You all seem to be forgetting that this is a man who earned his reputation. We may not have seen it but he did it. We saw Mr.3 do plenty of cowardly things but what did it get him? landed in Jail and Luffy had to save his ass. Pathetic. At least Mr.2 went willingly and Croc and Mr.1 chose to stay. Mr.3 is just pathetic.
Ussop isnt a powerhouse either but at least he stands up for what he belives in. Mr.3 changes his values to suit the situation. If he was really such a calm calculated loner he would have escaped on his own and not accepted Luffy's help.
And also there's this "Mr.3 doesnt hold a CANDLE to whitebeard." :-)

Mr 3 has made the story a lot more interesting for me than Whitebeard has. He did so in both Little Garden and in Impel Down. He was even a necessary piece to making the BW cover story interesting.
If we never even saw Whitebeard's face, the story wouldn't really have changed to this point.

He acknowledged with one of the first things he said when he got there that he understood he was supposed to be killed for failing his mission. He knew Croc wanted him dead but risked his life going, anyway, for the hope of fulfilling his aspirations. That's not a cowardly thing to do, the cowardly thing to do is simply to run away.

Ugh, we've said this before but it doesn't really matter if a villain is a spineless coward, you can like them for it or you can hate them for it. Personally, I like Mr. 3 for being a coward because it created a fun dynamic between him and Buggy trying to escape but somehow always being dragged along with Luffy's plans to head straight into danger. I prefer a character that provides some comic relief to a character that we're simply supposed to be in awe of because of his reputation.
A character doesn't have to be honorable or self-sacrificing to be popular as you can tell from the huge Crocodile fanbase.

Where was his "superior intellect" when he was running scared like a bitch through impel down? I can't believe it's this close.

I love Mr. 3's devil fruit powers, but I still have a problem with his overall character design.
Whitebeard, on the other hand, I really like. Especially after seeing Ace's loyalty to him and the respect Jimbei has for him.
This is extremely hard.. but I'm going to go for Mr. 3. He really stepped it up at Impel Down. The Doru Doru no Mi is just so freaking awesome. Right up there with the Moku Moku no Mi, in my book.

Keep in mind that Mr.3 allowed Luffy to reach the undisputed peak of awesome in the staggering form of champion-Luffy. Possibly the closest we'll ever get to Pirate Docking 6 Giant Robot Warrior Big Emperor (actual name??).

As for Kinryu Arimoto? The only roles of his I know off the top of my head are Father Cornello and Brachio, who are considerably less badass than Guy.
