I haven’t see anything that makes me want to buy the PS5 at launch or even within its first year. Probably will pick it up for Christmas 2021, once a few must-haves have been released. The only big holiday title I‘d want to play this year on PS5 would be Cyberpunk 2077 but that doesn’t warrant a 400€ price tag for a visual upgrade from the PS4 that I already own
I wonder how long the transition period where we get PS5 games that also have PS4 versions is going to be.
I'm waiting till the inevitable slimemr version is out. Or maybe the special Horizon edition, since that's inevitable. Nothing in the first year has me NEEDING to buy it.
Sweet Tooth ain't coming back right?
I’m still waiting on them to do something with Gabe Logan.
God of War: Ragnarok makes it a must buy for me.
Yeah i don't know why i would need a PS5 in the first year especially since i got my PC to play new games like Cyberpunk. I'll wait and see what gets released and is being announced in 2021.
What is it with every single outlet and streamer misunderstanding what the Playstation Plus Collection is? It came forth quite clearly in the video that it was a collection of games that you get with your PS Plus subscription.
It's a nice way to cope with the fact that there won't be that many launch games. A few games on that list I haven't played that I wouldn't mind playing, like Day's Gone, Persona, Monster Hunter and MKX.

Wait, what are those people thinking the Collection is? Aren't those games simply permanently in the PS+ game roster?
my main curiosity with the PS Plus Collection is if there will be any additional enhancement or if it'll just be basically the PS4Pro version of the games
I'll think about it, if persona doesn't switch to switch. Then not having gotten a ps4 will have paid off.
Genshin Impact is out now on the Playstation store.
I did NOT realize that it was a FREE game.
For a couple minutes I thought I'd fluked into some crazy error where I spotted it on the store right as it was uploaded it and managed to snag it before they threw a price point on it and was wondering how to feel about that, but looking further, its a Gacha game.
So… it'll have lots of microtransactions and costumes (and maybe characters) will likely require cash and it'll have a lot of grinding to earn anything... and it looks like lootboxes, bleh. But hey, free to try the Breath of the Wild ripoff!
EDIT: Looking further at reviews, apparently its FTP monetization is very fair. They're just giving out a 100 hour single player game for free hoping you'll get hooked and buy the battle passes ad cosmetics.
This is what games like SMite and League of Legend and Warframe does, I can get behind that. Warframe is free but I've probably tossed several hundred dollars at it over the last few years, but its given me hundreds of hours of playtime so that's fine.
Yeah i'm downloading Genshin Impact right now on PC since it looks pretty fun and i'm sure i'll get some hours out of it at least.
I have no problem spending some money on it after a while if i'm still having fun with it. But the main difference between this and Warframe f. e. is of course … you don't know what you'll get. You may want to play that awesome looking character that is super strong but good luck getting it with a 0.6 % drop chance. Meanwhile in Warframe i'll just buy that frame that i want and that's it.
But in general it seems to be mainly for endgame stuff and energy so it's fine for me. At least i'm not planning to delve that deep into it .... o.o
Apparently if you save up ten tokens and do a slot machine all at once, you're guaranteed a character, and there will be specific sets per day, so its random but you have some control over it.
WHich is okay. I played enough Mass Effect multiplayer to be okay with this.
…I really wish the ME3 multiplayer still worked. That was great. The ME:A multiplayer kind of sucked. Less character variety and the extra mobility meant shittier maps. The 8000 identical copies of the same guns so you couldn't ever get anything.

Mass Effect 3 multiplayer was great, especially for (from what I can remember) only having 1 basic game mode.

That's not FFXIV or Ys VIII. That's not FFXIV or Ys VIII AT ALL.
Got it downloaded and played a bit last night. Seems like the kind of game I play pretty hardcore for about ten hours then suddenly lose all interest, but it seems like a very impressive effort for a free-to-play. Always wondered why there weren't more games like this on PS4.
Will say the weebiness of the game seems very much like a superficial aesthetic and is going to be more obnoxious than anything before it's all said and done.
Just found out Horizon 2 is not going to be a PS5 exclusive, but it was also be on PS4.
It won't be as pretty and have longer load times, but now I really don't need a PS5 anytime soon.

