Sorry to bring this up again but:
@Gabbe:
the fact that u support the Swedish so-called translation of this series sickens me and I feel ashamed to be from the same nation
the fact that you dislike the Swedish translation sickens me a lot! One piece is like the first story were i really feel that which languish it is in makes a difference, usually i don't give a crap. But the Swedish makes it better in my option. it's more ruff then the English and it makes the pirates seem less cultivated which i think fits pirates better. the reason most One Piece readers (8-13 years old) dislike the translation is because it doesn't sound "cool" enough because all the cool movies(Swedish movies isn't that great) is in English. so yea for your sake i hope your in that age(8-13) or that you have a better reason to get ashamed for living in the same country as someone who support the IMO great Swedish One piece translation.
Sorry for bringing this up again in a English topic but some things just make me furious. i will not take this up again.
@Monkey:
Yeah I wasn't clear, sorry…and the grandma's thing was a poor exemple but to put it more simply : Brennen has said : if names were translated, people would call him scorch when he comes to america...so in this case I agree with him, it's stupid to translate names...
But as I said before, with the translation, the language of one piece's world changes and if a japanese speaking luffy would say "gomu gomu no mi", english speaking luffy would say "rubber fruit".
Actually he would say rubber rubber fruit as oda made them say gomu twise as there already is a rubber fruit in real life :ninja: .
but yea, thing that have a meaning should be translated imo as you loose the meaning if it's not. for example: i think you should translate Zoro, and Luffy's technics but not robins and most of Sanji's as they are made more to sound good then to have a meaning. example: Onigiri: Deamon slash. concasse: no wait, that's not even Japanese to begin with, yea you get my point. and by this logic Haki should really be translated. I know I started out as anti translation. But as i see what it causes not to translate(see this topic for example) , i changed my mind.
And i think you are able to fight to become the pirate king with "the ambition of a king" not that you get it because you wan't to be the king. but that doesn't mean you can't get it if your not born with it. ex. Coby didn't nearly have any ambition at all before he met Luffy, he wanted to become a marine but was afraid to try, but in the present storyline he have more than the majority of people(well maybe not in One piece but in the real world ^^), he is trying really hard, but he is still to shy to say it with a don, in contrast to Luffy that is just spreading his ambition all over the place, and by that he have the ambition of a king.
oh, and by the way. i don't feel that his Ambition is to become the Pirate King, but to live the adventure of becoming the pirate king with his friend. therefore i think he would offer his chance to be pirate king if he had to chose between that and his friends and his freedom.
Remember it's not the goal you speak of that matters, but the one deep within your heart. and i love one piece…
