One Piece The Movie - The Desert Princess and the Pirates
-
-
Huh.. interesting idea. It really looks like… rewritten Alabasta. :wassat:
-
An Alabasta remake!? I'm all for it, much better than a crappy new storyline with mechas, cursed sword or bouncing boobies. Can't wait, watch my favorite arc in movie quality glory will be sweet.
-
This could be really, really awesome….or really, really bad. I'll wait for some more info before giving my opinion on it.
-
well, if they manage to make it as awesome as the red ribbon movie in DB, it's gonna be kickass. let's wait for it now…
-
Ok, added better scans.
-
HELL YES! Just like the DB movies. Path to Power is my favorite DB movie. I hope its as good as that.
-
I'm all for it! I'd rather have an amazing story with awesome animation than one with a weak plot, even though it's a recap in the end.
As long as they aren't planning to do it for all major arcs in movie form, I have no problem with this. =D
-
Oh, great more Vivi :o(
-
I think this will be a intersing movie, and it's something different in my opinion.
-
I'm looking forward to this.
Hopefully, it won't suck.
-
Interesting… Some more Mr. 2 in the frame…
-
lets hope it will be ok
-
Ah, I knew the new movie info would be out soon.
Huh, that's different…on one hand I don't really care for a rehashes, but if it's really done well with great animation and stuff, it could be cool...but could they possiblly outdo the original defeat of Croc?
-
Ha. Well, cheap move, Toei. On the other hand, I really don't mind them rehashing ideas if they're done well. Seeing stuff in better animation should be a blast, and that's all I care for.
I'm curious to say the least, but it's still early days so there's plenty of stuff that could be coming up or changing.
-
It's good that it's something different but please… PLEASE! for the love of Enel no jiggling breasts! The last one had enough of that…
-
I still think people exaggerate the jiggling in movie 7. Sure, the boobs were huge, but there wasn't really that much jiggling going on through the entire movie.
Then again, if that were to happen while Nami was in her Alabasta outfit, who knows where it would lead?
-
Maybe it wasn't that much but the very existence of something that normally only appears in soft hentai movies to be in a One Piece movie… to put it blantly... it just pissed me off -.-
hopefully they will do a good job on this movie without fanservice and the like
-
What the others said: if it's a remake with better animation, I'd say it could be pretty good (though how will they manage to squeeze all of that in like that?).
I'm being reminded of that "Alabasta Movie Trailer" AMV someone made awhile back.
…but could they possiblly outdo the original defeat of Croc?
Rewatching the old clips, I'd say yes. If they leave in the whole "Allegro con Fucco"(?) bit, but bring up the animation, it could be pretty awesome.
-
I wonder if they'll keep the fillers in this?
-
Here is the script from the part of the image related to movie 8 as well as a rough translation (sorry, my Japanese is still not that good yet).
EDIT: Oops. This is only the left page. I didn't realize that there were two separate images. Unfortunately I am not skilled enough in Japanese to translate all of the right page, because there is too much text.

「OP」の(there is a character here I can't make out)場化はこれで8回めらしいぞ
Zoro is saying something like "This is the 8th One Piece movie" -
Is veeeeery curious
I just finished rereading the arc last night.
I am a fan of Arabasta and think it could make for a great movie. I doubt any filler will be in it. Only 5 months till we know. -
Ooh! I'm excited for this one!
-
It comes out March 3rd (I think)

Look at the pattern. -
OMG I have a really bad feeling about this..
Maybe its more behind the story of vivi and kohza etc..
but It would be a miracle for this to turn out good -
I'm assuming this will be using updated and improved animation. Could be interesting. As long as they keep in Dvorak's New World Symphony for the Gomu Gomu no Storm, I'll be happy.
-
Rats, I was hoping for something with Franky or Paulie in it. Oh well. I wonder if it'll have a musical number in it.
-
Why do you call it "Alabasta"? It's "Arabasta". Like… "Arab"... Y'now, the desert... Muslims...?
The dub called it Alabasta to hide any reference to any religion or country whatsoever.
-
This might be interesting. Condensing the entire Arabasta arc in about 1 1/2 hours could lead to the gutting of the unimportant events (the fillers for one thing, and less rehashing in the flashbacks). I'll defintely watch it, that's for sure. Though I was expecting Franky being in the new movie.
Maybe Oda's doing this movie to increase the fan-tension on who's going to join the crew next.
-
Oh… In this movie, I hope they leave out those 10 freaking episodes in the desert. Oh, and that ridiculously stupid part where the elite soldiers drank the "Forbiddan Water" and lost.
That shit did nothing to the plot. It just stalled the fans. What the hell is Forbiddan Water anyway? They threw in this random subplot that lasted for 5 minutes and never brought it up again…?
Half of the Arabasta Arc was bullshit, but nothing can beat that climax. Best climax in this entire series, without a doubt.