I don't think I can bring myself to commit to the hundreds of hours FF14 demands at this point, no matter how good it may be. Yeah I might be able to optimally blaze through it in "only" a hundred hours but my playtimes with RPGs tend to be a lot longer than most because I do all the things. It's free but its also a commitment, so…
YS8 is actually in my PS shopping cart right now but I'm waiting for a check to come in first before I buy anything new.
I wasn't expecting to touch Genshin for years, or ever, but free is hard to argue against at least trying. And my wife was interested since she loved BotW so...
I'm so swamped with work I can't play anything for another month anyway.
hehehe, that wasn't intended to be an actual guilt trip. Live your life, my friend.
But yeah, looking forward to your thoughts on Ys VIII. Very well might have been my favorite game of the last two years if it weren't for Shadowbringers.
I strongly trust your opinions since we tend to have pretty similar game tastes.
i might make the time in the near future to finally play through YS 1 and 2 though since combined those games are only about 10 hours and I'd really like to clear out at least one of the classic games before playing a newer one and being spoiled.
Kind of like how even though Suikoden 2 is the best one I had a hard time with it because I'd already played 3, 4 and 5 before 1 and 2 became available, and I'd gotten way too used to the QoL of the later games. Or any of the Dragon Quests before 8.
I've wanted to play YS for years, own half the games on steam anyway… just never gotten to it for reasons.
I played VIII and went backwards and it actually did nothing to damage my enjoyment of the earlier games. It did make me a little less enthused about Celceta and VII, which are more in the same gameplay vein but not as goods.
Story-wise, the various Yses are in random order and basically just center on a red-headed dude named Adol and his adventures, occasionally with his friend Dogi. There are a few minor callbacks in VIII, but nothing that bothered me when I played it blind.
I tried to find a youtuber that was a lore expert for FFXIV, and was underwhelmed with the options and the flavor of the world. If after a whole day I'm still on boars and bandits, I'm done with the game.

how far are you?
because I will make no defenses for vanilla
Peter's getting a new look for the Spider-Man remaster
If nothing else his hair (and his brows) look better.
Don't love it. Not throw-a-fit-and-threaten-insomniac levels of don't-love-it that I see online, but liked the older feeling of Pete in the game. Still preordered, tho, and I'll love the hell out of playing the game again.
Unrelated, but not sure where I'm coming down on Genshin Impact. It's soooooo generic to play but also soooooo pretty at times. I miss old sweeping RPG vistas.
Reviews for Crash Bandicoot 4 are out and they are quite favorable (Metacritic is sitting on 85). Major criticisms are the fixed camera, loose controls/physics and outdated/frustrating gameplay. If we didn't get the double jump and outlined drop shadow I'd agree with the latter two but those additions mitigate the wonkyness for me. What I would criticise more is the button mapping, I mixed them up a lot during the demo, especially in Cortex's level. I feel like they should have moved something to the left hand, not have the right side to handle all special moves except for moving.

I've put a tiny bit of time into so far.
I look at the things that are there to level and collect and the size of the map and its obvious the game could be a long term time sink… but so far I'm not feeling it. But I'm also not very far in yet at all. Definitely pretty though.
Ghost of tsushima finally went on sale though and I was waiting for that and that's almost certainly going to take priority.

