people's strength and abilities so in a way it works.
Yes I know he was named after Edward Teach but it's a reference and a pun. -
Once again, too many people here just love to bitch over the stupidest shit.

We're not even paying for this. It really isn't bad in the first place.
-
It's only a spelling error.
If they would have called him Marshall D. Breech, then I'd have an issue.
-
wait, people are still responding to that idiot?
-
People see one spelling error and they go crazy. The simulcast is much more accurate than Fansubs, plus it
s legal and FREE. If we have to pay for it by names with 1 LETTER mistakes, then I
m fine with it. -
We must defend our hero:

I

Apparently that's all it takes.

Yeah they do dude. You can go over mountains of grammatical gibberish in each of dozens of instantz releases. Yibis ain't some high mark of quality either.
-
Okay, so many people saying that Teech is okay, it is a valid romanization but it just doesn't look right. How about we spell it Tietch or something like that? It's a valid romanization, it's pronounced exactly the same. Teech is a correct romanization but that doesn't mean it's right.
Now if it's only for the simulcast I'll suck it up but if it's on the DVD too then that's entirely different.
-
It's part of the big bad list. Hopefully, it's something that'll be changed later for the DVDs, but for now it seems to be stuck.
Shut up.

I don't care what your reasoning behind doing it is, just stop. It's pointless. And to go further into you attempted argument, no fansub group is perfect. Not any I am in, not any of the ones I like, not any of the ones I dislike. Even if you have 3-4-10-20 people look over a script, there is always some stupid little error that is overlooked and when you see it later in the final product you do a facepalm because it sees so obvious then. I admit I haven't seen enough of Yibis to comment, but I am sure a few accidental errors slip through. And don't even get me started on the countless typos in Instanz' releases. Vegapunk screwed themselves over with trying to release a "perfect new vegapunk release" or whatever and taking months to do one episode, and I have a feeling even after all that work one little dumb error will slip through.
So in the end, do you waste time bitching and complaining over such stupid errors, especially if you don't know what rules they have to abide by. Or do you just move on and hope the next release has less of these human errors? Obviously you picked the high road along with countless others, and it makes me feel like you've all got OCD or something.

Ok, from now on, Zoro is "l'Ollonais Zoro". It has to be because that's the spelling the pirate he was named after was used.
And Ace needs to be "Portugues D. Ace" Now, because that's the way you spell the Pirate he's named after.
Seriously, Slightly altering the way the name is spelled without changing the way it's Pronounced isn't a Big Deal of Oda never wrote it out. For all we know, Oda could have MEANT to make it "Teech" The Same way he slightly screwed with the Spellings of Ace and Zoro's Namesakes.
As long as you pronounce it the same, the Reference is still apparent. -
I had never heard that Ace was based off of a real pirate, but I do think we should start using Portugues until Oda romanizes it (unless he already has :ermm: ). And Roronoa was romanized so that's what it's supposed to be.
-

I'm saying until Oda Romanizes "Tiichi" it could be either, so it's not worth griping about. Just like "Portgaz" actually IS accurate, because sometimes they do that with an S and a Z. See: "Oozu" = "Oars"
Until Oda writes these names, alternate Romanizations are fine. My only problem with Ace's name is when it's "Portgaz D. Trace"… THAT's when it's wrong...
-
I was watching 410 (I think) today and I noticed that they used Portgas D. Ace.
I'm still not going to complain, but it's a bit weird how they changed that. Just like how they had it translated as Gear Second in 403 and before, but after that they changed it to Second Gear.
-
In episode 410 FUNi had "Portgas." For the final time, lots are probably working on this and there will be typos in names because when it runs through qa, they are probably checking more for grammar and spelling (not spelling of names, but of words).
No bitching till the DVDs.
