Any big events coming up where Funi might announce that they have aquired new episodes beyond Skypea? Or will they just announce it out of the blue? Either way I just want to know whats up with that stuff, they have got to be done dubbing all they had.
I was just on the IGN anime site, and normaly it is nothing but and I mean nothing but Naruto everywhere. Sometimes bleach here and there. On their top 10 list for the very first time(that i've seen) One Piece has made it. I am actually very shocked, but happy that it is growing in popularity. One Piece was number 10 by the way.
Just look up their One Piece History, just about zilch!
Based on a report from Chris Sabat, they're currently working on Water 7. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise because their 'source' has been proven non-credible.
Once again, the FAQ topic can answer most of these questions :)
Thanks iMustang, only thing is I talked to Chris Sabat directly at Comicon this past july. Unless they started the dubbing of those episodes afterward I'm pretty sure he said they hadn't dubbed passed Skypea. Unless we just misunderstood each other, because he was trying to figure out in his head the differences between season 3 and 4.
But hopefully they just got to water 7. Its not like those episodes would come any sooner, but its just nice to know, you know?
Last thing Chris Sabat called me beautiful, as well as my girl friend!

You lucky son of a gun! You met the awesomeness that is Chris Sabat? Did you show him a Vegeta Impression?

Honestly, first thing I told him was "I don't know anything about Dragon Ball, I'm here for One Piece". It was a dragon ball signing.
I was at ComicCon too. He did a "Over 9000!" for the guy behind me.
Eric Vale was there too. He's super nice.
Check Wikipedia. While Sean and Marc sound similar, they both voiced different characters on 4kids One Piece. Sean Schemmel voiced Hachi, Wapol, Chabo, Kuroobi, Toto, and a few others. Marc Daraison voiced Zoro, Genzo, and a few other people that I don't remember. But the 2 of them sound very alike.
Wikipedia, eh? The paragon of accuracy and all that?
Yes, they do have a similar vocal quality, but trust me when I say that Schemmel's voices tend to stand out as quite distinctive, while Daraison's are better able to blend in.
If you want real evidence, check out Schemmel playing this Russian announcer thumb from the Thumb Wrestling Association show, and compare him to 4Kids' Wapol:

I hate it when people dismiss Wikipedia as inaccurate. I watched a news report that compared Wikipedia to Encyclopædia Britanica and they both had around the same amount of errors.
Now, I do agree that stuff related to anime news and the like have a pretty high record of being wrong but still…

With big, important or widely-know topics like nature, national and international events, etc., you're gonna have a lot of officially published articles and notes and stuff to draw credit from. When it comes to who voiced who in anime, especially in 4Kids' case, you normally only get one set of credits, oftentimes as just a list of names that don't even attribute the actor to their specific role(s). If they're minor enough, they might not even be listed at all. Sometimes the actor will list their roles on their website or something, but it's not as common as you'd think. So for fans, it often comes down to educated guesswork, and pointing to Wikipedia for proof should be taken very skeptically.
Someone made a new thread about the FUNi DVDs without realizing this was here, so I'm gonna quote his question here to get it into the right thread, then answer it here.
Hey I'm new here, so I don't know if a similar thread has been made yet, but I was wondering about a few things about the Funimation box set dvd releases. For anyone who has seen or own some of these, are the subtitles well done? In the sense that the attack names aren't translated, and it stays "gomu gomu" and isn't "gum gum" and the names aren't butchered, etc. Also how is the video quality versus a kaizoku fansub release? I just wanted to know some of the facts before I make a purchase. Thank you in advance.
1: The Story is Entirely translated accurately. None of the dialog or anything involved in the story itself have any translation issues whatsoever. They even retained the Plothole in the Apis Arc where Zoro cuts Steel (they could have ad-lipped a fix here but they didnt)
2: Character names are all accurate. Even Zoro. I've yet to see any Character name changes PERIOD, Dub OR Sub. The only things one might mistake for a "Change" is that Gin's name is Romanized as "Ghin". It's the exact same name, pronounced the same way it's just a different, yet still accurate way to Romanize it so people don't mistake it for The English word "Gin" as in the alcoholic Drink.
Also, the "Nyoban" Brothers' name is translated as "Meowban" Brothers because "Nyo" is how the Japanese transliterate a "Meow".
3: Attack names are Largely left, but it's a situational thing between each character.
Luffy's attacks are all translated as "Gum Gum Pistol" for example. however, "Gum Gum" is accurate (Yes it is) and every attack is accurate (For Example, Bazooka IS Bazooka, not "Double Barrel") Also, Axe is "Gum Gum Battle-Axe"
Zoro's attacks alternate between being translated and being untranslated so the viewer knows that they mean. Like the First time he uses Tatsumaki, it's "Dragon Twister" (Accurate Translation) in both the Dub and Sub, but then in Whiskey Peak when he does it again, it's "Tatsumaki" in both.
Sanji's attacks were all French and prope in the SUBS, however in the dub he alternates between French and English to bring the presentation closer to the Manga (where his attacks are Always presented in both French AND Japanese)
Usopp and Namis are all translated out Accurately in English, however we haven't seen "Clima-Tact" in the uncut DVDs yet.
Chopper shows up Next volume, so we don't know for him yet, and Robin hasn't done any named attacks yet.
The only actual attack name "Changes" so far are a few of the minor Villain attack names, that got changed because Toei gave FUNimation a Master list of terms they HAVE to adhere to. Getting terms on the list changed back is a Tedious process of wading through Red tape and approval, so FUNi tends not to bother for attacks that minor villains only use once or Twice.
Examples: Kuro's attacks are off (But One Preserves the Cat Pun Oda intended) And Arlong's attacks are left alone, just "Shark ON Darts" is changed to "Shark Darts", just removing the "On" because it doesn't make sense gramatically in English.
Toei is too involved with the Simulcast, so we don't know if we can trust the terms we see in it to Carry over to the DVDs yet, so I'm not counting that.
4: The Video Quality is DVD Quality, so it's much better than Kaizoku's because it's direct DVD quality VS Kaizoku's which are shoddy Bootleg DVD rips and TV Rips until episode 60 something (whenever they started using the Creditless songs) as that was when they started using good DVD Rips,
When you get to that point, the gap closes some, but I'd still say FUNi's looks better because with FUNis you're watching a direct DVD, wheras with Kaizoku, theirs is a Rip from the DVD not the DVD itself.
Hope this helps.
Great thank you so much!
Also, if you want me to compare to Kaizoku, you shouldn't expect FUNi's DVDs to have FLASHY ANNOYING KARAOKE EFFECTS!
When Luffy Says "Gum-Gum Gatling" it's just text like it should be, the words don't bounce and move.
They did change Arlong's Shark on Gear to Shark Tooth Drill, though. But it hardly matters; he says it a grand total of once, and you can barely hear it.

