RE: Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)
So glad they changed that newest cover. Shows me they at least have a little sense and they're thinking. I mean, the new one ain't perfect with luffy running sideways across air and everyone at a different perspective, but that last one was just a tragedy.
Well, so far, Season 3 covers are all still very nice to look at.

RE: Blue ray? yes or no?
"Widescreen" means many different things, and there are a lot of aspect ratios which fall under that umbrella. Lenses are still round and building things which are closer to bein' boxed shaped is still easier. And TVs themselves were so standardized and common that it's hard to force a switch, let alone multiple formats like you can in the cinema industry.
So no matter what it is today, you still have to put up with a variety of aspect ratios.

RE: Blue ray? yes or no?
They aren't region free, just most things aren't region locked.

RE: Blue ray? yes or no?
Not sure.
I will imagine, they could always go back and reshoot the originals in HD if they ever get to the point of releasing them in blu-ray, but I wouldn't buy them unless they stayed in the original aspect ratio, unlike Kai.
And I certainly won't be buying even a single episode which should be in HD if it is not.
So that's where I stand. Though even if it is just upscaled from the masters, it's likely better than we're getting now.

RE: How many FUNimation DVDs do you own?
Movie 8, all of S1 and S2, none of set three, but I surely will in the future.
Might need a way to amend the poll in the future.

RE: One Piece on G4: Is it possible?
Please don't use the word "ain't" like that. It gives me a headache.
C'mon now, you can be less sensitive if you try.

@AMS:
Avatar, Samurai Jack, Justice League
I have no clue what Ben 10 is so I left it out, but I think a common theme behind these shows was it was easier to see where they drew their inspirations from much more easily than it was to see what was actually original about them.
Justice League clearly as not being a property that was originally cartoon and having the same product of what I consider a much higher quality in the past (the original Dini/Timm Batman animated series).
Samurai Jack often had whole characters, segments and plots which were 1:1 lifted from other works.
And I ain't really seen avatar, but like ain't it your super typical shonen fare? What I have seen looked like every Jump cliche blended together and produced domestically.

@AMS:
Transformers, GI Joe, Voltron, Thundercats, Masters of the Universe are all completely unwatchable. The animation is horrible and the plots are about as thin as a piece of paper. They were great when we were kids, but they did not age well.
Well I disagree (especially when compared to anything of today) but it'd hard to keep arguing back n' forth, the main thing I wanted to express however was the strength of "character" in those shows. And usually at worst the cartoons were always good for some striking still imagery even if the frame rates weren't impressive. There were usually some amazing ideas behind these shows that took exceptionally well to being expanded upon while overall execution may have let down a few times.
I think the concepts behind those shows were what we were better able to see as children rather than the technical hindrances, and those in particular I believe can really transgress some gap of time and would captivate kids of today. Though the style might be just slightly off for some.

Still everything that airs today is pretty much better than most of the cartoons which came out in the 80's.
Transformers, GI Joe, Robotech, Voltron, Thundercats, Star Blazers, Masters of the Universe and ohh so many more with much more character.
There pretty much are no childrens' cartoons anymore, you can't find them on regular broadcast television that's for sure. Flash animated garbage for the most part. Flapjack is funny, maybe a few others. But they mostly lack in flavor.
