We're talking about 4kids now so, yeah.
About the Onigiri, well I wasn't surprised it wasn't going to be edited after seeing various eps of Pokemon.
Plus, 1st time in their anime history to let them call it "Rice Balls" than a "Nutricious Snack" or "Donuts" when they reffer rice balls in Pokemon.
I was 8-9 years old when I use to watch Pokemon, and when they mentioned donuts, I went, WTH XD?!

OK, sorry to bring this up, but it's bugging the hell outta me. I just can't accept the fact that he's simply been "impaled upside down" or "scooped". this takes the trophy for the worst fucking edit in 4Kids history. It's puzzeling to the point that it appears fucking cryptic (but I'm not giving them that credit, because I'm sure there's some kind retarded logic to it). Just what the fuck is going on here:
Crocodile: "I told you, Strawhat! I always win - Hook, Line and Stinker!"

Before Luffy was impaled he was running away from Croc's sand whirlpool Luffy makes a stupid comment by saying "its like a toilet" and Cros responds, "Ha, than I guess that makes you desert doo doo."
4kids should burn in the deep inner circles of hell, and Al Kahn must go through it twice.

Okay, the Shadow Realm is getting fucking old and repetetive. Come on people, when have you heard in the dub of 4kids making the characters mention the Shadow Realm? Sure they did make Arlong send Bellemere to the "Dungeon" rather than killing her..But no Shadow Realm XD.
But I have never heard Shadow realm in the dub.
Most likely, the head will be replaced as a bag of loot, and the hostages wont get killed but just get their ass kicked as 4kids will change it into.
As for his scars, maybe they'll mention bullet a few times, but most likely they'll say those pirates gave him such a hard beating, he has scars rather than being shot.

I know that this isn't exactly a reliable source, but I saw found this on RetroJunk.
Supposedly, 4kids might release the Ganzack OVA as the "first" One Piece movie. I have yet to find the offical news on this though.
Well that would be interesting. I like the animation in the OVA, but not much else. It's wierd hearing the different voices, but that obviously won't be a problem for the dub…

I would really like to hear Al Kahn try to explain this scene. There are so many things wrong with this scene, that I'm going to make a list of them.1. For some reason now, Crocodile is carrying an unconscious Luffy
2. Parts of Crocodile's hook are gone
3. Luffy never had sleeves in the battle to begin with
4. Luffy's body is oddly shaped
5. Scooping someone up while they're standing is physicaly impossible
6. From how Luffy's legs are bent, he's obviously beeing carried by his back, but then why was Luffy falling forward?!Damn them all…

Also, I managed to watch that all the way through without vomiting. The music is shit x 100. Also, Luffy's VA sucks more. And "Fast food menu" from Crocodile sucks, unless he was ordering a _sand_wich.
Toilet humor. Oh fuck no. This is a cruicial scene and it's more sucky than Tokyopop.

My God. That was one of the greatest scenes in One Piece, and they ruined it with desert themed toilet humor! Plus they removed my favorite line of Crocodile's. "This archaic concern for others is what's going to destroy this country."

Well let us all think aboot the idea of a Dub Piece movie. First off it would have to either be the second or third movie since those movies are the most "dub friendly" and are the most up to date with the series. Most people would agree that if 4KIDS would dub a movie, it would probably be the Chopper's Kingdom. Not because of the choppa love that 4KIDS has but because of the more "kid friendly" storyline and "less violent" events which take place in the movie. Or if 4KIDS decided to dub movie two, then this simple theory could happen to how chopper could be included in the actual movie. Show scenes of him scarded and in the Merry Go's cabin, and remove the background when he is looking at the sea in various episodes and replace them with scenes from movie two. So the new storyline could be that the Merry Go is stolen with chopper aboard.

Luffy's "sleeves" were actually the base of Croc's hook. Compare it to the original impalement shot and you'll see. The editors (butchers) copied, pasted, and flipped Luffy's right arm so they could get two. Shit, Luffy's ENTIRE BODY is now a mishmash of chopped and flipped body parts!
Oh, and Croc's arm does, indeed, look like a tentacle.
It's easily the ugliest edit since the entire dub of the Arlong arc (well, what was left of it)!
One Piece is seriously wasted in the hands of those 4Cash assholes!