Yeah, I used Arlong as an example but only used the one Example.
So far, the only things FUNi has changed are things you literally only hear once.
And I'd be willing to put money on it simply being things from Toei's Master List that FUNi didn't bother petitioning to get fixed because… you only see it once.

Now that you bring that up, that leaves the question of whether the terms being used in the simulcast will wind up in the dub. Such as the infamous "haki" debate and such. I guess we won't really know for a long time, but I do wonder if anyone could ask FUNi about it now…

FUNi doesn't have the rights to these episodes yet. That's why this isn't "FUNimation presents: One Piece Simulcast" it's "A Joint-venture between FUNi, Toei, and Fuji"
That being said, I believe Mato said the Scripts he did are being archived for FUNi to use when they get to this point, but Mato's original script said "Ambition" for Haki.
Moreover, in the Uncut FUNi Skypiea eps we saw from Australia, Enel said Luffy's Devil Fruit was a "Paramecia Type". In the Simulcast, Sandersonia said it was a "Paramythia" Type.
Toei's hands are deep into the cookie jar here because FUNi doesn't have these Episodes legally yet, they're just helping translate and host them, so I'd be willing to put money on the terms getting put back where they belong for the DVD release. Which means The DVDs will most likely go with "Ambition" because that's what Mato said he put originally.

Did he even come close to asking about this or are you just being needlessly hostel?

Just gotta get it out the way, as far as I'm concerned.
Knowing how most anime fans are, its good to just shoot that "problem" down before they even ask.
At least, that's what I say. Demon Rin may say different..

Exactly. His Question specifically asked how The DVDs Quality stacked up to Kaizoku's.
Kaizoku does the Flashy annoying attack FX, so I figured it'd be better to alert him/her that FUNi doesn't do that, and get it out of the way.
I'd hate for him/her to go out and buy the DVDs, then get upset when they don't feature the FX.

I don't believe they had the episodes back then; I think Sabat said this in August if I'm not mistaken. His specific words were they were working on season 4 and "just about to meet Franky."
And I'm sure meeting him was amazing; I loved meeting Travis Willingham and talking about Ace. The fact he already watched the Ace/Blackbeard episode made the conversation much more fun~

Yeah, we got that info from Sabat, and then the next week Mike McFarland and Adam Sheehan told us Sabat ate some "Bad Sushi" and that they hadn't done anything past Skypiea.
That same week, Adam Sheehan (Same guy I said above) was VEHEMENTLY DENYING that Dragon Ball Season one would be coming out at all. Then a few weeks later we got confirmation that it WAS coming out, and They simply had to deny it's existence because, for some reason the Contract forbade them from talking about it until the official announcement.
So Either A: Sabat really was mistaken, they haven't done anything past Skypiea Yet
or B: They ARE working on the DBF and Water 7, and Sabat simply wasn't supposed to say anything yet. So when Asked, everyone involved in production had to cover Sabat's Blunder. It's also obvious that if this were the truth, from then ON Sabat would be watching what he said about it.
So essentially, thanks to the situation with DB Season One, we really don't know which source to trust. Sabat or The others
But of course if you follow the clues, you'll see that it's B, and Sabat just said more than he should've.
Zoro would know more about where the series is than Buggy, unless
! we're talking about Impel Down. lol
I've watched and listened carefully to the steel cutting part of the Apis arc several times on the DVDs, and have yet to hear the word "steel" come up. I'd say they removed it, unless someone wants to upload the clip and point it out.
@Captain:
They did change Arlong's Shark on Gear to Shark Tooth Drill, though. But it hardly matters; he says it a grand total of once, and you can barely hear it.
It was Shark on Tooth, but still, you're right.
I believe someone asked if Zoro could cut the Iron Chains and he replied with " I can cut anything". I specificly remember the word Iron being used instead of steel in the funi dub.

