Sorry if this has been posted before, but does anyone know why the Anime / Manga differences page doesn't work? As an ardent fan of the anime, I'm very interested in what differences there are between it and the manga. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
Anime / Manga Differences
-
-
it depends if u're talking about the US version of the anime or the Original version of the anime. Orignial version and the manga are not that different…a few differences here and there..but the main stuff is the same. US version??..well...it's different.
-
There are some notable differences between the Japanese anime and manga, though. He's asking what happened to the page. and I'm curious what happened to it too…I guess it wasn't redone when the site changed formats. Besides the fact that the anime adds fillers,
1. The beginning of the manga starts differently from the anime. In the manga, it starts with Luffy as a child, but this was shown later as a flashback in the anime. The manga also shows how he got the scar below his eye, but stabbing himself to impress Shanks.
2. In the manga, Zeff eats his own leg to survive. In the anime, it gets snapped off by chains when saving Sanji. And I don't have any more time so I'll let other people fill in some more. :P
-
The Anime is in colour too…. thats probably the main difference I saw.
-
Well, that's kind of obvious. XD There aren't manga manga in color.
It also moves, has background music, and voice actors. XD
-
the manga art is better than the anime, but we already knew that XD
Oh, they push the introduction of Gaimon to where it includes Usopp in the anime… in the manga version, it was just Luffy Zoro and Nami
The Daveyback Fights were changed in the anime... there were only 3 games in the manga.
that;s all i can think of for now ^^
-
POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!
The manga has people throwing rocks at a few people, and in the anime they're changed to tomatoes. And at the begining of the Davyback arc, a horse got shot in the manga, and tangled in a net in the anime.
-
Ace's tattoo is a manji in the manga and a cross in the anime.
-
Apis's existence…
Bleh.
-
The only differences I know of have already been listed.
The begining being a flashback, exclusion of Luffy stabbing himself, Ace's tattoo, Gaimon arc later in, and rocks turned into tomatos. Well, I know alot more but I'm too lazy. One thing I noticed was how different Koby's and Luffy's meeting and the aftermath was in the manga.
Atleast in location.
-
In Baratie, the scene with the chefs attacking Sanji for giving food to Don Krieg was changed. They were pointing guns at Sanji in the manga, but in the anime they were changed to oversized spoons, forks, and knives.
Romance Dawn:
Manga: Luffy meeting Coby on Alvida's hideout.
Anime: Nami appearing earlier in the story. They added the part about the Alvida pirates attacking the ship Luffy ended up on. -
The anime also pipes in a lot of filler moments (e.g. Sanji's Melloradar) and extends some scenes by a lot too, usually just for gags.
-
The Strawhats originally met Aokiji on Long Ring Long Land (?) Island right after Davy Back Fight. In the anime, they met him on some random island after the Foxy Returns filler. He also helped some random lost people.
Added filler arcs in the anime:
-Apis
-Random filler episodes after Alabasta:
Chopper's flashback on how he invented the Rumble Ball.
A salesman comes aboard the Going Merry.
Sanji sneaking onto a Marine ship to see how the Marine chefs cook.
Usopp helping a family make a firework for a festival
Zoro's flashback on how he met Johnny and Yosaku
-Goat Island
-Rainbow Mist
-G8
-Stolen Memories (Based on a One Piece video game)
-The return of Foxy -
Don't forget those random filler episodes DURING Alabasta.
-
Kuina's Death. In the manga he falls down staris but in the anime we hear that she gets killed by bandits, right?
-
Kuina's Death. In the manga he falls down staris but in the anime we hear that she gets killed by bandits, right?
That's actually a dub change (except she's not killed, just beat up). She falls down the stairs in the original anime too.
-
There's a little blurb in Sanji's flashback in which he starts smoking during childhood to become a man.
Also in Little Garden when Mr. 3 restrains Brogy he uses Doru Doru Arts: Sword to pin his limbs down. In the anime, he covers his arms and legs with wax first, and then uses stakes.
And the most notable: In the manga, Arlong shoots Bellemere in the head, rather than the chest.
-
I'll see if I can name all the Alabasta filler episodes now:
-The crew helping the the random pirates beat desert bandits
-The village of fake rebels
-Ace vs. Scorpion
-Was the part when Luffy, Zoro, and Chopper fall into that pit and find a Poneglyph in the manga?Wow, there are so many differerences from the anime and manga that I never knew about! I started reading the manga a little after the beginning of Skypiea, (Luffy and Sanji vs. Satori to be precise) so that's why.