It reminds me of when Sucker Punch tried to change Cole McGrath's design for Infamous 2. I mean, I'm not mad, but it's a weird thing to do to such a beloved game, especially when that version of Peter Parker has gotten so much love.
Infamous was funny though since Cole’s original design was bland and weird whereas the redesign made him look less bland and weird but people complained and we got more of bland and weird looking Cole. I mean he did look somewhat better but still.

i struggle to even recall the inFamous crap because both iterations were so generic (and Second Son was worse). What was funny is that they seemed to be trying to make him edgier in the second one and he was…actually more likable? Still find it weird that a studio who made some of the most charming stories in the Sly Cooper series struggled so much to make a functioning narrative and protagonist in their next series. Tsushima fares somewhat better, but even it is a mixed bag in terms of delivery.
ALSO, done with Genshin. Game puts up too many roadblocks to enjoying yourself, not to mention the gameplay somehow manages to be both too simplistic and too complicated. I really wish the Tales series would have taken this as a visual queue, though, it's got an aesthetic charm that just isn't present in many modern JRPGs.

I gotta disagree. Original Cole (and Infamous 1) was just ok, but the initial redesign for InFamous 2 was basically is Nathan Drake decided to be a delivery boy. It wasn't the worst redesign ever, but the fans liked Cole and the game was beloved so it was weird. It's not like they put a new head of hair on Knack.

Whose Knack ?
Been playing Crash 4, and it's everything I could ever want. Feels excellent, the rewards are fun to obtain, the cut-scenes and levels look sharp and alive, and the level of challenge is perfect from the beginning of the game.
Looking forward to playing more of it in the coming days. They knocked it out of the park, so far it's easily my favorite non-indie game this year and I'm still in early levels.

How far did you get before stopping? I've clocked a couple hours now and done the veeery basic starter dungeons that are only there to showcase element interaction rather than be any challenge, and now have a handful of characters to choose from. I see potential in the whole thing, like the mixing and matching of elements seems fun and the world and stuff to do is clearly plentiful… and I'm even okay with the gacha system since it as some safeguards and I'm okay with RNG up to point, especially in a free game.
But despite seeing the potential in the magic combos I'm not exactly excited by any of it yet either. It could turn into a hundreds of hours game if the depth increases some more, or I might be better cutting my losses now and I'm just not sure yet if I should give it another few hours or if 3ish is enough. Reviews I've looked at all say it starts working a lot better once you have a team and a variety of enemies, but the roadblocks and busywork to keep you from progressing too much too fast, I dunno....

eh, I may have spoken prematurely, brother has convinced me to give it another shot. Also a few reviews say it gets better after the prologue.
i'm somewhat enjoying it more by taking it very slow and just exploring instead of getting too funneled into the myriad systems the game wants to thrust at me immediately after starting. There have been a few quests outside the dungeon/kill enemies norm, so that helps. But gameplay still feels extremely shallow, and I don't see how that's going to change (and I have at least one character of every element at this point). Basically the production value of a high-level JRPG married to the depth of a mobile game (which, tbf, it was designed to be). It's very good for what it is, but I've never been able to hold my interest in this genre.
Huh, I impulse tried Genshin myself last night and I ended up with different feelings (although I played very briefly). Hoping the combat never gets too complicated so I can just spam my way through with whatever characters I end up liking the most. I'd like to just continue with it enjoying the story and the world of this game with barely any effort from me on the combat portions.
I'm at Adventure Rank 25 in Genshin Impact now, still doing the main story and exploring the world. I read that some people had problems gaining XP for the Adventure Rank requirements at level 23-27 and had to grind for it but i guess since i'm exploring most of the time anyway i had no problems in that regard. I guess after the story is done the real grind for materials and endgame gear begins but if you're just interested in the story and/or gameplay you can just stop and wait for the next update.
The design and especially the music of the south-western area are really great by the way. I stopped more than once to look at the beautiful environments.
The thing is … at this point i have no problem spending some money on the game. But i really don't like gambling for characters especially since the prices are insane. It's like 20 bucks for a 10-pull which guarantees a 4 star weapon or character.
And then we have the 5 star weapons and characters which have a rate of 0,6 percent per pull. Yes you're guaranteed to get one after 90 pulls but ... that's still a lot. And if you want to fully upgrade the passives of a specific character you have to get the same one seven freaking times. Nah, i'll stay free to play.
Also i got a bunch of cool characters including the 5-star i wanted to have the most so i'm good.
Backwards compatibility looking solid for PS5, though from what I can tell somewhat less robust than for XBOX Series…what the hell is it called again?