The dub used Alabasta because that's how Toei and Oda spelled it out at first.
-
This sucks…....oh well. So its just going to be alabasta? No little garden or drum island?
-
Well I keep seeing it spelled as Arabasta in the manga.
Besides, every even movie has been good. No worries.
-

The first Eternal Pose Luffy and them got was the first time it we've had Alabasta spelled out. And, it had it as "Alabasta". I'm guessing that's why 4Kids decided to use that.
-
Well, you can say that "Alabasta" and "Arabasta" are both right anyway because the japanese say the "r" like a mix of r and l
At least, that's what I heard :PThey can't redo the whole arc anyway… it has to be aproximately 1 h and 30 min long so they will probably only show the most important scenes like the first meeting of the SH with Crocodile, the fights against barogue and of course the final showdown with Crocodile.

At least, that's what I heard :PActually, "L" does not exist in the Japanese Language.
That's why I hate it especially when people back up Zoro's dubbed name with a blatent statement like "In Japan, R and L are completely interchangable."

I am leaning towards Alabasta because that is what is written on the Eternal Pose. My speculation is that the name Alabasta may have come from the mineral alabaster. Oda has said that Alabasta is largely inspired by ancient Egypt. Many Egyptian sculptures and artifacts are made from alabaster, and there was even a town Alabastron in Egypt where it was extensively quarried (there is some debate as to whether the town was named for the mineral or vice versa). Alabaster is also the color of sand (there are different shades of it - white, yellow, brown, etc., but they are all sand colors), and Alabasta is a desert kingdom. I'm not ruling out the Arab -> Arabasta connection, but I think there is also evidence for alabaster -> Alabasta.
I know this discussion come up in another thread in the past, but I don't believe it was every really resolved. In the end, it shouldn't matter that much since there is only one Japanese pronunciation for it, and it can be transliterated as either Alabasta or Arabasta because of the Japanese l/r ambiguity.
-
Well, it's a very trivial matter anyways… So, yeah. I'm just saying that your reason wasn't the reason 4Kids chosed "Alabasta" at all...
I wonder how this movie will turn out. It should have awesome animation if it's going to be a remake.
-

I prefer Arabasta myself, since he did write Alabasta on the Log Pose, but it has always been printed as Arabasta since then, on the map in the manga and in Color Walk.

Actually, "L" does not exist in the Japanese Language.
That's why I hate it especially when people back up Zoro's dubbed name with a blatent statement like "In Japan, R and L are completely interchangable."
Japanese doesn't really have an "R" either. It has a sound that is about halfway between R and L, with a hint of D in it too that is very difficult for native English speakers to get used to. This sound is usually written R when Japanese is Romanized, probably because it sounds a little more like R than L, but it is definitely not the same as the English R. This sound is also the closest Japanese equivalent to the English L. So there is nothing wrong with translating it as L instead R in proper names (for example, Loguetown instead of Roguetown, Saul instead of Saur). In my opinion, if Oda has given us the proper English spelling of a name, we should always use that one, but if not, then it is okay to use R or L, depending on which one seems to fit better.
By the way, Private Zulen, I am not directing this at you. I'm just trying to share what I've learned from studying Japanese. And, I do agree that Zoro shouldn't be wrtten Zolo, but that is because his name comes from Zorro and because it is written Zoro on his bounty.

-
Ooo, this looks like it'll be awesomegreat. Can't wait to see how it turns out, murhur. %D
-
Hmmmm…this looks pretty interesting, especially if they do it in the animation of the newer episodes. Crocodile's fight is going to be freaking awesome in the high quality movie animation. :D
-
I bet there doing this is so they can remake it and enhance nami's boobs.
-
Sounds…different, and as long as it doesn't become a habit, a rehash of one of the best (if not THE best) arcs isn't any less welcome than another oddly boring movie.
Besides, it'll be cool to see everyone again. There are so many awesome characters in that arc.
@Private:
Oh, and that ridiculously stupid part where the elite soldiers drank the "Forbiddan Water" and lost.

I believe the point of that was to drive Chaka over the edge and get him to attack Crocodile (AND show off his DF) even though he knew it would be futile. I admit that it could have been done better, but it's not entirely pointless. There was also this underlying theme that Alabasta was full of strong warriors who didn't stand a change against Croc and Baroque Works.

That could've been established just as well if they left the entire scene out.

I haden't thought of that… It's hard to believe that Nami versus Mrs. 1 could get any_more_ suggestive.
-
Wow…I'm shocked. They must have got lazy of thinking up new movies. XD
Be interesting in how they shorten it.
-
Aw man i wanted the 8th movie to have Franky in it;-; hopefully theres a One Piece short with Franky in it
-
My main concern with this is how they're going to fit all the plot into an hour and a half (?) long movie and still have it retain the same emotional impact. Sure, getting rid of the fillers will be nice and better animation will be great, but honestly, there was so much going on to build tension and suspense, so many things that emphasised how many obstacles they had to overcome to even get to Baroque Works, let alone trying to stop the revolution… I don't know, they might be able to do it, but I'm reserving judgement, I guess.
And for my .50 cents, "Alabasta" just sounds better than "Arabasta" to my ears, so that's what I use. "Arabasta" just seems a little awkward.
-
Am I the only one who finds this COMPELETLY awesome? I have been wanting an Alabasta movie, or Alabasta with better quality animation, and it looks like it will happen!
Remember this anyone?
The only problem I see is the hour and half length, but we will see. And yes, the build up was the best part about Alabasta.