-
Smoker appears in the anime sooner than he does in the manga.
-
That happens to Kohza, too.
Lougetown
-In the anime, Luffy says that he doesn't drink.
-The anime adds a flashback of Roger's execution, and shows Smoker as a kid.
-In the manga, the crew finds out about Luffy's bounty at Lougetown. But, in the anime they find out after the Arlong arc.
-Filler episode: Usopp sees a rare, high-quality pair of goggles for sale in a store. But, he's unable to afford it, and a girl buys them first. She gives it to her dad: A bounty hunter named Daddy the Father. Usopp gets into a duel with Daddy to get the goggles.Davy Back Fight
-Robin never joins Foxy's crew in the manga
-2 added games in the anime: Rollerblading, and dodgeballWater 7
-The anime cuts the scene in Franky's flashback after he's hit by the Puffing Tom when he re-models his body with pieces from the shipyard. -
@Senshi:

Actually, I heard that Oda wanted to include how Usopp got his goggles, but he couldn't because he would've went over how many pages he was allowed to have. I don't know if this is true, but I just wanted to point out what I heard about this.
-
I heard that as well.
all of Lougetown was technically not filler
I don't remember Gaimon any earlier. i'm gonig to go check it out.
-
that usopp filler is funny, it features shanks and his crew watching a duel between yasopp and daddy.Guess who won^^.
-
@Senshi:

Not true. They always find out after the Arlong arc before reaching Loguetown.
-

Hmm, I remember hearing that. I guess he was wrong.
-
Reading the comic first then seeing the anime, I was actually caught surprised by who was picked in the conclusion to the first Davy Back fights. Wasn't expecting that.
Some other differences:
-
A child throws a rock at Conis which leaves a trickle of blood on her head. In the anime this is changed to a tomato and red juice.
-
In Thunder-God form, Ener impales Luffy through the back with his trident, spilling a lot of blood. In the anime, Luffy "narrowly avoids" getting impaled and is just caught between the prongs.
-
-
I heard that as well.

The part with Gaimon originally took place after the Buggy arc. In the anime, they showed it after Usopp joined, right before Zoro's flashback.
-
During the Kuro arc, Luffy caught Django's weapon with his teeth while it him him in the back of the head in the manga.
Also the anime added Fullbody running into the SHs after they find out about Luffy's first bounty.
-
I'm always curious about the differences between the anime and manga, so I resurrected this thread.
What other changes have been made?
One that I've heard people talk about lately is the removing of the middle finger being flipped in a recent episode.
@Senshi:
-The anime cuts the scene in Franky's flashback after he's hit by the Puffing Tom when he re-models his body with pieces from the shipyard.
The page where we see Cutty go into the room with the scrap iron, and fall down? That was in the anime too, but I think they showed it a little later.
-
Manga - Good
Anime - Bad
-
Manga - Good
Anime - Bad
Were there any specific changes that made you feel that way? You could list 'em right here.
-
@Psycho_Kenshin:
Were there any specific changes that made you feel that way? You could list 'em right here.
I'll list a few off the top of my head:
The anime removed -
Luffy's stabbing himself under the eye
Zeff breaking off (and ultimately eating) his own leg
Arlong aiming his gun at Bellemere's head
Bellamy stabbing Roshio's hand into the table
The knife that stabs Sanji in the back during his fight with Absalom
Law's middle fingerYeah, there are more, but like I said…"off the top of my head".
-
Zeff eats his own leg
Chefs pointing guns at Sanji
Sanji learns to smoke
Davy Back fights: Roller Derby, Dodge Ball, and the Red light/Green light thing
Meeting Aokiji
Absalom stabbing Sanji
Law flipping off Kid
Zoro wandering around the archipelago -
A lot of those are already listed in this thread.
I guess the newer ones would be the Sanji/Absolom fight thing, and the flipping off thing I mentioned.
So not a lot of changes really in the last few years? That's good.
-
One or two episodes back, Sanji was completely disgusted at the human auction, instead of falling in love and wanting to by Pascia, like he did in the manga.