I've been holding off re-playing a few games like Horizon and GoW, so glad I did. Not sure there'll be a big difference, but hey.
That said, I usually care a lot about backwards compatibility for a new console then use it a handful of times after the first month or two.

Kinda of the same boat. I'd maybe be willing to throw some money at it if I knew what I was getting, (10$ guarantees you get this character and their full ability set! or "50$ means you buy the full game and can now unlock every character in their base mode at least by doing their story": ) but basically just getting a slot machine makes it a hard no for me. Already the slot machine mechanic managed to give me THREE copies of the raven girl, so I feel basically obligated to use her as my only character that has anything unlocked, but I don't actually care for her much?
I think I'm done with it. I assembled a group of elemental characters I liked that can handle most situations but then found that instead of opening up the game and making it more engaging, it actually limits me and has me just doing the same combos over and over. The fights aren't at all interesting or challenged unless I'm fighting something 15 levels ahead of me. The story and characters just haven't done much to pull me in.
It's pretty, it has potential, and if I had more freetime I could see getting lost in it, but maybe its time to move onto a different game. I have a huge backlog of other things to do after all that hopefully grab me more.
Oh man! I didn't know there was this much Crash Bandicoot hate
Probably going to wait a year or so to get the PS5 like i did for the PS4. It came out in 2013 but i got it in late 2014.
Oh man! I didn't know there was this much Crash Bandicoot hate
They raise absolutely fair points though. I always try to collect all crates during my first playthrough of a level and I forgot how many times only a few crates were missing even though I painstakingly scoured every corner, jumping into all endless voids in cornes in case they hid more crates there. This adds a lot of playtime to a level that is only being made worse by dying over and over again, either because distances are hard to measure due to the fixed camera, or because missing only one crate in auto-run sections means starting over. One level was particularly bad in that regard, where you run down a mountaintop on an ice bear, only that your trajectory in relation to your input changes because the fixed camera changes its angle, causing you to miss crates yet again. Or because your hitbox is so narrow that you have to be in the exact center of 2x2-crate stacks to crash them all. But wait, the camera just moved so you screwed up again.
The Game Trailer guy always weirds me out because its the same script as the honest movie trailers but the performance and delivery just is not anywhere near as good so the jokes all feel really stilted and weird.
There’s no way I’m getting a Ps5 anytime soon. Gotta say it looks pretty excellent though.
I'll wait for the eventual slim version, that boy is too chunky for me. Also no must-haves for a while
Yeah, whereas Nintendo consoles are Day 1 purchases for me, I pretty much always wait on getting the new Playstation. Honestly, doesn't seem that long since I got my PS4 (actually, three years ago. Dang).

I honestly think the scripts are much worse as well; a lot less experimentation, a lot more low hanging fruit, and a way lower ratio of jokes -not just succesful ones, attempted ones - over all. After a while, the joke format of "long, straight faced, factual description of the game and its attributes, punctuated by "BUT ALSO the game is very hard/obtuse/ etc joke at the very end" got very repetitive. I think the choice of doing mostly extremely recent games sort of encourages a more superficial approach, as opposed to if the cultural dust has settled after a half a year or more, as in the regular honest trailers.
There is a State of Play happening in 22 minutes.
Basically just revisiting all the stuff from when they first showed the PS5 titles.
No Horizon update, no Elden Ring. Some new FF7 footage of Yuffie.
Solar Ash continues to look right up my alley.
FF7 remake is one of the free games on PS+ next month. Crazy.
Trying to push that Yuffie DLC I guess.
Suppose I may actually have to play it now. Though I'm in the middle of FF14 so that may be a while.