That's fine for us, but doesn't it make Toei look a little…..foolish, since we know about his future cutting steel problem?
Rightstuf.com users, anyone know how long an item suppose to stay on "Reserved For Your Order?" Also what's an estimate on when Season 2 Part 3 might ship?

Glad funimation changed it; now the little plothole has been filled :P

If you ordered it early enough, it'll show up about a week or even earlier before it comes out in stores.
Off hand, I can't recall when that is though.

The episode was made before Oda made that whole subplot with Zoro not knowing how to cut steel, so they didn't know.
Also, FUNi DID NOT fix that problem. Sabat still said "steel". Just checked.

Sorry Guys. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, I just rewatched the steel cutting scene again to check and Zoro did call them steel chains in the Funi Dub. The Exact quote went like this:
Zoro:Chains of Steel huh?
Luffy:Can you cut em?
Zoro: There isn't anything I can't Cut.

It would have been really easy to fix this.
All they would have had to change it to was:
Zoro: Some Cheap Chains here
Luffy: Can you cut em?
Zoro: They're Cheap Iron, so definitely.

Cheap? I dunno, that'd kinda be downplaying the situation too much. Just changing steel to iron would've been fine.
I think there's no escaping the fact that Funi will have to keep even the inaccuracies, because changing them would count as meddling, and you know how much folks hate meddlin' of any sort.
I'd rather that FUNi not try to fix anything, too.
Does that mean when we get to the Davy Back fights, we have to suffer through Chopper pill popping (yes, the rumble ball is a pill) even though there a limit and a six hour per dose rule?
Yes. It is hardly likely to be noticed a hundred episodes down the line.

That's an animation thing, so it would have to be left in no matter what unless they wanted to redraw that part themselves.
I'm wondering if they're going to leave in that extra Zoro in that Foxy's Return episode.

Sorry, Can some one explain this double Zoro thing. This is not the First time I have heard about it. Also can someone give an episode number for when that happened?

During the Foxy Filler just after the Davy Back Fight, there's a scene where Foxy is tricking Luffy with the disguises again.
The first shot shows the whole room and the Straw Hats are standing behind him, and Foxy goes to attack Luffy. Zoro rushes up to defend Luffy and then says "Luffy, Look VERY closely at this guy"
Then the Scene pans out to show the whole Room as Luffy contemplates, and it was a reused shot from Earlier of all of the Straw Hats behind Luffy, but with Zoro defending him added to the Left side of the shot… but if you look at the right side of the shot... Zoro is still with the rest of the Straw Hats... He's in the same scene twice
Did they fix that scene for the DVD? I know animators do that commonly.
is season 2 v4 on delay

I'll even post a clip of it…an AMV Hell-esque clip, but it'll show you outright.

So im watching S2V2 and i noticed something. In episode 76, usopp's fire star one. There is a scene where Luffy goes to punch Mr. 3 in his suit. The thing is, first luffy has no shirt on, and then cuts to a close up and his shirt is there again, and then next scene it is gone. Funny huh? check it out
EDIT:
Look at 8:41Can anyone tell me what the commentary for s2v2 is like?
@Warrior's:
Can anyone tell me what the commentary for s2v2 is like?
Vivi's and Robin's actors were giving the commentary. I thought it was the best so far, especialy compared with that last peice of crap. They were just talking about how it was knowing the ending to this great saga and having to really start it from the beginning. You know, having the luxary to know the entire story before they start. But what I really thought was interesting was how much Robin's VA thought she knew Robin. All 3 of the people on the commentary actually. Only because they don't know about Enies Lobby yet and how Robin will try to "betray" the Straw Hats and such.
When should we expect voyage 3 to be shipped from Rightstuf?
Eh? Season Two First Voyage wasn't a bad commentary. Sure, it was on a filler episode, but it was nice to get insight from the actors on the episode, and further from the director.
For this month's commentary I'm suspecting Palencia, whoever does Kureha, and one of the directors will cover episode 90.
Not that it was filler, but all I seem to remember was the Apis actor talking about how she wished this character stayed with the crew so she could get paid more. And I was hoping they would have something to say that was interesting about going over the Red Line. I know they don't realize how signifigant it really is, but those dumb jokes just didnt cut it for me.
When should we expect voyage 3 to be shipped from Rightstuf?
Probably sometime next week - the 15th will mark 2 weeks before release, and that's usually around the time we get it.
