Yeah, you guys are nuts if you think anyone other than a strawhat will win. The only real question is which one gets the title, and that has a lot to do with how the matchups are drawn. Doesn't make the tournament any less fun getting there, but you gotta be realistic. I'm just psyched AP is finally doing another tourney after all these years!

I would love for Brook to win the tournament, but if Brook were against Luffy, WHO do you think AP is gonna vote for? I can tell you it won't be Brook. Or if it's Brook against Zoro. There's NO WAY IN HELL Brook will win. Just think about ANY Straw hat vs ANY character, they will ALWAYS lose. There are several characters who can give the Strawhats a run for their money - Crocodile, Blackbeard, Smoker, Kuma, Kidd, Law are all hugely popular.
Besides, most people here would probably vote against a strawhat unless that strawhat is their favorite, precisely for the reason that they don't want to see a strawhat always win. If Drake can "win" against Nami and a 2-panel character can get 100 votes against Zoro, just think what a more popular character can do. My prediction is at least 1 strawhat won't make it past round 2. My guess is Nami, but it could be almost anyone.
I think Luffy, Sanji and Franky are probably the only safe bets who would win against anyone else except each other. They are by far the 3 most popular characters on AP, from my impressions.
Anyway, we have a long way to go, so relax and enjoy the show. I'm pretty sure there will be a few surprises in store for us.

Honestly, it's so annoying when people dislike characters just because they're popular. They're often popular for a reason, and while I myself would like to see more love for some of my favorite side characters (Inazuma Inazuma Inazuma), I understand that Oda, unlike in almost every other huge series I know, made extrodinarily interesting and loveable main characters. Of course people are going to want to see them more, of course people are going to vote for them. But, at the same time, Arlong Park people are more down-to-earth and don't obsess over the main characters like the Japanese fans do, so while I expect most of the Strawhats to go for many rounds (as they damn well deserve to), I wouldn't be surprised or displeased in the slightest if some of the slightly lesser ones fell to the likes of certain supernovas or the like. At the same time, I can't think of a non-Nami Strawhat I don't completely adore, so I'll be happy either way, as long as Franky wins.

I hope Franky does not win - he's great but not that great to win twice. As you yourself said, Oda has created many likable characters, ranging from main characters who appear in almost every chapter, to side characters who appeared in only 2, but left a big enough impression. It's a waste for one character to win 2 times in a row, when there are so many other good ones who deserve to win.
Neither was Usopp at the time oddly enough.
Hmm, if I make a crude calculation the tournament that Usopp won was at the time between Water 7 and Enies Lobby. That means Sogeking was introduced around that time, so that's probably why Usopp won.
I think his popularity has decreased a lot since then, however.

The most important factor here is the "factor X"
As new chapters will come out someone may get a momentarily boost which insures him victory at the time…- example jimbei who i dare to say would get such a boost now...is it enough to win over someone like brook...still dont think so...but we may see some more from the fishman...
And he is not the only one...
Imagine BB coming back saying some cool sentences and owning magellan like he was nothing...thats a boost...
Imagine we see zoro come-ing back and owning some powerful fighters with his progress...thats a boost...
And crocodile actually managing to kill WB
Or WB managing to woop some marines asses...We ll be seeing boosts, now hope that the right people get them so the tournament is interesting...
And untill those boosts come out we can add our own ones...
Like if you make a video that when you look at it you get the feeling yes this guy is cool, you have created your own boost...
P.S. Problem with ray were few and I think the biggedt one was that we get the feeling trhe guy is retired which truth be said he is...you want to cheer for someone you ll still be regulary see in the series and see him making some progress that ray probably wont

I wouldn't go that far but Brook definitely has a good chance to win this tournament. For some reason people always vote for the new kid on the block and he is the new "cool" thing. I still think that Luffy, Franky or Sanji will beat him. Maybe even Croc or Kuma, though I'm not so sure about them.

To all of you who think someone besides the Strawhats will win this this tournament, I HIGHTLY doubt it, but it could happen. Believe you me, I WANT someone other than the Straw Hats to win, that would be EPIC, but we all know this is a popularity based tournament, and as much as some of you are bitching that we're bitching about Staw Hats being popular, it's true. They are hugely popular, I'm GLAD they're popular, but I myself would like to see someone OTHER than a Straw Hat win this tournament. I doubt that will happen, but I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, soo badly I would.