I donno. Perhaps 4Kids actually wants continuity when it deals with the NAVY guns (since they've used 'em all the way since episode 1… I guess they want the impression that THESE are the guns the navy uses in the show).
Yeah... It's a bummer that THIS is the only thing they have continuity over (I don't think they ever missed a chance to make the Navy have super-soakers) but... Meh, it's 4Kids.

It frustrates the hell out of me, knowing that they actually have a team of pixel-pushers who sit in a room and take the time to painstakingly butcher and splice every episode, one frame at a time! How do these people sleep at night, knowing that they're destroying perfectly good stuff?!:unsure:
The way One Piece is getting raped senselessly, it comes off less like a TV show and more like a bad joke (or a nightmare)! It's actually painful to know that we Americans will NEVER get to experience a respectfully-produced One Piece dub! Not to mention the countless people who have been permantly turned off by it!:sad:
Oh, and then there's the Narutards…... Those goddamned Narutards! They have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to bitch about the Naruto dub on Cartoon Network! Calling the Naruto dub "shitty" is like saying that a shiny, new, luxury car is a piece of shit just because the rims don't spin! They should just be happy that they didn't wind up with an actual, literal piece of shit!
I'm sorry... Truly, I am.:sad: I just tend to reach the boiling point when I think about how a show as incredible as One Piece is being treated like a mere marketing tool! I've done my venting for the night and now I gotta go to bed.

I agree with SemiJuggalo, though, I'm sick of hearing Naruto fans complain about how Naruto was "destroyed" in the dubbing. They kept practically all the original music, got decent (maybe not the best, but they're not terrible) voice actors, edited very little (ooh, they took out nosebleeds and Sasuke/Naruto kissing, big whoop). Naruto was treated like gold and given a wonderful dub, these people have no idea how great this dub is compared to One Piece or (to a lesser extent) Sailor Moon.
But anyway, I shall make amends so this thread does not veer off topic.
I'm curious what they're going to do with Skypeia. All the references to angels, God, divine judgment, Heaven, etc. will obviously have to be removed, but these were so essential to the plot of the saga, it boggles the mind how they'll work around it (I know they'll find a way though, sadly).
I'm also wondering how the Trial of Iron is going to be pulled off in the dub. And ten bucks says they change the name of the Trial of Balls.
Oh geez, and now that I'm thinking about it, the voice of Bellamy…that's going to be "fun" to hear. Though I doubt they could make his laugh more annoying than Jinnai's from El-Hazard, I wouldn't be surprised if they did...
The real question is if the dub will survive beyond Skypeia (or even all the way through it).

Agreed. The best way to see how the Japanese think/feel about the dub is to take a side-by-side comparison picture and post it on 2chan. Then, everyone asks what the Japanese are saying, and if there are pictures, we benefit from some visual cues.

I remember there was an interview with a 4kids script writer a while back. He said that he didn't read comics, play video games, or watch anime, but that he was "interested in the culture surrounding it" or something along those lines. I suspect that it's the case with most, if not, all the staff at 4kids.
As far as Skypiea goes, "angel" will probably be changed to something like "fairy". And unless the go back and change the name of Buggy's cannonball attack after the fact, "Ordea/Triall of Balls" is being kept.

4Kids probably isn't going to be the only perpetrator with the "God" edits of Skypeia, you know - as shown in the Viz translation of Death Note, where they change every time that Light calls himself "God of the new world" to "hero", they probably aren't too psyched about using that terminology either. Unfortunately, I think that may mean that we get another Zoro/Zolo issue where Viz just follows 4Kids for the sake of following 4Kids.

The only cases when that seems to happen is whenever theres an "r" or an "l" up in the air. Don't forget that VIZ did keep Smoker's name.

Thats what bothers me aswell. Zolo is the only name change in all the series in Shounen Jump. They didn't change any of the Yu-Gi-Oh names but didn't keep Zoro's name? I haven't bought a Shounen Jump ever since…I still have the original one with Zoro's name in it.
