Gear 2 was a magical power-up as stated by the author, there was no logical thought process or creativity to it.
Luffy is an intelligent fighter, but he's not creative.
Gomu Gomu Robot Friend was pretty creative, when he took control of an enemy marine's limbs at Enies Lobby and attacked another marine with him.
Eh, I think he is as creative as he can be (until more is shown) given his devil fruit. He doesn't have a logia or a particularly wacky paramecia, so I don't know how much creativity there is to expect. Using his fingers as a net and making himself fatter sometimes seems to be the extent of things. I thought his fight with Crocodile was him peaking in a sense, because Croc kept mentioning that the only way to survive in the seas was to creatively use/master your devil fruit, and so Luffy creates Storm, which has a couple of steps and a little bit of thought process behind it–including using blood.
But I agree that he is primarily a punch this, kick that fighter. You have to remember he's not the brightest dude in the world.
I also think it'd be interesting if Magellan wasn't actually beaten, but maybe immobilized by some special circumstance.

How is Gear 2 not creative? Pumping your own blood is pretty damn creative in my book. And I don't remember Mr. Oda stating that either.
And I believe you need to expand upon your definition of what a creative fighter is OUTSIDE of what he uses for attacks. Luffy primarily uses his body to fight. Does that mean all physical fighters are uncreative? You'll probably say yes. The point is that it's what they do in the fights that decides on how creative they are. On the Arc maxim, Luffy first tried not thinking then tried using the recoil of his hits to beat Enel. That's pretty damn creative. In Arabasta, Luffy used storm which is also very creative. Propelling yuorself with a jet of air that you inhaled and using the spin motion to increase the impact of your punches. In Enies Lobby, the gears themselves were a creative addition to his arsenal. But outside that, how about when he wrapped his leg around Lucci's leg and tried to hammer him? That was very creative.
So yeah, I definitely disagree with your notion that Luffy isn't a creative fighter.
Everyone is hoping that Luffy would use haki in this arch,but he is not in a tight spot right now,he has a lot of supporters.I think Oda would save the dramatic haki moment to the marines HQ or maybe the sea battle to save Ace.
If Luffy starts using haki everytime he is in danger to magically defeat all his enemies it's going to turn boring pretty soon.
What if he utilizes it as a technique like gears or his other attacks and his opponent gives him a hard time anyway? It's not like it's a magical energy that automatically defeats opponents. Just think of it as a new power-up like Gears.
But yeah, that is my point. When backed into a corner, Luffy can change his offense to suit his opponent. I dunno, maybe I'm thinking of the same thing, when I'm thinking "creative" you're thinking "intelligent." Still, there's a bunch of ways to hurt Magellan without touching him. Here's how I think the fight will go:
Luffy beats on Magellan with the environment, using stone and cages and stuff-> eventually Magellan turns things around by melting everything->then, in the end, Luffy finally uses haki in some fashion to end the fight. Sad truth is, if haki could make Luffy a normal human when being hit then it can make Magellan a normal, non poisonous human when being hit.
Erm, it'd stop his body from producing any more poison but it's not like it will remove the poison already on his body.

Interesting idea - in this field - mr.3 can make his candle home/room, enter it, and when Magellan follow him, get out through wall or window. Then cover home with the very thick layer of wax.

I think they are afraid to get poisoned… his whole body is covered with it and physical contact is fatal... and his larger than most prisoners... it would be hard to cuff him...

I really wonder. The haki strike (based on Amazon Lily) doesn't seem to stop devil fruit powers as much as it lets the user do damage as if it were a normal person. I don't want to get into the technicalities of it (mostly about how haki works), but it seems like whatever Marigold did to Luffy another haki user could do to Magellan.
I don't want to get into the haki bandwagon, in fact I deeply want something else to be the "answer" to Magellan's power, but that technique seems to be good enough. And, unlike other ideas, it can still result in a great fight.
Mr 3 and Buggy really lost their teeth in this ep, and i wonder how Mr 3's powers will work against Magellan.

Or another, simpler way - pick up some of those 1000 kairoseki-net bazookas and try use them on Magellan. It as simple, safe and effective against someone like Magellan as nothing else. Still I dont think we get to see it… but still... it would be good...

Agree, but it would prevent Luffy-team from wasting time/members/force in ID and let save them for MHQ. On the other side it save Magellan from inevitable defeat and consequences of it…

They do look very similar. And if you notice, Law's jumpsuits have his symbol on the back, which we don't see in Robin's picture. Didn't see the symbol on the front :ermm:. And they both have the little rectangles under the waist. I don't think they're the same, but he does have a point.

Oda JUST used the same style jumpsuit so it's likely it's similar for a reason.. If there was 100 chapters between the Trafalgar's crew showing up and the latest chapter it'd be excusable.. plus why would the prison work camp use the pirate smiley ? All they'd have to do is stitch on a patch.
Plus.. Oda just used this theme with the Fishmen turning the Celestial Hoof into their sun symbol.. so it would make sense there is a connection.

Hmmm, good point. I'm not saying this confirms my theory or anything, but he does say that prisoners are brought there from around the world, so perhaps Law was brought there and he formed the basis of his crew from that point and made a run to the grand line. After all with his devil fruit ability, a jail break would be a piece of cake. But that does sound a little farfetched and that I might just still be trying to cling to my theory shrugs.
Eh, I still like to think that they're linked, I'm still certain that the jumpsuits are identical, and that Laws crew just happens to be wearing those suits and that Law has clearly expressed interest in freeing slaves. Also for what its worth, the guy who owns/ owned that slave market at shabaondy where Law was attending was of course Doflamingo, who's Jolly Roger is of course Laws ones, except crossed out.
So meh, I currently have the opinion that Law isn't too cool with the whole slavery thing

Eeeh, your theory is that those characters were the same people because of clothing, whereas Wiggydee's is simply saying some of Law's crewmates could've been slaves because Robin's jumpsuit resembles theirs.
you know i first theorized that jimbei might be the one who stays behind next to allow luffy to escape but maybe that person will be crocodile and mr 1 like some have theorized? maybe they will have the help of mr 3 and his wax as well? i think it would make more sense for crocodile to stay behind so he can join blackbeards assault on whitebeard later on. then again i really want to see luffy and crocodile cooperating at marineford to take out a bunch of marines. whitebeard on one side of marineford destroying everything in his way and luffy and croc and the rest of the prison crew tearing things up at the other side. i want to see luffy and croc eventually encounter whitebeard and his crew. speaking of haki i want luffy to have a zoro moment like when he fought mr 1 and finally be made aware of this power inside of him.

CroC will not betray anyone in Impel Down, he will try that, when the prisoners arrive to the Marine HQ.

You know, now that we have insight into Jimbei's character, I seriously think everyone was rather surprised at his actual personality/demeanor. I mean, myself and I'm sure several others expected him to be some kind of crime lord, or at least someone who would cause a lot of grief for Luffy. But ironically, he's an honorable, respectable "boss" of the Gyojin, and is helping Luffy without a problem. It's pretty neat how Oda pulled that on us.

In fact, I can see villains of the Fishmen arc to be 'rebel' citizens who want to use the void created by Whitebeard and WG being taken out/weakened to launch a campaign of Fishpeople conqouring the surface world..
my theorie is that kuma has the complete book of One Piece disguised as 'Bible' (which it is for us g) and when he flips the pages he can teleport wherever his eyes wander. also he has the knowledge of the entire series and that's why he sent everyone to their respective islands…