Also, during the Buster Call on Enies Lobby, captain Sharingu just seemed like arandom marine with a sword or something in the anime, while in the manga, he was shown to have the power of the Wheel Wheel Fruit. I really don't like this one.
-
There aren't manga manga in color.
….yes. there are.
as already mentioned Law's middle finger was removed.
More recent Sabaody changes were
- A more in depth look at everyones time at Sabaody Park.
- Extra Scenes with the Peterman and his people hunters
- Sentomaru's pseudo-introduction
From what I can remember Thriller Bark didnt have a lot of filler/differences at all.
-
Off the top of my head, some things the anime added in recent years:
- Lucci's backstory was way more detailed - in a SBS, Oda claimed he wanted to tell it but couldn't due to time restraints
- what happened to Zoro vs the Rusty Rusty guy
- Coby and Helmeppo discussing the EL incident
- extended flashback of Franky meeting the Family, Kiwi and Mohzu
- Moria removing Zoro's shadow
- we actually see Chopper and Robin being beaten up by Jigoro and Inuppe
- again, Cindry's flashback was more in-depth
- Risky Brothers from Lola's crew searching for Luffy, what made Nightmare Luffy seem less abrupt.
- Duval finding about his new face
- Capone reenacting the "Joker pencil trick" with a fork
- little Caimie's flashback
And yeah, that scene from Franky's flashback was delayed but it's there.
-
Duval had some flashbacks too that he didn't have in the manga.
-
Early in the anime after they get the Going Merry Luffy paints a design for the jolly roger. It sucked so Usopp did it instead. In the anime after he did he said he "had been painting for 50 years" or something and Luffy believed it like a dumbass. In the manga he just said :
Usopp: Ever since I was a wee lad I created "art" on people's walls.
Me and art, we go WAY back, see.and nothing was said more of it.
Also when Luffy, Zoro and Nami first land Usopp threatens them with his 80million men. In the anime Luffy again falls for this, in the manga he doesn't.
So yeah the anime made Luffy seem a lot more stupid than he is.
-
There were also a lot of other additions to Thriller Bark. Off the top of my head I can remember…
-the feading Oz-scene
-Oz going around doing stuff, swimming etc.
-Usopp and Nami jumping around on some pillars while fighting random filler zombies
-Absalom kissing Hildon
-Brook looking for salt to use on Oz
-Hogback having a very short flashback when the Strawhats first mentioned Brook
-Sanji going all Super Sayajin for a long time when he heard that Absalom was going to marry NamiChanges that were made were Sanji not being stabbed by Absalom during their fight in the anime, and also something about Brook's flashback from when he invaded TB. I think in the manga, Ryuuma pierced through his skull, while in the anime he only pierced the afro, or something like that.
-
Oh yeah, in Water 7 there were those two conductors at the train station. The anime added this running gag of them thinking Paulie was a suitor or something for Nami. While he glared at them.
-
I actually found that a really funny gag personally. shrug
-
-
Oh, back on Baratie, when Sanji finally agrees to join Luffy, in the manga the scene takes place inside but in the anime its outside.
And the anime has Sanji going all super sayain again after Duval reveals his face, but in the manga he just jumped in the water, swam over to him and kicked him. -
And the anime has Sanji going all super sayain again after Duval reveals his face, but in the manga he just jumped in the water, swam over to him and kicked him.
Short, sweet, and to-the-point, I guess… shrug
Oh yeah, how about the scene of Sanji at the Baratie before he leaves, and he's thinking back over the years, and notices the scars on his thumb, and then you get the flashback of how he got it.
-
That reminds me, at the end of the Arlong arc there was this whole bit with Nami alone in her house talking to Bellemere about how she was going to go out on her own.
Also from that arc, after Luffy beat Arlong the townspeople were tossing Luffy up and down in the air in celebration, and then Nami gave him his hat back and they highfived each other.
-
This may have been mentioned before, but in the anime, Zeff offers Luffy his log book from when he was in the Grand Line, but he never did in the manga.
-
It's a filler episode so it may not really count but it's kinda intersting. It's in the filler episodes when they land in the marine base directly after leaving sky island. Around the last episode when the water goes down and they're ready to leave Luffy doesn't have a shirt on and he has a tattoo on his chest
-
i cant rember a tatoo does anyone have a pick
-
It's probably the same one he has in the Foxy arc when he goes Afro Luffy.
