Wouldn't it be ironic if Merry makes its triumphant return, rescues the Strawhats, but ends up falling to pieces once they reach someplace safe? Like the Klabauterman's last bit of power is used to save them. I dunno, I just think it'd be interesting if the ship is STILL going to be unsusable even after returning.

Eh, if that was the case i doubt Usopp would be so intrigued about it.
Notice also how Oda uses the same speech ballon for the "___" as Merry's in this week's chapter.You know, I wonder how they will represent that in the anime now. Maybe with sound cool sounds effect.
And come to think of it, the scene in this weeks manga is probably going to look pretty cool animted.

i said a couple of pages back that i thought merry would sink after it safely got luffy and the crew away from the buster call and then to water 7. i think it's going to look similar to the ending of terminator 2 and merry will slowly sink and all you will see at the end is merry's smiling head slowly sink underwater as it says goodbye and then sinks into the ocean. imagine merry's head in place of arnold's hand..

Any good pirate (which the Straw Hats are not) or sailor in general knows to stock up on extra materials like wood/tar/hammers/nails just in case of accidents. I'm not surprised if Ener had extra gold lying around somewhere in Maxim; I mean, it might be spacious and cozy, but there's got to be a hold for food and what-not in there.
As for the actual repairing…Ener could probably plate Maxim's roof then melt the gold into place. He's smart enough to do that; he was likely the one responsible for engineering Maxim in the first place.

That's what I thought at first too. But considering the theme that would be impossible. So for shits and giggles I did the math. It doesn't add up either way.
Also note that the title of the series is completely different this week than it has been the past 3 weeks.

I believe that may be a coincidence. Obviously my powers of creativity are not anything compared to many forum-goers but the clues from the past 3 chapters seem to be focusing on one-shots. SINCE they were actually numbered, they seem to be part of a series. If this was part of that series it should have the same title or at least be numbered in order with them.

Yes, I do believe the signs point to a cover story of Ener going to the moon. Many of us have hoped for it, but I know I've always doubted we would ever see it.
If this truly is the case, we may have the weirdest and most interesting cover story to date.

I can deal with the GM getting there, but I'd have KILLED for some more motion on the final page. On page 12, we see an overhead view of the situation… no Merry to be seen, but on page 19, it's right there. Maybe 20 seconds have passed.
If the ship's travelling that fast, or just surfaced from being submerged, I want to see some sign of motion in the Merry.
I also suppose it does neuter the emotional impact of watching it go down the drop too.
Maybe Oda will surprise us and Chapter 429 will entail swiss-cheesing the Merry.

Actually, it IS right. If Usopp draws a legitimate bounty, it's enough to make him a brave warrior of the sea. That could be a huge issue, as the moment dreams start to be fulfilled, it means One Piece is getting into endgame.
Plus, there are just so many fun ways to play the whole next round of bounties, and I doubt the WG has really researched that Sogeking is known as Usopp.

If this is indeed a mini-arc about Ener, I can only say Oda is the single greatest author in the history of humankind with respect to catering to the fans.
His final panel with Ener was THE ULTIMATE send-off. Seriously. It was beautiful. If you want a ribbon on your villain left alive, that was it. To continue THAT is just…oh man. He's too good to us.
The possibilities for this arc (if that's what it is) and cameos are just too thick to even comprehend. Just think about where he could be over by now.

I agree. That's why this threw me for a loop and I didn't even think about it being it's own mini-arc. It was a REALLY strange choice and what's more, if he wanted to show them just chilling out, why didn't he just make it a side-story like he's done in the past? (Kaya w/ Jango, Giants w/ GW, Dalton w/ Wapol) Maybe it means he'll be doing more of it in the future.
BTW, if Ener makes it to the moon I'll be shocked. (no pun intended)

I'm starting to think Oda would have done better to have the crew used Merry in some way to get EL, and then have it blown up there as a sacrifice. A lot would have had to be rewritten, but overall I think the story may have turned out a lot better (my initial instincts say so). I think he really wanted them to ride on the train though, so maybe it's not such a good idea. It's hard to tell without fleshing it out more.
Anyways, here's hoping that Ch. 429 ties up some loose ends and makes everything work. Hopefully, it's not another filler type chapter.

I totally believe that Ener and his misadventures on the moon will be a riot and will surpass the Straw Hats' likely improbable Enies Lobby escape for entertainment value. Just imagine the possibilities!
